I honestly thought Halbrand being Sauron would have been so on the nose, but somehow, they managed to make it absolutely fucking terrifying.

Think about it. He was pulling every single thread from the very beginning, with deadly purpose and terrifying precision. He knew exactly was he was doing at every step, the whole time. 

Yes, even if he was feeling repentant at any point, as published canon tells us he was -- I’ll be damned if he didn’t always have the option to completely drop the repentant ordinary life in Númenor the minute he ran into something that forced his hand, like Galadriel did, in the back of his mind. Or, even if she hadn’t -- the minute he got bored of playing ordinary smith.

And he would have. Yes, yes, he would -- he has a mind like a subtle knife. The very second he got bored...

He let Galadriel learn the truth about him. He had no reason to keep playing peaceful king -- he’d seen Celebrimbor at work, seen the elves’ panic first hand, seen Mordor take shape, seen all the key pieces having been moved into the right places.

He could have spun an actual, spoken lie, this time: that the line of the kings hadn’t been broken, that he was the very last survivor of a bloodline that had hidden itself for centuries. It would have been as easy to him as breathing.

But where’s the fun in that? Where’s the conquest? Why reign over an insignificant little mortal kingdom when you can have all of Middle-earth gripped in an iron fist?

Who wants mere subjects when you can have worshippers? 

Fuck repentance. Let the true king finally take what’s his. Tell Galadriel the truth.

Again.

That’s all he ever did. Not one lie, not once.

He is so horrifically good at what he does that he doesn’t even need to lie to deceive people.

He’s Sauron the Deceiver, after all.

Another silly idea: Vox gets a photo camera somewhere (maybe as a present from Sir Pentious). He mainly ends up taking pictures of bugs to show Niffty (obviously if he takes pictures it'll help her know where the bugs are so she can kill them, duh). There's a couple of Angel in there as well because Vox just registers "Spider" for a second before pressing the button. This new hobby only lasts for a couple of hours until he tries to take a photo of Alastor though. And why wouldn't he? Taking pictures of/with the people he likes has been a habit since he was alive and could afford a camera. Alastor is not amused and destroys the camera, and Charlie has to keep the peace between them for the few minutes it takes Vox to forget that a) he made a mistake with Alastor and b) he had a camera to be upset about losing in the first place.

Oh gosh. This is Vox's time at the hotel in a nutshell; wildly swinging back-and-forth between funny shenanigans and genuine hurt/distress. He's trying!!! He's always trying!! But it's only a matter of time before something goes wrong or someone loses their patience and he's stuck grappling with feelings of utter rejection and worthlessness, until the next new impulse comes along and the cycle repeats again.

Vox had ADHD before any of this happened and his Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria is BAD. It was always bad, but now that he's so vulnerable it can be devastating. He doesn't cry or anything, he just gets even more frantic to fix his mistake or occasionally lashes out if the emotions are too intense. Is it a blessing or a curse that these instances stick so rarely in his mind that he doesn't get a chance to ruminate on them for very long?

Okok RAM thoughts

Someone at the hotel asked Vox to replace one (1) broken cable in the TV set they have. Vox gets the broken cable out and then promptly forgets what he was doing and takes the whole thing apart. No one can figure out how to put it back together and Vox is nowhere to be found. Nifty ends up throwing the "mess" away. Alastor is the only one who is not upset at losing the TV (Vox will whine about it later and then insists it's not his fault that it's gone)

Alternatively: they forget to unplug it and Vox immediately gets electrocuted when he puts his hand into the wires. Everyone else is shocked but he just gets back up saying "Tasty" and goes right back to work on it (it's still not unplugged)

Charlie tries to very gently explain to Vox that she’s disappointed that they don’t have a TV anymore. She’s not disappointed in him, he did his best!!!! but they really needed that TV. However, regardless of how nice she is about it, this immediately sets off Vox’s latent RSD and people-pleasing, and the next time she sees him, he’s stolen a whole ass 85-inch flatscreen for the hotel. She tries to tell him that she really appreciates the effort, but that stealing is kinda, sorta against the rules of the hotel, but he’s already forgotten that he stole it and doesn’t understand why he’s getting this lecture. Vaggie tells her to just throw in the towel and send money to whatever store he took it from.

For the second one, I’m not sure Vox is capable of being electrocuted, but that mental image is hilarious. I’m picturing him working on it, electricity coursing through his body, as he cheerfully tells Angel Dust about how this is just like that time he was electrocuted to death at his old job! Angel does not want to be hearing about this; Vox already makes him super uncomfortable and hearing him talk so openly about his death (a sort of taboo in Hell) just feels wrong. Why did Vaggie have to choose him for Vox-monitoring duty today?

During the trust fall scene, Vox eagerly gets up on the platform, ready to finally, successfully complete a task Charlie’s set for him. When he tries to think of secret to share though, he just… can’t. He’s stuck up there, buffering and starting to glitch out, until Charlie decides to end the exercise early in order to avoid another electrical fire.

Do you think when Alastor brings Vox to the hotel he gives him a job like Husk and Niffty, or is he so far gone that he's useless and Alastor just makes babysitting him every else's problem?

Yeah, he'd have a job– whether he's consistently good at it is another matter. He can be their handyman. It's honestly a lot of fun for him; Val and Velvette never let him handle electronics anymore and trying to fix things is like a fun, engaging puzzle for him. Someone lowkey needs to sit with him and periodically remind him what he's trying to do as he works, but still.

Half the time the things he's trying to repair end up irreparably fried, but Charlie is nothing if not endlessly patient. She makes SUCH a big deal out of even the little victories– it really brings out Vox's craving for praise– so he tries his best to stay focused and not break things for her sake.
