Brazilian government appoints two new Central Bank directors

Finance Minister Fernando Haddad announced on Monday the names of two new directors of the Central Bank.

Paulo Picchetti, an economist at the Fundação Getulio Vargas think tank, will oversee international affairs and corporate risk management, while Rodrigo Alves Teixeira, a career Central Bank employee, will be the new director of relationships, citizenship, and conduct supervision.

The two nominees will replace Fernanda Guardado and Maurício Moura, whose terms end in December. With the new names, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will have appointed four of the nine members of the Central Bank board.

The other nominees of the current government took office in July: Ailton Aquino took over the supervisory board, and former deputy finance minister Gabriel Galípolo took over monetary policy — a key position in the bank’s Monetary Policy Committee.

Tomb of Emperor Khai Dinh, Hue, Vietnam

The Nguyen dynasty, the last dynasty in Vietnam, lasted from 1802 to 1945 under 13 emperors overlapping the French rule in Vietnam.

French warships landed in and captured Da Nang in 1858, and by 1885 France had fully extended its rule over all of Vietnam. With the French conquest of Vietnam, the Nguyen dynasty was forced to give up sovereignty over parts of Southern Vietnam and later only nominally ruled the French protectorates of Annam (in Central Vietnam) as well as Tonkin (in Northern Vietnam).

Khai Dinh, the 12th Emperor of the Ngyuen dynasty came to the throne at a time when Vietnam was occupied by the French. In 1916, the French were rulers of Vietnam in all but name, and had exiled the previous two emperors, including Khai Dinh’s predecessor, for their refusal to cooperate.

Khai Dinh’s reign, from 1916 to 1925, marked a period of subservience to the French colonial masters. By the end of his reign, he was considered to be nothing more than a salaried employee of the French government and much disliked by his subjects.

Khal Dinh, was the last Emperor to build a mausoleum for himself. He started building the mausoleum at age 35, right after his coronation. The mausoleum was still incomplete at his death eleven years later. His son, the last Emperor of Vietnam, completed the construction.

The tomb design is an amalgamation of Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese and European architecture.

Engraved on the stele on the second terrace of the complex is a biography of Khai Dinh written in Chinese characters.

Aastha Vidya Mandir English Medium School organised a 3 days Annual Sports Meet for the year 2023-24 based on the guidelines by the Central Board of Secondary Education at Education City Jawanga, Geedam of Dantewada district.
