How Kurt Cobain Came Up with a Song While Listening to The Beatles All Day
Tumblr media
It's no secret that Cobain was a big fan of the Fab Four. We all remember his phrase, which became a meme: "Tell us about yourself; - I've always loved The Beatles or something like that. Especially The Beatles."
Tumblr media
As Far Out magazine writes:
In fact, Cobain created the unique sound of Nirvana by combining his interest in the Fab Four with heavier elements of punk and metal, focusing on both the power of simple melodies and deeper and thought-provoking musical arrangements.
Tumblr media
While trying out the Liverpool album once again, Cobain listened to the 1964 album "Meet the Beatles!" that day. The song "About a Girl" became a kind of translation of the marathon. The Beatles' influence can be seen in the simple chord sequence that the song begins with. Also, for example, The Beatles joined in "I Want to Hold Your Hand".
Tumblr media
Initially, the composition did not have a name. Kurt talks in it about a difficult relationship with his then girlfriend, which is probably why the working "About A Girl" stuck with her.
Tumblr media
Of course, the sound created by Cobain and which has become the epitome of the grunge movement may seem far from the lighter and more optimistic sound of The Beatles. However, Kurt's ability to revisit old sounds and create something new and interesting from a mix of different styles has become the main innovative feature of Nirvana.

I've been collecting Nirvana stuff since 1999, but this is the very first time I've received a Nevermind CD with official sticker. So happy.

AllMusic Staff Pick: Various Artists DGC Rarities, Vol. 1
While it was never actually followed up by a Vol. 2, DGC Rarities Vol. 1 is the ultimate apex of 90s alternative label samplers. Featuring high quality tracks from Nirvana, Weezer, Hole, Beck, Sonic Youth, Teenage Fanclub, Sloan, and even Counting Crows, it shows what a true indie powerhouse DGC was, even if technically it was a major.

I'm sorry for the like/reblog spam but it's always so exciting to find Death Gate content, and your art is amazing! So nice to see such a beautiful take on the characters-- I don't know if you have a twitter, but I know that Margaret Weis is active on there, I hope she's seen these!
You don't need to feel sorry for that! When someone reblogs or likes lots of my stuff it just shows they like my drawings, so that makes me happy :) I do have a twitter! I think she has seen 2 or 3 drawings when I tagged her, but it feels kinda weird tagging the author in every dgc post, even though the fandom and fanart is very rare...well, if she stumbles upon it then that's nice, and if not then not :D
