       of course she had to say it in a jokey way, she couldn’t say it to seriously. it sounded like she was supposed to be in a romantic comedy if she admitted to adoring anyone. but she did, with all her being.

       blue eyes widened at that, purposely pointing them away from diana. she hadn’t realized what she’d been saying until it was pointed out. maybe she was right but ... love ?? carol couldn’t recall ever feeling love. maybe from her mother but that was years ago. her father never loved her, if her brothers did it was in that stupid boy way that was filled with punches and jokes. she can’t remember a time she knew she felt love, let alone being in love with anyone. she didn’t really know how to confront it at all. 

       “ i really dunno what it sounds like. maybe you’re right. all i know is i don’t really want you to go anywhere. ”

#36 veins by whale and the wolf

       as cryptic as ever, that described more things for her than not. it seemed like her life was one big trauma leading to the next. since the incident, she physically can’t scar, but it’s like she can feel them all, barely skin deep and hiding.

       this was huge. carol was a public figure, colonel carol danvers, captain marvel, those names were both well known. she’d never had a big coming out or anything, she didn’t want the press. but here she was, linking her arm with diana’s harder with every second and about to walk through the door to a party she knew was going to draw attention. she was scared, but she knew she was going to do it. 

       “ come on. ‘bout time i introduced you to people anyway. ”

        part of her didn’t like doing it, but there was something nice about being back on earth and having someone to rely on. she didn’t like accepting help, it had rarely gone well in her experience, but with her powers being as strong as they were, it meant when she came down she crashed hard. at least if anyone was going to help her it was a kind person who was as strong as she was. 

       “ only be a minute, i’m sure. ” she was trying to deflect, not to get too emotional. last time she’d let a group of people tell her it was safe she wound up needing to find her old memories all over again. “ but ... thanks. ”

       “ you really believe that, don’t you ?? ” she knew she didn’t spend much time around these guys, but it was funny to see how quickly their plans seemed to turn dire. they all seemed to think she was going to accept defeat in rough situations. 

       “ well, i’m getting out of here. see if you can keep up, last time i checked you couldn’t fly. ”
