You and JJ are on your way to the chateau. The atmosphere consists of a mix of nervousness and anticipation as the weight of your news hangs in the air. You're staring out at the sights from your window, your mind wandering and tuning out the noise of the radio. Your teeth are sunken into your bottom lip, and if you bite down any harder, you're sure to draw blood.
JJ knows you're stressed. It's written all over your face, not that he needs to look at you to know what's going on inside of that mind he loves so much. He steadies his left hand on the steering wheel, and reaches over the middle console to intertwine your fingers. His touch and voice pull you out of your anxious daze.
"It's gonna be okay, baby," he says. You turn to face him, and he looks over at you for as long as he can with a comforting look in hopes of calming your nerves. "Everything's gonna work out."
You sigh. "I'm just worried. He flipped when he found out we were dating, and now, there's a baby on the way? I just don't see this going all that smoothly."
"He flipped because he found me balls deep inside you. I don't think he would've taken that news so badly if he hadn't." You both laugh at his joke, and he gives your hand a squeeze. "He loves us. He'll be okay."
You smile at your boyfriend. He always knows exactly how to cheer you up, even when you can't see a way of doing so.
"I love you, y'know that? You keep me sane."
"I love you, and our lil' nugget," he grins, showing off his dimple. "'N John B will too. I promise."
-
When you two pull up to the chateau, you get out of the car and walk hand in hand to the door, and your heart races. Before knocking, JJ pulls you into him. His arms circle your body and he kisses your hairline. He murmurs a we got this, pretty girl against your skin. You don't know if he's talking about what your about to conquer, or the pregnancy, or both. Still, it doesn't matter, because having him by your side is everything.
The door swings open, and John B comes into view. "What's up you two?"
JJ quirks a brow. "How'd you know we were here?"
"Well, between your car horn going off when you locked it, and your loud, clunky-ass boots, you weren't exactly subtle with your arrival."
You all share a laugh and enter the chateau, heading to the living room.
"So, what's going on? Why'd you request a meeting with me?"
You roll your eyes, huffing a laugh. "You're so lame. And to answer your question, we actually have some news for you."
"Hmm," John B hums, pretending to be deep in thought. "JJ's finally gonna start paying me rent?"
"In your dreams, man," JJ replies. "'N I'm actually gonna be moving into Y/N's place."
John B's eyes flash with excitement. "Great! That means I don't have to listen to you two going at it like you've been in prison for ten years without getting any."
"Ew, no," you say. You exchange a glance with JJ, who gives you an encouraging nod. You hesitate for a moment, before finally deciding to tell him. "John B, JJ's moving in with me 'cause we're...pregnant."
You wait for the explosion, but it never comes. Instead, your statement is followed with silence and a dropped jaw. The longer it goes on, the more JJ loses his cool, and he eventually flips. He stands up abruptly, running his hand through his hair.
"Okay, look, dude. I know you probably wanna punch me out right now, or kick me in the nuts, but I swear, I-"
"Pregnant," John B repeats, eyes trained on you.
You gulp, nodding in confirmation. "Yup. Preggers."
John B's lips spread into a wide grin, and he yanks JJ back down so he can wrap you both in a group hug. The excitement is practically coming out of his ears as he squeezes you both tightly.
"Wait a sec. You're happy about this?" You ask, clearly in shock. "I thought you were gonna kill JJ."
"Are you kidding me?" John B kisses your cheek, then JJ's (who can't contain his laugh), and then your other one. "This is amazing! I'm gonna be an uncle! Oh my god, I gotta go buy a car seat for the Twinkie. And floaties for when Baby Maybank is on the Pogue, and-"
"Woah. You've got time, JB. I'm barely twelve weeks," you laugh. "But I am thrilled about your enthusiasm."
"Yeah, man. I thought you were going to kick my ass," JJ adds. "Definitely wasn't expecting all this."
John B's smile is infectious, and you instantly feel relief wash over you at the sight of his contagious enthusiasm. It warms your heart, seeing how happy he is about the news. You feel like you can breathe again, like you can truly be excited yourself about it all.
"I love you guys, and I know you're gonna make great parents. But you," he says, his eyes moving solely onto you. "You're still my baby sister. I'm gonna be with you every step of the way."
You smile up at him, cuddling into him more. "I love you too, uncle JB."

More of Us Part 3
Joel Miller x f!reader
WC 3.1k
Joel and Ellie's respite was short lived.
Warnings: game type violence and swearing. Graphic injury detail. Some naughty thoughts. Gameplay spoilers.
"What the fuck, Joel?! We were there eating pizza, now we're here! We were safe..we.." Ellie began to break down.
"It's okay. We'll figure it out." He cupped her head gently. It only took her a moment to regain her composure. Your respect for her was immeasurable.
Joel looked at you as if you had the answered. Nothing would come out of your mouth, not only did you not have any answers, you had nothing to contribute. You couldn't even begin to guess what was going on, what to do next. All you could offer Joel was a rueful shake of your head. With everything that you had you wished things were different, that you knew what to do, that you knew how to click your heels and take them back to your safe home.
"Alright. Let's move out. Grab your things and anything else useful." Joel picked up his backpack from the floor, that you were grateful to see. He had insisted on keeping it close, as well as Ellie's. They both insisted on keeping their shoes on too, something that you went along with. No more barefoot tiptoeing around Pittsburg for you. Their clothes were still the ones that you had given them. How in the ever loving fuck did this whole thing work? So you all moved between the two worlds and convenient objects also did? If you popped back to your world again you were definitely grabbing a full suit of armour. That might be a little clunky to move it. Maybe a Mandalorian armour? Pedro Pascal struts around in it easily enough. Not that that's actually made of anything that could stop a bite. Or maybe it could. How hard can someone really bite? Apparently you could bite your own finger off really easily but your brain won't let you do it. Your brain jumped from one random thought to the next. About anything except what was happening right now.
"Hey, Darlin'." Joel soothed. It was only when his hand met your shoulder did you realise you were crouched on the floor. You had slid down the wall as the tears slid down your cheeks.
"I'm sorry." Wrangling your thoughts, you wiped your tears on your sleeve.
"Here. You were pretty good with this." Joel handed you a pistol. "Stay close. Follow me lead. Shoot anything that moves, that isn't us."
Taking a deep breath, you pulled yourself together before Joel's eyes. "Atta girl." He pressed a small kiss to your temple before moving to the next room.
Ellie stood across the room with a massive grin on her face. She made a kissy face before walking out after Joel. Oh, he wasn't going to heard the end of that any time soon.
"Score! Bottled water!" You could hear Ellie in the other room, one of the boss's offices according to the plate on the door. "Joel, I got some for you....and your girlfriend, too."
Joel just groan in response. Stifling a giggle you joined them. Joel was giving Ellie a disapproving look. It only soften when she turn away and he looked at you. Shooting you a wink, he packed up the last of his foraged items. Things were quiet so Ellie lead the way. You and Joel followed behind like a couple of kids being chaperoned on a date. Occasionally, your knuckles would brush together as you walked side by side, causing you both to grin bashfully at each other.
After wondering around and looting some of the buildings. The three of you came to a road block. Finding a loading bay to a build you decided to cut through, the three of you had short work of opening the heavy door.
"Many hands make light work." Joel commented.
"Yeah, maybe she can crawl through some vents for a change." Ellie added. The building was quiet, for now. Knowing better than to get too relaxed the three of you silently walked further into the office block. Turning out of the stairwell, Ellie was the first to hear them. Two voices came from down the corridor. They were getting louder, heading straight for you.
"We have to be as quiet as we can. If we shot them, we could draw more attention. Our best bet is to take both of them at the same time. I'll take one out, you two try to take the other, I know it's a lot to ask but if you can't just keep him tied up as much as possible until I can finish him." He pressed a knife into your hand. Nodding, you tried to keep the fear off your face.
When the barrel of a gun appeared in the door way, Joel ran out. Grabbing the barrell he angled it away from it's owned. Keeping you all relatively safe as he barged the second man into the wall. The hit was hard enough to make him lose his grip on his gun, he fumbled with it, giving you and Ellie time to get the drop on him. Joel overpowered the man who's gun he was holding. Wrapping his arm around his neck he pulled hard, leveraging himself into position to choke the life out of the man. You tried not to let the noise of the man gasping and fighting for his life distract you from your goal. While Ellie tried her best to get a good angle to sink her knife into the man, you worked at getting his gun from him. The knife Joel gave you slide through the strap on the gun with ease. It took a bit of an internal debate but you pushed yourself to use the knife on the man. Slashing his arm made him lose his grip on his firearm. It also caused him to become even more determined to kill you all. Turning his back to the wall he threw himself backwards, slamming Ellie into the wall. As she howled in pain, every instilled sense of propriety left you. All those black and white moral standards drilled into you suddenly became a sea of grey. The knife it your hand was promptly shoved into the middle of his neck. Frantically, he pawed at it. Blood ran freely from the wound, it soaked his shirt in crimson waves. Bubbles appeared, popping on the viscose surface. He chocked and gurgled as the blood welled up in his mouth, spilling from the corners. Eventually his efforts slowed, he became heavy, he slid from your blade and onto the floor. He continued to fight for the last but of his life, writhing and twitching until he stilled, eyes wide open and unseeing.
Your own blood rushed in your ears as bile rushed up from your stomach along with last night's pizza. Joel's hand came up to stroke your back as Ellie held back your hair. "Woah, I didn't realise you ate that much pizza."
Finally catching your breath you couldn't help but laugh at her comment. "I'm so sorry. I'm not really built for this world am I?"
"Ellie." Joel jerked his head back towards the way you came. Ellie walked back into the stairwell, practicing her whistling.
Joel knelt next to you, took off his backpack, unscrewing the lid he handed you one of the water bottles Ellie found. "Here, Sweetheart. Take little sips."
"No, I'm fine. You need it." You gently pushed the water away.
"You need it more right now. You can pay me back in coffee, next time we're in your world." His comment was meant to be light but was this your life now? The three of you Quantum Leap-ing back and forth? Except your bodies go with you. Sliders-ing? Sliding back and forth?
Taking the water you let it soothe the acid burn of your throat. "Thank you."
"You might not be built for this world but you're doing real good in it. It was him or us. We're all alive because of you." He could see his words weren't really hitting home. "I had..have a brother. His name's Tommy....huh, am going to tell you a story but you may already know it."
"I know a bit about Tommy. He helped you escape your home town. Then the game skips to just before you and Tess meet Ellie." You inform him.
Joel only looked momentarily taken aback. "Well, Tommy didn't like the things I did to keep us alive. Sometimes I killed people that might not have deserved it. I remember each of their faces, they haunt me just as much as Sarah's. The ones that did deserve it, I pay no mind to. I got enough to worry about. You did what you had to. And you will keep doing what you have to. I ain't losing either of you. Ellie! Let's go." He called as he rose to his feet.
Joel might be quiet on occasion but he had a way with words when he wanted. Keep doing what you have to, you told yourself as you pushed yourself up on your feet.
Cutting through the building and back out on the street the unnatural quietness became less jarring to you. It may have been unsettling at first to have the whole city being deathly silent but it was much preferable to having to listen out for Clickers in a thriving metropolis. Voices carried much further too. Like the ones of the men in the building ahead. Half of the second floor was badly damaged, allowing them a good view of the street. Sneaking around the barriers, you got a better look at what they were upto. Three of them were setting up a snipers nest, ready to take you out. Joel pointed to the stairs between you and them. He proceeded to move toward them, slowly, head low, using the cars as cover. Turning to check on you and Ellie, his backpack came perilously close to touching a trip wire, glinting in the sunlight. Grabbing hold of the straps of his backpack, you launched yourself onto your back, dragging Joel out of danger and on top of you. Your legs fell apart allowing Joel to slot between them. Your thighs hugged his hips. Looking down at you, his brow furrowed, his tongue briefly darted out to wet his bottom lip. Swallowing, you flicked your eyes to the tripwire next to you, Joel followed your gaze.
"Thank you." He whispered softly turning his head back to you.
"You're welcome." You whispered back your face inches from his.
The desire to close the gap between your lips burned inside you, only for Ellie's smug face next to you to hit you like a bucket of ice water.
Joel cleared his throat before getting the two of you to your feet. The sexual tension between you was quickly replaced by actual tension as you entered the building. Taking the stairs quickly and surprisingly quietly, Joel had already cleared the room by the time you got there. Three men lay dead with arrows protruding from various body parts.
The one with the arrow sticking out of his eye looked the most uncomfortable, funnily enough he was probably the one that suffered the least. The metal tip would have ended his thoughts before he had time to process it's movement through the air. A shudder run through you at you being able to assess his injury so clinically. Do what you have to do. Compartmentalise it. Don't waste any tears on someone that would have killed you in a heart beat, with a song in his heart.
Using the hunters tactic to your advantage, Joel took up position in the window. Bracing his rifle up on his shoulder, Joel looked down the barrel his aim moved between several hunters. From what you could see there was no way Joel could take out more than two without revealing your position. Picking up one of the dead men's rifles you stood beside Joel.
Copying his stance you took aim. "I've got the guy on the left. You take the other two."
"Yes, Ma'am." He drawled, leaving you to steady your quivering hand. "Ellie, stay back. On my mark...now."
Gunshots rang out, echoing off the buildings. Joel's first shot took off most of the guys head. Your's wasn't as efficient, hitting the guy in the shoulder, sinking him down to the ground. While you aimed your next shot, bullets sprayed the wall below you. Chunks of brick and dust flew through the air. Joel took out the shooter causing the spray to arch up as he fell. Just as you fired off a round, Joel wrapped an arm round your waist hoisting you back into the room, narrowly avoiding the bullets. After all the chaos, the sudden silence again had your nerves on edge.
Adrenaline had you on high alert, Joel could see it in your body, how rigid your posture was, ready to spring into action. Your chest heaved, breathes coming short and sharp came over your full lips. The sight of you was almost enough to distract him from the last hunter running into the room. Almost. The man hit the floor after take two bullets from Joel's revolver.
The next part of your journey was pretty quiet. Ellie told you about her time in a Military Prep school. Then she teased Joel about some Twilight rip off. "Who dragged you to see it?"
Sarah, ypu thought. Come to think of it Ellie probably didn't know about her. Thinking back to the part of the game you had played it hadn't come up. Joel looked at you, his gaze was pained.
"In my world we have Twlight. There's a werewolf who loves a girl but she loves a vampire, that's a grown dude but he decides to go to high school so instead of marrying her, the werewolf married her rapidly aging human/vampire hybrid kid after falling in love with her as a newborn. I think that's the gist of it anyway." You tell Ellie hoping to keep her distracted.
"What the...? That is too messed up!" She laughs, heading down an alleyway. Joel walks closer beside you, his hand rests on your lower back as he whispers a quiet 'Thank you.'
Voices ahead stop you all in your tracks. The three of you scatter for cover, Joel just ahead and you and Ellie on either side of the alley. The sound of an engine drew closer. Upon hearing it you took off running over to cover Ellie. Joel nods at you in silent thanks.
"Stay here." With that he slips into the building. Minutes tick by before he returns, bow in hand. "I took out the stragglers but I'm not going near that thing."
The tanks engine had rumbled steadily, it didn't sound like it was going anywhere anytime soon.
"We'll go around. The bridge isn't far. Keep your heads down." Joel lead the way.
The three of you crept behind barrier and cars. Every step you took was measured, every second was terrifying. The damage that turret could do if it was turned on you wasn't worth thinking about. Finally inside the building you felt a little safer. Which considering how scared you were didn't feel like much of an improvement. Practically crawling through the build, using overturned furniture as cover you made it to the last little stretch undetected. A quick sprint and you could be out of the window then the alley behind the build would lead you closer to freedom while putting a building between you and that fucking tank.
Joel had the same thought. "We have to go quickly and tightly together. I'll go first to make sure it's clear...." he paused looking guiltily at you.
"Ellie goes next." It was a statement from you, not a question. She was more important than you, in more ways than one.
"Then you, Darlin'. Right on our heels." He took you gun, checked the ammo then handed it back.
The time between Joel telling you the plan and Joel executing the plan felt like forever. Eventually he ran, Ellie ran, finally your body ran of it's own accord. Just do what you need to. Your legs burned with effort as you propelled yourself through the window. Heavy fire exploded behind you, sinking deeply into the walls of the build the three of you had just escaped.
"Keep moving!" Joel holler over his shoulder as he ran behind the building. A hunter jumped out at him, only for Joel to put two shots into his guts. His body crashed to the floor as you ran passed, narrowly avoiding tripping over his arm. By the time you all stopped, everything hurt, your legs from running, your arms from climbing, your lungs from breathing harshly. The empty apartment was filled with the sounds of ragged breathes.
When the three of you could breathe somewhat normally with the threat of giant tank looming, Joel lead you back out onto the ledge around the apartment block. Carefully you shuffled along to the next window. Joel was almost to it when the tank passed below.
"Joel!" Ellie called out.
"It's alright. They can't see us up here." He kept moving until he reached the far side of the window. Holding out his hand he helped you climbing into the new apartment. You were almost completely through when someone grabbed you. "Get off me." You lashed out, your arms flailing widely at your attacker.
Then next thing you knew, Joel was through the window, ripping the attacker off you, the force threw you to the ground. Ellie had jumped through right after Joel, she rushed at the attacker knife drawn, throwing a hand up to defend himself, he knocked Ellie to the ground. Joel began beating the man mercilessly, the man grunted in pain with every dull thump of Joel's fists against his body.
Blow after blow landed each one as vicious as the last until Ellie stopped him. "Joel! Look!" To your right a boy, around Ellie's age had a gun pointed at Joel. The man on the ground said something. The kid spoke. Joel spoke. Ellie spoke. You think. The gun was put away. It was hard to keep track. Your chest still burned, your breathing was hard. A dizzy feeling overtook you, like someone need to hold the room still. Then Joel was next to you, his hand ripping up your red shirt. No, your shirt was pale blue. Blood, was the last word you thought.

Don’t think about Dean visiting Cas’ room after Cas had died, about him cradling the jar of ashes as he looks around. Don’t think about Dean going through Cas’ stuff, his old trench coats, his old books, everything neat on the bookcase. Except for one book, which was on Cas’ bedside table. It was open and spine down, which bitterweetly reminded Dean of all the times he had to remind Cas not to do that to important lore books. It’s spine was wrecked and it’s pages and edges were so worn that Dean knew it must have been a book so treasured that Cas went back to it again and again. Intrigued, Dean sat on the edge of Cas’ bed and gingerly picked it up. It was, “We Are The Ants,” by Shaun David Hutchinson, and as Dean picked it up his eyes were immediately drawn to a quote highlighted in marker: “I saw the world from the stars' point of view, and it looked unbearably lonely.” Dean’s felt his pulse creep into his throat and immediately knew how much of an intrusion this must be to Cas, to be going through such personal things. Or how much of an intrusion it WOULD HAVE been if Cas was alive. But Cas was dead. The interpretation of this quote, of why it mattered so much to Cas, didn’t matter anymore. Dean thought for a minute, trying to quell the rising, almost rabid, need to KNOW. To get closure. He decided that it didn’t matter, he was the one mourning, not Cas. He numbly flipped back to the first page and began reading, noticing all the highlighted parts as he went, all meaningful quotes that felt like Cas himself was reading them aloud to Dean:
How ugly we must look to them, spilling light into every dark corner to push back the shadows, blinding ourselves to the true beauty of emptiness.
I hate Jesse for leaving me behind. If he asked, I would have walked into the air with him.
Jesse believed stories were the collective memories of the world, recorded in books so that each of us could know who we were before we became who we are.
We're not words, Henry, we're people. Words are how others define us, but we can define ourselves any way we choose.
Dreams are hopeful because they exist as pure possibility.
Why me?” “Because I can be myself around you, even if I don’t know who I am yet.”
I could write my name across the sky, and it would be in invisible ink.
There's an amazing world out there for you to discover, Henry Denton, but you have to be willing to discover yourself first.
That's the problem with memories: you can visit them, but you can't live in them.
Dean didn’t realize that he was crying until the first few teardrops suddenly hit the page, smudging the ink and startling him. Dean came back into his body to find himself hunched over the book, fists clenched around where he was holding it, breathing harsh and heavy. For some reason, realizing he was crying made him cry harder and now sobs ripped through him, so violently that his chest hurt and acid crept up his throat. He grappled to get ahold of himself like a car over an ice patch, and he eventually calmed just enough to keep reading:
Maybe love doesn’t require falling after all. Maybe it only requires that you choose to be in it. I wasn’t sure what was going to happen with us or how much time we had left, but I wasn’t going to waste a second of it.
This was how Diego saw me. I was Henry Denton and I was Space Boy. I was broken and I was beautiful. I was nothing and I was everything. I didn't matter to the universe, but I mattered to him.
Having choices is the problem. Everything would be easier if someone told me what to do: push the button, stop seeing Marcus, get over Jesse. The problem with choices is that I usually make the wrong ones
Memories are often amalgams of truth and fiction, sewn together in our heads by our subconscious to support our personal beliefs about the world
A star's light still shines even if there's no one to see it, but without someone to remember Jesse, his light will disappear.
Sometimes I think gravity may be death in disguise. Other times I think gravity is love, which is why love's only demand is that we fall.
The last quote had Dean biting his lip and folding in on himself, curling over the book as if it was Cas’ body, as if he could keep him safe that way. He couldn’t make himself stop crying now and realized that he never really made himself stop before. Cas didn’t have a clock in his room because he always knew the exact time, but it felt like Dean had been there for hours, just reading, clinging to what felt like the last scrap of Cas he had left. Dean neared the end of the book with growing panic because this was CAS, it looked like his most prized possession. These were his favorite quotes. This book helped make Cas CAS. Dean didn’t want to lose this last bit of him by finishing the book. His joy from earlier from finding the book was completely lost in his utter desperation to keep the feeling of being close to Cas, but still he read on, until there was nothing left. At the end of the book, Cas had written his own poem, carefully lettered on stationary paper and tucked between the last page and the author’s note. Dean was very careful to wipe his face and and hands before handling it, wary of getting any tears on it. With shaking hands he began to read it.
Tumblr media
“This may not last. Branches shed their leaves to prepare for sleep. Snow banks melt in the sun eventually. Blossoms make their cameo in window boxes. Even birds are only here on holiday. But this moment with you. Being loved by you. This is the season I hope never ends.”
It had a time stamp of a few years ago, before Cas found his loyalty to Jack and left. Dean tried to think about what they were doing on this date, but he specifically remembered that they didn’t have a case that entire week and they didn’t really do anything. It suddenly dawned on Dean that Cas is talking about when Dean took him along on a fishing trop. It was genuinely an amazing day. There was still snow sprinkled along the grass tips in the meadow fields, casting sunshine onto them, and they walked along the forest path to a small Brooke to cast their lines, quietly chatting as they breathed in the crisp air, warm sunlight weaving through the trees to stream over them. Dean had a sneaking suspicion that Cas parted the clouds to make it a bit warmer for Dean, despite Dean turning Cas down when he offered his trench coat to Dean. Why didn’t Dean just take the damn coat? Dean would give anything to be back with Cas at that stream, to feel that peace with Cas again. And suddenly, the jar of ashes felt clunky and misplaced in his hands. It felt poetically cruel to keep Cas in yet another cage for the rest of his...well, death. But that’s okay. He knew exactly where to put them. Cas was right, he thought, the snow banks will be melted by now, but my love is the season that never ends.

We finally have an original trailer for next weeks Supergirl episode (5.14).
Now usually I’m more than optimistic to see the new trailers or teasers, but after not only the debacle of 5.12, but other problems that have been identified before that; the fact we are rapidly running out of episodes (still unconfirmed if it is 20 or 22, although 20 looking likely as the date for end of filming is confirmed for 17th March), that no original trailer was shown immediately after the 100th episode (that has generally been well received by fans & critics alike, a considerable improvement), I am actually being cautious/worried over the whole thing. Why wait a full week to drop the trailer, instead of riding on the high of the 100th episode? I'm not one for trying to read things into anything, but it feels as if they might've decided to re-edit the trailer after 5.12 exploded in their face so badly. Of course I could be wrong, but with William in the episode it is possible he was in the trailer, and it could've once again become a whole level of backlash (more about William later).
Anyone who knows me will tell you one of my defining traits is I’m a pretty optimistic person. I like to be pragmatic, so I don’t get bogged down often with concerns of what might happen, rather my perspective is, let’s see what happens. I was of this mindset right up until Crisis with Supergirl. I still feel that 5a was by far the strongest part of the season, which normally I find isn’t the case with Supergirl. Usually I find the second half of a season is where Supergirl generally is at its best - where it can finally pull together the strands it has been playing with in terms of main plot line from episode one. By about episode 12 or so, we begin to get an idea where it is heading. That not only hasn't happened this season, with episode numbers dwindling fast there seems to be no way they can pull back from some of the honestly calamitous decisions that seem to have plagued much of the midseason.
I was relieved to see that the promo photos show a Dansen moment.
I am though also not entirely sure we're going to get anything that is meaningful between Kelly and Alex, as the background, synopsis and other photo suggest that they get caught up in the VR world. I have a horrible gut feeling, just as they're about to make out at Obsidian (some workplace making out hello, I'm here for that), there is an explosion (as per trailer), then the fallout from that.
Don't get me wrong, we've had so little of Kelly, and Dansen in general it will be good to see them onscreen together, and working in a hostile environment as a couple; especially as we haven't seen much of Kelly beyond Obsidian or wielding the shield. I hope her army training, alongside Alex's military training with the DEO actually get to be a tangible plot point.

As an aside, remember the little video clip Azie posted just around Christmas that had the Dansen fandom collectively falling down in incomprehensible piles of goo? While the quality isn't great, there is no doubt those outfits match these. So Azie threw one hell of a tease our way beyond what we thought! I do hope that means we genuinely see more than a moment of Dansen, but again Azie has spoken or posted about scenes she has filmed or have been part of the promo set of photos, only for a lot to not make the final edits.
So below are some of the other promo photos for the episode.
My concern is once again we see William at CatCo alongside Franklin. Which infuriates me, because (as I've said many times, this absolutely isn't because if Staz), but why is William once again there, when Nia is a journalist? Yet they pop Franklin in the shot - a reoccurring character certainly, but either remove William, or remove Franklin and allow Nia to be back as a journalist in Catco. Her actual job! I know we get the following episode (15) that is Nia centric, but as with Kelly, Nia's screen time has been so ridiculously low for an established main cast member, that I find it impossible to understand why they couldn't have at least allowed them screen time in these circumstances.
But no, again William is the journalist. Even Franklin is a journalist. Nia is MIA. I'm beginning to think she doesn't even know what CatCo looks like anymore.
It's the imbalance I (and many others) am finding so annoying this season. Imbalance that wouldn't take much to address if they'd just changed scenes a little, without disrupting anything of note of the storyline.
So I decided to check main cast numbers, and it made for interesting reading. Last year had 9 main cast listed. This year it is officially 12. We can argue that James wasn't in many episodes, but he did feature quite heavily before Mehcad left. The same could be said for The Monitor, who is listed as main cast up until Crisis.
Equally Lex Luthor isn't listed as a main character, but considering his screen time since Crisis, I've no doubt he might as well have been. The same for Malefic, who was pretty heavily used prior to Crisis.
So even if we subtract James and The Monitor, and only add in Lex Luthor as a replacement we are still on a higher number of main cast from last season.
Honestly, this for me has been a big part of the problem, with trying to fit in too many characters at the expense of previously established cast. Add in that William's story has made absolutely no sense since Russell died, especially since Nia and even Kelly could've handled the same storylines; it just seems a complete mess.
This isn't about who you ship or who you prefer as a character. Everyone is suffering because of the uneveness of it all. Alex has no cohesive story so far (even though she has a good amount of screen time). Kara and Lena have the screen time, but it also feels really clunky of late, and getting ridiculously drawn out; although I'm hoping since the 100th we'll see it begin to smooth out. The Danver sisters, Brainia, Dansen, even Lena and Kara (whether you view it platonic or as Supercorp is neither here nor there on this and I'm not about to get into arguments that are not relevant to what I'm trying to say here), J'onn with Alex and Kara, Nia and Kara, Brainy and Lena; the list goes on. Every single interaction seems to be suffering.
We all invest in characters, but overall it feels like a mess of unnecessary pairings (Lex and Brainy, Kara and William primarily) or cast additions that has detracted from all characters, and the crux of the story seems to have been lost in the midst.
I really want Supergirl to show us otherwise, but this is about the 3rd or 4th time I've written similar posts, and there has been no or little forward momentum. Time is now against the show as much as the problems it has generated, and there is no way sidelined cast will be able to pull the numbers back up, even with centric episodes like Nia in 5.15. Will Kelly get a more centric episode that doesn't revolve around her brother? Nothing suggests she does, so she'll lose further ground, which in turn means so will Dansen. Brainy has been used a lot, but again at the expense of all the previous pairings the viewers were invested in (whether it was Alex and Brainy, Brainia, Brainy and Lena or to a lesser degree Brainy and Kara).
But hey. Don't worry. William is here to save the day and the girl. *sarcasm, in case anyone wasn't sure*.
