Thank you for introducing me (a pokémon fan who can't afford the games) to the real Anabel.
After seeing the mess they did in the Anipoke, what do you think of the headcanon that Anipoke's Anabel is not the true one because she's a psychic-type manipulative Ultra Beast that took her place after she fell in the ultra-wormhole? I'm kinda doing this to cope with the fact that I grew up with the dub of a dub of the anime based on the game.
My copium headcanon is a bit funny tbh! Ash is kinda canon in the games, but not in the way we think? A Pikachu appears in Alola referred to a renowned movie actor and there's a picture of Ash with Pikachu in the run down mega-mart that Acerola's trial is at.
In a sense, Ash Ketchum is canon but just as an anime character still or a live action series actor. He's actually a set of different boys that have to be replaced because it's a long running series and the actors always age out of the role.
Scott, and effectively Anabel, were given the opportunity to be a part of the show to promote the Battle Frontier... But there were so many executive changes that they decided not to go through with it in the end. Anabel took one look at the script and said "no." (Lucy nearly burned it and Scott had to tear her away before she tore all the execs all a new asshole.)
So the show probably wrote in some brand new characters for Kanto instead. Anabel's spiritual replacement was someone entirely new and had the whole psychic thing going. TBH? If it was just a brand new character, I think she would have been cool. You could give her a new outfit and new hairstyle, and still keep it purple. It truly is that bad that if you just give her a new design and a new name, the character is fixed. Outside of Alakazam, nothing carried over from game!Anabel so LMAO;;;;
edit:
tbh I think I'd love to give this character a design someday. Like really truly I don't hate the character, I just hate the association.
