i know people like to pass around the heihachi has 25 children tweet and i usually take it as shits and giggles but i'm seeing people seriously taking it as CANON (not debating if it is, but acting like it is SOLID CANON). it's like. harada can't even remember what happened in the previous tek games, do you think he remembers what he said in a tweet from 12 years ago?

The mistreatment and character assasination of Asuka Kazama
We can all agree that Tekken 8 has been the nail in the coffin for Asuka´s character development and treatment in general.
Asuka Kazama was introduced in Tekken 5 as an ambiguous Kazama style user, lover of animal, justice and nature.
Us veteran can agree that that we all thought at first that either Asuka was Jin´s little sister or a cousin of Jin Kazama.
After Jun´s disappearance in Tekken 3 and her reintroduction in the non canonical game of Tekken Tag, her spot was pretty much empty since even Jin, pretty much abandoned Kazama Style after the events of Tekken 3.
Now, we can start analazying who she was first and how her relevance to the story and future plans for her were pretty much obliterated.
Asuka was presented as a tomboyis girl that loved to make peace on her terms, even stopping gangs from killing each other.
She loved bicycles and wore a sports outfit. Her dojo was mostly destroyed and her father injured because Feng Wei was in a rampage trying to basically, level up his skills and demonstrate that he was the stronger warrior out there.
She joined the tournament, not knowing absolutely anything about Jin. Surprisingly, she had the same Kazama powers as Jun, healing and resurrecting (????) Devil Jin to the point of expelling the Devil out of Jin. After a ...well, "funny", embarrasing and kinda disgusting moment with Jin, people started to speculate A LOT. (you known, the boob scene)
Her popularity grew, opening new mysteries about the Kazama family and the part that they were gonna play in the future.
Fanfics blew up, edits, theories...
Now, pretty much in Tekken 6 they tease us that somehow they are related to each other. Jin went nuts with WW3... this is where the problem starts.
She had zero relevance to the story. You could think, oh "Lars is a new character, she can join with him to defeat Jin because she has this powers or for whatever reason because she just wants to stop him", but nope... she just had a few lines, boring ending that had nothing to do with it and then, gone.
Tekken 7 was focused on Heihachi and Kazuya mostly to the point that Jin was comatose THE ENTIRE GAME. So obviously, Asuka was out of the conversation too. She then got involved into this stupid rivalry with Lili which I learnt how to love because I find them very gay and I love my lesbian girlies. But that´s another topic.
A lot of veterans were thinking which type of relevance was going to have Asuka, since Jun was back, Kazuya was now the nº1 public enemy and Jin was having a crisis with his Devil Gene.
This is the point where her character and relevance died to never (probably) come back.
She just...joins the team with Lili, asks the type of family that she is with Jin which is basically non existen, they are part of the same clan... but not closely ralated, doesn´t even help exorcising Jin or Kaz and just when we thought she was going to be present in Yakushima only for her TO NOT EVEN BE THERE. Her powers??? which powers? Namco forgot about them, not relevant at all...
I just give up at this point. Fans are trying to cope with the fact that in Tekken 9 she will help exorcising Reina because her and Jun are the only ones with powers now but I´m telling you... nothing is going to happen. With Jun? obviously, she has gain even more popularity now been one of the strongest and best fighters and characters in T8 but Asuka? not development, nothing. Forget it, she won´t have any relevance in Tekken 9. It makes me really sad because they could expand the Kazama family with her father and Jun maybe joining or making a team to defeat Kaz or Reina but nope. Mark my words, Asuka won´t have relevance in the future.
They even made a inside joke with Hwoarang thinking that she was Jin´s little sister.
The level of disrespect that Namco had with this characters is astonishing. So yeah, I guess I only have left fanfics and that´s about it.
Thanks for my talk about the Horrible Murder... of Asuka Kazama.

thinking about lee and as much as I like the thought of he and kazuya having an actual sibling bond that wouldve made both of their childhood more bareable, considering what we have canonically, I think less and less this was the case
heihachi only adopted chaolan to serve as a rival to kazuya thanks to his fighting abilities, in the old canon it was so kazuya would get an opponent strong enough to make him stronger to be worthy of the zaibatsu, now in the t7 retcon that heihachi knew of the devil gene all along, you can also make the theory that he adopted chaolan and put him against kazuya in a sort of "divide and conquer" kinda way: redirect some of kazuya's anger onto this little street rat who pose a threat to his status as sole heir so heihachi wouldnt deal with kazuya's focused hatred and risk of going devil-mode any day.
As for kazuya, well ever since the cliff, his one and only goal has been to take his revenge on heihachi, like sure taking over the zaibatsu and finally getting a taste of the power heihachi had over the world was a nice reward but the main goal has always been to take down heihachi, and it was a really lonely quest I dont think he wouldve let anyone else take a part in, hes the main character in his own mind if you will. Lee mightve been the one to really consider kaz a brother as a way to legitimate his status in the mishima family but I think to kazuya, lee cruelly might has well been furniture, a living training dummy (which makes lee making combot later kinda interesting)
speaking of combot, his ttt2 ending really fascinates me, especially when you put lee in the equation
youtube
cause like, the beginning where its shakily walking in the streets? the sunken child bicycle in the dump? the crow, both feeding on garbage and an usual omen of future death? Combot looking at a huge factory and seeing cars get broken and thrown away again and again because collapsing itself? And finally being found by violet craddling him? If you're insane like me and just love to look too much into it, it just reminds me of a lot of lee's personal life like how he was an orphan living in the streets, then him suffering at the hands of the mishimas/the mishima zaibatsu before he finally broke away from it and created his violet persona and his own company violet system, yknow?
Idk lee is a pretty fascinating character because while hes not biologically a mishima, he still has mishima roots, found in his fighting style that he cant really shake away, and he also has kinda inherited heihachi's charisma and general business aspirations, but hes not evil or AS evil as his adopted father and brother (the downside of being raised by heihachi), he successfully managed to (partly) get away from the family drama, and that mishima money made him grow up fabulous and bilingual with a catchphrase. excellent👍
