Eddie chose their bachelor party outfits

Buck explains that it was an 80’s themed party and that he was dressed as Crocket and Eddie as Tubbs, then Eddie corrects him and says HE is Crockett and Buck is Tubbs.

We all know Buck’s pop culture knowledge is lacking and the fact that he got their character names mixed up and Eddie corrects him tells me that Eddie chose them. Why is this interesting?

Because Crocket and Tubbs are the guys from Miami Vice. If you don’t know it we’ll forgive you since it aired from 1984 – 1989, before a lot of you were probably born or old enough to be watching it. Before either Buck or Eddie were born too, by the way (and Christ don’t I feel old since I was in high school when it ended).

So, Eddie choosing to go as Sonny Crockett is FASCINATING to me. Quoting heavily from this article:

“Sonny struggles with depression, gets attached easily and just as easily hurt and makes dad jokes. Sonny is prickly, vulnerable, and deeply sad. I would also argue that he’s pretty heavily queercoded, and I don’t think it’s entirely unintentional.”

Sound somewhat familiar at all?

Interestingly, the penultimate episode of season 1 is titled Evan. Why is that interesting, you ask? As this article says, “Oh, you know, it’s then the moment Sonny’s possible bisexuality starts to seem like an intentional implication rather than an accident of incautious scripting”…

There’s a lot more to Miami Vice of course, and my memory of it is filtered through 30 years of life so it’s not perfect. You can find out more for yourselves if you want. I just find it very interesting that it’s Eddie who went as Crockett instead of Buck.

Interesting and exciting when we view it through the lens of Buddie possibly going canon in the future.

Why did you choose to be Crockett, Eddie? What is your subconscious telling you that you aren’t ready to hear yet Mr Diaz ‘who freaked out that your girlfriend was a Catholic nun’, hmmm?

Rei Kawakubo ( 川久保玲) is a Japanese avant-gardist of few words, and she changed women’s fashion.

Kawakubo was born in 1942 in Tokio, three years before the atomic bombs landed on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. She studied the history of aesthetics—both Japanese and Western—at Keio University, worked in advertising for a spell at a textile company, and then started working as a freelance stylist in 1967. Kawakubo opened her first office in Paris and staged her first Comme des Garçons ("Comme des garçons” means “like some boys), show there in 1981. Not surprisingly, one of her favorite themes is punk, which was waking up the world to the principles of individual choice and just-do-it spirit just as her brand was finding its feet. Her conceptual clothes, mostly black and often tattered with holes, were an affront to the sexy, body-conscious fashions of the time—such as Mugler and Montana. But over the course of the '80s, Kawakubo's intellectual and feminist take on fashion often mirrored the cultural and emotional turmoil of women infiltrating the male-dominated work world. It also began to influence a new generation of designers

Being one of fashion's most influential designers, Rei Kawakubo strives to challenge the form the traditional garment. Kawakubo is the second living designer to be honored for an exhibition at the Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This Comme des Garçons exhibition in particular highlights key themes that have inspired and continue to inspire her creativity as a designer.In the context of the human form, the body is radically reconsidered. She proposes new ideas of beauty by creating organic forms and protrusions in her garments, creating outfits that discard standard sizes. An example of an exhibition in which she radically questions form is her spring/summer 1997 collection, known as "Body Meets Dress, Dress Meets Body". Through this exhibition Kawakubo is targeting body modification through dress, generating unstructured dresses and forms that don't highlight on erogenous zones of the body. By doing this, she is also questioning ideas surrounding gender and the body creating transgressive forms, discarding stereotypes surrounding the female.

Kawakubo’s clothes may have the rigor of modernist architecture but there are loose flaps, extraneous arms, and asymmetrical edges that let the wearer improvise her own particular style of dress. It is not rare to see shredded dresses, blood-red hoods, or large bulges protruding from odd places on the “Comme” runway. The clothes look like they are designed to reject description, indeed, they seem to be deliberately constructed to confuse and repel bystanders. This act of rebellion may come off as shock theater, but it actually offers something much more compelling: distance that allows for self-expression. In avoiding trends and convention, Kawakubo’s clothes embody a clear mantra: when others do not understand you, they are unable to define you. Ultimately, it is up to you to define yourself, be it through your clothes or the things that you say. Dressing for yourself, as opposed to dressing to make others comfortable, is an act of freedom that only fashion can offer.

Dickey Betts

Guitarist, singer and founding member of the Allman Brothers Band best known for writing their 1973 hit Ramblin’ Man

Dickey Betts, who has died aged 80, was a founder member of the Allman Brothers Band, one of the most influential US “southern rock” groups of the 1970s. The hard-living outfit blazed out of Jacksonville, Florida, in 1969 with a mix of rock, blues, country and jazz that defined the genre, also influencing artists such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, the Black Crowes and Kid Rock. They scored several platinum and gold albums and were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Although the six-piece band was ostensibly led by the blond- haired Allman brothers, Duane and Gregg (guitar and keyboards/vocals respectively), as joint lead guitarist, singer and main songwriter Betts played a crucial role. A larger than life character with his cowboy hats, long moustache and gunslinger good looks, Betts wrote many of the band’s best loved songs, including Jessica, Blue Sky and the 1973 US No 2 smash Ramblin’ Man, inspired by life on the road.

The signature duelling of Betts’s and Duane Allman’s lead guitars rewrote the rule book of how twin guitarists play together - previously one had played lead and the other rhythm. The band’s huge fanbase included President Jimmy Carter, and in 2020 Betts even received the rare accolade of a mention in a Bob Dylan song, when Murder Most Foul contained the line “Play Oscar Peterson, play Stan Getz/Play Blue Sky, play Dickey Betts.”

He was also the inspiration for the rock star character played by Billy Crudup in the former rock journalist Cameron Crowe’s film Almost Famous (2000), the director having been drawn to Betts’s aura of “possible danger and playful recklessness behind his eyes”.

Betts was born in West Palm Beach, Florida, one of the three children of Harold, a carpenter, and his wife, Sarah (nee Brinson), who wrote poetry and played the cornet in a Salvation Army band. Although his father was also a keen fiddler, Dickey’s first instrument was the ukelele, which he started playing aged five, later graduating to the mandolin and the banjo.

He was at West Gate elementary school when he wrote his first song, Seven Years With Pamela, about his sister. He then attended various West Palm Beach schools until seventh grade, dropping out of high school when he was 16, by which time his pursuits included carpentry, hunting and listening to the Grand Ole Opry on the family radio.

Hearing Chuck Berry’s Maybellene in his mid-teens prompted another switch of instrument, as he “started realising that girls like guitars”. He dropped out of high school aged 16 to tour the US with a travelling circus in his first band, the Swinging Saints, but was playing in Second Coming with the bassist Berry Oakley when Duane Allman invited both men to join his new group.

The lineup was completed by the drummer Butch Trucks and – unusually in white-dominated 60s southern rock - a black second drummer, James Lee Johnson, who had previously played with Otis Redding and Percy Sledge.

Although sales of their first two albums were sluggish, Duane Allman’s appearance on Eric Clapton’s 1970 album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs – which included the classic hit Layla – boosted the heavy-touring Allman Brothers Band’s rising profile. Their 1971 live album At Fillmore East sold 1m copies.

After Duane Allman and Oakley were killed in motorcycle accidents in 1971 and 1972 respectively, Betts led a rejigged lineup. The 1973 album Brothers and Sisters – featuring Ramblin’ Man and the instrumental Jessica, later the theme to the television motoring show Top Gear – topped the US charts for five weeks, while 1975’s Win, Lose Or Draw went into the Top five. By then the band were succumbing to a familiar music industry cocktail of success, drugs, alcohol and feuding.

Betts and Gregg Allman both made solo albums, before Betts felt betrayed when the latter testified against the band’s road manager in a 1976 drugs case and refused to work with him again. Nevertheless, they regrouped in 1978, splitting again in 1982.

A second comeback in 1989 proved more enduring, although in 2000 Betts was fired over his drinking. That third spell in the band had been dogged by alcohol and drug abuse, lawsuits and arrests, and in 1996 he was charged with aggravated domestic assault after pointing a handgun at his fifth wife, Donna (nee Stearns), whom he had married in 1989. The charges were dropped after Betts agreed to enter rehab.

In his later years he returned with his own Dickey Betts Band and played in the band Great Southern with his son Duane. True to his ramblin’ man credentials, he remained on the road to the last, even after brain surgery following a 2018 fall at home, and he released live albums well into his 70s.

He is survived by Donna and his children, Kimberly, Christy, Jessica and Duane.

OH FOR MORO! YES

roots: Is your OC's look inspired by any specific style of clothing or fashion trend? What are the roots and/or inspiration for their look?

Morolai has quite a FEW different looks and themes that go with them, and each can be charted with different points of her story. So I'm going to talk about her key/core designs first!

HAIR: The big, 80s-style XMen hair was the very first thing I put down to paper for her. I wanted BIG. PURPLE. HAIR. I can't remember the initial inspiration for it even, but I know I've loved Storm's older designs for so so long and LOVE THE HAIR. A lot of times when I make characters they already spring out of my head mostly formed, like Athena with Zeus lol.

CLAWS: Came immediately after the hair. Gradient claws/fingers/hands is SUCH a favorite design element of mine. I'd been looking for a character to do it with for a little while and my draconic bloodrager was the perfect choice.

EARS: Came later! I was looking for more ways to show off her draconic heritage that wasn't explicitly scales. Mino has scales, and as much as I love love love scales, I didn't want TWO heavily scaled characters (out of consideration for the artists I commission lmao). So, modifying her half-elf ears to be serrated and blackened like a dragon was the key here! I ultimately really like how they've come out.

WINGS: Also came way later! I didn't want her to always have wings. I wanted them to be a body-horror type event for her, representing how weird it is to spontaneously grow wings at like level 12 or whatever it is. I also wanted to lean more on her claw fighting-ness and one immediately thing loomed in my mind: Nero's deviltrigger form from DMC.

They come out the back and instead of a single talon are hands with claws, AND! They cling to his shoulders like a cape. I shamelessly borrowed this design for Moro but made them look more draconic to fit with her aesthetic.

Okay now for

OUTFIT:

First, Moro is a half-elf bastard in the literal sense: her elven mother had an affair with a mysterious man she thought was a fellow elf in Greengold. Unknown to her, he was a half-elf with a powerful latent draconic bloodline that skipped right over him, but still presented in mostly elven features. Her mother's husband put together that the child was not his after Moro was born in Kyonin, and to hide the great embarrassment to their family name [quite well-known and powerful politicians] they raised her as a servant. Moro was raised forced to clean up after her mother and half-siblings, knowing all the lavishness was just as rightfully hers--and something in her very being told her she deserved it.

As a young teen, that thing in her awoke, that black dragon who had been coveting that which was denied to her since her birth. In a moment of rage towards her not-father, she grew her claws and tore off his face. This was not a moment of horror for her, but of actualization and euphoria. She WAS powerful. She WAS deserving. She WAS RIGHT.

She was also a criminal, so she fled, but happily! lol

Her early look from the start of Kingmaker is very much that of a woman who is escaping repression: it's revealing and slutty and has so many design elements of all the things she's wanted and was never able to take for herself! A little hippy, a little boho, a little goth, a little refined, a little of a Varisian slant here or Ustalavic there as she starts experimenting with looks that are distinctly NOT Kyonin. It's out there and a little tacky and overdone in places! But this is a young woman who has been dressed in rags her whole life that has a DRAGON in her heart that wants more and more and more. She's got to make up for lost time with everything at once.

Her tastes are mercurial through the years as she becomes Baroness and then Queen of the Stolen Lands, though begin to take on spite and pettiness as her main themes. She will specifically commission and wear outfits tailored for her enemies as she meets them to get under their skin.

Plants. Plants plants plants. "I'm going to wear you like a fucking ribbon after I'm done with you." Very purposefully selected to earn the nymph's rage and ire... I imagine she wore something similar when meeting with the Kyonin hunting parting for Jaethal, too!

QUEEN:

It's been years at this point. Moro is older and more mature. She's settled comfortably into colors like deep red and purple and black, but there's one major thing that lives through her design motifs: thorns and roses and flowers. Triumphing over Nyrissa, she's taken the dark floral motif as an aesthetic of her rule. Even her crown is made from the remains of Briar, and still contains motes of the nymph's sorrow and despair in it.

She revels in it.

One last thing - headband!

The main thing that doesn't change is her headband/hair-covering! When I made Moro's initial design, the big hair was the first thing followed by the ears and claws. I leaned on the lolita fashion for this, a little lacey bonnet type of deal, and decided to incorporate it into her story: it's like a cleaner's hair covering. She'd wear them all the time as a servant for the household and wearing a very similar but fashionable article there instead as a deliberate choice is like a personal fuck-you and reminder to herself where she came from.

RGG/Yakuza/Judgement General Headcanon

YAKUZA

Kiryu: - He is a certified mama’s boy. Older woman love him. - if he could would casually dresses like he is from a 90’s sitcom. Can’t understand fashion especially whatever clown outfits people are wearing these days (THAT HE BETTER NOT SEE HARUKA PUT ON) - retired ddr/stepmania king, he was playing tournaments of with Nishiki and was killing it, ahh the good days -lowkey/deep down is an otaku - almost fainted when Haruka first had her periods even Akiyama had to explain how they works. - after Haruka, Izumi is the most attached to him.

Akiyama: - if he could, he would Wears Kimono 80% of the time at home and when he doesn’t have to wear suit for formal reasons, like wearing sandals and a regular kimono at the grocery store - love to karaoke with Kiryu. They sing Japanese 80s classics. Haruka: - is secretly shipping her favorite uncles behind their backs with her friends. She likes when Kiryu spends time with Nishiki (her favorite ship)

Nishiki: - for some reason keep attracting rich old men asking for his number - is very uncomfortable around older women (they seem to like him a lot) - likes bowling

Daigo: - was probably the most hardcore Kanye West fan during his rebellious phase but wants nobody to know about it, especially Majima. Daigo, himself cringe thinking of himself singing the lyrics by heart and dancing by himself. Majima: - love to do goofy workout videos with his kyodai. Even his back almost broke more times than he would like to admit, contrary to his kyodai who can do everything from start to finish. - loves to come to the orphanage and help out. His favorite activity is to organize birthdays. He always come up with a theme and a whole scenario/activities for the day based on what the person likes. One time on a princess theme birth day for Eri, he dress Kiryu as a prince and majima played his part with passion. Since he is a little better at understanding ‘’the younger generations language’’ and what they like, he successfully convinced Kiryu (and all the other uncles) to dress up as a kpop boy band for Haruka’s 20th birthday (her friends looooove it)

Saejima: - likes to dance and keeps it between him and majima - Is (kinda) into survivalism and camping. Majima kinda clowns him saying “the world is gonna end soon and we’re gonna die anyway” but never refuses a camping trip (summer or winter) with his kyoudai. Also while Majima loves calling him a “conspiracy theorist” he be the first to dig in his sworn brother’s stockpile when the power goes out.

Ryuji: - he was in coma, but now is in America with kaoru. - is fluent in English but has a tendency to roll his R’s (his English is better than his Korean no matter how many times joongi tries) - is a dedicated TWICE fan. He likes to mock Kiryu since he loves them just as much as him but will never admit it. Kiryu says there’s no better idol than Haruka, even though he sings all their songs with her at the karaoke. On the other hand, ryuji’s excitement for the group makes han joongi cringe, he doesn’t understand the hype about these idols. Why not like him instead? - he’s best friend with han joongi. - his female best friend is Hana.

Yuya: - laughs really loud - kazuki simp (lowkey crushes on him) - my boy is handsome got heart and is handsome. kazuki: - Korean born in japan

Hana: - for some reason, get along so well with Ryuji.

Nishitani: - is proud about the fact that he never get brain freeze (so bites in popsicles/ice scream with his teeth raw and inhales slush like water) - like whiskey more precisely hibiki.

Mine: - ok the boy is bougee but sometime (especially in relation to others people #superioty complex) acts like he have never touch a bottle of Gatorade (that’s like his favorite drink) - doesn’t drink alcohol at all, since he vow himself to be daigo’s designated driver (to the occasional whisky by himself and few rounds with his boss) - hold his liquor contrary to daigo who is a mess after few glasses -pay attention and really cares about how his hands looks.

Baba: - kinda suck with women (incel/red pill/female hater in training), he goes after/desires girls out of his league and get crushed everytime, you know the female ryuji or the yumeno of the world (saejima would have no issues getting on them). Regardless how much saejima tells him to review his choice of women (basically to review his dating game), he ignores him and is keep getting rejected and is obviously growing bitter. - pairs himself with Yasuko (in its head to avoid getting beat up by saejima)

Makoto: - I don’t want to call her a feminist, BUT SHE IS SURE TAKING NO SHIT FROM NO MAN - low key likes bad boys, she would like to date a man built like Lee-san. Hence why she kinda has a crush on saejima

Sagawa: - (idk why) but deepdown he has a thing for transgenders and crossdressers but will never tell nobody about it, hence he was so eagered for majima to keep his long hair and even put him in drag to humiliate him.

Shimano: - looks like someone with a foot fetish idk…

Mirei: - dancing mom type, since she wanted to be a fresh kpop star herself, she is kind off projecting with Haruka and using to live her dream trough her - really believes majima and saejima are gay.

Minami: - HE IS THE HOMIE OF ICHIBAN, YOU CANT CHANGE MY MIND - thinks he is more attractive than what he really is - is a certified dancer. He really loves dancing, he would probably be a choreographer if he was not a yakuza, actually creating choreographies is one of his favorite hobbies - has a (huge) crush on ITZY’s Yeji.

Kashiwagi: - listen to jazz music

YAKUZA 7/LIKE A DRAGON

Ichiban: - the leader of dance crew - let’s crash at your place to watch the NBA finales, I bring beer and chips. - knows how to play the entire wind instrument family - regardless climbing out of homelessness, he still lives in less fortunate neighborhoods. Honestly he feels more comfortable there contrary to high class suburb where masato lives. He is close with his neighbors, he loves to help out the old woman next door. Since she lives by herself at her age, he is constantly worried for her and even spends entire days chatting, cooking, cleaning with her. They both love to share to each other life experiences. He loves stories and is impress since he spend so much time in jail, not knowing much about the outside world. Also a lot of kids on his block, look at him like a big bro. - for some reason, his favorite animal are bees. He goes hard for them.

Eri: - is a secret freak and adores the bad boys - she will learn anything if it means to impress someone she likes. She practices dance (and other things) to impress ichiban

Adachi: - is lowkey scared of really assertive women, especially if they are older. - regardless his nonexistent romantic life, Is always trying to give nanba, joongi and kashiwagi dating advices

Nanba: - cant stand strong colognes

Han Joongi (Y7) - likes flowers especially for their smell. Hang Joongi (Y6) - cant keep a shirt on - thinks he can pull any girl based on the fact that he is ‘’Hot & Korean’’ alone, when corner or rejected he will resort to singing (play super junior – no other. yep, that song) or ‘’Do you know BTS?’’. His egc’n'tnt take rejection, he will squeeze till the end - Almost fought Zhao due to a misunderstanding, (I think he said he didn’t like kpop or something idk) - under his ‘’I get all the hoes’’ personality, he is the most single dude in the world

Zhao: - is a nicki minaj, doja cat & jolin tsai fan - had a phase when mabachi couldn’t come in town anymore where he would sleep with all types of dudes - the type of person who cant stand it when you pull up old pictures of them especially from high school or middle school when he was going trough his hardcore anime phase. - It may sound weird but, he (along with mabuchi) have a hard time getting along with Tachibana. Regardless how kind he is they still see him as an outsider. Even ichiban scratch his head at the pungent awkwardness when tachibana and zhao are in the same room. Even tesso is trying to to do something about it since he has no negative feelings towards Tachibana but can see that zhao is resisting,

Mabuchi: - doesn’t look like it but is an electronic expert - big dick period masato Arakawa: - for some reason really wants jo and masato to join him and ichiban so they can all live in the same house

Jo sawashiro: - though at first ichiban was Mexican (latino or haifu) and attached with it all types of negative stereotypes - treats masato with the same overprotective-ness Kiryu would have for haruka - presumes ichiban doesn’t know he slept with his dad in his younger years

Hajime ogasawara : - tried to date masato but got rejected. Fake smiles and fake friendship in public and keep their connections in the political world.

Hamako: - she is a lesbian

JUDGEMENT/LOST JUDGMENT/JUDGE EYES

Yagami: - ddr king, his foot game in unmatched

Kaito: - dancing king better than yagami (like hip/body roll, dance on beat better) - RNB guy (like early 2000s hip hop and rnb) along with akutsu. - regardless ‘’dumb as brick’’ impression many have of him, sit is actually a really romantic guy even Yagami was surprised when he saw it

tsukumo: - looks cute/funny when he eats spicy food (poor thing) - had yagami track down and beat up ps5 bots and reseller - likes Perfume. (period) - likes to repair broken or old electronics and figurines - otaku - everyone was surprised to see that a lot girls crush on him, especially when the crew (yagami, sugiura, higashi, hoshino and kaito) went to a hostess club to see many cute big boobs hostesses all over him liking the fact that he is shy (they say that makes him more cute *pinches tsukumo’s cheek*)

Higashi: - likes to cook for kids and Kaito. Akutsu Daimu: - laughs REALLLY loud. Like clapping hands, stumping feet loud. - almost destroyed a whole room after an argument with Ryuji over Uno game rules - Sneaker head - get along well Kirara (like that’s my girl). Soma tries to put himself in the middle of it, to play mr. manipulator.

Kyoko: - wants to acts like she doesn’t but writes fan fictions and uses them express her creativity or document the cases she has solved.
