Circa 550 BC, an Etruscan vessel in the shape of a suspended hare, from ancient Italy. This artifact is now housed at the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore, Maryland, United States.
Is there a reason baby tarantulas look like that?? They seem so vulnerable
they seem vulnerable because they are vulnerable! at that stage they're still inside of the safety of their mothers eggsack, but here at the shop we have to open that sack up and ensure that all of the slings inside are ok (there can be issues with mites or mold, or sometimes they just don't form right and need to be discarded before they rot). after that they're moved into a little incubator where they can keep growing until they're established enough to be housed in their own containers and fed :-)
here are the same slings just a few days later at their 1st instar! looking MUCH more like proper tarantulas now
