yes so much yes to this entire post!!

i do feel like, as the number one demise guy, i also need to mention that not only does it a huge disservice to ganondorf, but it also is to demise (not at all in the same dimension mind you, gan is alot more than demise ever was and will be), i know i have said it before but, he doesnt even get to be a character at all either, hes just evil and thats all he is and all hes meant to be- there are interesting things you could do with the idea of hatred personifed but its pretty goddamn clear what the actual intent is and also that few to no one think about it at all

whenever people talk about demise its only bc the "curse" and to reduce ganondorf to nothing but demise's puppet, either to make it ok to not even think about him as a person at all and isntead like some literal demon thing, some dude that got corrupted by a curse tm or an innocent uwu baby that is controlled by demise and thats why hes evil, he would be fwiends with the heros if he was freeed of it

its such a disservice to both, demise is only good for his "curse", he doesnt have to have a background or a reason, no personality, not even an origin, the only thing that matters and is ever talked about is him sputtering some easily missinterpretable words in the combined total screentime of 5 minutes before disintegrating forever; and ganondorf to most people is now just a flat contiuation of demise without taking a deeper look at either, demise doesnt need a reason? why would ganondorf need one then- etc

(and then theres a certain recent game that only makes it worse, not only by its general treatment of gan and shitty uncomfortably black and white writing, but also by intentionally imitating skyward sword in an, imo, extremely disrespectful and confusing way- rauru and sonia doing the same pose as link and zelda in skysw in that one concept art, ganondorf being called the king of demons, theres a reason alot of people were sure demise himself would return before the game was out bc of all the deliberate similarities (and in some way they werent wrong but all in the worst ways possible), CALLING IT THE FUCKING IMPRISONING WAR AGAIN AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-)

Every time I read a post about retiring Ganondorf as the main antagonist I lose a braincell. Should we retire Link as the hero? Why can’t we have a completely unrelated and brand new hero? Everyone talks about Gerudo Link but how about a Gerudo hero that is entirely their own character? How about retiring Zelda as the princess/sacrificial maiden? How about a game that revolves around the Zora monarchy or the Goron tribes?

This is not news I ever wanted to share with anyone online, but @maldreathezora, author of @anewcalamity, is currently in hospice care. Maldrea, or Faith, as I know her, has been fighting a very long, exhausting battle with cancer. Per those closest to her, her condition has progressed very quickly, and there is nothing more that can be done. I ask that those reading this post please do not ask for further details at this time while Faith is surrounded by the warmth and love of her family. 

Faith has always been an incredibly brave, joyous, and creative person. I gravitated towards A New Calamity many years ago, and had the privilege to work with her as an editor on the comic. It breaks my heart to have to deliver this message, but I know many have been waiting for an update since her last post in March. I also want to use this opportunity to bring awareness to Faith’s gofundme, which is being used to bring her the best comfort and care possible.

kind of expected that the ability breakdown wouldnt get that much traction (especially on twitter bc if it doesnt do well in the first few hours it might as well be dead) but what i didnt need to wake up to was looking at my twitter notifications and thinking there was a long comment on it at first but then i read it and it turned out to be some guy having dug up one of my old totk tweets where i talked about how zelda was treated-

and if a quote retweet with a thread attached already starts with "this entitled brat didnt understand that zelda was being a history nerd by being in the past and getting to experience it herself" with two screenshots attached of the end of totk with zelda staring at the cam all uwu (which has ??? to do with their point??) i dont even want to know what else was in that thread

if thats how the majority of the fandom is then im even less surprised that nintendy doesnt even have to try to write anything good :I

finally, all the arm and spirit abilities- for the first half of the game (rauru) and for the second half with the shiekah arm replacing links arms instead and the spirit abilities gained through ganondorf

(please excuse my handwriting and sometimes repeated info on the first two, i lost motivation/patience at the end and couldnt get myself to basically redo it all from scratch just to make it a bit more cleaner)

note, the camera rune is unconnected to the arm, its the shiekah stone copy link has (zelda carries the one from botw, a copy was attempted to be made for link but it lacks all runes except the camera, the map and its teleportation, and journal/archive)

note for the heal effects of some spirit abilities- im also reworking the healing system, making it more like the older games, so healing isnt as easy and much more restricted, thus making those effects of spirit abilities more valuable ( lil potion icon on the d pad will act a little bit like in skyward sword, opens your limited selection of healing items and if chosen link switches to holding it and letting you consume it with -a- while walking around in real time- to avoid more pausing and mass healing on regular items while in menu)

additional note, the automatic recharging of the magic meter depending on the environment gives you a reliable but less abusable way of using abilities and allows for even more creative dungeon/challenge design by using it effectively- it works by absorbing magic from its surroundings, so if its an area with little magic it recharges slower, if its a very spiritual or healthy place it will recharge faster, it can be used to make things more challenging and also as subtle storytelling (example, theres a graveyard with the magic energy around being off the charts, even if there are no spirits to see, it could hint at the people buried not having died peacefully, no matter what their gravestone says...)

the usage of magic and how much the different abilities cost also allows for a much more dynamic fighting style for players to choose and try out, balancing them all out with their cost instead of a fixed timer, and the recharging beign affected by the environment perhaps forcing players that favor high cost magic abilities to use the lower cost ones for example, or not being able to charge one up bc the enemy is too fast and doesnt give you enough time to charge it

about half of the small overworld dungeons (not shrines) are also locked/inaccessible for the first half and new quests appear as the second half commences- together with the additional changes raurus return brings with it (sonau buildings, enemies being mostly cosntructs that he summoned etc) and whole set of new abilities giving you a fresh new way to play while (hopefully) not making you feel too restricted for the first half

... making these detailed concepts took me longer than id like to admit q-q

i use a pen display tablet from Huion (cant remember the exact model rn, its a bit of an older one (a 2019 redone edition) idk if they still make it) on my desktop PC and Clip Studio Paint EX (Vers. 3 one time purchase, slowly upgraded it over years, my first version was one where it was still called Manga studio and came free with my first tablet xD) for all my art, be it illustrations, comics, animation or pixel art, though its less optimized for the latter with a few tricks it works just fine :3

someone on twitter spotted it but im gonna say it here too, the enemy i used as a target example (in the aiming scheme screenshot redrawings) is a sort of .. prototype for the new enemies spawning in the second half of the game-

its sort of inspired by the guardians in skyward sword but mixed with the sonau aesthetic and a smidge less panic inducing, the one i put there is a very large and heavy construct built like a turtle shell with big claw like swords and two smaller legs, they are very heavy and their steps are very loud but they are not slow at all, its supposed to be like a creepy tank bc they are hard to stagger and hit hard- when they are chasing you its supposed to have a similar effect as when one of the skysw guardians chasing you and their loud steps are the main way to let you know they are getting closer/after you

also one key design element i want to include for all constructs is that they have no face/eyes so there is no easily accessible weak point you can exploit and no instant signal to you that they have seen you like the botw guardians had with their laser
