Take a cancelled TV show, a movie that's bombed at the box-office, a comic series that's destined for the axe or just a bad novel. Examine it. Dissect it. Note where the creators succeeded and where they failed. Now rewrite, reboot or re-imagine the story. Make changes, take out or introduce new characters, alter the plot. Push beyond the parameters of whatever universe in which the story is set. Consider what Alan Moore did with Swamp Thing or Neil Gaiman's work on The Sandman or even the Battlestar Galactica reboot - transforming the original source into something completely different. You could turn it into fan-fic, a writing exercise or perhaps something more...
