Yami Yugi and Atemu
I wonder how much Atemu knows.
Would having his memory affect how he acted? I know things would have been different. Because Yami is not Atemu, he doesn’t even know who that is. The funny thing is at first he thought he was Yuugi because it’s the only thing that made sense to him. Then everyone told him he was the pharaoh. So he believed them. Never once did he really remember anything.
He believes what he’s told because he knows no better. People praise him for the things that he does so they must be right.
But Yuugi representing the pharaoh in appearance doesn’t mean Yami is the Pharaoh as shown with Ryou, Ryou and Thief kings appearances differ greatly and so do that of Yami Bakura and his former self Thief. Yami looks like Yuugi because it is the body he is possessing. Not because that’s how he looked in life.
For all we know and I would doubt this is true but it’s shown no one even Thief knows how the battle was ended. Zorc merely knew they lost. He lost. Maybe Atemu summoned Holactie giving up his life to summon the gods and bring fourth a goddess. Maybe those were his Ka’s all along? And he died in battle but Zorc and Holactie were evenly matched. Or perhaps they didn’t even get to that point in the battle maybe Atemu was never destined to defeat Zorc but he was chosen by fate to have three Ka beasts within him so that he could help those he loves defeat the darkness instead. Sacrificing himself to seal the gods into tablets so that someone may call to them and have them merge to form Holactie. Maybe she wasn’t involved in the first show down cause no one knew how to summon her. The gods alone could not defeat Zorc, so Heba enraged with his loves death despite just being the page boy used the puzzle and the items to trap Zorc and Thief in the ring in turn trapping himself and as a fail safe left by Mahado in the ring and with Atemu’s sacrifice it sent out a power surge and wiped Heba’s memories/that or he forgot due to trauma of the entire day and Thief and Zorc’s because a burry mess fuelled by a rage that slowly looses its reason the longer the ring festers in their souls. Thus involving season 0 and earlier season 1 actions, Heba was still carrying a now unjustified rage because it wasn’t fair. He wanted justice just like Thief. He just didn’t know what for. Then he met Yuugi and I mean actually met him and they begun their time together. (Though if this was the case I’d love for Heba to be in Thief’s game and revive his memories then just stare at himself in the water tears pricked in his eyes, hugging his waist. ‘I always wanted to be in your arms. But not like this.’ Then Yuugi shows up behind him calling out and he jolts eyes filled with an unusual sensation of fear as he sees Yuugi approaching looking so warm. So happy to see him, thoughts race his mind whether Yuugi loves him or the idea of who they thought him to be. Everyone was so convinced he was the Pharaoh and he’d grown to love Yuugi as he had once and still did love Atemu but would Yuugi love him if he knew. He tries to play the role but he can’t lie to his partner and tells him. Perhaps I can’t remember if ‘Yami’ playing as Atemu in canon revived any memories but perhaps Heba was there too, their his memories too. Finding Atemu’s name didn’t help him but it released his first loves Ka’s so he could do what he was meant to do so in the first battle. Atemu whispering the Goddesses name in his ear. He wasn’t loosing Yuugi to this war too and summoned Holactie. Anyway, got slightly off topic. And even reviving his memories he wanted to finish what Atemu died to set in place. Since this is au enough I can continue with this plot how ever I please. Heba can realise that what Thief and himself fight for is the same. For the love of those they’ve lost. But he needs to end this dance of death for both of them so he defeats Thief without looking back. The final duel where he uses the God cards against Yuugi (from memory he does at least) he uses them to finally free his love from the shackles of destiny and they reunite in the after life or we fuck death and Yuugi can have Heba, Atemu and Anzu as life partners. That or Atemu stayed in the after life and dated Thief cause I like Casteshipping and Atemu can send Heba back to life because he knows that Heba also loves Yuugi too and he’s served him long enough it was time to live his own life and someday they’d all be together again and he knows no matter how long that takes Heba’s love for him will never fade and his won’t either type stuff IDK but Yuugi get’s two life partners at the very least, he just has too much love to give for just one).
Long story short we don’t actually know who’s in that puzzle. I can’t remember any concrete proof it was the pharaoh. Maybe his name went down in history for something someone else did in his demise. Maybe it was a cover up. Thief wouldn’t know. He died first. Everyone else just believes the history that’s been handed down to them and the visions that the items present to them. Plus I think the Ishtar’s are pretty good Proof that they were all just acting on their own accords. (Mostly cause I don’t believe for a moment they consulted anyone before sprinting underground, maybe they thought to seperate the items as their awaited the Pharaohs and the Thief’s return and just took their two and fucked over millennium of their family members before Malik murdered the cult with his alternate personality because he realised it was fucked up. That was once again off topic…anyway.) For all we know the items were just manipulating everyone to get history right. And if the gods were Atemu and they were released the prophecies wouldn’t necessarily be wrong. The Pharaoh was laid to his final rest with the destined duel.
Anyway back on topic again…
If Atemu retained his memories saying he was the one in the puzzle, how much did he remember, does he know Thief dies before the battle ends, does he know why Thief’s so desperately fighting him that he’d defy life and death for it. Did Atemu like as Yami just believe the things he was told, growing up in the palace, raised by those around him and taught what they believed, would he side with them. He might of seen it as the greater good, the items were created to save the world to cause peace (beautifully discussed in a post I read a while back, that also mentioned that no one expected Atemu to sacrifice himself but he did, if I find if I’ll link it otherwise let me know if you find it).
Would his time away from home, his time with Yuugi change his opinion, does he struggle at night whether to tell Yuugi everything he knows, would he doubt his past, he did what was right. He fought for justice, which is why Bakura angers him so much because he’s literally a ghost from his past, it’s clear that he’s different that he’s twisted and demented from the justice seeking Thief he once fought in his first life. He wants to move forward but he gets an unjustified rage seeing him because it forces him to admit that maybe the things he fought for, believed in was wrong. Because the thing was in memory world, Yuugi placed his faith in Atemu that he’d do what’s right and believed what he said was the right, they wanted to save the world and defeat Zorc. But Atemu even then showed no remorse for the lives taken to create the items, he looked the other way with no memories as he found out he just fought for what he had always known, that he was the hero and Thief was the villain and that was that, black and white.
There’s no real way to say how the battle truly ended the first time, this was a reenactment that was shown to be one that neither Zorc nor Thief knew how it ended, how they were defeated. Why they were trapped in the items isn’t clear at all times, maybe Thief/Zorc fused into the ring as an escape before they lost and maybe Atemu knew they’d return and sealed himself in the puzzle to continue the battle. But what exactly happened to their memories? was it a condition that he couldn’t remember, a fail safe as to not jinx the battles end (especially on Thief’s side), but why were Bakura’s left in better nick then Atemu’s? was it Zorc’s doing or Diabound’s? or did Atemu realise at the end and turn against the Gods and side with Thief realising the wrongs they’d done to him and being their hero, they took his betrayal very fucking personally. Maybe he went to the puzzle to do things right this time but they broke his mind upon entering in hopes this time he wouldn’t sway in loyalties and in a time and place unrelating to his past with a version of Thief that was a fragment of who he once was just living off rage and a dark god whispering in his ear for millennium, fuzzy memories plague him and a rage he can’t settle when he sees Yami because he knows it’s Atemu or at least he believes it’s him at least. It frustrates him he doesn’t remember and he doesn’t remember Atemu joining his side. So he doesn’t try to share, he doesn’t want to say it, the element of surprise was on his side and it’s been 5000 years in the waiting he wanted to do it right but he likes to make Yami question things such as messing with him in their duel on the blimp, he wants Yami to work it out himself even though he knows he never will.
BTW, take all this with a grain of salt cause my mind was just like who the fuck is Yami Yuugi. And went on a distracted tangent. I was actually thinking about Ryou and Yami Bakura then thought about Thief and the differences between them and then Atemu and then Yami, I consider Yami and Atemu seperate beings and peoples regardless of who they are, I just like thinking about how little we know about the ancient peeps. And since I spent like 5 hours randomly obsessing about this I wanna share it -_- have fun!

Yu-Gi-Oh! DM cast cooking skills: (Warning some of these got slightly off topic, mostly the Bakura's who I wrote this specifically for)
Yuugi: He's good at cooking, he can always offer a hot meal and snacks. Nothing too extravagant or fancy. Yuugi doesn't mind, he's more interested in games so cooking comes second to that. (Yuugi's slightly better then Kaiba but Kaiba knows more random dishes trying to appear superior, Yuugi doesn't care, he's not competing.)
Yami Yugi: He is a below average cook, he can cook. He's just not the best. He's willing enough to learn but kinda gets distracted, all this boy thinks about is card games and when he gets to sneak up to the roof to stare off in thought again. It's ok he does the laundry and other stuff, his partners cook for him. (BTW his partners are Yuugi and Anzu in this scenario) (Finally something Kaiba can beat him in)
Atemu: He can cook, but he just does the basics, knows a few different special recipes in case its a special occasion but otherwise just the basics. Does enjoy watching cooking shows and trying different recipes from other cultures. The main things he goes out of his way to cook is things from Egypt, though his memory is crappy, he tries recreating dishes from home. (Most times it takes a lot and I mean a lot of fucking trial and error, but if nothing else, no matter how many times he fails them. He knows that Ryou and Thief will eat virtually anything, so the food never goes to waste).
Anzu: Bench food. Muffins, cookies, things you can put on your bench for everyone to eat at random is her speciality, otherwise she's an average cook. Can make all the basics. Good hostess. Can write in sauces extremely well.
Jounouchi: His food doesn't always look the most appealing, but it's appetising and if he's cooking for you it's usually means your important to him so you can always see the effort put into his dishes and the search history on his phone. He's good at stews, curries and stir fries. Knows how to cook enough to survive and can make things out of whatever he's given.
Hiroto: Hiroto is a home cook, he knows his way around the kitchen. He's not a master chef and his food is average. Nothing special thats overly difficult to learn if you were bothered to try in the first place. His parents were busy with work, cooking was a necessity. Though his dog is one of the worlds best fed dogs around, Barkly's diet is top notch. Good on the BBQ.
Otogi: Master at making riceballs.
Miho: Basic cook. Likes the aesthetic more then actually cooking, she'll day dream up an entire meal then order take out. Only makes straight forward dishes, good at decorating. When she was a little girl she went through a cake icing stage and got really good at it. Still looks up things like whether to put the pasta in before or after boiling the water.
Seto: Can cook, has chefs to do it for him any way. Mostly learnt to cook as a child and then as a bit of a superiority thing. He didn't like the idea that he couldn't make him or his brother dishes of higher quality. He's Seto fucking Kaiba, there is nothing he can't do (expect beat a dead guy at a card game or the host the dead guy was possessing for like three years). Sure he's not the worlds best cook (despite his own opinion on the matter and stubbornness to not accept defeat in any aspect of his life), but he can cook.
Mokuba: Happier to let others cook for him or eat cereal out of a box, him and Ryou love snacking together. Spending a lot of time as a child and early teens being kidnapped and taken by strangers or guys claiming to want to kill an already dead King or take over his brothers company or being their third brother, etc. It was hard to find time to even learn to cook and get those skills. Mokuba at this stage is more likely to get take out or heat ups, if neither work. Then not eating for a little while is fine. Not that hungry anyway.
Ryou: Can not cook. For the love of all things holy, DO NOT EAT HIS FOOD. Ryou has a natural talent of fucking up everything possible in the kitchen, almost all his food comes along with a side of food poisoning or making you want to throw it back up immediately. He never bothered learning to cook too much mostly preferring to snack instead, so you'll find so many cookie, chip, marshmallows, chocolate etc packets all hidden around his apartment. This boy loves food, he will eat literally anything he's allowed. He doesn't care (besides seafood, thats where he draws the line). Everything else! Fair game! but this also doesn't help his cooking skills cause while they are horrid and not a single person has 'survived' his cooking, he'll still eat it. Good with teas, the master of tea though. (He'll go with you to hospital to get your stomach pumped though, so that's nice <3)
Yami Bakura: Catches everyone off guard, but he knows how to cook and he knows how to cook well. One of the best cooks in the cast (I head canon him as a chef btw so this may be a little bias, ok well it's all my personal opinions so all this is bias, but Bakura is a master in the kitchens). Between raising Ryou whose cooking skills are so shit he had to step up or spend their life in hospital getting Ryou's stomach pumped once again. And going along canon bases, with random ideas thrown in, so Ryou's step dads dead and his other dad is doing research over seas to help figure all this out, his mother and sister died previously to their other boyfriend, Ryou's step dad (the one from DSOD). I always liked the idea of even not in all my bloody twin au's, that Bakura despite not meeting Amelia, Ryou's mother in canon, did see her through Ryou's memories, he saw her in the kitchen and his memory of his own family as Thief have been pretty fucked around with Zorc and 5000 years to simmer these ideas. So he can barely remember their faces, he can't remember his own name let alone his brothers, still in Ryou's memories, when that woman smiles at him, it feels so warm and after a while of Ryou making accidentally poisonous food offerings to them, he wasn't sure why, he started taking over, buying books mostly and gauging things off pictures more so then words, he felt at peace when he was cooking, it was a break from revenge and sometimes he swore Amelia was cooking with him, it felt like home as scary as that idea was. So he helped raise Ryou cause he wanted better for his host and honestly even in canon I believe they had an oddly healthier relationship as children then as teens cause Bakura still didn't get people and with Yuugi and the puzzle, things got complicated. Like people note, Ryou could of easily turned out like him and Bakura doesn't notice as much but Thief does so deep down, Bakura does as well even if he doesn't realise it. He is protective of Ryou and raising Ryou, cooking for him, preparing those lunches, it made him feel more alive and in a way it was a break from all the hell in his life, so even with his own body. He found himself naturally doing it when he was trying to find himself and that's when Ryou pointed out he could do that as a job. (It's also good for anger management). He likes making sweets and cakes best and is currently running a cafe, Mako's the barista and drink expert (as well as fish expert), Bakura is the head chef and updates the menu at random when he finds a new food to be obsessed over, Ryou eats all of his random attempts when designing new recipes and Jayden (GX) is a waiter/cashier, cause this is my au and rambles so yeah... it's ok Jesse's working at a bookshop with Ryou and Mahado and Mana (she's part time cause she does magic shows and such instead), they sell magical items and stuff at the bookshop too. Regardless if you read this long, all I have to say, BAKURA CAN COOK! and Ryou gives you food poisoning.
Thief King: He can't cook. He likes to think he can but he can not. He will serve you raw meat and uncut uncooked onion. His vegetables are still partly frozen and begrudgingly added to meals. He can make basic things if someone else is there and convincing enough to convince him to follow a recipe but expect egg shells in your cakes and surprise ingredients to be added the moment you look away, he can make enough to survive and keep others alive but all basic. Not as bad as Ryou and he doesn't necessarily give you food poisoning or make you pump your stomach like some of Ryou's cooking does but if someone else is willing to cook maybe let Thief have the day off. He can make one type of biscuits cause he was doing 'research' (his reading shit, he likes pictures, so manga research) and noticed people these days give cookies to show affection so he learnt to give them to Ryou and his hubby, he would give them to Bakura but Bakura always takes one bite looks at him then crushes the rest. (He's still figuring out how to deal with his creation.) (I write the Bakura's as brothers btw not sure if I mentioned that earlier) He can make some curries but still double check that any meat in them is cooked properly. Though despite Thief can't cook, I do head canon him as a cleaner, he started it as anger management, plus the arts and other things kept leading to fights from smashing cavas's over others heads to kicking the other participants in yoga. But Thief likes to clean, you'd think he's trying to cover up a murder but he's just really good and thorough at it. So while he can't cook, he's usually the one cleaning the kitchen or re-cleaning it. (you can tell when he's had a bad day, the entire house will be bloody spotless ^-^)
Malik: Can't cook well, honestly he's a very basic cook, cutting skills are good and his freezer is over stocked with ice and so are the drinks he serves. Most things he eats when not being fed by someone else are left overs or I head canon him having a vending machine that he stocks with all vegan friendly food for himself to eat at his garage (his own mechanic shop, it's on a massive property so that he can collect scraps and stuff for cars and vehicles and other machines. Despite the late start and very much beginner level cooking skills he knows how to study, so you better bet he's very well informed on all things vehicles. He merely has no interests in learning about food or how to cook. (He'd still fail cooking if he did it in school, or just pass).
Yami Marik: It's not that he's any worse then Malik is, but there is a chance he may just poison your food just cause, why not? That or he may add too many spices cause it's fun to fuck around with others food and he'll just eat anything as long as it's vegan. (He's also the one who would play with his food, Thief sometimes helps him with that.) (That and no recipe can tell him what he can and can't add to a dish, fuck them.)
Rishid: Mostly learnt to cook to be useful at first and then to keep Malik alive, but became very good at the homemade goodness type food. He use to feel compelled to constantly make his brother proper food though as everything's come to an end, despite realising his brothers bad cooking skills he's come to realise that it's not his duty to cook daily for him either. He doesn't always need to be useful to be close with his siblings.
Ishizu: Like Rishid, if you want that homemade goodness, come to the older Ishtar siblings. She had too look after her self a lot and eating out wasn't an option for someone like them, though she will admit to using the necklace to check out recipes that she learns in the future, they're not always the clearest so they don't always work out but she tries her best. She got very good over the years.
Mahado: Able to feed large groups, he can put most things together into an edible meal, is he the worlds best cook? not even close, just very creative. Bakura mutters and bitches but does try stealing ideas off him from time to time. Mahado doesn't mind, he mostly just wants to make sure he can look after anyone who comes his way, mostly when Atemu and Thief have a fight and Atemu crashes at his place.
Mana: Can cook, does cooking classes. Needs the classes because this girl can not follow a recipe to save her life and why should she! theres just so many different options. Sadly unlike her big brother (who is Mahado in my opinion, he adopted her and she adopted him) most of her creative turns and attempts don't all turn out so well. She's only given the group food poisoning once though, so alls well there.
Pegasus: He doesn't eat. When he eats he gets other people to cook because it's all for show, massive feasts, but when it's just him he sits in his room drinking wine and snacking on whatever his workers leave by his side getting lost in painting. He can arrange/design and design food better then he can cook it. (Him and Miho would be on decorating if they were trying to help in a kitchen)
Mai: She didn't know how to cook growing up as much, but after moving out on her own she learnt. Makes a lot of basics and knows how to keep herself alive. That's all she cared about. Has a professional coffee machine at home. Won't buy cheap coffee.
Mako: Fish is his speciality, but don't let my water child fool you! Yeah, he's a sea food expert, but he's also makes the best coffee's, teas, smoothies, broths, anything with liquid and he's your man. Clam chowder is his speciality. He keeps it in a thermos. A joyful cook, sure he doesn't experiment far from his comfort zone, he's happy to help. He respects his food.
Espa: Ok, apparently his favourite food is Pizza. I did not know that, I'll be honest I don't think I've ever really thought about him besides once or twice so I looked xem up. So he's great with pizza I suppose, oven foods a must, but honestly he's just mostly specialises in easy to make for larger groups meals to feed his family. (sorry Espa, IDK what your up to in the kitchen)
Rex: Raw meat. He can make food from nothing, his potato's are shotily peeled and sliced apart but it's edible. Either swimming in sauce or not enough, snacks or random chip packets and whatever else he can fit in his rug sack. He can live on the road with his cooking. Best ribs in the business.
Weevil: He'd eat bugs. I know he loves them but he'd eat them anyway. Whole life cycle stuff, IDK what this has to do with his cooking skills really, but I mean him and Ryou can eat bugs together. I think Weevil's a better cook then Ryou (well everyones better then Ryou in this situation). Rex is oddly a better cook then him, but he won't admit nor agree to that. Weevil can make instant food rather then anything. He's well researched so he can 100% bullshit enough to make it seem like he knows what he's doing but he's just bullshitting and can't do half the stuff he knows the words for. Get Rex to cook for you instead.
Thanks for reading! Not sure if anyone actually read all those -_- but if you did, hope you enjoyed! I just really wanted to ramble, have a cookie 🍪🍪🍪 (or 3 cause I like 3's)

One of my favourite things when writing modern Thief King Bakura and Mahado interacting, is making Thief call Mahado, Magic Mike. Partly because it pisses Mahado off, but also because Thief thinks he's low key hot as fuck and refuses to just say that to him directly.

If Pegasus is 24 years old and he's the creator of Duel Monsters, Duel Monsters can't be over that old in their universe. It didn't seem like a prominent thing in his childhood either so we'll say it's around 8 years old? (making him 16 when he made it which I also have doubt about) Plus he's 8 years older then the main cast. So he would of made it around the time Yuugi was 8 and getting the puzzle and stuff.
(Which by all means makes sense cause unlike later series, people act new to the game at the beginning and in battle city they still have business men, their lives aren't yet controlled by this rapidly growing children's card game)
But anyway, so this game is so important and means literally life or death to so many people, what did they do before it? (Mostly wondering about what everyone was wagering their lives on before duel monsters)
WHAT WAS LIFE LIKE 3 YEARS BEFORE THE END OF YUGIOH DM!?

Does Ryuji Otogi / Duke Devlin ever get possessed?
I mean cause if not, he should be feeling a little left out in the main friend group. Yuugi's set with Yami, Ryou with Bakura, Anzu and Joey both get possessed by Malik, then Hiroto gets possessed by Thief King in season five (and I guess Kaiba's sorta possessed by an evil clown in episode one but that's just him, what he felt inside til Yami decided it had to go and killed that thing)

off topic and on topic to this post, did Kaiba have to battle people for locater cards in his tournament because I feel like he should of. It would of been hilarious
Anyway back on topic, Kaiba again. So in the tournament you had to give up your best card to the winner, if Kaiba beat Ishizu who took Obelisk off him for battle and he beat the god with his dragon, could someone argue that Obelisk is not the strongest in his deck but his blueeyes instead? because I could see Joey doing that if he ever beat Kaiba and in my opinion it would also be hilarious.

Sorry (well not really but IDK), but I just realised that Kaiba and Ryou would totally be able to bond over random clown dolls, it's shown since season one that Kaiba uses random clowns throughout his deck and its a common enough head-canon that Ryou collects haunted clowns and dolls (common enough i forgot for a moment that's just a random fact the fandom made up). But just imagine them going out and getting random clown dolls and then showing them off and discussing where they got them and even Kaiba dressing up to got to a flee market with Ryou (dressed up in a disguise cause he doesn't otherwise want to be seen there) looking for them and they can trade them and have loads of fun

Rush duelling is great and all and everyone who claim to hate it secretly love it... but why do these people always agree to rush duel in the show?
If they want to destroy this new form of duelling why has't any of them requested a duel that wasn't rush duelling? like they all say they hate it why are you always on the rush duellists terms even when they're the ones trying to get something from you? Like you have room to bargain to make them duel the way you supposedly prefer? why not take advantage of that?

I really want to see some of the parents in Sevens, like imagine your children coming home and going. I lost a card game, time to transfer schools! Like not one parent had an issue with this? Like if my child was transferring for such a stupid reason I'd be like fuck no! I don't care if you lost a childrens card game. You're not transferring schools for that. If your unhappy and wanna transfer go ahead, but not because of a cardgame.
