One of the petty things I am prone to doing is starting customer support chats on websites which I believe have completely nonsensical behaviour and asking a bunch of innocuous normal person questions that force the customer support person to explain to me that what I want is impossible. Now I do this nicely obviously. The point is not to make them suffer for my bad day it's that I imagine I'm contributing to some large aggregation of data points that eventually result in someone higher up going hm it does seem strange and unintuitive that on our real estate website which lists bedrooms and bathrooms and allows you to select a minimum and maximum number of bedrooms for a query you cannot do the same for bathrooms and are instead forced to only set a minimum and skip over hundreds of results you aren't interested in. That doesn't make any sense! And the thought of that person, even though they may not even exist or care, nonetheless calms me down enough to continue on with my life

I asked my coworkers the walrus/fairy question and first of all they, being engineers, all immediately insisted fairies aren't real and therefore a fairy would be more surprising, but also this has become an ongoing debate where in the middle of a seemingly unrelated conversation someone just shouts “oh but a walrus would make sense?”.

a topic I have infinite interest in is game systems that have unintended complexities as a result of player interaction. I could read a billion articles about video games that fuck up their fictional economies so bad they completely devalue their own currency. this one guy on YouTube made a five hour video about how the EVE online devs basically had to invent a system of law in the game to deal with players exploiting various in-game systems. like they had to invent land tax regulations in a video game. and I have no interest in playing fighting games but the insanely complicated meta of each fighting game makes me want to be a video games anthropologist

to be honest. and maybe this says something about me. i cannot imagine being so fiercely loyal to a TV show because the creators are giving you what you want. To me, that's just a recipe for huge immeasurable disappointment. I am fiercely loyal to voting destiel in any ship bracket ever because I could not possibly imagine a scenario in which they could give me less of what i want in a way that wouldn't be just as fucking hilarious as the last 100 times. and this is the key to happiness 👍
