Arriving at the estate, you glanced out of the window. Lights of the candles that peaked out of the manor windows illuminated with a soft halo. You felt yourself sighting up straighter, seeing how many were already inside based on the the line of carriages that surrounded the courtyard. Zoning out Lady Daphne’s voice, knowing she was only repeating the rules of etiquette you should need to follow. Turning to look at her, smiled at her, and nodded once. Which she only sighed, eyeing Kuroo with a silent tell to watch over you.
With the carriage coming to a halt, Kuroo easily maneuvered to open the door and stepped out quickly. As a gentleman that he became for the evening, Kuroo extended his hand out, assisting Lady Daphne gracefully out of the carriage. With her out, Kuroo repeated the same action to you, keeping his eyes away from your eye. Sucking you lips, an uneasy feeling swept through you as you felt squeezed with pain as Kuroo refusal to look at you.
Did he really care what you thought of him? No, he didn’t, you thought quickly. With the guilt leaving your bones, you accepted his helpful hand and stepped out of the carriage. Taking a few steps, you ignored Lady Daphne’s presence next to you, you ignored her voice ringing in your ears, you ignored Kuroo’s presence behind you, you ignored the feeling of wanting his comments, you ignored it all. Your eyes closed, you though back to the Lady Daphnes teachings. You felt everything went silent, body still as you prepared for a long evening. Taking a deep exhale out of your mouth, it was as something inside you switched. Opening your eyes, your head held high, shoulders rolled back, hands in front softly overlapping one another, you now became The Crown Princess (Y/n) of the Quixotic Kingdom.
Overlooking your should, your voice stern and modest, the twinkle in your eye gone and lips at a thin line, avoiding all amusement, “Shall we?” Not waiting for any confirmation, you walked. Not a single thought ran through your head. There was nothing needed to feel. Except for one feeling. A feeling that you grown to welcome and accept when your became this alto ego you created. Hatred.
You hated hiding your thoughts away, faking your emotions. All for what? To be the model women? You may be out in society but you were not yet out to society. Therefore were you the right choice to be the model women? Apparently yes, you are acting on behalf of the crown. Pleasing the nobles, protecting the people’s hearts and hopes to continue their loyalty and support of the crown. This shouldn’t be the way of security loyalty. Yet, this evening, you were acting as a lady out to society. Only here for scouting out a marriage with a man. A man that has been picked without your consent.
“Your highness,” Lady Daphne’s voice cut through your silence. Standing infant of a close door that led to the ballroom, you heard the loud chatter and music vibrating though the doors. “Whenever you are ready.” She motioned to the doors, waiting for you to continue.
You only stared.
And stared.
And stared at the grand doors.
Walk. You commanded your legs, yet they did not listen. Talk, you wished to your throat to speak, yet it did not act. Why was your body not listing to you? You have done this before so why now? Why acting all scared?Your fate is sealed, you answered yourself. You are to be wed to a man who you do not love all for the crown. Given you were only to meet him at the ball, but it was only the first step of the grand scheme of things. One thing can always led to another and this would led to a man who only will use you to climb the ladder.
Feeling a hold on your left hand jolted you, snapping your head at Kuroo who finally looked at you in the eye. It was he knew what you were thinking. “Your fate is not sealed yet,” Kuroo whispered, bringing your hand to his lips and kissed your knuckle. “You are only meeting him, Princess.”
Surprised by his actions, you merely nodded. With his sincerity in his voice, your worries slowly disappeared. Letting your hand free from his warmth, it hanged in the air for a few moments before returning back to its place. Yet. The word echoed, in your ear, giving you hope. He is right, you thought. Your fate is not sealed. This night will not your fate. Training your eyes back at the door, you raised your head up, ready to fight your planned future.
With the doors opening at your command, you stepped through the door, the footman announcing your title and name to everyone present. With everyone becoming silent, the footman voice echoed around the room. Heads all snapped and turned to you, gasping and whispering as they saw royal flesh in their presence. Mix reactions filling the room, some (the younger ones) who was their first time in presence of a member of the royal family fail to control their excitement. Giggling and whispering to whomever was near them as their eyes pried on your figure. Some were shocked, mouth open as they stare you floated by, opening a pathway through the sea. While the rest look amused, having already been in either your father’s presence or yours presence or both. With all having a different reaction, one was all the same; all bowed as waves when passed them.
The whispers all stopped when you stopped walking. Arriving at Duchess Dana Livington, with her son Duke Edward Livington next to her, they both bowed. One who looked at the floor, avoiding your gaze out of respect of your power while the other, eyes trained into yours, eyes gleaming early with an accomplish conquest. You avoided his eyes, focusing on Duchess Dana who rosed to her height, “You have a beautiful house, Duchess.”
“Thank you, Your Highness,” She responded heartfelt, “hearing your words of kindness bring me great joy. When I heard word, I personally made sure all would suit your beautiful taste. It’s a great honor having you here.”
Suck-up.
“Allow me to introduce you to my son,” She extended, pushing him between the two of you. “This is Duke Edward Livington. He’s quite handsome, is he not? And easy to rise to any occasion. When his father passed, he was quick to take up the mantle of the estate and helping his poor mama ease the pain.”
“My condolences,” You replied with sincerity laced sweetly on your voice, remembering how kind and gentleman the late Duke was when you were younger.
Yet, with your sorrow evident on your face, Duchess Dana did not mind, rather wanting to focus on her son that was in your presence. She cleared her throat, quickly moving on, “Thank you. If it wasn’t for my son, I would not know where I would be. He’s such a understanding man and patient. Sad he has yet to find a bride.” A secretive glance was went your way, a menacing behind her words that tighten your hands in a distaste feeling. “Seems he is looking for someone special. Someone that will help his lead in this great, rich Earth.”
A small hummed was responded from you as you glance the Duke up and down once, not hiding the small crinkle of your nose, before glancing around the ballroom, staring back at everyone who was leaning in to hear your conversation. “This is a ball, is it not?” You smiled kindly at Duchess Dana guest. “Let the drinks be poured, music to be loud, and our feet ache from dancing.”
“Cheers!”
A wide smile appeared on your face as the ball picked up its paced, pleased with the normality is was becoming for the evening. “Princess (Y/n).”
You spoke to soon.
“If it is not too forward of me, I would like to occupy you this evening?”
Your smile faltered before lifting back up. You knew why he was asking a bold question. He had planned it all along. He planted the seed in your father’s head, making appearance that he was a worthy man, despite the gossips that surrounds him. He really was his mother’s son, that you were certain. Always wanted connections, wanted to push more and more, surrounding themselves with gossip as a in to many social circles as they can to climb. Nothing was enough, even with everything they had at their disposal. Greed. Greed is an awful color on those who are blessed with so much.
“Duke Livington,” Your voice lacing with formality, “your kindness is most welcome. I must stay with my escort, Sir Kuroo-”
“It seems he is quite occupied at the moment,” Edward beaconed his chin behind you, a cheeky grin on lips.
Turning your head, you eyebrows were instantly raised as you saw most of the girls surrounding to tall man. The said tall man chest was puffed proudly, accepting all the warm compliments and giggling that captured his ears. Those close to him all lightly grazed his arms as he flexed, some fanned their face, trying to draw his attention. You resisted the strong urged to rolling your eyes to the back of your head.
Your hands tightened together, as your face morphed into a neutral look. Feeling your throat tighten, you clicked your tongue, as Edwards motion tried to motion you away, “there is a great view of the gardens in the balcony, I’m sure you would love Your Highness.”
“As I said before,” Your jaw clenched, watching a one lady dropped her fan and Kuroo quickly picking it up from the ground and sending her a flirty smile as he handed it back to her. Your voice slight raised to which Kuroo would hear, breaking the spell of the sirens surrounding him, “I must stay with my escort at all times.”
Kuroo eyes snapped towards you, giving you a pleading look to continue the attention he was receiving as you in return gave him an unpleasant frown. You commanded him with your eyes, tilting it towards your side for him approach you. Yet he avoided your gaze, quickly shifting his eyes to the women squeezing his arms. Flexing your hand into a fist, using it to hold your annoyance, you then stating, “Kuroo, I am feeling quite parched. Escort me to get a drink.” A triumph smile painted your face as he begrudgingly excused himself. With your head held high, you smiled as Kuroo stood in front of you, extending his arms out as a way to beacon you to follow him. “Such a gentlemen,” You gleamed, walking in the direction away from the flock of girls and Edward.
“Must you always ruin my fun,” He gritted his tech, annoyance vibrating washing off of him in waves. “I was about to ask a lady to dance.”
“Your duty is to protect me from Edward,” You gritted back.
“No,” he corrected, stopping from walking any further when a tray with server arrived with a tray of drinks, grabbing one for you and for himself. Holding your drink away from you as you eyed the drink he offered to you, “My duty if to protect you from harm. Now here, don’t want the Princess to be parched.”
“That’s wine.”
“Yes.”
“Wine.”
“I know what wine is.”
Rolling your eyes at him, you did your best not to make a unprincessly face. With a calm matter, you stated to him carefully, “A women must not drink wine when she is unmarried. Have you to been paying attention to Lady Daphne's lectures?
“You do see me fall asleep in those, yes?” Placing one glass on a floating try, Kuroo rose his glass to his lips.
“And one must no drink in front of royalty when they do not have a drink,” You smirked, seeing his eyes over the rim of the glass burned through yours. “Especially when one had voice they are parched.”
Lowering his glass, he scanned the ballroom, looking for a table of refreshments or a tray that carried lemonade. “Fine, I’ll get your damn drink.”
Seeing his annoyance, you smiled at him, wanting to infuriated more as it brought you joy, “And one should not curse in the presence of royalty.”
“I highly doubt a brat such as yourself should be consider royalty.” Kuroo said with triumph, beating you at the game you were creating.
“Charming.”
The two of you were about to take a step once Kuroo eyes found the refreshment table, when you heard two voices you yearned to hear ever since you stepped foot in the ball room, “My lady!” Yachi and Kiyoko exclaimed behind you, curtsy as they must do in the public eyes.
“Oh,” You smiled, extended your hand for them to grab hold as you excitedly gleamed in their presence. “I was wondering where you both were. I was scared I would not see you this evening.”
“Whatever do you mean?” Yachi confusingly asked. “There is no one here that we would spend our evening with other than you.”
“Especially with the gentlemen here,” Kiyoko added, her eyes scanning the room, “I am worry about this coming season. There are no eligible bachelors that seems fitting.”
“Maybe he is hiding,” You giggled, moving to where you laced your arms through theirs as you all aimlessly walked around the ballroom. “Or building the courage to greet you.”
“If you wishes to greet me then he should already have the courage,” She stated matter of fact, her head high as she vibrating with confidence.
Giggling with you, Yachi teased back, enjoying the playful easy nature that came with the three of you, “Perhaps he would ask you to marry him straight away.”
“He would be a simpleton.”
“But a simpleton that would love you,” You added, giggling at how she turned her head away with a blush that grazed her cheeks. The three of you all giggle and teased. Watching the dancers on the floor and gossiping about whoever the current gossip was. It was always the same routine when it came to balls and parties. You would walk with your ladies, looking at all the different nobles, hear about what gossip is tied to what family, who would end up with whom, who will get married, who is with child, who isn’t with child, if they had a child. The list goes on and on. There is always something to talk about.
And in the middle of it, there will always come a gentlemen who would ask lady Kiyoko a dance. Which she turns for you for your approval to be dismissed and forcefully agree to the gentleman’s dance. You’ve always hated it. You can see the distain on her face whenever a gentleman not to her liking ask for a dance and she must agree to it, being out to society, a way to find a husband some would say. And if she were to reject invitation, it would seem rude and unladylike. A terrible tradition. A terrible way of thinking.
So you and Yachi would stare as she floated to the dance floor with whatever bachelor he wrote his name on her name card before dancing to the tune that whispered through the ears of those in the dance floor. Their feet perfectly match to the steps of the tune and whispers of small talk. Soon later the same would happen to Yachi, who just recently been introduced to society last season. Someone she was not all to excited about. Being nervous and getting sick of the thought of being displayed for all to see her was a to sick of a thought for her.
Then you were left alone. Not having been “introduced” to society yet, something your father had made sure of, you were not allow to dance with any man. (Something you were happy about.)So there you stood, on the edged of everything as you watched people twirl around and listen to the gossips around you. With a small sigh, you turned to see Kuroo behind you but only found other guest of the evening. A deep frown echoed your face once more, you stared back at to the dance floor, seeing Kuroo twirling the same women who flaunted over his arms earlier. An envy though filling your head as you though, now he’s a great dancer?
“Your highness,” A voice broke out of your thoughts. A voice you did not want to hear. “I noticed you are not occupied, please allow me to fill your company.”
“Such a gentleman you are, Duke Edward,” You did your best to hide your displeasure. The personally you created slowly appeared in your voice. “But I am quite comfortable.”
“Please,” He smiled, offering you a glass of lemonade, “I’ve noticed you did not receive the drink you requested. I took the liberty of fetching it for you.”
“How kind,” You accepted the drink, slowly took a sip. Taking a step, you spoke to him, “Now if you excuse me, it is feeling a bit stuffy.
“Allow me to escort you!” He was too loud for your liking.
Hurrying your steps, you eyes did their best to find Lady Daphne, yet she was no where in sight. “There is no need”
“It is a gentleman thing to do,” He was now next to you, matching your pace and acting as your equal.
“I wish to be alone.” You stated hands gripping the stone rail. Stone rail? When did you get outside? Realizing you were now outside, you gripped the rail, trying to zone his annoying voice out and feel the cool air to calm you. Listen to the trees, you thought but his voice cute though like a knife.
“If this is not too forwards of me,” He stated, ignored the side eye look of disdained on your face (he didn’t notice it), “but it had come to my attention that you are going to be introduced this coming season.”
“Oh my,” you gasped, looking behind his figure. A terrifying look painted your face as you pointed, “A beast!”
“A beast,” Edward wailed, turning to have a look at the said beast, only for there to be nothing there. “What beast?” He asked, turning back to face you, and you were gone. Running down the stairs and running away from the estate. “Oh, how I love a chase. Princess! Wait!”
Cursing, you picked up your pace, doing everything you can to get away from him. But with the dress you were wearing and the shoes, luck was not on your side. He was quick to approached you, stopping you from moving any more as he hold onto both of your shoulder, “Your highness, if you wish to be alone with me, you could have said so.”
Flabbergasted by his statement, you pushed his arms away from you, taking a step back, “You are crossing a line. I commend you to leave me be.”
“Oh Princess,” He stalked towards you, bring you to him as you tried to push him off, “This is your way of seducing me isn’t it? To see how much I want your hand?”
“Let go,” you commanded, you forcefully tried to push him off. But it was no avail, he did his best to bring his lips to yours, muttered words that went death in your ears. The only think you can hear was your heart in you ears. And when the moment arrived where you were out of his arms, you reeled your left arm back, months of training overtook you as your swing it and aimed for his eye. All was heard was a thump, as his body laid on the cold, hard earth, and everything was silenced.
“What did you do?”
The deep voice behind you startled you. Turning around, your eyes widened at whom you saw. Quickly pushing the words out of your mouth, you tried to ignore the harsh sting on your knuckles, “How long were you there?”
“Long enough!” Kuroo rushed towards you, quickly glanced at the body that now laid on the earth. “How’s your hand.”
Trying to ease the harsh stinging pain, you whimpered at when rubbing your knuckles, “For someone whose face looks soft, I wasn’t expecting it to be painful.”
“Why did you use your left hand?” He was quick to notice you what hand you used. Running his hands through his hair, an annoyance sigh escaped his lips as he thought what to do next and what to do with your stupidity.
With a huff, you looked at him with a dumbfounded expression, saying the obvious, “You taught me to use my left hand.”
Kuroo could not believe what you were saying to him. He knew he taught you better, he knew you were start enough to punch correctly, yet sadly that was not enough. Emphasizing with his hands, Kuroo yelled back, astonished and angry, “I taught you how to punch! I didn’t tell you that you have to use your left hand!”
“You used your left hand when teaching me!” You hissed at him, bring your bruised hand closer to your chest. Your nostril flared angry at him, pointing out his flaw in his argument.
“Because it’s my dominant hand!”
Stomping your feet, you whined. The stress of the events slowly taking a toll on your body. You felt like a child that was just told they couldn’t have something. You’re tired of people fighting you on something and now, now you would like someone to agree with you. So you just yelled, “Then why didn’t you tell me that!”
He did, you refused to acknowledge he was correct.
“I did! You never listen!” Kuroo yelled back at you, angry and frustrated at you. Rubbing the bridge of his nose, Kuroo thought of what to do next. What he should do next, until he remembered your delicate hand, “Let me see it.” Gently grab hold onto your left hand, examining it as he noticed a harsh color sting was appearing on your knuckled. “At least you listen to not put your thumb in your fist.”
“Proving my point, I do listen.”
Ghost of a smile appeared of his lips at your comment. Gently brushing his thumbs on your knuckled, Kuroo tried to ease the pain. Bring your hand up to your lips, he placed a long tender kiss on the knuckle of your ring finger. “What were you doing out here?”
Feeling exhausted, you let out a sigh, relaxing your hand in his hold. Your eyes peaked at Edward’s body that lied limped on the ground, noticed his cheating moving as he breathed,“I wanted to get some air, Edward was persistent and would not leave me alone so, I tried my best to stay away from him. I came here.”
“And punched him?” Amusement ranged in his voice, slowly letting go of your hand. The atmosphere suddenly became light and easy, regardless of the knocked out male on the ground. Kuroo felt a sense of pride in singing from his chest, knowing that you were not entirely hopeless.
“He thought I was trying to seduce him!” Huffing at the thought, as if someone like you would ever want someone like him. Then a thought appeared in your head. Eyes widen in horror, looking at Kuroo in panic, your body felt cold at the thought of the rumors. “Did anyone else saw? Kuroo if anyone saw me and him without an escort.”
Kuroo moved to cup your face, brushing his thumbs over your cheeks. His eyes softened at your panic being, while his chest felt heavy. Your eyes frantic at what could be spread, what will be said, and the damage it could cause the crown. He didn’t notice how easily your relaxed on his hold, neither did you, but Kuroo did know, he wanted to cherish his hold on you,  “Calm down. No one else saw.”
“Are you certain?” You grabbed hold of his arms, horror still struck in your body. “If word got out that I was left unattended my chaste would be questioned! It cannot be question, as princess I’m supposed to be the example. My honor cannot be questioned Kuroo!”
“No one saw,” Kuroo promised, calming shushing you, “I promise it was just me. Now let’s find a plan to deal with him.”
“Yes,” you breathed out, missing the warmth when he removes his hand from your face. A paused followed as he thought of a lie, thought of something that could cover up the mess you created, “We can say he was attacked?”
“By whom? They are going to search around and everyone will panic.”
Biting down your lower lips with a hum, you thoughtfully pitched, “Then he drank too much and passed out?”
“And we happen to stumble upon.” Kuroo added to your sentences, a smirk dancing on his lips.
“Because it was getting to loud that I wanted some air,” Beaming with a smile, you shrugged your shoulders up happily, bobbing your head as you felt giggly at your devious plan. “You escorted me to the terrace.”
Adding more to the wicked lie, Kuroo enjoyed watching you gleaming with pride with your plan,“Where we saw Edward stumbling here.”
“And being the kind, caring princess-”
“I wouldn’t go that far.”
“-That I am.” You frowned at him, your lips plucked with annoyance, crossing your arms over your chest. Rolling your eyes at him, upset he ruined the only good mood you had of that evening,  "We went to see if he was fine, yet the sight we saw he was passed out.”
“That’s good!”
“But how are we going to stop him from talking when he wakes,” you mumbled.
Nodding his head in agreement, he rubbed his chin. Looking back at the estate, seeing it glowing the the glittering lights that beamed from the party, “We do something that doesn’t discredited our story then.”
“I could scream and when they arrive they will see the body and the empty glass,” After a brief silence you spoke with uncertainty.  “We could inform them of what happened with our lies.”
“That could work,” Kuroo looked back at you, “Scream.”
With a deep breath, you prepared yourself for a loud scream. Feeling confident in yourself, you breathed out, “Ah?”
Kuroo blinked once at you. Then twice. Staring at you with an emotionless look at you, while you started back at him with a cringe scrunch, “That was pathetic.”
“Well, I’m trying my best!” You huffed, feeling your cheeks warmed at the embarrassment.
“If that’s your best then I’m concern,”  Kuroo sighed, rubbing his shoulder of the stress of the events.
“Well, I don’t see you trying to help.”
“I am not going to scream,” He started the obvious, looking at you in an offended manner as he smoothed his coat. “It’s undignified.”
“Oh please, undignified?” You rolled your eyes at him, slowly starting to feel the annoyance creep up to you once more
“Of course,” he scoffed. “Especially like a man like myself. I will not scream.”
“I’m not asking you to scream, I’m asking for help!” You counted back at him, your voice slowly raising up. “Why can’t you ever help!”
Kuroo yelled back, hissing as he did so, “Why can’t you scream like you are now!”
“You are insufferable!” Hissing through your teeth. Clenching your fist to your side, you mustered a deathly glare at him, your annoyance turning to anger.
“Like you are any better! You can’t even scream properly!”
“Taking about doing things properly, how about you?” You smirked, crossing your arms over your chest.
Creasing his eyebrows, Kuroo scoffed at you with a scrunch confusion,  “What about me?”
“There’s a rumor that the other knights you train with let you win.”
“What?”
“So are you really trained properly with a sword Kuroo?” You taunt, picked your lips into a smug smile. Letting your petty anger fully show through.
He let out a chuckle. Then another, and then more soon followed. Looking at you with wide eyes is astonished at your words. He then fell silent, clenching his jaw in anger, “Well at least I know how to use a sword! Tell me princess, do you? That’s right you don’t! And you will never know how just like you will never rule!”
Gasping at his word, you stepped closer to him as you jabbed a finger to his chest, “How dare you!”
“How dare I?” He countered back, looking down at you in astonishment at your reaction. “How dare you?”
Mouth open, eyes widen as he questioned your back, you thought back to the day you arrived. Your hand fell back at your side, look of desperate was written on your face as your shoulders fell in defeat, “So I was correct to think this way? That you believe a women should never rule.”
“I never said that,” Kuroo said to quickly, a statement that he made sure he said with clarity.
“But you were thinking of it.”
“Do not think that lowly of me,” He hissed at you, eyes narrowed at you at your accusation. He never wanted you to think that. Not him. Not that low. And for some odd reason to him, it churned his stomach that you would think of him that lowly.
“I’m not wrong!” You stated. Thinking back all the times your voiced your options to him. Crying out to him, you argued back at him, “The moment we met, you never agreed with my political ideas! You always criticize me and dismiss my ideas of reform and improvements.”
Merely rolling his eyes at you, Kuroo crossed his arms over his chest. With a pointed look, you stated calmly, for an odd reason wanted to calm your destress. “Just because I disagree with your ideas don’t mean I don’t think you are fit to rule.”
“Then why criticize? Why not help me with these ideals? Find a way that it could work?”
“You never ask!”
“I didn’t think I need to since you speak so openly about everything!”
Sharp breath in, Kuroo brushed his hands through his hair, rethinking why he decided to fallow you out, “You are impossible! I can’t read your mind!”
“I’m not asking you too,” You snarled, scrunching you face. “I’m asking for help!”
“Then say it next time,” You missed how desperate Kuroo sounded, only focusing on the anger and annoyance in his voice.
“Whenever I talk to you about it you could always mention it! I don’t have to ask.”
Looking at you with astonishment, jaw dropped down, eyebrows scrunched tightly together, all Kuroo could do was stare at you. The argument going back to the beginning, Kuroo rubbed the bridge of his nose. He gave up on you. Giving up at winning this argument knowing arguing would be a waste of time, but with that knowledge, it didn’t hide his annoyance of you and how much he wanted to strangle you for your stupidity of the argument. Moving his hands down his face and bringing his hand back at his side, he stated plainly and convincing, “You know, I wasn’t planning on kill you. But now? I think I might.”
“You’re insufferable!” You scoffed at him. Your eyes narrowed with a glare as he stated the treasonous statement. Looking back down at the body, you pointed your hand at it, “We are supposed to deal with Edward!”
“We are.” Smiling as he said it, he nodded his head, a sarcastic smile was drawn on his face before he quickly erased it to a frown. “So scream.”
“I am screaming!” You yelled very loud. Fist clenched down at your side as you stomped your foot. With a glaring match started between the two of you, you ignored the stinging in your eye as you tried to win the unspoken competition. It didn’t last long since Kuroo was the one who quickly looked away, turning on his heal and stomping a few steps away. Hands on his hips and muttered curses underneath his breath. Thinking back to the events that lead to this moment, you cursed yourself. Did you really made Edward believe you shared an attraction to him? No. You were being nice. You spoke to him with a kind manner that you spoke to everyone else; a polite laugh when he attempted to make a joke, not wanting to bruise his feelings. Wrapping your arms around yourself, you started at the body, felt it was your fault the whole event started. You didn’t want this, you didn’t what him, you told him so. So what did you do that lead him on?
Unknowing to you, Kuroo turned to look at him. Bitting the inside of his cheek, he saw the guilt plaster on your face. He knew what you were thinking, of course he did, after spending so much time with you, he could read your thoughts. Wanting to quickly get the situation settled, Kuroo looked around, trying to find a solution. Until he saw a slithering opportunity, “Close you eyes.”
“What?”
“Close your eyes,” Kuroo repeated, not meeting your eyes. Eyeing the opportunity, Kuroo refuse to let it disappear from his sight.
Pursing your lips, you slowly took steps closer to your protector, “Kuroo what are you?-”
“Don’t scream.” Kuroo added, reaching his arm out to indicate you to stop walking any further.
“You’ve been telling me to scream and now you don’t want me to?” Rolling your eyes, you grew tired. The party, Edwards, the argument and now this? You felt everything whelming you as you want nothing more to go back to your bed and sleep the night away.
“Would you please,” Kuroo hissed, side eying you with annoyance and tiredness laced in his voice, “for the love almighty, listen.”
“Fine,” You closed your eyes, “but I swear if you do anything.”
“I won’t.”
With your eyes closed you could only focus on the sounds around you. Hearing Kuroo rustle with the grass on the cold hard Earth, the wind that whistled through the grass, you shivered as you now felt the cool evening wind on your skin. Feeling a presence front of you, you suddenly felt nervous and tense, not liking you cannot see what Kuroo is doing. But the feeling of nervousness disappeared when you felt something smooth touched your shoulders and the back of your neck. Tensing your body, you stuttered out, trying to not let your voice crack as you felt the something moved,“Kuroo what did you put on me?”
“Don’t open your eyes yet,” He said to quickly for your liking, feeling his breath on your head.
“Kuroo!” You yelped, doing as you were told and feeling the something slimly now on your arms. The something, winced and tensed as you felt Kuroo’s hands were not long on the something and is now on you, you also felt it tensed and squirmed on your shouldered. Instantly wanted to shriver up and cringe at the feeling.
“Okay.” He said with cautiousness, hearing him taking a few steps back, “You can open them now.”
Slowly opening your eyes, you first saw Kuroo’s nervous state, bitting his lip as he carefully watched you. Feeling he something moved towards the side of your neck, you moved your head to look down at your shoulder, instantly feeling the air in your lungs disappeared and you whimpered in a whispered, “K-Kuroo its a snake…”
Nodding his head in a quick manner, Kuroo answered you, knowing all you need know was a confirmation, “You can scream now.”
Feeling the snake’s tongue as it hissed on the side of your neck, you instantly screamed. Screamed that you felt tears coming from our eyes at the disgust, dirty feeling that came with the snake on you. You wanted nothing more than to vomit, to shake the feeling off, to get it off of you, but you refused to touch that thing with your hands. “Perfect,” Kuroo smiled, turning to look back at the estate and seeing people slowly coming out and see where and why the scream was.
“I think I'm going to throw up,” You whimpered, feeling the tears down on your cheeks as your body shivered in disgust, only feeling the snake creeping your neck and hissing at it. Waving your hands as you tried to shake it off, you felt the need to gag, to vomit, to shrivel up and take a bath to forget the memory of the slimy, smooth touch.
Quickly rushing to you, Kuroo grab hold of the heinous snake away from you and throwing it far from you. Patting the side of your hair, he whispered sweet accomplishments to you as you cringed and shivered at the lasting feeling. Calling you by your title, that slowly now became a pet name of endearment that unconsciousness become, “You did amazing princess. ”
“I hate you.” You hissed, shivered in his hold as you opening cried. Punching his chest weakly as you were now being held by him. “No, I loathe your entire existence.”
“I know,” He cooed at you, bring you into a hug as he can now hear people and guards rushing to the two of you are. “But I need to keep crying and cling to me princess while I do that talking, okay? Just remembered that slimy, smooth, gross, wet, feeling.” Holding in your gag, you felt your body shivered from your toes to your head, the hair on the back on your neck rising as you cringed, muttering words of hatred in Kuroo’s chest. He contained to muttered descriptive words of the snake, making sure you felt disgusted as the guest arrived to where you were.
“What on heavens is going on!”
“My, is that Edward? What has happened to him?”
“Someone, check if he’s breathing!”
“Princess,” Your eyes perked as you heard your ladies voice. Moving your head out of Kuroo’s chest, sniffling as you saw them rushing towards you. With a sigh of relief, the girls instantly pull you out of Kuroo’s arms and into theirs, scanning your form for any harm. “What happened my lady?” Kiyoko voice filled with worry as Yachi nodded along, eyeing Kuroo and Edward discreetly.
“Yes,” Lady Daphne appeared, with your knights behind her, sneering at the man that was the ground. Anger filled with her voice as she saw  “what has happened here?”
“There was a snake,” Kuroo quickly responded, eying in the corner of his eye how you instantly shivered at the word. “That was onto Edwards body. The Princess and I only happened to cross him when the Princess declared she was feeling unwell and we noticed Edward figure walking towards here. I told her highness to stay but she cared for his well-being so much she declared to come with me. I believe he drank more than he could handled, wondered off, and collapsed. ”
The members of the ton all whispered among themselves, hearing what your personal bodyguard had announced. You were to busy gagged to look around the ton but Kuroo noticed the looks. The side eye glances full of judgment towards the sleeping body, the look of awe towards the princess of how “caring” you were, and surprised and disgusted of how a becoming Dutch would act in the presence of her royal highness. Most importantly, eyeing you and Kuroo, who were in a tight embrace. But that was something that could be explained. But the one thing Kuroo notice was Suna was not present. Twisting something inside of him, that the man in charge of protecting the Princess was not here.
Lady Daphne scanned your figured, seeing you trembling in your ladies hold and hearing all the murmurs around her, she needed to acted quickly. In the corner of her eye she saw Duchess Dana approaching her in a hurried nervous manner. Lady Daphne hid a distaste look, not wanting to her her excuses she had for her son. “Someone must have drugged him,” Duchess Dana voice wavered, trying to grab hold of Lady Daphne arm in what she tried to be in a reassuring manner. Duchess Dana face fell with desperation with Lady Daphne’s cold stare when she finally looked at her, she quickly acted by moving to you, trying to ease the situation her son causes, “Your highness, it is so heartwarming you care so much about my son, but I assure you he’s not a drunk. Someone must have drugged him.” Just as she was going to repeat her act, reaching a pseudo calming hand. Kuroo was quickly to step forward, blocking her from seeing and touching you.
Ignoring Duchess Dana whimpering excuses, she shrunk at Kuroo’s hard glare and how the ton all gasped in entertainment. Many of the ton who all enjoyed gossip, especially ones that ruins one’s place in society, enjoyed everything that was on displayed. Hushed whispered to their daughters, to their friends, to their spouses. Lady Daphne heard them all. The more she heard, the more she tensed, the more she hated it, the more she need to act quickly.
“Kuroo, please escort Her Highness back to Chilgrave,” Lady Daphne commanded. Her voice was steady, and calmed, her body unraveled with each command that left her lips. Her head held high, refusing to back down to the rumors of the ton, Lady Daphne confidences caused all talks to seized and they all watched with curious eyes. “Now.”
A curt nod, Kuroo turned to look back at you, making sure Duchess Dana does not sweep through. As you slowly released lady’s hold. Breathing out deeply, you smiled any your ladies as a thanks. Holding your head high, you gracefully walked through the parted crowd. Feeling the stares and whispers, you fought the urge of allowing the embarrassment to ruin through you. Being the crown princess, you had to refrain of showing any emotion. Always being composed, neutral, elegant, you found it to be second nature to hide your emotions.  Yet there were moments you found difficult to. With the events of the night, the whispers that flew into your ears and the stares that dagger you as you walked, all you wanted was the earth on your feet to swallow you and hide you away.
Breathe, you thought. Breath. The family’s image wasn’t ruined. The royal family is still the example of the people should be. Kuroo twisted the events in your favor. Breathe, you thought. Breathe.
“Watch your step, Princess.”
With your slight perk, your snapped your neck around to your surroundings, seeing you were already at the carriage. With a nod of your head as a quite thanks, Kuroo assisted you inside, his hand whispered against your own as you climbed inside the carriage. Kuroo quickly followed suit, the carriage men shut the door once you both were settled. A dense silences fell between you, staring at each other with one (Kuroo) in amusement and other (You) in embarrassment. “I hate you.”
Kuroo boomed with laughter, his body shaking as he hid his face in his hands. “None of this would have happened if you listened to me!” You kicked his leg playfully, a giggle escaped your lips as your did your best to conceal it with your hand. Looking though at the small window of the carriage, you watched as the trees passed by. You’re finger hovered over your lips, as your head shook. You replayed every moment in your head, wanting nothing more than have your head swallow in and the Earth to accept you in.
The whole event of the evening was terrible. The evening starting with girls flocking to Kuroo when he was supposed to stay by your side, Edward pestering you and following you where ever you went, your ladies easily distracted by their dance partners who wished them away. Then punching Edward when it escalated, which lead to a snake on you. You shivered thinking about the snake once more.
It was all so tiring. This evening was tiring. A yawn flew out your mouth, leading against your head against the smooth wall of the carriage. Your body aching to climb into your warm sheets and sleep the night away. Yet, with the fatigue filling your body, you were filled with joy. Kuroo was speaking to you again, laughing with you, and arguing with you, and that brought a smile to your face.
“Rest,” Kuroo left his legs up to the empty space next to you. His eyes closed as leaned his head back against the cushions back. His body relaxing, “We should be there soon.” But his words only rang in the quietness of the carriage. Peaking his eye open, he stared at your sleeping form, beautifully asleep with a grin graced your peaceful face. He smiled at your form, watching as you fluttered to your dreams. “Idiot,” he whispered to himself, moving to sit next to you seeing the way your head bounced on the wall whenever there was a bump on the road. Gently guiding your head to his shoulder, Kuroo smiled at how your unknowing snuggled your head closer to him.
The ride back to the castle came quickly to what Kuroo would though it would be. With his mind lost to the memories of the amount of months he’s been with you, he found it hard to remember why he was put here in the first place. With the coachman opening the door, Kuroo instantly raised a finger to his lips, insisting for him to stay silent. Seeing you, the sleepy Princess, fast asleep, the coachman nodded, stepping aside as Kuroo carefully lifted you in his arms and walking out into the cool country air.
Kuroo succeeded in not to disturb your slumber, carefully maneuvered through the castle to get to your room. Given, he had to glare at the maids who were whispering and giggly loud as they saw you asleep in Kuroo’s arms, and tripped while going up the stairs, he thought he did a great job. Arriving to your room, a maid quickly guided him to her bed, who bit her lip from forming a teasing smile. Gently placing you on your bed, Kuroo halted the maid from waking you up to dress you into your nightwear, “It’s best to let her sleep, she had an eventful evening.”
Leaving you asleep on your bed, Kuroo gently tucked you underneath the sheets, giving one more glance he whispered, “What are you doing to me?”
Silently walking back to his room, Kuroo eyes felt heavy. Rubbing them softy and slowly moving his hands in his hair, his feet dragged with each step. Tonight was a wonderful evening, Kuroo thought, not including Edward chasing after you. With different ladies swarming him, his chest boost with confidence and ego. He felt proud. He felt dirty?
Kuroo always welcome the attentions, especially on nights when he wanted companionship, he never had this feeling. But when he saw your eyes, something meaningful hiding behind your glimmering (e/c) eyes, he wanted nothing more to stop dancing. He hated you.
He loathed you. You always ruined everything. Ruining his fun. Ruining his chance to get Information about the nobility, and perhaps someone for the evening. If only you stayed inside, none of this would have happen. And worse, his tiredness is all gone and now his veins were filled with annoyance.
Forcefully opening his chamber's door, Kuroo instantly stripped when the door clothes behind him. Kicking his shoes off, taking his coat and shirt off, muttering his annoyance in hopes of revealing it. Until his eyes caught a parchment letter rolled on his bed. He would pay no mind to it, probably a maid confessing her attraction, something he has been receiving more of lately. But this letter of parchment was different. It hold a significant meaning to rebel. Yes, he remembered, a rebel. That is who he is. And now he felt even more disgusted with himself as he picked up the letter and broke the wax seal that hold a raven.

Are we there yet?”
“We should be there soon,” You replied with a soft sigh. Pausing your reading, you place your back down on your lap. Pulling the soft curtains to the side, you looked out of the carriage window. Seeing the beautiful landscape of the open field of green. Leaning your head against the wall, you thought of what this “vacation” would entail. Having to go to a Duches's party, fun as it sounds, would be draining knowing your father only sent you to find a candidate that would be the next king.
“When I was told we were going on a vacation,” Kuroo hummed, bringing his foot down from the cushion of your seats to the floor, “I was hoping I wouldn’t come along.”
“We are going to the country,” You sat back, raising your eyebrow at him, “for a vacation. Why did you think you weren’t coming along?”
“I was hoping to be away from you.”
“We can’t always get the things we want.”
“Funny,” Kuroo's face holds seriousness to it. “Coming from a princess who gets anything and everything she wants.”
Pursing your lips together, you quietly muttered, “I don’t always.”
Decided to spend the rest of the time dozing off, you tried to distract your mind from actives you and your ladies could do. Having missed them due to them leaving early to arrive at Chilgrave Castle. You were even excited to see Lady Daphne, surprised to have missed her lessons. Yet knowing her, she’ll sneak in a lesson or two, saying it would help to keep your skills sharp. It brought a smile at the thought, helping me feel at peace knowing there will be people from home.
“I know I am a very much good-looking, princess,” Kuroo snapped you out of your trance, making you realize that you were zoning out with your eyes open. Eyes open and looking at him with a content smile. “And you were bound to fall in love with me, so please notify me when you do.”
With the smile dropped, you rolled your eyes at your bodyguard, “I loathe you.”
“Oh don’t lie to me princess,” Kuroo teased, leaning a bit forward toward you. A smirk he always wore that annoyed you to no end, “I know your true feelings about me.”
“Oh, I’m sure you do,” You replied back to him, matching his teasing tone. Leaning a bit forward to him, you noticed how his smirk grew and it brought you satisfaction for what you said next and dropped it to a frown. Jagging a finger at him, you finished, “Especially with how annoyed, childish, persistent, and let’s not forget full headed of yourself.”
The satisfaction of seeing his smirk drop felt good, the feeling was then later squished down as he smirked and appeared again, “Don’t forget deviously handsome. If I remember correctly, you wrote sculpted by-”
The carriage suddenly shooked, making you and Kuroo move around the carriage. You went further back in your seat while Kuroo, trying to stop lunging, ended up closer to you. His hand slammed on the wall behind you, caging you in. With his face directly over yours, you hand your hand on his chest, helping him from not crashing into you. “What happened?” You asked, looking at him with wide eyes.
“How the hell am I supposed to know?” Kuroo muttered, looking down at you. “Are you alright?”
“Princess,” You heard Suna’s voice yell from the outside. Hearing him quickly rushing to the door, he burst it open, “Princess, are alright?…”
“I’m fine,” You smiled, pushing Kuroo’s chest lightly, to which he got the hint and moved back to sit on his seat. You did not notice the harsh look Suna gave to Kuroo. A look of panic and anger was painted on his face as he saw how close he was to you. “But is everything alright? What happened?”
“One of the wheels broke,” Suna stated, holding a hand out to you to assist you out of the carriage. You then took note that one corner of the carriage was favoring one side. With you out of the carriage, you see the damage to the wheel.
Ignoring Kuroo, Suna paid most of his attention to you, leaving him to struggle out of the carriage. Ignoring his sarcastic, “Thank you for the help!”
“We are just an hour or two away from Chilgrave Castle,” Suna sighed, “but it will take a while to repair the damages. I say it’s best you and I will take a horse-“
“Ahem.”
Pausing in his sentence, Suna did his best not to roll his eyes, “You, Kuroo, and I, will take a horse and finish the journey. That way you will arrive there safely. I know how long these journeys could be and you must be exhausted.”
“Thank you, Suna,” You smiled, “but I think it’s best if you stay with your men and oversee the repairs. Your father was a Cartwright, he must have taught you when you were a child?”
“Well, yes,” Suna hummed, “but your safety is my first priority.”
“Actually,” Kuroo cut in, joining the conversation. “That is my priority. And as much as it pains me to say this, I agree with her. Unless you wish to spare me from her gloating later, is there another who could assist in fixing the wheel?”
Out of the few men Suna brought and the driver, none knew how to fix it. Knowing this, Suna merely sighed, not wanting to push on the subject, “Very well, you can take my horse to continue the journey. But it seems you both will need to share a horse.”
“That is fine,” You smiled, placing a hand on Suna’s arm, and you comfort him. “I will be alright. Focus on fixing the wheel soon as possible and head to the castle. A warm meal and bath will be waiting for you all.”
“Thank you, Princess,” he nodded, moving away to bring forth his horse. Handing the reins to you, you grab hold with one hand while the other patted the beaut. “Wilbur will make sure you will arrive there fast and steady. Best horse of the Kingdom.”
“I thought Atsumu had to have the best horse?” You teased, feeling Wilbur's soft black hair on your fingers.
“Atsumu is an idiot.”
“That we agree on,” You laughed. With Kuroo moving to the mount of the horse, you soon followed, sitting behind him.
With the reigns now in Kuroo’s hand, Kuroo gave a stern nod to Suna, and a silent promise fell between them. As quick as the promise was formed, Kuroo mounted the reins and softly kicked Wilbur, commanding him to start running and heading forward. Leaving Suna and his men behind, your arms were tightly wrapped around Kuroo’s waist, and your face nuzzled his back, enjoying the rise you felt the wind passing by.
Tumblr media
“I must say,” Peaking your head over Kuroo’s shoulder, you laid your chin on him, enjoying the leisure trot, “this is really relaxing. Seems this might be an actual vacation.”
“Was it not going to be?”
“Do you not know?”
“Know what?” Kuroo eyed you in the corner of his eye, moving his body to the side to have a better look at you.
Hearing a deep sigh escaping you, Kuroo felt the hold on his shirt tighten. Looking down he saw your hands clenched into a fist with his shirt in them. “My father,” You hesitated, before correcting yourself, something Kuroo took note of. “The King, sent me out to the country to attend Duchess Dana's party and to meet her son, Edward.”
“And that is bad?”
“Edward is a candidate, so to speak,” You spoke heavily and dryly. “Whomever I marry needs to be perfect to be the next ruler after my father.”
“Wait,” Kuroo halted the horse, and patted the side of Wilbur's head when he whined at the ting of the reigns. “You are not to rule? Whomever you marry is?”
“It seems so,” You moved your head to the side, your cheek now resting on his shoulder as you stared at the scene. “Figured you would know, probably happy that a woman won’t have to rule.”
“Do you think that low of me?”
“Do you really want to know?” You tried to convey a teasing tone to your voice.
“(Y/n).”
Your head perks up. The tone of his voice was so stern, so commanding, and yet so silent. No titles, no pet names, no nothing, just your name. Tilting your head up, you saw Kuroo staring forward, hitting the reins once more to signal Wilbur to continue moving. Feeling the tension surrounding you both, you opt it was best for him not to know, feeling guilty that you did. “That doesn’t matter.”
The rest of the ride was silent.
Tumblr media
Arriving at the courtyard of the Chilgrave Castle, you smiled as you saw your ladies rushing out of the doors and down the steps to greet you. With Wilbur coming to a stop, you quickly jumped off, meeting your ladies with a tight hug. “Oh, have I missed you both!” You squealed, smiles erupting on all your faces.
“When we saw you and Kuroo on the horse we become scared,” Yachi pulled away, looking at you and down.
“Where is your carriage?” Kiyoko asked, looking behind and saw Kuroo getting down at the horse, holding the reigns, and handing it off to the servant. “Where’s Sir Suna and the guards?”
“On their way,” You assured them, “The wheel broke and Suna thought it would be best if we finished the journey on horseback.”
“No matter,” You heard Lady Daphne’s voice cut through. With your Ladies moving to the side, their heads slightly down and hands overlapping each other in front of them. With her graceful walking down the steps, her harsh cold glare became softer. “A lady should never ride horseback when traveling, especially for long distances. One should wait until the carriage is fixed. But I am glad you arrived safe, your highness.”
“It’s good to see you too Lady Daphne.”
“Now I believe your ladies should escort you to your room. I will send out a party to see if Suna and his men need any assistance and help them arrive here safely. And Kuroo, I wish to speak to you privately.”
With your ladies chatting with you, filling you in on the latest gossip and exciting events that were to happen, you peeked over your shoulder. Your lips tug down as you saw Kuroo avoiding eyes from your being, looking to the side, and waiting for whatever Lady Daphne had to say. Trying to ignore the feeling of guilt that plagued your mind, you looked back forward and listen to what your ladies were saying, bringing back a gleeful, exciting smile.
“Kuroo, walk with me.”
Walking on the side of the castle on the loud gravel, Kuroo slowly walked with her, his head scanning around the grounds. The peaceful state, beautify with trees surrounding the castle, allowing the long-needed privacy that usually does not come with royalty. Walking deeper into the estate they came to a garden that Kuroo had to admit, was beautiful.
“As you know, there is a ball that will be held in one week,” Lady Daphne started, to which Kuroo's only response was a hum. “And I, being the Princess’s escort, it is expected that I will attend. You being the Princess’s personal protector, are expected to join as well.”
“I am aware.”
“But you don’t have the social skill do you?” Kuroo stayed silent, stopping when Lady Daphne stopped to look at him. “I was going to teach you when it came closer to her birthday ball but now is better to prepare you for it.”
“And here I thought this was supposed to be a vacation,” Kuroo chuckled, joking about the events. “Is this all you wanted to speak about?”
“No,” She sighed. “Duchess Dana has a son, Edward. His majesty wishes Princess (Y/n) to meet with him once more.”
“Once more?”
“They were childhood friends,” Frowning at her words. “But they are rumors, gossip about that man. He is not as noble as he says he is.”
“And you wish for me to keep an eye on the Princess?”
“No, rather I want you to find evidence.”
Feeling odd at her request, Kuroo thought of why she would ask him such a thing. Trying to find a tell on Lady Daphne’s face, he took note of how serious the matter is. “Why not tell his majesty?”
With a shock of her head, Daphne was quick to dismiss the idea, “He will not believe what I have to say without a man agreeing with evidence.” Given how to convince your father was thinking Edward would be the perfect match, he fails to realize what sort of husband Edward may be. “That is why, you will help me.”
“You wish for me to spy on him?”
“I wish for you to help pick a candidate,” She corrected. “Suitors know they must have my approval first before meeting with his majesty for the princess’s hand. What they will not know is they would need your approval as well.”
Scrunching his face in hesitation and skepticism, he crossed his arms, confused as to why she would think such an idea. “Why would they need my approval?”
She merely sighed, pinching her lips together as to why he didn’t understand his opinion mattered, “Since they do not care about you nor your opinion of them, they will not masquerade themselves. They will reveal who they are to you.”
“I see,” Kuroo hummed. Nodding his head as he now understood her, Kuroo clicked his tongue, “I rather not do that.”
“What?”
“That’s already much work that requires of me,” he stated. “Firstly, I have to protect the princess’s well-being and now I must protect her heart?”
“Not her heart,” Daphne looked away in pity. Something that Kuroo easily picked up and felt his chest twinge in hate. Correcting him, Daphne held her head high as she did so, “Her kingdom.”
Kuroo stayed quiet. What else could he say? No matter his response was, he knew Lady Daphne would still seek his opinion of the suitors. So, why not gain something from her? “Only if you do me a favor in the future.”
Tumblr media
Throughout the week, you spend most of your time with your ladies. Each kept you up to date on the latest gossip of the nobility that lived in the country or on vacation. Informing you of the latest trends, concerning you with what dress to wear based on the style. With all the new information given to you, you found it difficult to retain each new knowledge. In the back of your mind, you grew worried about Kuroo. Rarely had seen him around the castle, when asked where is his, your ladies would shrug their shoulders, unaware of what and where he could be. There was a moment when you and he did spend time together. But it was as tense and tight as the horse ride, if not then more. Tried to humor him and tease him as before, tried to anger him, upset him, or anything, yet he gave no reaction. Excusing himself, stated he had other business to do.
With the day being Duchess Dana ball, you tried to push back the ill feeling and focus on preparing yourself. Your ladies helped you in any and all ways they could. Fixing your hair, doing your makeup, helping you in the tightly fitted corset of a dress. Dressed and appropriately fitting for a royal princess. Standing in your room, looking at yourself in the mirror and you had a giggling smile as you twirled in your dress, admiring the beautiful dark hue of the green that complimented your skin. With your ladies already left to the ball, scouting around and being your little spies. Excited to see what rumors will be revealed as truth or just merely gossip. While you, wanted nothing more than practice on your pianoforte, or read, you weren’t sure what you wanted to do but you do know you did not want to go to the ball. Did not want to see Edward.
“My lady,” the door of your chambers creaked open, revealing a servant who bowed their head upon seeing you. “It is now time. Please, allow me to escort you.”
“Thank you,” You turned to smile at her. Glancing yourself once more at the mirror, you patted down the skirt before following her out of the room. Walking down the many halls and steps of the castle to reach the entrance, you noticed there was a spring in your step. Maybe you were excited? The buzz feeling in your chest, your stomach churning in excitement, the ways your hands kept smoothing the silk on your dress, you enjoyed the feeling so much you actually thought you might burst. Arriving at the foyer of the castle, you saw Lady Daphne and Kuroo having a conversation. Slowly walking down the steps, the clicking of your heels alerted them of your presence. Stopping their serious conversation, they both looked at you, one with proud admiration and the other in awe.
“You look beautiful princess,” Lady Daphne complimented you, giving you a small bow as she did so. She smiled as you gracefully walked up to her and Kuroo. Eyeing the man beside her, she cleared her throat, breaking him out of his trance, “Isn’t that correct Kuroo?”
“Yes,” He cleared his throat, trying not to let eyes wonder, “your dress is very, exquisite.”
Shocked by his compliment, you only nodded your head slowly as the corner of your lips twitched. “Thank you,” You whispered.
Lady Daphne becomes beckoned with her hand. “Shaw we head out?”
Leaving the inside of the castle and heading out to the courtyard, a beautiful gold-trimmed carriage was waiting for the three of you. With you all inside the carriage, the carriage then started its journey to Duchess Dana's estate. Thankfully, the estate wasn’t so far from the castle. Sadly, with the ride going so short, Lady Daphne was quick to give you a lecture, telling you the do’s and don’t’s of tonight. “And absolutely,” Lady Daphne hissed, giving you a pointed look. Something that you turned your head away with guilt, “No running off. Especially outside. Am I understood?”
You only stayed silent, not wanting to promise her anything. Knowing yourself so well, you know you would run quickly out to the terrace for some fresh air, disregarding the unspoken rule of needing to have an escort when going out. Especially somewhere so secluded from the prying eyes of society.
Lady Daphne did not enjoy your silence and did not accept your silence as agreement, so she repeated this question. With a more harsh, hissing voice coming from her, you blurted, “I understood Lady Daphne. I promise I will not wander off.”
Kuroo watched the interaction with worried confusion. His eyes dart from your annoyed expression to Lady Daphne’s worried lace with annoyance, similar to a pesky mother to a child. “If I may interject,” Kuroo chuckled, concern and a hint of fear, praying what he thought isn’t what they implied. “She tends to wonder? As in wonder outside? Wonder out to the open fields where anyone can take her?”
“She tends to.”
“If anyone is concerned,” You rolled your eyes with a huff, “nothing happens when I do.”
Kuroo leaned back in his seat, exhaustion flooding his body as another chore was placed upon him. Ignoring the banter that was going on between you and Lady Daphne, he closed his eyes, thinking this will be his only time to be able to relax. Praying the evening will go by quickly and with no troubles. Especially no troubles.

WHY CANT I FIND A MAN LIKE THIS!!! THIS IS WAY TOO CUTE!!!
bf!suna who has an album of you filled with pics and the often stupid videos he takes when he’s feeling silly with you.
bf!suna who has a video of him standing behind you whilst you’re reading a book on the couch and his hand is in the video, faking a jerking off motion to you til you notice and then he releases his hand like he just finished.
bf!suna who has a video of you sleeping where your shirt has ridden up that your boobs are so close, if you stir in your sleep again they’ll, for sure, pop out. and in the video is another stupid clip of his hand, shaking madly while he gently (and reluctantly) pulls your shirt down, hand still shaking like it’s the hardest thing to do.
bf!suna who has another video of you sleeping and he’s just poking your cheeks softly, occasionally pinching them as well.
bf!suna who has a video of him creeping up behind you while you’re doing the dishes and he proceeds to cup your ass while bouncing it in his hand “hey everyone, back with another, this time featuring my girlfriends ass—with a review!” You obviously proceeded to wet him with the dirty sink water (he’s done this before, many, many times.)
bf!suna who has a video of you drunk and crying to the ending of coco while clinging to his side. his lips are pursed together while he’s giving you the nastiest yet nonchalant side eye, nodding once and a while to your complains, “this boys family is a menace Rin! Can you believe that?”
bf!suna who has a video of you squashed to his chest because your shirt is off out of annoyance to the heat of summer. You were bathing in the new chill of having no shirt that you didn’t notice he’s taking a video of him cheering silently while your side boob and his side of his chest are in view, mf is cheering like a teenage boy.
bf!suna who has a video of him randomly coming up to you and pressing your foreheads together while he opens his mouth wide in a funny way. You’re grimacing and he’s just in a silly mood to mess with you.
bf!suna who has a video of you walking from the water in your bathing suit, it flips back to him who falsely claims he’s been shot through his actions, “I’ve been shot by sexiness, someone help me,” it cuts after he pretends he’s dead on the sun-chair.
bf!suna who has a video of him after he’s done being your professional photographer. He pretends he’s taking more, going around you while you laugh, “look here, baby, yes! perfect! one more ms. Suna! Give me fierce!” Completely doesn’t care about the public walking past.
bf!suna who has a video of him pretending to be a YouTuber again. He has a cute headband on and a pink face mask on along with you who is busy doing a lip mask,
“hey everybody, welcome back! Today I am venturing into a women’s skin care,” you punched him in the chest playfully, “excuse you, i’m not just a women, thank you very much,”
he chuckled, “right, everyone, this is my beautiful, sexy, caring, and perfect girlfriend #soon-to-be-wife.” (he whispered that to the camera, hoping the songs playing on your speaker was loud enough.)
And finally, bf!suna who has a video of you crying while laughing after he just proposed, your quite literally balling and this mf is just smiling while cradling you to his side, “#not so soon-to-be-wife anymore!”
bf!suna who just loves those videos so much (and taking more) that he hopes his storage doesn’t run out soon because he’s on his last storage plan.

“Hey ma,” a child asked, laying in his bed as his curious eyes stared at his mother, who was tucking him in. “How do you know you love someone?”
His mother stopped for a moment, looking at him with a puzzlement expression, “What’s with the sudden curiosity?”
“Just wonderin'.”
“Well,” His mother began, Moving to lie next to the young boy. Wrapping her arms around him and moving his dark hair out of his eyes. “First ya got to understand how you feel when you’re with them. If you’re always happy and smilin’ then that’s a sign you’re in love. But if they compliment you and your heart burst! Then you know you’re in love.”
“What about you and pa?” The child asked, nuzzling his head further into the pillow as he looked up at his mother.
“Well,” she hesitated, something the child never took note of. “What about me and your father?”
“I heard that if you love someone, they’re ya soulmate,” The child gleamed. “So you and papa are soulmates right!”
With a sullen expression, she looked down, a look of ashamed on her face as she listened to her son, “Yes, we are dear.”
“How do you know?”
The mother stayed silent. Looking down at her lap as she tried to find the words to tell her son. There are no soul mates in this world, she wanted to say. People only marry for convinces, comfort, for riches. No one marries for love. She didn’t marry for love so how would others marry? Yet, she couldn’t find herself telling him that, not with his innocence of the world surrounding them.
“Ma?”
His small voice called out, breaking out of her trance. Slightly shaking her head, she turned to look at him with a tight, trying of comfort smile, but her eyes caught a small mole on her arm. Showing him the small mole, she came up with a lie, “This is how you know. Moles are your soulmate's favorite spot to kiss you from your past life, and this is where your father would kiss me.”
“Pa is weird to kiss you there.”
“He is,” she gulped, trying to rid of the guilt. Quickly getting out of bed, she straightens her dress, wanting nothing more than to end the conversation. “Not it’s time to bed, goodnight dear.”
“Enunciate louder,” Kuroo heard lady Daphne's voice boom in the room. Her voice snapped him out of his dream, reminding him where he was. Looking at where you were, you stood in front of the room, enunciating each word louder than you did before, just as lady Daphne instructed you. You looked uncomfortable as you stood straight and tall as you could, your hands folding in front of you with poise, your head high, making you seem dignified. Rather, it made you look odd, something that Kuroo had to smile at your appearance. Scrunching your face in annoyance at Kuroo, Lady Daphne yelled, “No, making faces, it is unbecoming for a Princess.”
An annoyed hiss was heard when you took a deep breath. Kuroo did his best to hide the snicker smile from blooming on his face, something that he failed to do. Feeling the cold, harsh stare from Lady Daphne, Kuroo slowly stopped his snickering. Yet the amusing smile never left his face as he listened to your voice booming through the large hall.
Enunciate each word more than before, your voice louder and clearer, you felt Lady Daphne’s proud stare from the balcony. Focusing on the speech you memorized, you succeeded in ignoring Kuroo and Lady Daphne. Wanting nothing more than perfect in your speeches.
Yet with everything going so well, the doors to the ballroom were opened. The creaking of the doors made you stop mid-word, eyes training on your father’s guard who entered the room. Lady Daphne eye’s filled with annoyance as she yelled from the balcony, “Is there a reason for this interruption?”
Your father’s men did not answer. Walking down the ballroom, Kuroo smiled face as he carefully stalked him. Noting the seriousness on his face as he stalked closer to you. Pushing himself against the wall, Kuroo walked to stand next to you, arriving at the same time as the men did.
“Your highness,” The knight bowed at you. “Your father sent me to retreat you to the throne room.”
“For what reason?”
“He did not say,” your father’s men replied. He was going to say more, but a look of hesitation loomed on his face. Tilting his head up to the balcony, he saw in the corner of peripheral Lady Daphne; arms crossed; face tense with a tight frown and clenched jaw; nostrils flaring with each exhale that made the knight heavy under her dark, murderous gaze. Looking back at you, you waited patiently for what else he had to say, giving him an encouraging nod and smile as permission to speak out of turn. Leaning in a bit closer to you, Kuroo and yourself leaned in return, thinking the matter was most serious. With a low whisper, he nudged his head upwards to Lady Daphne, “She will be giving me a scolding, is she not?”
Leaning back comfortably, a smile spread on your lips. A soft, mellow chuckle shooked your body slightly at the questions. Kuroo, who took the liberty to answer, lowly whistled, looking up at Lady Daphne’s angry expression, “I believe it would be more of a beating.”
“Flowers,” giving the knight a pleasant smile. Rolling your eyes at Kuroo’s answer made the knight gulp in fearful anticipation. “You may ask my Ladies for help, and you may use my garden if you wish. Perhaps giving her flowers will ease her anger.”
Blowing out the breath he held, he smiled gratefully at you, “Thank you, your highness.”
“Of course. Now, if you could please escort Kuroo and I, the lack of Lady Daphne’s blinking is frightening me.”
Tumblr media
“A King?”
“Yes,” Your father nodded.
With your father seated on his throne, you stood down below the steps. Look disarray and confusion were drawn on your face, complexed as to what your father has said. “You wished for me to marry? To be the next ruler?”
“That is was I said.”
“Apologizes father,” You nervously chuckled. “I knew I was going marry yet, I would rule as Queen and he as Prince?”
“A King.” Your father added. “You just need a King.”
“Why must I need a King?”
“To rule the Kingdom,” He laughed at your odd question. “You did not expect to rule alone did you?”
“Why not?” You nervously encouraged as you slowly felt discouraged at what your father was saying. Feeling disrespected and insulted that you needed someone to help you rule. “I have been taught in the arts, history, politics, war tactics, and philosophers! Why must I need a man to rule?”
“People do not expect a woman to rule,” Your father stated. “Countries would lack respect if a woman ruled. Look at the Kingdom in the East, being ruled by a woman. Many countries have waged war against her, it’s a sign of weakness.”
“And look at how many times she defeated them,” You countered back, angered at his words. “Look at how her Kingdom is thriving. Our travelers reported that they have new inventions, innovations, and medicine.”
“That matters not,” Your father raised up from his seat, anger singing in his voice. “Women should not rule and women will not rule. You will marry. And he will be the next ruler. Not you. You will focus on being the confidant and producing the new heir. ”
Holding your hands tightly, you turned your head in anger. Blinking away the hot tears that threaten to spill, you clenched your jaw shut. Refusing to say anything to acknowledge what he said. “Now,” Your father breathed out slowly, seating back down on his throne in a calm manner. “You may go.”
Looking back at him with a tight, annoyed smile, you did a small courtesy before quickly turning on your heel and dashing away. With the guards opening the door for you, you quickly dashed through and entered the hallway. Passing the guards who were waiting outside and Kuroo who quickly pushed himself off the wall and followed you.
Kuroo was quick to notice your angry demeanor; hands clenched at your sides, stomping down the hallway, not knowing where you were going, merely marching away; muttering curses underneath your breath. “Not that I care, but is everything-”
Stopping in your tracks, Kuroo was quick to stop himself before crashing into you. Spinning on your heel, you turned your body to face him. He took note of your flared nostrils, the tension in your jaw, and angry tears forcing their way out of your eyes. Kuroo has always seen you angry, given it was always at him for many reasons, yet this was different. He has never seen you so livid, so torn, so retired.
“What do you do?”
The way you asked him made him raise his eyebrows in surprise. Your voice sounded so tired, saying it in a sigh.
“What do I do?”
“What do you do?” You repeated, chest heaving with each deep breath to calm yourself. “Whenever you want to release some anger. What. Do. You. Do?”
“There is one way,” Kuroo thought, “but I don’t think a lady, especially you should. But I would enjoy watching it.” Kuroo was quick to frown at your expression, not impressed by his crude joke.
With a quiet sniffle, you shocked your head before tuning your body back around, “I knew you would not care.”
“Come on,” Kuroo grabs hold of your wrist, stopping you from going any further away. His lips curled slightly into a soft smile. Creating such a soft feature on his face, his voice carried the same tone. “I know the perfect thing to do.”
Tumblr media
“That was the most pathetic punch, I have ever witnessed.”
“You said to put everything in it,” You growled, turning to face the man that brought you to the training area.
Kuroo only smirked at your snarled look. It only has been less than an hour since he taught you to have to form a punch, but teaching you how to through a punch was more entertaining. He found himself enjoying time with you; having it be in lessons, muttering snickers and remarks of insult to each other, which both knew held no real meaning. Even in silence, times when both would be reading in peace, a comfortable silence would always fall that Kuroo surprisingly grow to enjoy. Now, seeing you trying to punch the dummy that was being held on a large log, he was more than entertained. “I also said to use the form I showed you.”
Pushing himself to walk towards you, he noticed how you rubbed your left hand, trying to ease the growing discomfort on your knuckled. With a roll of his eyes, he swiftly grab hold of your hand, inspecting for anything out of place, “If you had listened, you wouldn’t be in pain.”
“I’m not in pain,” You hissed, trying to bring your hand back to you. Yet Kuroo holds it firm, looking at you through his lashes with annoyance. “I didn’t even hit it that hard for me to be in pain.”
Kuroo only hummed at your response, looking back down at your delicate hand. Softly rubbing his thumb over your knuckled, an impulse ran through Kuroo’s head that he strangled acted on it. Bring your knuckled to his lips, and he kissed the knuckle of where your ring finger. With his eyes stalking at you as he kissed, he noticed how surprised you were. Eyes slightly widen, eyebrows raised, and your mouth slightly opened at the shock. He wasn’t so focused on that, he was mainly focusing on the growing heat that was blooming on your face as he held eye contact with you. Moving your hand away from his lips, he slowly let go allowing your hand to hover in the air as you hesitant slowly back to you. The corners of his lips twitched with a satisfied smirk, “If your father found out I was the cause of your pain, he’ll have me sent to the cells. Again…”
“Yes,” You said slowly, tracing your knuckles once more with your thumbs, lightly tracing over the spot he kissed. “We don’t want that.”
“Shall we go again?”
Turning around on your heel, you quickly walked off. Feeling embarrassed about the who ideal, you quickly said, “I need to meet with my Ladies.”
Kuroo watched you hurriedly walk away as he stayed, smiling as you left with the feeling of giggles to him. He had finally made you speechless. And in the back of his mind, he secretly enjoyed the kiss he placed on your hand.

Having dinner with your father was something you wished you had a choice. With the argument you had today, you wanted nothing more than to stay in your room, and dine with your ladies as you thought of all the events that happened today. With the only noise in the room the burning wick of the candles and the movements of utensils hitting the plates, you hated every second of it.
You knew the reason why your father asked you to dine with him, your favorite food laid out in front of you as you did your best not to show the enjoyment of the taste. He only wanted to calm your anger, your annoyance, of him taking one thing you have prepared your whole life of doing. All those times spending time in lectures felt meaningless, knowing that it would not matter. But what hurt the most, your father would do anything to help you forgive him, yet he will never acknowledge it and apologize.
“What would you say to a vacation?”
Placing your utensils down, you reached over to your goblet filled with water, bringing it up to your lips, before you could have a sip your repeated, “A vacation?”
“Yes,” Your father smiled, pleased to hear you respond. “To the country? Say, in two weeks? And return a week before your birthday.”
“That’s nearly a month,” You creased your eyebrows, placing the goblet back down on the table. Turning your head to face your father, you narrowed your eyes as your father looked at you, feeling there was a motive behind this. “For what reason do we need a vacation? There’s still a lot needed for the ball-”
“You will be going,” he interrupted, “Not I. I will stay and be here, where I needed. The country could do you some good.”
“I see.”
“And Duchess Dana is hosting a party, you will be going. You remember her don’t you?”
“How could I not,” You huffed through your nose, tensing since you now know the real reason for sending you off. “Her son and I were playmates as children.”
“And he is looking for a wife,” Your father noted. “I’ve heard he is an amazing man, very well-educated and talented.”
A tired sigh escaped your lips as you listen to him talk, looking at him with pleading eyes, you did your best to voice yourself, “Father-“
“You will go,” The King sternly said. He made no room to argue as he glared at you. The man who sat next to you at the head of the table was no longer acting as if he was your father, rather was acting like a King. A king gives a command to his subject that they must follow as law. “Lady Daphne will occupy you as your escort. As well Kuroo will be an attendee as your protector. Kita informed me that he left Suna her if needed so I will use him. He would be head of the division to make sure you arrive safely.”
“Yes, father.”
“You will attend the party at Duchess Dana's estate and you will converse with Edward and see if he will be a potential King to bring this Kingdom further.”
“Yes, father.”
With your words of confirmation, The King went back to eating his food. Acting as if his actions did not cause any emotional pain to you. With you slowly looking back at your food, you slowly went back to eating in silence. The only sound in the room was the burning wick of the candles and the untiles lighting hitting the plate.

(Y/n) always thought of love as a flame on a candle.
“Love is…The fire on the candle,” your mother would always tell you. “It starts with something lighting it, meaning there will be a time where you will find someone, probably when you first met them or later in the courtship, where your heart feels…well…full… And then it burns the wick, blooming it into a small light. That is when the love starts to bloom, where you start to burn and bloom for them. And as the flame grows brighter and stronger, your love will also. But, dearest, just with a single blow, the flame will die and the love will be no more. So, be careful my love on who you burn and wilt for.”
“Keep your head up, Princess,” Your dance instructor sternly watched you. Yelling over the string quartet that was playing in the ballroom. Circling you as she eyed for many mistakes. “Your birthday ball is coming up next month. We cannot afford any mistakes.”
“And you, boy,” Her eyes narrowed at Kuroo, watching as he was leading you in a waltz, “How do you expect the Princess to be perfect if you keep messing up? Fix your posture.”
“Apologies,” Kuroo rolled his eyes, fixing his posture.
“Good,” She nodded. “Now, let’s raise the tempo a bit, shall we? One, two, three, one, two, three…”
“This is ridiculous,” Kuroo muttered under his breath. “Why must I be the one to dance with you?”
“Oh, how I would love for it to be with someone else,” you whispered back, “at least they would be a better dancer than you.”
“I’m a magnificent dancer, princess,” Kuroo slyly smiled down. “You’re just not a good dancer.”
Breathing through your nostrils, flaring as you glared at your dance partner with annoyance. “I am a magnificent dancer.”
“Princess, what did I say about your elbows?” Your mentor interrupted your banter with your protector.
“Keep them level…”
Raising an eyebrow as she nudged her head to your arms, seeing how they are slowing dipping down, “And are they leveled?”
Raising your elbows back where they should be, you felt your face warming up at Kuroo snicking. “You should pick your battles, princess,” Tightening his hold on your waist, he brought you closer to him, staring down at you with amusement as you looked at him with embarrassment.
With the two of you continuing to dance, your embarrassment slowly went away and was replaced with disgust. You noticed how with each step, the closer the two of you got. A point where your chest brushes against his, which make you inhale sharply at the touch.
Moving your eyes to look at his face, you were surprised to meet his own eyes looking back at you. Panic swept through your body as he looked at you with a knowing smirk. Making you think he could have read your mind and the distasteful enjoyment. With the panic that filled you, your foot moved on its own. Harshly stomping your heel on Kuroo’s foot, with no regard.
Watching with wide eyes and sucking your lips in as Kuroo tied to muff a painful yell as he took a step back. Slowly turning his back on you, clenching his hands in a tight fists as he let out loud whispers of curses. Limping on one foot as he did not wish to put pressure on his wounded one. Snapping his neck to look at you as you cleared your throat, he gritted his teeth as you looked away innocently, smoothing down the skirt of your dress with your hands. “You-”
“I believe I need some rest, Lady Daphne,” You quickly stated, “it seems my tiredness has caught up to me and now has some repercussions.”
Your mentor only sighed, turning to look at the pianist with a disappointing nod to signal him he is no longer needed. With the pianist gathering his papers, Lady Daphne turned back to look at you, watching as you darted your eyes away from Kuroo and stood in perfect posture. “Yes, I do agree with you Princess (Y/n).”
With Lady Daphne curtsy a farewell, you smiled at her with a nod, wishing her a farewell as she left the ballroom. With her gone, you clapped your hands together softly as you turned to look at Kuroo with a frown, seeing how he is still hesitant to pressure his foot down, “Apologies, but I did not step on you that hard.”
“You stomped on me!” Kuroo accused you, looking at you in disbelief.
Rolling your eyes at him with a huff, you ignored him as you turned to a servant who was in the room, “May you please help him to a chair? And fetch us some tea?”
“Of course, your grace,” the servant bowed, heading towards Kuroo. But when he got close to helping him to a chair, Kuroo raised his hand, politely declining his help and he went limping to the nearby table and chair. With the servant looking at you for permission to go since he could not complete your first requisition, you merely nodded at him with a smile, thanking him as he went to finish your other request.
Sitting across from Kuroo, you watched as he tend to his foot, rubbing his ankle to ease to pain. But all your eyes were trained on was only looking at his hands, remembering how they felt on the back of your waist. Distasted ever since he became your dance partner in these lessons and for some reason, you wonder why you always look forward to these lessons ever since. The two of you would always bicker, be annoyed with each other, or joke about Lady Daphne's ridiculous request when it comes to helping to dance perfectly. And all the leisure moments you would spend with Kuroo always by your side, slowly turning annoyance to contentment after spending almost four-month together.
“Are you now feeling the regret of stomping me?” Kuroo said breaking you out of your trance.
Inhaling through your nostrils, you picked up the book that was laying on the table, softly shaking your head, “Would you like an apology? I barely stepped on you.”
“You drilled your heel into me!”
“Well, I am sorry,” You smiled at him before opening your book and then muttered, “that you are acting like a child.”
“What?”
“I said I was sorry, what more do you want from me?”
“…Those tea sandwiches you always have whenever you have guests over…”
“Sandwiches?” You glanced up at him, creasing your eyebrows at his request. You didn’t question his actions as he cleared his throat with him looking away bashfully. His cheeks giving bright with a red hue as he tried his best to hide it behind his hand when coughing. “I will request some when the teas arrive.”
“Not saying you have to…”
“Of course not, Kuroo.”
Tumblr media
“My god, this book is far too boring,” You sighed, closing the book down on the table before lifting your teacup to take a sip.
“If only you had a library filled with books to cure your boredom,” Kuroo sighed, opening his eyes from his nap.
You only ignored his comment, looking back at where Kuroo and you were dancing moments ago. Kuroo only looked at you in question, grabbing another of the cut, small triangle shape sandwiches and throwing it in his mouth in delight. “Do you think I was a bad dancer?”
Blinking his eyes at you, he hesitantly asked, “May I speak openly?”
“Are you saying you have not done so already?” You sighed, looking at him with a frown, to which his only smirk at you in return.
“You are a magnificent dancer,” Kuroo’s smirk turned into a soft smile, slowly standing up from his chair and offering his hand to you. “You allow Lady Daphne into your head.”
“And you propose I ignore her?” You accepted his hand, helping you out of the chair and leading to where the two of you were just dancing moments ago.
“I do,” Kuroo said nonchalantly. Staring at him for a moment, you then burst into laughter, amused at how simple he made it sound.
“What’s so funny?”
“Nothing,” You calmed your laughter, “just you made it sound so… Simple.”
Kuroo rolled his eyes at you in amusement, chuckling at your laughter. But with both of your laughter dying down, Kuroo slowly bowed, his eyes locked with yours, “May I have this dance?” Parking at his question, you nodded with a small side smile, allowing him to put his hand on your waist and bring you closer. With your free hand gently placed on his shoulder and lifted the other, the two of you began to waltz. Creating your tempo, the two of you circled the room. With his touch burning you, you tried to mask the shaky breath as you stared at him, and with him staring back at you with amusement that burned you inside as well.
Disgust filled your body as you stared back at him. Disgusted by how you are slowly wilted at the burn of his touch and stare. Disgusted at how to quicken you lost yourself in his dark brown eyes, as the two of you waltzed, not noticing how with each step the two of you became closer. A point where whenever either of you breathed in, your chest would brush against each other. Oh, how you wished you wanted to pull away but the way you enjoyed the burning was stronger than your strength to do so.
With the two of you slowly coming to a halt, you only started up at him, looking up at him as a deer. “See,” Kuroo gave you a side smile, unintentionally tightening the hold of your waist, “you danced wonderfully.”
And unknown to either of you, the candle has been lit.
“Am I, interrupting?”
Parking your ears as you heard the familiar soothing voice, you turned around and away from Kuroo’s arms. A bright, wide smile appeared on your face as you saw Kita standing by the door, looking at you with soft eyes. Picking the skirt of your dress, you hurriedly ran towards the knight, leaping onto him as you wrapped your arms around his neck, “Oh! How I missed you!”
“I missed you as well, Princess,” Kita chuckled at you, wrapping his arms around your waist, living you up, and twirling you around. Gently placing you down, Kita unravel his arms, his eyes memorizing how you grew more beautiful before he left. But feeling a harsh glare, Kita looked behind you and saw the man who replaced him. With the dark look, Kuroo's eyes narrowed at him with hatred, making Kita match his glare back at him.
“How many times must I tell you to call me (Y/n)?” Your voice broke him out of the trance, looking back at you with soft features that were reserved for you, and you alone.
“Once more as always, Princess,” He responded, a boyish smile appearing seeing you shyly looking down and then looking back at him. Kita ignored the mocking sounds that came from the person behind you and focused internally on you. “I am to leave just as quick as I had arrived, but I wished to see you before my departure.”
With a crestfallen expression on your face, Kita twitched his hand in restrain, keeping his composure. But his gentle smile quickly turned into annoyance as Kuroo sighed loudly, “Well, you saw her, goodbye.”
“Kuroo,” Kita said in annoyance, trying to keep a neutral composure on his face as he stared at his replacement. “Kita.”
“I see you are still, here,” he paused, trying to stay civil in front of you. With Kuroo’s presence and his cocky demeanor, Kita wanted nothing more but to keep him away from you.
“Well, I am supposed to be around her, at all times,” Kuroo gave him a tight smile, “just as you taught me.”
Both of the men glared at each other, refusing to blink as if they were in a staring contest. With a deep sigh, you rolled your eyes at the two before stepping in front of the two, interrupting their contest, “Can you at least stay for a few more minutes? Please?”
With his eyes looking at you, Kita couldn’t find it in his heart to say no to your pleas. With a gently, soft smile, he nodded his head at you, offering his arm to you, “Shall we head to the fountain?”
“I would love to,” You softly smiled at him, your heart bursting as you accepted his arm. But before you denatured with Kita, you turned to look at Kuroo, “Shall we meet in the library? Say… in an hour?”
“Or we could meet at the training grounds?” Kuroo snipped back.
“I will see you in the library!” You replied, turning your head to look at him for a moment as you and Kita started walking to your gardens.
Watching as the two walked away, Kuroo only sighed, massaging the back of his neck as he walked back to the table with a mutter, “How could his face be so boring yet annoying?” Reaching the table, Kuroo’s eye scanned it in search of those delicious sandwiches, trying to snatch them before the maids could finish cleaning up the mess, but only to find none. “Where are the sandwiches?”
“You ate them,” the maid said with no hesitations, confused as to why he asked such a dumb question.
“All of them?”
“Who else would have?” She rolled her eyes, placing the teacups on a small trolly cart, before rolling it away.
“I need to control my temptations better…”
Tumblr media
Arriving at the fountain, hidden away in your garden, the two of you passed the beautiful flower archway, leading to a space filled with the aroma of red roses, carnations, tulips, orchids, and peonies. The small heels of your shoes pattered against the cobbler stones that lead to the fountain, you smiled as you slowly moved your arm away from Kita. Turning to fully face him, your cheeks warmed as you saw his eyes soft and filled with admiration, “Please, inform me of your travels.”
“I’m afraid I cannot go into detail, my Lady,” brushing your hair away from your face, giving you a gentle smile as your smile dropped. “But, I can inform you that I have missed yours deeply. Please, tell me of your time.”
With the smile returned to your lips, you sat at the rim of the fountain with Kita following suit, “I believe it will be a bore to hear, but I have spent most of my time in preparation for the ball.”
“You are turning twenty,” Kita scanned you, trying to capture the memory of you, “and it is only right to celebrate what a fine woman you become.”
“Oh, how I missed your flattery,” You sighed dreamily. “Kuroo only annoys me and jest. And having him as my dance partner in practices, I’ve been miserable. I would feel… Dirty whenever we do.”
“Whatever do you mean, Princess?”
“A feeling…” You looked away, staring off as you remembered the dance from earlier. The way his hands burned your skin, leaving the sensation in your skin once he took his hands off of you. Remembering how not only did he leave a burning sensation on your skin but in your heart. A warm filling in your chest as you danced with him, a new feeling that you felt. “A feeling of burning yourself, you need cold water to ease the pain.”
“I see,” He hummed, pondering a way to help fix your predicament, “why not ask Suna to be your dance partner? He’s the only one of my men that stayed and not joined me.”
“I did,” You signed sincerely with a shudder, “but it seems his feet are not gracefully as he is with a sword.”
A deep chuckle erupted from Kita, making you smile as you bumped your shoulder with his, “Oh, I believe that.”
With both of your laughter dying, a sigh escaped from you as you looked at him with warmth. A whisper echoed breaking the silence between the two of you, “I have missed you Shinsuke.”
“I’ve missed ya as well.”
“How long will you be away?” You asked, knowing you will not like the answer.
A heavy sigh escaped his lungs, and tiredness filled his eyes as he thought about his orders, “As long as the King needs me to be.”
You turned to look at him, opening your mouth to speak but you bit your tongue, looking forward as you ponder what to say. Until a sudden realization that he could be away for longer, made you gather your courage. With a deep inhale, you turned to face the now young general, touching his forearm with your fingertips to ground you, “Then I believe I should say this, not wanting to regret if you are to be away for so long.”
“Princess.”
If only you had listened to his voice as he addressed you.
“My feelings that I harbor for you, it’s been years of longing for you that I love, I love you,” Your heart racing, hopefully, that he returned your feelings. I thought ran in your head that he must return your feelings. The way the two of you acted with each other so comfortably, the looks of yearning and love both of you shared. He must, right? So why…
When your eyes met him, your heart was struck with grief as you noticed he no longer have a soft look but rather the stoic look he would always give to others. Your body became frozen as fear swept through your body and soul Kita moved his arm away and scooted away from you, “You’re highness,” Kita breathed out, making you quickly look away and flinch your hand away and onto your lap. “I apologize for any miscommunication…But I am not ready for love. Your Highness, I do apologize…”
“No just…It is getting late.” You breathed, holding your head high as you trained your eyes away from the man next to you. “You did mention you are on a tight schedule.”
Slowly standing up, Kita took a step to be in front of you, and with a tight posture, bowed to you. Wishing you would look at him once again before he left. But you only avoid his eyes, merely giving him a nod and a tight smile, acknowledging his farewell. “Until then, Princess,” Kita whispered, masking the yearning in his voice as he slowly turned and walk away. His hands flexed and clenched together as he fought back the urge to walk back to you and say the words you want to hear.
Once you could no longer hear Kita’s steps crunching the grass and gobbler stones, you wrapped your arms around yourself as you curled, allowing the tears to fall down your face. Swallowing yourself in the pain of your heart tearing apart, a flame slowly died with each tear that fell.
Tumblr media
With Kita arrived back to his men in the palace courtyard, ready to head out, he scanned the area, his eyes training to find a certain knight. But once he felt a familiar presence next to him, Kita knew he could stop his search, “Already leaving so soon?”
“Suna,” Kita's lips twitched to see the subordinate he left behind, “I was hoping to see ya before I left.”
“Yes, well I was doing the task you ordered me to do but I wanted to wish you a safe journey before you left,” Suna smirked, looking at his general with pride. “Also to give you a report, it’ll save me the time of writing it out and sending it.”
“Please do tell,” Kita nodded and started to head to his horse as he listened to what Suna had to say.
“Given the duty of spying on the Princess’s new bodyguard was no easy task,” he sighed, annoyance filling his voice. “He’s good at what he’s doing and knows when he’s being followed. There are multiple times when I would lose him or he was close to finding me. It’s almost as if he’s taunting me.”
“But when it comes to protecting the Princess?” Kita asked, arriving at his horse and checking the saddle is secure before mounting it.
“It depends,” Suna shrugged, smirking when Kita snapped his neck to look at him. “When it comes to her well-being, yes. When it comes to her emotions, both try to ruin each other. It’s quite hilarious at times if I’m being honest. Both of them needed to be humble in some areas.”
With a heavy sigh, Kita only shook his head, hearing enough from what Suna had to see, “As long as he is protecting her and her honor, all is well. Do keep me updated and inform me if anything happens. There’s something about him I do not like.”
“Of course, General.”
Giving Suna a firm nod, Kita turned to look at the doors of the castle, looking in hope to see you running through it and wishing him and his men a safe journey. But a downcast expression fell on his face, knowing you were not coming. “Is everything all right General?” Suna asked, following his eyesight. “Are you waiting for someone?”
“No,” Kita responded, unknowingly answering both questions instead of one, “We must get going. Farewell Suna, please continue to watch over them.”
“Yes, sir,” Suna saluted, walking away before saying. “Good luck on catching the rebels. I believe you’re going to need it.”

“I swear, if that brat ran off somewhere else,” Kuroo muttered, walking around the cable corridors in search of you. After staying in the library for more than an hour, waiting for you as you instructed him to do (something he regrets), he decided to search for you. Going to different gardens around the castle that had fountains, he has yet to find you. Now trying his luck in different places, his annoyance (and worried) growing with each room he checks.
But in his journey of searching for you, he saw two of you ladies in waiting in what seemed to be in a middle of a casual walk. “Lady Kiyoko! Lady Yachi!” Kuroo spoke loudly, gaining their attention as he jogged to them. “Have you seen your mistress?”
“Kuroo,” Kiyoko greeted him, before looking at Yachi with a confused look. “She’s supposed to be with you.”
“Well,… Yes,” Kuroo hesitated with the answer before rolling his eyes as he explained, “but it seems Kita has returned and they both went off to talk privately. But she asked to meet in the library but it’s been over an hour.”
“She’s probably still with General Kita,” Yachi stated, “it has been months since they have seen each other.”
“Kita and his men had already left,” He stated back, “I noticed them leaving not too long ago while searching for the brat.”
“The Princess,” Kiyoko emphasized the title, narrowing her eyes at him as Kuroo once again rolled his eyes, “is probably pouting and sulking at his departure. Have you checked her chambers?”
“I am not that draft to not check it,” Kuroo sighed, running his hands through his hair. “Just help me look for her.”
“Very well,” Kiyoko sighed, “have you checked her garden?”
“…She has her garden?”
“I’ll take that as a no…”
“We will search for her there,” Yachi instructed, “you will continue to search for her inside the castle. She could have gone to her study since she needs to prepare for her history lesson.”
“I shall,” Kuroo nodded, “I’ll send word if I find her and if you shall found her before I, please retrieve me. I don’t want another scolding from Lady Daphne or her father.”
“One of us shall retrieve you,” Kiyoko nodded, assuring him. “Now go.”
With Kuroo separating from them, he quickly went in the direction of your chambers, cursing himself as to why he forgot to check if you could have been there. The two ladies both watched his back, sighing at the sight, “He does know the study is in the other direction, Kiyoko?”
“Men,” Kiyoko rolled her eyes, turning on her heel and walking to your garden, “they are too stubborn to admit they did not do something.”
Tumblr media
Arriving at the entrance of your private gardens, Kiyoko and Yachi hurried through the walkway stones and soft grass to arrive at the archway. There they both catch their breaths, slowly peaking their heads in hopes to see you well. But their breaths hitched in their throat, seeing you on the ground as your arms and head lay against the rim of the fountain. Quickly picking the skirts of the dress, they rushed towards your side, dropping to either side of you.
“My lady!” Both Kiyoko and Yachi yelled in worried, wrapping their arms around you as you wept. “What has happened?”
You slowly raised your head, you did your best to calm yourself as you started blankly at the water. Listening to the water spurting out so calmly, you focused on the sound to help ease your tears. Watching as the water ripped in effect, you gathered your voice, speaking in a horse manner, “Notify the gardener that I wish to change the flowers in this space.”
“Of course,” Yachi gulped, looking at Kiyoko with confusion.
“I want white and yellow chrysanthemum,” You started, trying to keep your voice steady. But with each word, you fail to do so, “Lilies, cyclamen, and hyacinth. Especially purple hyacinth. I want them surrounding… this area…”
“I will notify them,” she replied, her heart sank with your words. “But let us take you to your chambers and get you washed up.”
“No,” You cried out as you let go a breath, “I wish… to stay here.”
Placing your head back down, hiding in your arms, you allow the tears to fall down your face, no longer fighting them back. Your body shake with each cry you let out, your mind racing as you thought back to all your moments with Kita. Rethinking every moment, every conversation, the time you both spent. Was everything all in your head? Were you always misreading what you assumed were signs of his affection?
“Yachi,” Kiyoko whispered, pushing you gently in her arms as she tried to soothe you. “Please notify Kuroo that we have found her. Perhaps, he can persuade her to retreat to her chambers.”
Yachi quickly nodded her head, looking at you once more with worry in her eyes as her heart ached as you cried out, “I’m a fool.”
“Yachi,” Kiyoko broke her trance. “Go, I will comfort her.”
With her trance broken, Yachi quickly stood and run.
Tumblr media
“Well, at least I know she’s not here…”
Kuroo stood in the middle of your room, scanning it as he had his hands on his waist, plucking his lips to the side as he thought to do next. With a deep sigh, the thought of giving up on searching you came across his head until he notice a leather-bound book sitting peacefully on your desk. With the book open to the most recent page, Kuroo's eyebrow raised with curiosity. Slowly stalking towards your desk, Kuroo eyes the door carefully, hoping no one would arrive. Arriving at your desk, Kuroo carefully traced the page with his finger, as he read the words.
Today was no different from before. But, I have been accustomed to Kuroo, who is slowly no longer sufferable. Which only means I have lost my mind or lost any care of my well-being, or both. But something different did happen today. It started normally just like any other day, but when it came to the middle of the day, Kuroo and I argued about where to go to spend our time. I wished to go to the library and enjoy the peace and tranquillity nature it provided as I read. But of course, the crazy brute wished to go to the training ground, wanting to keep his “physique”.
“Did she put quotations? Has she seen my sculptured body?”
And when we compromised on reading at the training grounds as Kuroo trained, there were moments I could not concentrate on the book. I couldn’t stop my eyes from looking at Kuroo. How his arms would flex, and how his body turns for some odd reason made me-
“Kuroo!”
Quickly hearing his name being yelled, he snapped the book closes, alerted as he turned to look at who had caught him. Seeing Yachi, at the door, chest heaving as she leaned against the door, trying to catch her breath, Kuroo rushed out, “What?”
“We have…” Yachi breathed, struggling to talk as she heaved. “We have found her. She’s…”
Instantly relaxing as Yachi not questioned what he was doing, Kuroo waited for her to finish her sentence, not caring that she was struggling to speak due to her running. “She’s?…”
“Give me a moment,” Yachi breathed out, catching her composure. “She is in her private garden, by the fountain.”
“Well,” Kuroo nodded, blinking at her as he walked to the door, “you make that sound as if I know where that is…”
“Right,” Yachi nodded with a tight smile. “I shall show you where, but the princess is unwell.”
“Of course, she is,” Kuroo muttered. “What happened?”
“Well,” Yachi sighed, hurried out of your room, and Kuroo followed her. “We found her crying. Poor thing was weeping with eyes red with tears and her voice barely there. And she asked us to change the flowers.”
“She’s upset about the flowers?” Kuroo concluded.
“No,” Yachi shooked her head, quickening her pace. “The flowers she asked represent one of mourning and heartbreak. I believe something must have happened to General Kita.”
“Just show me where she is,” Kuroo sighed, following Yachi, “I don’t want to be punished for not keeping my eye on her.”
Tumblr media
Arriving at the fountain, Yachi quickly rushed back down to you, seeing you clinging onto Kiyoko as you cling onto her. Kuroo only stood at the entrance, watching as not Yachi and Kiyoko did their best to soothe you. But their words could not reach you, as you were already passed out from all the crying. Only sniffles escaped from you, as your head lay on Kiyoko.
“Kuroo,” Kiyoko noticed him at the entrance, “it would be better if she is in her bed resting. We will prepare her some tea and food when she wakes.”
Only nodding at her, Kuroo moved towards them. Carefully picking you up in his arms, seeing the dried tears on your cheeks, Kuroo knew how hard you were crying. Scanning you, he noticed there was nothing noticeable that would mean harm was done to you. So as they all walked out of the garden, Kuroo raised the question, “Why was she crying.”
“She confessed,” Kiyoko answered sullenly. Her eyes were downcast as she heavily. “She confessed her affection to General Kita.”
“The flowers,” Yachi gasped. “Is that the reason she asked for”
“Yes,” Kiyoko sighed. “And it has seemed he did not return her affection.”
“Idiot,” Kuroo muttered to himself, glancing down at you in his arms. He didn’t feel anything as he looked down at you, no remorse, no pity. Just nothing as he watched you sleep in his arms. But he did feel a bit worried when he could find you. But that was mainly due to he did not want to face the punishment of your father. Right?

As a child, (Y/n) didn’t understand what life was outside the walls. Living a comfortable life within the palace walls, she never had to worry about anything. Everything was peaceful for her and those inside, so it wasn’t wrong for you to think it was the same outside the palace walls?
(Y/n) couldn’t wrap her mind on why she was suddenly abrupt from her peaceful sleep from white hair male who was a little over her age. With a hand covering her mouth and the other putting his pointer finger over his mouth, telling her to stay silently, (Y/n) eyes widen in shock. With your (E/c) searching his dull brown eye, putting you in a trance, you noticed how alert he was. But hearing screaming and yelling coming from outside, you quickly broke the trance, panic running through your body.
“It’s okay,” He whispered to you, noticing your growing fear. “I need ya to listen to me, Princess. Can you listen to me?” Shockingly nodded your head, Kita slowly distanced his hand from your mouth. Giving you a firm, reassuring nod, he slowly helped you out of bed, “I need ya hide in the closet.”
Hearing a piercing scream not for from outside your bedroom door, you snatched onto his arm, digging her nails as you asked, “Kita, What’s going on? I’m scared.”
“Keep yer voice down,” He shushed you, “I’ll explain later, but I need ya to hide in the closet with me, ‘kay.”
With trembling knees, Kita hurried you to your wardrobe and quickly opened your windows before hiding you and himself before closing the doors. With the tiniest crack, he left just enough space to allow him to see the events that were about to unfold. “I need ya to stay silent,” Kita whispered to you, allowing you to be held close to his chest.
Burying your head into his chest, you tried to calm your rapid breathing. Tightly close your eyes with every piercing scream that was heard. But your eyes shot wide open when you heard your bedroom door slam open. You must have made a noise as you felt Kita’s hand quickly cover your mouth. Snapping your eyes up to his face, Kita’s arm tightens around you, holding you protectingly as he focused on those who came in. Slowing following his eyesight, you watched in horror as you saw three men wearing misshaped armor scanning your bed with swords in hand.
“She’s not here.”
“Her window is open, she must have escaped through the window, Kuroo.”
“Find her. Quickly before they capture us. I want everything he holds dearly gone, especially General Kita. They both will pay.”
“We’ll hurry outside to grab the princess.”
“Meet back at the bridge leading to the North side of the forest, understood.”
“We’ll meet you there Akito.”
“And make sure they’re dead and kill anyone who gets in your way.” Eyes widening as you heard the conversation, your body grew frozen with fear. You stared at the spot you were a moment before, laying peacefully asleep in your bed. Had Kita not gotten to you, you would have been dead, not knowing what was happening or having any way to defend yourself.
You didn’t remember much of what happened that night after the men disappeared from your room. All you could hear was a ringing in your ear, your body moving as you tightly hold onto Kita’s warm hands as he guided you out of the closet and through the castle corridors, seeking somewhere safe. But you must have started crying, feeling Kita's hands swiping away your tears, trying to comfort you, telling you everything was going to be fine before whisking you away once more.
So many questions ran through your head, confused at what was happening. Why are they doing this? What did Kita’s father have to do with any of this? Why did they want you dead? Wasn’t everything perfect? Why?
Even when the raid had passed, you didn’t remember much the next morning. But you do remember throwing up your dinner when you first saw a lifeless body staring at you. The feeling was overwhelming, as you felt your stomach churn from the sight of a pair of dull, lifeless eyes jeering at you, as if mocking you, telling you what could have been. You remembered Kita pulling your hair back out of your face as you through up, being by your side as he comforted you.
The feeling of dread that washed over you when you saw your father weeping over your mother’s lifeless body, your vision blurring as wet streams traveled down your face. Rushing towards your parents, you join your father kneeling over the body of your mother, both of your tears collecting on her blood-soaked nightgown.
Mourning her death came a toll on you. She used to help you with your studies, from how to be a proper lady, to spending time with you and such, but now, tutors filled those roles. You had Kita to spend time with but he was mourning the death of his father as well. Feeling so alone, you spent most of your time in the library, where you had spent many hours with your mother.
When finding the man who killed your mother, you were conflicted when hearing he was sentenced to death. On the day of the execution, the citizens of the kingdom began booing the man as he walked to be hanged, spewing profanities for killing their beloved queen. Was it wrong of you not feeling the same wave of anger as your father and the kingdom? You were happy they caught the man but is death the correct sentence? Would your mother have agreed to this sentencing? She had hated executions, so isn’t this wrong? Shaking those thoughts from your head, you remembered what your father had told you before the hanging, “An eye for an eye. A tooth for a tooth. And life for a life.”
Many years passed and you grew into a fine young lady. Spending most of your time learning about the art of politics, the arts, and history, you became knowledgeable in many fields, having spent most of your time in the library and being gifted books from your father. Using books as a gateway to learn about the world beyond the walls, since your father had made strict measures to have no contact from the outside come inside, making sure you never leave and keeping you safe. With Kita by your side as a friend and protector, he slowly began following in his father's footsteps as a part of the royal guard.
But one day, curiosity had gotten ahold of you, making you want to know what was outside the palace walls. With the help of you lady’s in waiting, Shimizu and Yachi, they disguised you to look as if you were a commoner, showing you a secret passage that allowed you to freely exit and enter the castle grounds. With Kita making his rounds around the palace, you were sure not to be caught and sent your ladies on an errand at the same time you were gone to make sure they will not be blamed for allowing you to go. With a foolproof plan, you successfully escaped the palace grounds and entered the busy city that surrounded the castle.
Walking around the bustling market, you stared at everything in wonder and astonishment. But your heart broke when you saw children and adults in the streets, begging for food or coins. When a small child came running to you, pleading for money, your heart began to ache as you looked at him. Bending down at his level, you gave him one of the gold rings that wrapped your finger, smiling softly at him, “This isn’t much but you can sell it if you want. Just promise to share with your friends, okay.”
Smiling at how the boy’s face lit up, he gratefully thanked you before running off, beckoning his friends over to show what he had received. Standing back up, you watched their silhouettes get smaller as they ran off, before turning on your heels and walking deeper into the market square. Unaware of the many eyes stalking you as you floated by, unguarded.

Kuroo Tetsurou had a calm childhood. While it may have been rough, living in the country, far away from the heart of the kingdom, he lived a calm life. So was it wrong for him to think it would always remain calm throughout his entire life?
Being a teen, Kuroo had more responsibilities, making sure to harvest the field, feed the livestock, and milk the cow. He never minded it, it was calm, but he always wished for more, but as the saying goes: Be careful what you wish for.
Kuroo remembered when the royal army came to his little town, telling his village they received word that the neighboring kingdom was going to invade. He remembered how worried everyone was, the thought of their homes being torn apart and destroyed was enough for them to be grateful for the army’s stay. But what Kuroo had remembered the most from that day, was how the general would steal glances from his mother and how his mother would shyly blush at the general’s stare.
Months had passed and Kuroo enjoyed having the army stationed in his village. Every day, Kuroo would try to get up early to watch the training. His eyes would always sparkle with every move they would make and he would try to mimic them with his makeshift sword, wanting to one day be a great swordsman too. Especially the general, Kuroo admired the general because of his leadership, as well as how fluid he was with not just a sword but a plethora of weapons. But his favorite time of day was right before dinner, he would go to the army camp and be personally taught by one of the many men. Felt as if he was a part of the squadron, laughing with them, and the lot seeing him as a little brother as they took him under their wings. Always smiling as he said, “Just 5 more years and I’ll join! And I’ll be just like General Kita!”
They would always laugh at him, ruffling Kuroo’s head with proud smiles as one would say, “Ya betta work hard then!” On his way home, with a bounce in his step after another amazing session, Kuroo wanted to stop by the general’s tent. It was supposed to be just him, walking through the fabric of the tent doors, excusing himself for distributing, and for General Kita to laugh at him and invite him in. But no, instead Kuroo heard weird noises coming from inside the tent. With curiosity taking hold, he looked between the small crack at the entrance of the tent, wondering what was making that nose. Instead of being satisfied by his curiosity, he was horrified to see his mother in the arms of the general. Heard the groans and moans coming from the pair as he saw the general thrusting into his mother against his desk, whispering sweet nothings that only his father should be saying.
Mortified, Kuroo jumped back, trying to get the awful, awful scene out of his head. Why was the general fucking his mother? Why was his mother encouraging him to continue? Why were they repeatedly saying I love you? Didn’t his mother love his father?
Slowly taking a few steps back, Kuroo bumped into someone. Quickly turning around, he saw the men he was just with looking at him in concern, “Oi, Tetsurou. Ya ‘kay? You look pale-”
One of the members of the small group interrupted, nudging his head towards the tent. “He knows.”
“You knew?” Kuroo's voice cracked, staring at them with betrayal and anger in his eyes.
He watched as they all looked amongst themselves, feeling the guilt of hiding the truth of his mother’s affairs and the general’s deceit. The spokesmen of the group steadily walked up to Kuroo, grabbing his shoulders as he bent down to his level, “I understand you’re hurt but we had to keep it a secret.”
“But what about my father!” Kuroo yelled, shoving the soldier's hands off of him.
“Just keep this a secret Tetsurou,” The soldier's aura quickly changed, a dangerous glint in his eyes, making Kuroo take a step back in shock. “You don’t want the General to get upset, do you? After all the work he put in to train you? If you tell anyone he could stop helping you. You don’t want your future to go to waste too, do you?”
Was it worth giving up on his dream? Kuroo pondered that question as he looked down upon the earth. He spent so much time, so much effort, blood, sweat, and tears through his months of training. The moments where he had brothers who took care of him, who allowed him to laugh with them, eat with them, being part of a family. So was it worth it?
“Good, you're here. Prepare the troop, it’s time-” General Kita stepped out of the tent, putting his sword back on its hilt. “Tetsurou… You’re here.”
Turning around, Kuroo's eyes landed on the figure inside the tent. Seeing a nude body laying on the ground, deathly still. His eyes slowly widened as he quickly realized what had happened. Quickly looking back up at the General, he saw the blood stain on his clothes. Asking himself the question again: Was telling his father worth destroying his dream?
Yes, yes, it was.
Seeing where Kuroo’s eye landed, Kita quickly closed the opening of the tent. Slowly inching closer to him, remaining calm, pretending as if Kuroo didn’t see his mother’s corpse, “Tetsurou, are you here to tell-”
Watching as the young boy bolted before he could finish, the general sighed. “Let him go,” he told his men, seeing as how his men were prepared to run after him. “I already have the information about the rebels. Prepare to raid the village, leave the children alone.” Slamming the door to his home open, frantically scanned the small room, until his eyes landed on his father sitting comfortably in a chair. Kuroo ignored the surprised look on his father's face, not catching the words that fell out of his mouth. Hearing a ringing in his ears, Kuroo thought of how to tell his father. But his head was empty, except for the image of his mother’s stilled body.
“She’s dead,” Was all Kuroo could blurt out.
“…Who’s dead?…”
“Mother,” Kuroo began to weep, feeling his knees hitting the floor. “She’s-she’s…”
“Don’t joke about that!” His father yelled at him, marching to his son.
“She is!” Kuroo yelled back, “I saw her body! General Kita killed her… He killed her…”
From here on, Kuroo didn’t remember much after he confessed to who killed his mother. Feeling the exhaustion of training, finding out about his mother’s affair, witnessing her death, and telling his father, everything became a blur. He didn’t know about the army raiding the village until the next morning, seeing the dead bodies on the ground, and the children mourning the death of their parents.
Those who survived, wanted blood to be spilled by that of the royal family. His father told him, “The army may have lied to us, but it was the royal family who gave the order. Always remember. An eye for an eye. A tooth for a tooth. And life for a life.”
When he heard the news his father was being hanged for crimes against the crown, anger filled his veins. But it disappeared when the queen, as well as the general, were killed during the raid of the castle, but it wasn’t enough to satisfy Kuroo. He wanted the king to feel the loss and hurt he felt when his family died. Nothing would be more satisfying to him than to watch the pain in the king’s eyes as he watches the only thing left he holds dear to his heart in Kuroo’s hand. Years passed and Kuroo was recruited into the rebel army and quickly climbed through the ranks, becoming a commander. With his scheming nature, he became one of the leaders in the army, with Daichi, the general, giving him a task to fulfill: infiltrate the castle and relay information to take down the remaining royal family.
Walking in the market square near the castle, Kuroo replayed the lie to assure he would be allowed in the castle. Told the recruiters he was nothing like his father, that he loved the kingdom, how amazing and genuine the king was, and so on. But when he saw a young lady, covering herself with a robe as she stared at everything as if it was her first time out. Smiling at her amusingly, he watched as a young orphan ran up to her, asking for money. But instead of money, he saw you handed him a ring, making him raise an eyebrow.
Smiling at how the orphan’s face lit up and ran away with his friends, Kuroo remained his eyes on you, seeing how heartwarming you looked at the reaction. But what Kuroo noticed was a group of men stared at you and slowly followed as you walked away. Scoffing at them, Kuroo stared to follow, always prepared to save a damsel in distress.

Growing up after the death of his father, Kita swore to always protect the royal family, especially the princess. Being the princess's guard, Kita always kept watchful of her. But slowly, the King had recognized his strength, and slowly became strong as his late father. So when the king asked to see him in the throne room, Kita wasn’t expecting the words the King told him.
“You want me to be…”
“A general,” the King confirmed. “Just as your father was.”
“But…”
“Your hesitance is about my daughter, is it not?” He mused, watching as Kita nodded his head, confirming his words. “There is no need. I was tempting to keep you watching over my daughter, but other things need to be done.”
With a small gulp, Kita creased his eyebrows in concern, “I understand… But who will watch over the Princess?”
“Before you officially became promoted, I would like you to find someone who you believe is right to protect my daughter,” he ordered, taking a deep breath. “He needs to have the same strength as you, the need to protect others, especially my daughter, as well as she, and I can trust.”
“I understand,” Kita bowed, “I have the perfect one in mind.”
“Not Aran.”
“…I’m sorry?”
“You had Aran in mind,” He mused, shaking his head. “I rather you picked someone else.”
“But he fits the criteria, your majesty.”
“I do wish Aran to protect her. But those twins are always with him,” The king sneered, “, especially that blond one. And I don’t like him around her and how he tries to court her.”
“I-I see…”
“You do not leave until ten more days…” The king hummed thoughtfully. His eyes were downcast as he was deep in thought, rubbing his chin in-between his thumb and pointer finger. With the growing silence in the room, Kita kept his eyes on the king, waiting for his wisdom. With a deep sigh, the king looked back at his most trusted knight, “In your reminding days, I want you to find someone. They do not have to be a knight, I asked he need to fit the requirements I wished, understood?”
“Yes, your majesty,” Bowing his head, Kita turned on his heel and walked out of the throne room. The clanking of his armor echoed down the halls of the castle. His face was stern and no signs of emotion as he ignored the stares of the passing castle workers. His head runs through different candidates who can fill his spot. But he all dismissed them, not filling the full requirements or will make (Y/n) comfortable to have around.
His face showed the tiniest bit of interest when he saw one of your ladies in waiting. Quickly walking over in her direction, he called, “Lady Yachi.”
Not showing his confusion, he watched as she quickly snapped her head in his direction with wide panic eyes before quickly turning around. Slowly walking towards he repeated said her name, watching as her panic grew with each step he took, Kita knew she was hiding something. “Lady Yachi,” He repeated her name when he was behind her. “Where is the Princess?”
Slowly turning to face him, Yachi forges an innocent look on her face as she straightens her posture. Blinking at him in confusion, she gave him a thoughtful look, “The Princess?” Nodding his head once, he heard Yachi gulp, knowing she was growing more nervous. Avoiding his eyes, Yachi slowly repeated his question, “You want to know… Where the Princess is?…”
“Yachi.”
“Yes!” She squealed, looking at him before moving her eyes to look at something behind him. Putting her hands behind her back, she fidgeted with her fingers, pressing down her nails to try and calm her down.
“The Princess,” Kita said sternly, narrowing his eyes slightly at the blonde in front of him. “Where is she?”
“Um,” Yachi hesitated, creasing her eyebrows as she thought. Her mouth opened and closed as she tried to form words. “Wasn’t she… Um… With… You?”
“I left her with you and Lady Kiyoko this morning,” Breathing out in frustration, clenching his jaw, Kita tried to not show how worried and frustrated he was. “Therefore, she is not with me. So where is she?”
“Um…”
“Lady Yachi as her protector I need to know where she is.”
Yachi felt herself shrink as she looked at Kita’s cold brown eyes, his face remained static but she could see his anger rising in his eyes. But she couldn’t tell him where you were. You ordered her not to tell anyone you were at the marketplace and she couldn’t disobey you… But the market could be dangerous. Something could have happened to you and you were supposed to be back.
With her mind running amok, Kita saw how more and more she nervous became. “I will not ask again,” Kita told her firmly. Knowing she was coming to her end.
“She went to the market square,” Yachi said quickly, quilt written on her face as finished her sentence.
“She what?” He growled.
Looking away in fear, Yachi took a step back. She felt Kita’s anger rising as avoided his eyes, wishing she was somewhere far away. Knowing Kita was waiting for an explanation, Yachi quickly mumbled through her words, refusing to look at him, “She wanted to go to the market! We tried to persuade her not to go but she was resistant.” Clicking his tongue, Kita hurriedly turned away, angry muttering curses under his breath as walked through the castle’s ground.

Looking around at the many stalls, your eyes hold amazement as you saw the many different colors of spice, jewelry, fruits, and meats. Each one of them trying to beacon you to them by yelling out what they could offer you. The feeling of overjoy erupt in your chest, and a small giggle escaped past your lips as you pulled yourself through the crowd. Maneuvering through, you took a wrong turning, entering an ally. Slowly walking down the path, you noticed how quiet it became. The loud voices of the crowd became quieter and quieter, and the streets became dirtier and scarier.
But looking ahead, you saw the alley opens back to the market, seeing the crowds of people walking by. Brightening at the sight, you hurried your steps, only to be stopped by a figure blocking your path. “Are ya lost?” The man asked you with a wicked mischievous smile. Taking a step back, your eyes scanned the man and quickly noticed his torn and dirty clothes that filled with an ungodly stench. Forcing yourself to not scrunch your nose up in disgust, you kept your head held to your eye, trying to keep your face, “I know perfectly where I am going.”
“Ya sure ‘bout that?” He mused, taking a step closer to you, smiling wider as you took a step back.
“Perfectly am,” You nodded, your eyes looking back down at each step he grew closer. “Now, if you would excuse me, I should be going,” Turning on your heels, you were stopped when you saw two other men behind you, towering over you as they had the same wicked smile. “Ya know,” the man who was now behind you, hold onto your forearms, slowly raising them to your shoulder as he leaned his head to the side of your head, “we saw what ya the kid.”
Disgusted with his hands on you, you felt shivers running through your body as you feared what might happen. You tried to break free by moving your shoulders out of his hold, but his grip only tighten with a tsk, “Come one, love. I know you have more on ya.”
You turned your head to the side, hating the feeling of his breath so close to your ear. You tried so hard to make some sort of distance, but he firmly kept ahold of your shoulders. “I have no idea what you are referring to,” You stated, hoping he would believe you.
Your eyes widen as you felt his hand quickly latch onto your jaw, jerking your head to face him. “Don’t lie to us,” He brought his face dangerously close to yours. “We saw ya giving’ that kid a shiny gold ring.”
“You must have been confused-”
With an angered huff, he harshly shoved you to the ground, “I said, don’t lie to us!”
You whimpered as you felt your body ache from hitting the ground, the harsh bite of coldness on your palms as you supported yourself. You couldn’t form any coherent thoughts, fear striking through your body, halting you from doing anything.
With an impressed whistle, one of the men bent down to your level and pulled the rest of the hood from your head, “Look at her boss, she’s got a pretty face.”
With him grabbing your jaw, feeling something cold on your neck, your eyes widen in fear as you heard him say, “She can give us a lot more than jewelry.” Feeling his thumb tugging on your bottom lip, he leaned closer to your face, “What ya say?”
“You know,” A voice was heard not far from you and the men were. “You all reek. I can smell how badly you over here and I can only imagine what she’s smelling.”
Your eyes slowly moved to the side, seeing a tall male, not too far from where you were, leaning against the wall of the alley with his arms crossed. You noticed how he glanced at you once, before looking back at the men. Before you could question yourself if he was a foe or not, the man who hold onto your jaw roughly let go, pushing you away.
“Who the hell are you?”
“Me?” The newcomer blinked, pointing at himself, slowly walking towards them. “No one special, just like playing the hero.” “Back off!” One of them yelled, taking a dagger out to point it at him. Immediately stopping in his tracks, the dark hair male eyes widen as he put his hand up in surrender, “A dagger? Wait, no. Anything but a dagger, please.”
Looking at the two others with a humorous smirk, he then proceeded to walk towards the newcomer, swinging it as he went. But before the dagger could put him, the tall male quickly reached his hand and twisted the dagger out of it before kicking the man down. His two partners took a step back, watching their friend groan on the ground in agony. Looking back up, he saw one of the goons rushing towards him. Waiting for the last moment to step out of the way, he stuck his foot out to make the goon trip and stumble onto the ground. Smiling at the impact, he let out a whistle, “Are you okay?”
Hearing the goon groaning, your savior turned to look at you with a charming smile before looking at the last man standing. “I believe this, is where you run now,” he told the final man standing, a smug smirk written on his lips. Quickly, the boss of the goons pushed up the two on the ground before running off, stumbling over their feet as they did so.
Watching the three men running off, you felt the air leaving your lung as you sighed out in relief. Slowly turning your eyes to your savior, you saw how he scoffed at the three, his smirk widening the further they went out of the alley. Feeling your stare on him, he trained his eyes on you. The cockiness of his face barely left when he saw you looking at him in wonder.
Watching him carefully as he walked towards you, he extended a hand down to you, “Are you hurt?”
Not finding your voice, you shooked your head in response, slowly raising your hand and placing it on his. Carefully helping you stand, you noticed how carefully he looked at you. Hesitant with your voice, you mumbled audibly, “I’m fine.”
“She speaks,” he hummed, slowly letting go of your hand. “You’re voice is beautiful as you are.”
Feeling bashful at his comment, you smiled at him tilting your head to the side to not meet his eyes. But you have quickly shifted away from the bashful state when he said, “Wait, your neck.” Looking back at him, he slowly lifts his hands to your chin, carefully moving your head to the side and exposing your neck to him. “You’re bleeding.” “I am?” You lifted your head to touch your neck, feeling the warm liquid. “How bad is it?”
Slowly letting go of your chin, he smiled at you in an assuring manner, “It’s only a small cut, it won’t leave a scar.”
Smiling at him, you nod your head, “Thank you…Um…”
“Kuroo,” He introduced himself to you, “Kuroo Tetsuro.”
“Thank you Kuroo.”
“Anything for you lady…”
“(L/n)-“ You stopped yourself, not wanting to reveal your family name, “(Y/n).
“Anything for you lady (Y/n),” Kuroo smiled widen. “But I must ask, why is a lady like yourself come across here?”
“I lost my way,” You embarrassedly said, feeling the warmness of your cheeks flare-up.
Curious by your words, Kuroo creased his eyebrows, “Have you not, been here before?”
“I have not,” You admitted.
“And what of your escort?”
“I do not have one.”
Silenced fell on the both of you, Kuroo staring at you with his mouth slightly agape into an amazing smile. Quickly as the silence fell, it was broken when Kuroo laughed loudly at you. Feeling more embarrassed at his laughter, you pursed your lips together in a pout. Your cheeks were once again in flames as looked away. Shaking his head as he laughed, it soon died down to a mere humorous chuckle, “I apologize, it’s just… Why would a lady like yourself come to the marketplace without being here before and without an escort? Unless…”
Finding his eyes again, you nod your head with a tight smile, “You’re suspicions are correct.”
“Sneaking away,” he tsked at you teasingly, “I must say, madam, what will your parents say?”
“Nothing I hope, I still wish to explore before my presence is needed.”
“If you would like, Lady (Y/n), I will gladly give you my service,” Offering his arm to you. “You can gladly use me.”
Intrigued by his offer, you were about to accept his arm but linking yours with his, but stop when a feeling of doubt plagued your mind. Having only just met him, you only knew his name and nothing more. Something in the back of your head told you to stay away from him, but when you looked at him and saw how honest he looked, you felt you could trust him.
“Shall we?” His voice cut through your thoughts.
With a deep sigh, you linked your arms through his, “We shall.”
Tumblr media
With Kuroo showing around the marketplace, you had a smile on your face. He explained and answer your question thoroughly about whatever you saw, making jokes and laughing at whatever pleased you. Kuroo introduced you to so many new things and new experiences, that you never wished to leave. Until you both saw men in armor walking by.
Hearing Kuroo clicked his tongue in disgust, you looked up in concern and saw his face scrunched up in annoyance. “Is everything okay?” You asked hesitantly, following his eyesight. Seeing it was a few knights patrolling the city, your eyes widen, ducking your head to avoid them seeing your face.
“It will be soon,” Kuroo tried masking his annoyance. “Let’s take another route.”
“Yes, let’s.”
Kuroo quickly guided you away from the soldiers, you took note of the annoyance in his voice. Away from the soldiers, your curiosity grew, shoulders becoming tense as you remind wondered the possibilities of why. Looking at the arm that was linked through yours, slowly tracing your eyes up to glance at his face before looking back forwards. The unfeeling curiosity of why ran through your head, and just as the saying goes: curiosity killed the cat.
“Why were you scared of the guards?”
Coming to a halt, Kuroo looked down at you with what you assumed was confusion that was filled with disgust. “I’m not scared of them,” He assured, stating as if it was obvious. “I dislike the army.”
“You dislike the army?”
Looking at the direction from which they came, his eyes showed disdained and hatred, remembering a distant memory of what happened many years ago. “Anything that has to do with the royal family, I loathe with my entire existence.”
Slowly unhooking your arm, you suddenly felt cold under the blazing sun. Feeling your mouth getting dry, you blinked in shock as you looked away. “W-what…”
“They’ve done nothing for this kingdom, for this country,” he balled his fist, looking back down at you, “that I why I planned to infiltrate-”
“Why is that?” You stopped him.
Quickly noticing the quick change in your posture and demeanor, he noticed you were no longer relaxed. But more attentive, acting like a noble you were trained to be. Kuroo clicked his tongue, seeing how quick you were to back to your ways after insulting the crown family, thinking of you as a mere follower of the crown. “If you do not know why, then you are not paying attention, princess.”
Princess.
The word rang through your head. Dread that he knew who you were, he only saved you because he knew who you were. And infiltrated? Did he mean the castle? Did he want to kill you just as those men many years ago wanted to do? No longer listening to him, you didn’t know he wasn’t calling you by your title, but rather as a pet name.
“And with the Queen passing years ago, it lifted some hope to the people the family will be-“
Hearing him talk about your mother, you quickly snapped out of your thoughts, “What did you say?”
“The Queen's passing gave hope to the people, it stopped the programs that she was going to pass.”
“The programs,” you felt your anger rising, heated by how he talked about your late mother, “were going to help those out in the rural country. Providing education and medicine to children who need them.”
“Providing?” Kuroo scoffed, crossing his arms, “It would only provide those in a certain economic class. Those who already have ways of getting an education and medicine. And let’s say it did provide it to those who do need medicine and schooling, Lady (Y/n), how would the people receive them?”
“It is provided from their taxes,” You reasoned. “Those who have paid their taxes in full, especially in the districts that fully paid their dues will receive the needs.”
“Fully pay their taxes? And how will they fully pay for their dues with the unreasonable high taxes? Many people in the country, including myself, only worried about when will our next meal will be. The late Queen was ignorant of how people live, but it came to no shock, especially since she only married into the Royal Family for status and money.”
“Take that back.”
“About? You cannot deny what I say is false.” He huffed, annoyed at your philosophy. “Princess hasn’t done anything for the kingdom?”
“So you hope to gain my favor? By saving me and protecting me? Was everything before a ruse set up by you?”
“Gaining your favor? Ruse?”
Before Kuroo could question you any further, a voice called out your title, followed by your name. Watched in a fearful starstruck as your eyes widen in relief, turned around, and rushed to what appeared to be royal knights. Understanding what you meant when questioned him about gaining your favor. The word princess echoed in his ear as you yelled, “Shin!”
“What did I get myself into,” Kuroo whispered to himself, watching as the group of guards circled him, hands ready at their swords.
“Are you all right? Are you harmed?” Kita asked, holding you close by the shoulders as he carefully inspected you. Worried filled as he did so until his eyes landed on your neck, where the small cut stared back at him. Anger filled him as he stared back at it, but before he could question it, you quickly stepped away, assuring him you were fine.
“I promise I’m not harmed,” You smiled at him, relief filling your lungs as you tilt your head to the side to cover the scar. “But he knew who I was,” You whispered to him. “How did he know who I was?”
“That matters not at the moment,” Kita stated, signaling one of his men to escort you. “Take her back to the palace, and explain to his majesty what had happened.”
Panic roared inside as you fought back, “I don’t believe my father should know about this Shinsuke.”
“He harmed you, Princess,” He motioned to your neck, to which you quickly covered it up with your hand. Looking back at the knight, Kita instructed him, “Take the Princess back to the palace and tell his majesty what happened. I will be there soon to give him the full report. Understood?”
With a stern nod of his head, he moves to the side of you, waiting for you to start heading out. But you looked back at Kuroo, see how calculated he was thinking of the situation before looking back at Kita, muttering, “He didn’t hurt me if that was what you were thinking.”
Kita didn’t reply to you, only motioning to start walking. With a small huff, you then started to walk away, leaving Kuroo, Kita, and the knights alone. Watching you walking away and turning a corner away from him, Kita turned to look at the black-haired male. “Arrest him,” He commanded. “For attempt kidnapping the Princess.”
“Kidnapping? I wasn’t trying-“
“Then perhaps harming the Princess should be the better choice?” Kita rosed his eyebrow, challenging him.
“She said it herself, did she not?” Kuroo responded, not fighting back against the two knights holding onto his arms tightly and pushing him further, “I did not harm her.”
“Explain it to his majesty then.”
Tumblr media
Kuroo never expected today to be the day he would meet the King. If he was told the meeting would happen, he would have brought more weaponry, and twice as men with him. But instead of weapons and extra men, Kuroo was on his knees, his hands hanging heavy with the chains around his wrist, in what it seems to be the throne room. Feeling the intense stare of Kita, who stood far in front of him, near the small stairs leading to the throne, where the King sat in anger, and next to him was you, refusing to look at him as you clenched your jaw in annoyance. Assuming the King gave you a stern scolding at you disappearing.
“I heard, you harmed my daughter,” The King’s voice boomed throughout the room, waiting for a response. But after seconds of silence, the Kind hummed, “Well?”
Letting out a deep sigh, Kuroo quickly glanced at you before looking back at the King, finding his courage, “You heard wrong.”
“So you say my trusted knight lied?”
“I’m saying you have not heard the correct story,” Kuroo quickly responded. “The Princess either didn’t tell you or lied about-”
“Lied?” The King let out a humorous laugh, “Very bold of you to say, my daughter, the Princess, lied.”
“Well, she did sneak out of the palace,” Kuroo smirked, amused at how the King’s smile faded away.
With the allowing him to continue speaking on the events, Kuroo told of him the moment he laid his eyes on you, explaining it was him and his bravery that saved you in the alley away, gushing about how marvelous he was and how you awed at his skills, to which you rolled your eyes at him for hearing utter those words. Nonetheless, Kuroo continued to speak freely, with the King listening to every word.
After listening to his words, your father turned his head to look at you, “Is this true?”
“For the most part, yes.”
“I see,” He hummed, looking back at the man kneeling in front of him. “What was your name?”
“Kuroo. Kuroo Tetsurou.”
“And what was your business here at the capital?”
“To join the army.”
The room ranged in silence as the King stared at him intently, calculating what to say next. You looked down at Kuroo, slightly flinched as you noticed his eyes were focused on you. Quickly looking away with annoyance, you looked back at your father waiting to hear his reply. “Unlock his chains.”
Kita and yourself both looked at him questionably, confused as to why he would ask such a thing. “Sire?” Kita asked, making sure he heard correctly.
“Unlock his chains,” He said once again, more authority ruled in his voice. Slowly walking to Kuroo, Kita carefully unlocked the chains, letting them fall on the marble fall with a loud thud. “Now hand him a sword.”
Kita quickly snapped his neck to face the King confused at the command but following it nonetheless. Signaling one of the knights stationed at the corners of the room, they handed Kuroo a sword, to which he gracefully accepted. Holding on to the hilt of the sword, Kuroo inspected the blade, impressed by the craftsmanship. But halted his admiration when the King's voice commanded, “I wish for the two of you to duel.”
With everyone snapping their eyes to the king in bewilderment, you were the one who broke the silence, “A duel? Father, you must be joking…”
“I wish to see how he fights,” your father said amusingly, propping his elbow on the armchair and leaning his chin on his fist. “Now, fight.”
Kita nodded his head at his majesty and unsheathed his sword as he looked back at Kuroo, who was watching him carefully. Both went into a defensive stance, blades at the ready as they slowly circled. The room filled with tension as everyone watched the two, waiting to see what will happen.
You did your best to keep your composure, but you were itching to fidget your fingers in nervousness, scared Kuroo would harm Kita. You kept your eyes trained on Kita, seeing how serious and alert he was. When they both lunged at each other, your breath hitched in your throat, eyes focusing on how the blades hit one another.
Both of their figures move beautifully as they swing the sword, trying their best to disarm each other. Your father kept his eyes trained on Kuroo, watching how calculated he moved, sneaky with his movements, and quiet with his attacks. The more he watched, the more intrigued he was. And with the tempo of the duel changed in favor of Kuroo, your father move to sit fully back into his seat, watching how Kuroo was quick to disarm Kita and making his fall onto his back, the tip of Kuroo’s sword pressed into Kita’s neck.
Kita and Kuroo both breathed deeply, trying to catch their breath after a heated battle. With Kuroo, slowly moving the sword away from Kita’s neck, he holds the sword in one hand while using the other to help Kita stand. But Kita only stared at Kuroo’s hated, refusing to take it.
“Don’t tell me you’re a sore loser?” Kuroo teasingly smirked at him. Kita only narrowed his eyes at him in annoyance, and begrudgingly accepted his hand to help lift him. With Kita on his feet, Kuroo faced the King, his chest heaving heavily as he catch his breath, hiding the annoyance in his voice, “Anything else you would like to see?
Your father only looked at Kuroo, as if he was studying him. He felt your eyes on him, knowing you were trying to anticipate what he was going to do. But he then felt your eyes were back at the prisoner, waiting for his response when your father asked, “Did you believe that was a far fight?”
“No.”
“So quick to answer, as if there was no thought behind it.”
“Because there wasn’t,” Kuroo sighed, trying to control his dislike towards the king.
“And why is that?”
Kuroo looked at Kita, clenching his jaw as he tried his best to hide his growing annoyance. Turning his head back at the king, Kuroo huffed as he saw his majesty waiting for an answer. “His armor was weighing him down, making his moves slowly. I had a better advantage since I was able to move more freely.”
“I see,” The king hummed. “What do you think of the Princess?”
“The Princess?” Kuroo asked slowly, pointing the sword at you.
Letting out a scoff, you looked at your father in bewilderment, confused at the question, “Father, why are you-”
“You may speak freely,” Your father interrupted you, “you will not be punished for what you say.”
A sly smile slowly appeared on Kuroo’s face, moving his eyes to you to see you trying to keep your annoyance at bay. “She’s annoying,” Kuroo proudly said, enjoying how your composure was slowly breaking into annoyance and anger, “very naive as well. Barely understanding the world of politics, especially with little to no knowledge of how the people live. She acts as if this is her first life, amazed and awe at everything. Trust others very easily, not knowing what could happen and dangerous it could be. Also cares so highly of herself. Very draft as well.”
Seeing how your body became tense and your nostrils flare in anger, Kuroo enjoyed every minute of it. While your father only raised an eyebrow, amused at how easily he spoke about you. “I’m started to like you Kuroo Tetsurou,” Your father mused. “Shinsuke, what do you think of his fighting?”
“His skills are advanced,” Kita plainly said, answering his King truthfully. “He knows how to handle a sword. His swordsmanship is the making of a general.”
“I thought so too,” Your father hummed, turnings his head to you next. “What do you think of him, my daughter?”
A smirk appeared on your face after your father asked you the question. You held your head high, making it seem as if you were looking down on Kuroo as you stated, “He’s arrogant, cocky, as well as ignorant to the world of politics. Has no respect for the Royal Family and those who are deceased. As well as a flirt.”
“If I remember correctly, princess,” Kuroo narrowed his eyes at you, “you were flirting with me.”
Scoffing at you, you chuckled at him in disbelief, “As if I would flirt with you? Why would I ever do that?”
“I am devilishly handsome,” Kuroo smirked, sending you a quick wink, “and I did save you in that alleyway.”
“He is also full of himself,” You loudly stated, adding it to the list of what you think of him.
“I’ve heard enough,” Your father's voice boomed, stopping the banter between the two of you. Standing up from his throne, your father looked down at Kuroo, “You said you wished to join the army? Is that correct?”
“It is.”
“Then consider yourself joined,” Your father smiled, offering a hand toward you. Looking at him confusingly, you accepted his hand, “And your assignment will be protecting my daughter from now on.”
“What!” You and Kuroo both exclaimed, baffled at his order.
“Father,” You whispered, “what do you mean?”
Letting go of your hand, your father clapped his hands together happily, “Shinsuke, or should I say, General Kita, has been promoted.”
“Kita?” Kuroo whispered to himself, snapping his neck to look at him in the realization of how he looked familiar.
“He leaves in ten days,” Your father explained, “that way, Kita can properly train Kuroo to best protect you.”
Desperately looking at your father, you tried your best to persuade him, “We barely know him, and why must Shinsuke leave?”
“I know enough about him,” Your father smiled at Kuroo, ignoring the last question you asked. With Kuroo looking back at him, your father’s smiles widen, “I believe it was fated that the two of you met.”
