Idk if I should be asking this and don't know if you aware of this for the past few days, have you seen the trailer of Transformers One yet?
Of course! It looks fun, I look forward to seeing what they'll do with it. The only nitpick I have maybe is that I'm not super crazy about Keegan voicing Bee. I think it sounds too old for the character--but in this universe it seems that Bee is about the same age as Optimus, Elita, and Megatron. Which is wild to me. The character designs, animation, and everything looks pretty neat. I dunno, I don't really have a lot to say lol.
I know the director has stated that this is a completely separate thing from any of the other movies, etc. (though I'm sure a certain producer will insist otherwise but he's delusional, and everyone just wants to be free of bayverse) so we'll just have to wait and see what it brings.

Someone pointed out the kid and Mackenzie both have bent ears
Tumblr media
lol I'm sorry I'm making a bit of fun. (relax, I drew bluekenzie art, of course I'm on his side) Yes, while that is a point in Mackenzie's favor, I don't think it's very concrete in saying that's definitely Mackenzie's kid, because let's not forget all of puppy's features including the bent ear, are found in Bluey's family.
Stripe has a bent ear. All of puppy's colors including the "lavender" color everyone is so keen to call Jean Luc's color I personally don't buy because that is Bluey's shade of dark spots and can also be found in Stripe and Nana/Bluey's patrenal side of the family. All of Puppy's color shades favor the blue heelers.
Do I still think it's Mackenzie's--well optimistically yes. Not just cuz puppy does look like it can be a fluffy border heeler mix, but narratively as well as character wise I think Bluey and Mackenzie are better and more realistically suited (and suspiciously they played Barky Boats right after airing Surprise! But I can take that with a grain of salt)
But for real for real, I think Puppy's features are way too ambiguous and generically blue heeler to draw any actual conclusions unless we get confirmation from the creators themselves--which I highly doubt we'll ever get anthing. And that's fine, cuz you can have your own headcanons about it however you want and that's great.

Doodle cause after the episode Surprise, where I personally see the Bluey's kiddo as hers and Mackenzie's, I just thought "Winton is a master"
(No worries, parents covered their kids' ears at the wedding)

Was reading comments on instagram. And the stark difference between the comments under Steven’s and Shane and Ryan’s posts is crazy. The way people are putting ALL the blame on Steven and babying Ryan and Shane is mindblowing. They might not be the CEOs but they are cofounders of the company. Ain’t no way they didn’t have ANY say in the matter and it’s 100% Steven’s decision.
“Is Steven holding you guys hostage?” “We will support you if you(Ryan) and Shane go off and do something of your own” “this isn’t you” etc
At the end of the day Shane and Ryan are strangers to us, what we see and know about them is what they want us to see. Get a grip and realise that, thanks.

But the entire point of their platform is that they aren't going to be needing any sponsors or advertisers. They want to make content without needing to cater to them so they will have considered that. Again, I'm not saying that they're going to get that amount of subscribers off the bat, but they're hoping for that 1-5% of the 3 million subscribers which would be enough to keep them afloat.
From the looks of their production costs and the number of employees which is debatable if it is necessary for them to spend that much but if they want to keep that up then realistically yeah, their current earnings aren't enough to be sustainable. They admitted in the past that they haven't made a profit (this was probably 2 years in) not sure if they are now but they keep expanding so it makes sense when they say they've hit a wall.
I mentioned they should have explored different avenues of switching over already in the post, as well as cutting back on their production costs before landing on this very drastic and sudden change. Certainly the optics of this to their fans aren't good. And again, we can only see if it will pan out for them. I suspect that if they make any response, if it's not within the next week to backtrack--then it will be maybe within a month or two when they will have seen if they have pulled in the necessary subscribers to evaluate if their gamble worked.
Alright, so I've been a fan of Shane, Ryan and even Steven since their buzzfeed days and I've been watching this whole thing with Watcher moving their content over to their own streaming service debacle.
Like most ppl, I think it's a poor business move to alienate your fans like this, but I've been thinking on it more from maybe a financial perspective. I'm wondering how many people actually signed up for it. I saw a tiktok advertising expert say that the conversion rate for ads--meaning the number of ppl to actually buy something when they see an ad is about 1-5%. Like, right now they have about 2.8 million subscribers. And even though they've lost about 50K since and counting, they probably anticipated some loss. I'm sure they've mathed that if they just get at least like 100K conservatively out of their nearly 3 million fanbase to sign up, they'd be able to make $600K a month from their streaming service at six bucks a pop each month.
Maybe that's worth it? I'm not exactly sure how much they were making before. Ppl say they had 11K subscribers on patreon before but that's just their member total. Actual paid members was about 5K. But despite the controversy, their patreon member count has actually gone up. Today it sits at 12K members total with nearly 6K members paying. So they're making at least $30K-70K+ a month currently on patreon based on their offered tiers. not sure how much they were making on ad revenue alone or sponsors cuz I'm not sure how that stuff works on youtube. But maybe by their own accounting they think the loss of followers was worth it if they can hang on to that small, loyal but paying minority.
Another youtuber has pointed out that if you have a sponsor for a video and it's a one off, it can pay more. Up to $35K. So if that is the peak and they release 1 video a week, so 4 a month would be like 140K a month on sponsor money. And youtube pays about $10 per 1000 views a video, and they average 1 mil each video. So about $40K a month on views. So we can guess that they made about $180K a month currently on youtube (patreon and merch sales not included).
Honestly, if they can reach the goal of 1-5% of their subscribers converting to their streaming platform, yeah they probably would make more money in the long run. IF they can somehow manage to retain as well as grow those number of subscribers on their new platform. And don't forget, they don't plan to delete their current videos on their youtube channel so they'll still be earning revenue from those videos. We'll have to see I guess given how much goodwill they've lost with their audience.
Tbh, I am all for them trying to get paid more for their work but I also think they could have transitioned much differently, like only putting some exclusive content on their own platform while also posting free shows to youtube. Or maybe delaying releases for a week or a month for youtubers. or cutting back your production costs if it's really killing you cuz everyone has pointed out they liked the ghoul boys when it was just a black screen with text scrolling by saying "wheeze." Only time will tell if this move paid off for them.
But I'm not super knowledgeable on how the entire youtube thing works so if someone has some insight, feel free to weigh in.

I finally got around to watching Blue Eye Samurai. Fantastic show; loved the main character, loved the villain.
Honestly could not stand Akemi and ended up skipping most of her scenes. I did laugh at this part though.
