Shaggy wasn’t sure how long he’d been zoning out. His edible had kicked in all at once and suddenly the bedroom ceiling had become the most entertaining scene. When he came back to reality, Madelyn was beside of him, Scooby draped over his legs, and he couldn’t remember the last time he’d felt like everything was so right in the world. He was a simple man. He didn’t need much. And if he really thought about it… “I have everything I could ever want right here.” The statement came out of nowhere, but he’d been thinking about it for a few minutes. Maybe five, maybe ten. Maybe one. Time didn’t matter. Pressing his head against his girlfriend’s, he let out a sigh. He hadn’t said it out loud, had tried to aid his friends any way that he could, but deep down, he knew he was happier than he’d ever been. He didn’t want to go back to the town they’d grown up in, back to his parents’ watchful eyes, back to the expectations and pressure. “Is it… bad that I hope they don’t find a way out?”

Shaggy had never liked the unknown. It was unnerving. He wanted to know what was happening and when, it calmed his anxiety. But recently he’d found the exception. Maybe he was being too compliant, maybe he should be worried about finding an exit like so many others were, but not once since waking up in Evermore had he wanted to leave or figure out why he was here. He had everything he could possibly need. In all honesty, he’d been wanting to get away from town for awhile. Here, a weight had been lifted from his shoulders. Life was better than it had ever been. Even during busy, stressful days at work, he was able to come home to his beautiful girlfriend and his best friend Scoob. What more could a guy ask for? Why would he want to question happiness? Juggling a paper bag in one arm, he unlocked the door with the other, ecstatic to see Madelyn standing nearby when he walked in. He’d only worked half a shift today, and even though he’d just seen her this morning, he was counting down the minutes until he could get back home to her. Couples talked about falling out of love, but he didn’t think he’d ever get over the honeymoon phase, the pure joy that his dream girl could love him back. Losing her after so long would be like losing himself. Worse, even. “Hey Mads, how was your day? We had a whole bunch of nuggets and fries leftover after lunch rush, so they let me bring some home. I snuck in a strawberry pie for you, too. You hungry?”

my favorite thing about scooby doo mystery incorporated is that daphne has 4 identical older sisters named daisy, dawn, dorothy, & delilah who are all perfect and driven (a doctor, model, race car driver and marine) and who all graduated from the local darrow university by the time they were thirteen. in this episode, daphne and her parents are doing a college tour and she says that she doesn’t want to go there and her mom straight up says “a college good enough for the other blake girl isn’t good enough for you?? hahahaha oh daphne sometimes i wish we would have had a boy :)”

Hey, I just saw your post about a Scooby-Doo re-write and I loved it. Actually, I more than loved it. I was raised a lot like the Daphne you’ve drawn up — not exactly, but very close — and reading your description of her actually made me feel unexpectedly warm and seen. That must be very lame to admit, but it’s true. Do you have anything else you could tell me her? Maybe even ghosts aside?

I don't think it's lame at all! There's a soft spot in my heart for people who like... put a lot of energy into skills and interests they can feel themselves getting better at because being good at people is that much scarier, and my take on the Mystery kids themselves kind of take that general idea and plays it out with different adaptations between the kids!

I've compiled my scooby doo ficlets here, and I have a masterpost with links to a lot of asks I've gotten about the gang here, but as for Daphne specifically....

>Daphne actually really respects and admires her sisters, even if it's really hard being seen as a fuckup compared to them a lot of the time. Even though a lot of her sisters have their own stuff going on, sometimes she'll get a flurry of worried texts from her sisters after Velma's posted about a particularly dangerous mystery on their blog. It turns out one of the reasons her sisters are as "brilliant and together" as they are was because they recognized their rich-ass environment was weird and toxic as hell and did everything they could to get out. (Delilah's like 'Sis, you think I would join the Marines if I wanted to stay in Colesville?') And a lot of them feel guilty because that kind of ended up focusing their parents' laser on Daphne.

>Daphne probably reads the least of the Mystery Gang--she does have a soft spot for mindlessly leafing through fashion magazines (hey, she likes cute outfit ideas) but she also has a secret intense love for the Scooby Doo-niverse's equivalent of Red Sonja comics (part bisexual cheesecake, part power fantasy. It's win-win). The gang is 100% down for helping her put together a cosplay of the heroine for an upcoming con when they find out.

>Daphne actually helped Velma a lot with creating a cuter, more navigable layout for Mystery Inc's blog. Fred helped a lot with a bunch of tech-y stuff though, like being able to browse blog posts by monster/haunting types.

>Daphne likes inviting the gang over to the Blake mansion when she has the house to herself. They don't trash the place partying, god no, but holy shit the Blakes have the world's most extensive on-demand TV and movie library that they barely use. Daphne loves combining spa days with binge-a-thons, and the gang is happy to join her for it.
