Responses to “I’m sorry.”
• “For what? Trying to poison me with your bad cooking?”
• “Ummm…you have to be more specific. I’ve got a whole list of things that you should feel sorry about.”
• “Do you really think this is the best time for that?”
• “So you were the traitor.” (Unsurprised)
• “You!” (Surprised)
• “This was a long time coming. I’m just glad that we can part as friends again.”
• “There was nothing you could have done.”
• “I know.”
• “I guess better late than never?”
• “It’s too late. You made your decision.”
• “At least you feel bad about ratting me out. There may still be hope for you.”
• “It’s been so long since you left. I lost count of the days. And now you come back out of nowhere thinking that two words will be enough for you to earn my forgiveness?”
• “No you’re not.”
• “Just get it over with.”
• “Tell you what. If we survive this, we’ll get drinks and all will be forgiven. Deal?”
• “With everything falling apart, I’m just glad to know that there are still decent people out there.”
• “I am too.”
• “None of us wanted that to happen. But the past cannot be undone. All we can do now is try and fix everything in the hope we can save the future.”
• “I wish we had more time together, too.”
• “I have you by my side again. That is enough.”
• “I’m content to be with you one last time. Now, shall we go out with guns blazing?”

On the edge of burnout
Dancing on a cliff
The rocks crumbling away
Far below, the chasm endless
Deeper than any hole or trench.
Treading, foot by foot
Through mud and water
In an endless mire
Sinking slowly
In a futile attempt
To find stable ground.
In the rain
No shade
While the drops fall hard and fast
Threatening to put out
The torch in your hand.

Halfway point, and here is what everything looks like right now
The enclosure wall and northern offering chapel will be provided.
This pyramid is roughly equivalent to the ones built by the Old Kingdom Pharaohs (c.2575-2134 BCE), but knowing this site, the resulting structure may look more like something built during the Middle Kingdom (2040-c.1640 BCE)

OC vs. a cockroach
Thanks for the tag @winglesswriter this looks like a fun one.
Rate your OC on how well they would deal with a cockroach
Characters from A Feather in the Forest
Fen 7/10
Would not be phased by a cockroach at all. Points deducted as he would eat the offending insect if by himself.
Playa 10/10
She finds roaches annoying. Dealing with them all the time means that she is at least capable of shooing them out, or trapping them in a cup and releasing them.
Opal 100/10
As someone who finds all the creations of Al-Gia fascinating, Opal would be calm and collected. She may even decide to keep the roach as a pet.
Ivy 6/10
Ivy doesn’t particularly like insects or spiders (ironic considering she wants to become a hunter, and the forest is full of creepy crawlies). She would grab a broom and try to brush the cockroach out of the room.
Lord Halley -10000/10
He would not be amused by having a roach disturb him. Would try and kill the insect himself…and absolutely wreck whatever room he was in. He would then take his anger out on the nearest bird, before proceeding to smash every piece of furniture he could get his hands (um, wings) on.
Captain Hesper 0/10
Would kill the roach as soon as he spots it. Major point deduction as he would then threaten to report the servants to Lord Halley.

Find the word tag
Shoutout to @kaylinalexanderbooks for the tag.
(Reminder: You are to find the words listed in your WIP(s))
My words were: Strap, small, scratch, study
From A Feather in the Forest ———————————————————————
Strap: “This part of the assessment wouldn’t be so hard if we didn’t have to strap a sack full of rocks to our backs.” Quill quipped.
Small: In need of some sleep, Fen reaches for the music box that stood on the bedside table. It was a small thing, with a plain wooden exterior and a simple silvery key on the side.
Scratch(ed): As it was the height of the molt, Fen also cast aside his cloak and scratched his back against the rugged bark of an old pine.
Study: “Don’t worry about that. I’ll live.” Playa reassured him [Fen]. “I had to study sums, record keeping, and administration. All dull subjects, but there’s not much you can do when you’re the granddaughter of the Tha.”
———————————————————————
I’m leaving this tag open for anyone to find on their own time. To paraphrase a wizard: You are never late. You arrive precisely when you mean to.
Your words are: Echo, whisper, shout, cry

Character voice tag
Shoutout to @the-ellia-west for the tag. Always fun to try these.
(Remember, you are to rewrite the given phrase in the voice of your characters)
My phrase was: Fine, I’ll do it. But this is a really bad idea.
Characters from A Feather in the Forest
[\___/] (.•o •. \———————————————————
Fen: You sure? Remember what happened last time?
Playa: I’m afraid your confidence in me is misplaced.
Rail: You really want to meet Al-Gia this badly, huh?
Ivy: I’ll give it a go…but don’t be surprised if this backfires in the most spectacular way.
Nettle: Me? I’m more likely to make things worse.
Quill: We must be really screwed if you are entrusting this to me.

A simple truth
Money cannot buy happiness, they said
But it can buy the food needed
Pay off the rent
Keep the heat and electricity on
Pay for medical appointments
The medications needed
To keep everything stable
The car, so one can get away
And clothes and shoes
That don’t have holes in them.
I don’t ask for fifteen planes
Gold plated toilets or
A place on the Forbes list
Just enough to insure
I will not have to live in fear
And at the end of the day
There is still enough left over
For me to stop surviving
And to actually live.

OC takeover tag
Shoutout to @mk-writes-stuff and @bard-coded for the open tag. Looks like fun.
What would happen if your ocs took over your phone/blog for the day?
Using several characters from A Feather in the Forest for this. What could possibly go wrong?
Fen- He would love watching nature documentaries…at least until something incorrect comes up, causing him to rant and vent. Would also get a 3 day ban for arguing with ara types. Being a good storyteller, he would post original works and fanfics. Overall, things would go well. Until the ‘low battery’ warning comes on, causing Fen to panic…and drop my phone in water.
Playa- After figuring out how to do videos, she would do live streams about hunting, forest ecology, and other outdoor activities. Searching the internet, Playa would be confused about all the fox images(no apparel? Why are they down on all fours all the time?),end up finding webpages full of furry art…and be traumatized by all the spicy and explicit content.
Opal- As someone who loves music, Opal would spend most of her time on YouTube. Would use the blog to post wellness videos, divination, and ‘behind the scenes’ looks at Fernstan village. Having no time for scammers, she would give them a scalding before blocking and reporting them. Would also be the only one to figure out what a charging cord is and how it works.
Lord Halley- Would spend time looking at nest cam videos, and searching for anything remotely related to eagles (except for golden eagles, he hates them). Might end up a Philadelphia football fan, and would definitely get banned for looking up and trying to share way too much spicy bird art.

Character voice tag
Thanks for the tag @kaylinalexanderbooks That looked like a crazy (and fun) chain. Now the torch is in my hands.
My phrase was: I can’t do that, I have too much work to do.
Characters from A Feather in the Forest
—————||||—-*u*—-|||||———————————-
Fen: I wish I could help. Unfortunately I’ve got my hands full.
Playa: I wish I wasn’t so busy at the moment. Otherwise I would be glad to help you.
Sorrel: Wish I could be of service. Sadly, my duties as a hunter leave me indisposed for the time being.
Caine: Sorry. I’ve got a lot on my plate at the moment. (To himself: it would be a different story if my leg wasn’t bothering me)
Opal: I’m afraid I am quite busy at the moment. You can come back later.
Lord Halley: Don’t bother me. This eyrie won’t run itself. See yourself out before you get on my bad side. Now.
Captain Hesper: Can’t you tell I’m busy? Setting patrols, training recruits, inspections… all of it needs to be done. So stop wasting my time and get out.

Ways to punish crimes that aren’t prison
• A society that doesn’t believe in prisons instead makes all offenders teach middle schoolers (the greater the crime, the longer they have to remain a teacher)
• “Your sentence will be commuted if you can survive listening to the High Priest’s five hour long lecture and sermon about worms, and his new tabletop game (don’t know how they are related, but whatever).”
• All criminals become game show contestants, and the only way to earn their freedom is to win.
• “It’s your choice. Two hours of either Nickleback, Baby Shark, or The Song that Never Ends.”
• Fate is left to the hands of the wheel of (mis)fortune
• All Karens are required to become retail workers for at least a year (cannot quit or intentionally get fired)
• Cut down a tree? Replant it. Illegally knock down a building? You have to rebuild it.
• Criminals must recite a poem about their crimes in the town square. The number of verses is equal to the severity of their crime.
• Can’t pay the fine? Become a street performer in order to pay off your debt.
•Congratulations! You are now in charge of the local animal shelter/ alms house.
Edit: Cannot believe I forgot this one: “The sentence is that you must write the book you’ve been putting off for years now. You must have the final draft completed before you can go free.”

WIP update for WIP Wednesday
Been working on this since the end of December. Things have gone on since then, the story has expanded, and I think it’s time for a (re)introduction.
The Crow and Foxfolk Series
Book 1: A Feather in the Forest (First draft)
Fen was not like the other foxes of the village. He was in fact a crow. All his life, he has lived by one simple rule: keep his identity a secret.
Now approaching the age of independence, Fen finds himself put to the test. Following his dream may mean that his secret will be exposed. What will happen then? Will his friends understand? And what about the community at large, one which harbors long rooted fears and distrust towards the birds?
Book 2: Snow on the Pines (Outline and some stuff from book 1 I thought would work better in its own book)
Strange things are afoot. On both sides of the boundary, foxes and birds have been experiencing a winter like no other. Now that the secret is out, Fen finds himself on the edge of two worlds: one he has grown up in, but which does not fully accept him, and one that he was born into, but is completely unknown to him. At the same time, Playa finds herself thrust into the role of leadership; a role she is woefully unprepared for.
Questions, answers, new allies, and hidden threats lie buried in the snow and beneath the trees. And from across the lake, comes a something the denizens of the forest thought was just a mere myth: [redacted].
Books 3-5(?): Not there yet. Will cross that bridge (and likely burn it) when I get there. Get. The. First. Book. Done. First.
Warnings: Contains blood, violence, mild use of alcohol and hallucinogenics, prejudice, xenophobia, depictions of disease, character death, and deep philosophical questions.
•—— ——— •—•• • •— ••• • •—— ——— ——• • •—•
Intrigued? Ask away. Will do my best to answer, but some things I don’t want to reveal just yet.(Will be tagging everything about this series from this point forward under/with #the crow and foxfolk series)
Edit: I had no idea that this would blow up into something this large. Am I mad? I must be, because I am pressing on until it is fully written.
Edit 2: Please do NOT repost anything written by me. Reblogs are fine, but do not post any and all written works by me without giving credit and obtaining my permission first. I do not wish to appear rude, but the last thing I want is for my work to be stolen. So please be courteous, not just to me, but all writers.
Edit 3: Please inform all writers (not just myself) if any and all writings show up anywhere else without any credit and permission given. The writing community will thank you greatly.
