Ok but am I the only one who wishes the guys had leaned into their accents a little more? IIRC, Gina wanted them to keep their accents and I feel like Luca is the only one who really did, and subsequently his lines have such great flavor. Not that I want Matti to hon hon hon every few seconds, but I wish we had heard more of his and Marwan's accents.

i love the moments where booker and marwans accents are a little more... there, lmao. they all -except luca- sound vaguely american to me and it throws me off since they seem largely based out of europe

…do you think we universally decided Nicky hates English because of Luca having a bit of A Time with it during the promo? (I don’t blame him tbh, English is my only language and it pisses me off daily so anyone who learns it as a non-native language gets nothing but my utmost respect lol, like is that sorta in the comics too or is it just a hc? I saw the other ask about it and went “…so does Luca, reasonably” so I had to ask lol)

its probably a combination of luca Struggling™ in interviews and the fact that nicky has such a strong accent in comparison to the rest of the guard (its a bit funny how he and joe have such different accents despite living in all the same areas presumably)

On the topic of languages with Joe and Nicky: I do love polygot Joe and Nicky having a harder time but then I'm reminded again of Luca speaking german so I just can't believe Nicky having an accent in all his languages. I once read someone saying Nicky just hates the english language and he refuses to adopt the accent which I think is so funny (and with what happened with Quyhn even understandable). I know in real life it's obviously because of Luca but I like these little fanon things.

THE OLD GUARD REVERSE BANG 2022

Hello everyone! This year we’ve decided to kick off with a (reverse) bang! We’re welcoming all artists, writers, betas, cheerleaders and pinch hitters to join in on the fun!

HOW IT WORKS:

Sign-ups are open now (January 29)!!! Artists will have from the Artist Sign-up deadline (February 15) until the Claim Submissions deadline (March 1) to come up with a concept for their art and submit it with a description, as well as some proof of work. Artists can decide whether or not to share the proof of work for claims, but mods at least will need to see some work so we can keep track of what’s going on! This proof can be a sketch, storyboard, thumbnail etc. just so long as the concept is locked in for claims.

The Writer Sign-up deadline is March 1. Once Writer Claims open (March 4), the Writers will see the Artists’ submitted tags and description of the piece and will be able to claim them. Once every art piece has its Writer(s), the mods will connect everyone to their respective partner(s) and the collaboration will begin!

The minimum word count is 7,500 words, and the minimum artwork requirement is 1 art piece. However, there is definitely no maximum, so if you want to write or create more than that - go nuts! The more content the better!

Every work will be finished and ready to post by July 1 2022, so the postings are centered around TOG’s two-year anniversary!

HELLO I have been thinking about language differences and blingual Luca Marinelli's accent and I have a personal anecdote I would like to yell about in your inbox please:

One of the basses in my church choir's husband is from Columbia. The husband is fluent in English--strong accent but perfect grammar and when he doesn't have a word he can describe his way around it. The bass is not as fluent in Spanish. I do not speak Spanish, nor have I studied it, but even I can hear the horrendously American way the bass goes to him and says "Hello mi amor!" (meee uh-more) and LET ME TELL YOU

Without fail, the husband gets the widest grin I have ever seen when he hears this. I don't know if he's genuinely fond of the accent, if it's actually the sight of him and not the words, if it's an inside joke how bad the pronunciation is; maybe the bass is just really bad at languages and the husband loves how hard he tries, I don't know but it is stupid cute.

Anyway: Joe's a polyglot and learns Italian with minimal drama, Nicky can understand most or all of the languages he encounters on a regular basis but the fucking phonemes evade him no matter how much time he spends on it. It's still Joe's favorite thing to listen to Nicky read him his favorite Arabic (or Dutch, one of his native languages) poetry.

fanfic trends like this seem to migrate from fandom to fandom as kind of an amusing, ironic trend. I was in a fandom in the past where there was an infamous and beloved "crab fic", and another where there was an intricately structured "clownfish AU". it's wild.

asdfghjk one of my favorite things is Weird Fandom Shit esp since fandom is such a highly online community and yet (mostly) untouched by Capitalism™ and Marketing™ and such. since fandom spaces are so culturally easy to access & literally anyone can partake in them youd think theyd be more.. homogeneous or bland, but more often than not, fandoms are always so God Damned Weird. and i love that for us
