I may be late to the party but I just realised something.

When Gale ascends to godhood, his chosen name isn’t ‘Gale’. It’s’s Dekarios the Divine (or, at least, that’s what Raphael calls him).

Dekarios. The name he spent most of his adult life hiding because it was too plain. Because it wasn’t grand enough.

And now that he’s finally made it, now that he’s achieved greatness beyond measure, now he adopts it for himself and turns into something worthwhile. Just like he believes he has done with himself.

headcanon where everybody in waterdeep use Gale as a cautionary tale when he left Waterdeep.

Don't be like Gale of waterdeep, the fallen chosen who so egotistical to not listen to his goddess' warnings. The chosen who left waterdeep in shame.

Then the news of him saving baldurs gate makes it to waterdeep and everybody takes a double take that he couldn't have but then they all groan cause he's probably still pompous now he saved a city. Some don't believe it at all how could a fallen chosen save anybody.

They are all secretly waiting and expecting Gale to come back bitter after learning about his fall from grace with Mystra or peacocking with his so called saving of baldur's gate

When Gale finally arrives in Waterdeep alone they are shocked to find a glowing, humble, and besotted wizard who can't stop gushing about his new love. Also he's getting married!
