Ireland votes to keep women in the kitchen this International Women's Day

#it is more complicated than that #but it's mostly just hilarious how badly government misjudged the whole thing #like what were they expecting with their ludicrously uninspiring campaign #and being unable to define half the terms they were trying to introduce #at the end of the day it was purely a matter of principle to change the wording at all #no one would have gained or lost any rights or benefits if it had changed #making it a stand alone referendum was a mistake #it should have been rolled in with the next presidential election or something #at least then you'd get the turnout #this way the yes side just assumed it would go through and didn't bother to vote #case in point my office #all of us agreed that we would have voted yes in both #but I was the only one to actually vote
