so i keep saying i’m back and then i’m not back and i feel like a liar but in my defence, life seems dead set on throwing curveball after curveball and i’m struggling to just keep up with it. i’m trying desperately to get together some semblance of a routine/schedule but it’s proving difficult.

that said, i’ll have a little over a month off work soon becauuuuuuse i’m getting top surgery! 

on the 29th of this month to be exact, three days after my birthday. damn.

so i’ve been prepping for that whilst also going on a trip, working a lot, and losing a loved one, and i haven’t had much time or energy for anything but playing red dead redemption 2. 

but again, i wanna be here! i wanna write! I just... need to find the time.

      It was too little too late when Spike realised that he had given away secret information without meaning to, a fact that mostly irritated him more than anything else. What was it with these people and their damned curiosity? His brow furrowed at her teasing statement, soon followed by a roll of the eyes. “Please. Whether I read or not, I wouldn’t touch those bloody books with a nine foot pole. It’s bad enough knowing what I know from secondhand ramblings. I know the ‘supernatural’ is meant to be kept a secret and all that, but even so, it’s unbelievable how incredibly wrong that portrayal of vampires is.”

      The corner of Spike’s lips quirked upward a bit as he regarded her for a moment. “Hard to believe, almost, but I suppose the things people put value on in this world have always been bizarre.” He went quiet a moment later upon hearing her question. Catching himself, he replied, “I don’t read. Seems a waste of time to me, I get anything I need from the real world.”

      It wasn’t a true response, but what business of hers was it what he read? Actually he preferred to keep it no one’s business but his own, for a variety of different reasons… actually, he hoped he had put the last book he’d been paging through away before she showed up…

The quirk of his lips drew a response in kind, unconsciously matched but for her own reasons. Thera didn’t require or expect anyone to agree with her on the matter - in fact those that did, who knew what they were looking at, could end up being competition. But none of that fell under Spike’s section of ‘need to know’, and she wasn’t going to try convincing him anyway.

More interesting was how quickly Captain Confident went on the defensive, and she nipped the inside of her lip to pretend she hadn’t seen. Or that he hadn’t already given himself away with his protests about the dog-ears. What was the vampire hiding, she wondered. Harlequin? Mills and Boon? An unironic purchase of 50 Shades of Grey? “What happened? Did the Twilight saga put you off for good?”

“Some books are worth more than any Queen’s fine china.” All most people ever learned from a china pattern was to paint flowers and make a fool of themselves on an episode of ‘Antique Roadshow’. “Although …” Reluctantly admitted, “I sometimes need a little bit of convincing about paperbacks, myself.” Those were a mixed lot, mass produced to be disposable, but the principle more or less stood. “What sort of stuff do you read, anyway?”

      Cain tipped his head back to finish the last of his beer; a slow motion, not in any rush - both because he had not needed to act with much haste in centuries, and because he had no desire to approach the subject with any semblance of swiftness. He would have much rather let the subject lie entirely, if he had been honest, but clearly that was not an option. At least not for now, and not with this individual.

      “Ironic, isn’t it,” he said, leaning forward but remaining seated in his armchair as he studied her. “--that you are telling me not to pretend that I understand, while simultaneously pretending yourself that you have any knowledge of whether or not I do.” 

      He gestured at the silver platter on the coffee table, upon which sat the tea set he had kept carefully pristine all these years, brought out only for ‘special occasions’. He hadn’t been sure this was one such occasion - and still wasn’t - but had entertained his own desire to bring the teapot out regardless, brewing mint tea with honey (both from his own garden) for his unexpected guest. “So, firstly - you’re wrong. Secondly, please, drink your tea. It might help unwind you.”

Okay, so... yeah. I’m trying to get active again. (And I’m trying out mun icons again and yes, it’s Gabriel from Supernatural/Richard Speight Jr in general... again. I do what I want.) I’m not making any promises because we all know I’m a disaster disgused as a functioning human adult.

But anyway, I’m working closing shifts tomorrow and Thursday, and have doctors’ appointments on Friday, but the rest of the time I’m gonna try and get back into the groove of things.
