yo lads its been a hot minute huh
Life got the better of me, but here I am.  I got into Final Fantasy XV over quarantine and got inspiration from a fanfiction I read that depicted Ignis Scientia as a harpy, and I just could not for the life of me get it out of my brain.  I think I obsessed over it for like 5 days before finally sitting down and telling my dumbass to draw it before I go apeshit.
I’ve yet to render the actual figure rn because the other bullshit took like 2+ weeks and I’m tired, but thought I might share what I have so far since it will be like 5ever until it’s actually done :> This is going to be in color, I’m just putting the base values down before beginning that stage.
I based the pose and general concept on a French romanticism painting by Jean Auguste Dominique called “La Grande Odalisque” (1814).

For a gift book cover in one of my classes, but I love it enough to put it in my portfolio.  I had a good time making it :)

Japanese Zodiac images meant to be one cohesive design.  It was for a project where we could choose what to do, and for this one I went with tattoos.  Very simple looking ones, but ones meant to stand on their own as well as be brought together.  The word that it’ll spell out in the ancient Kanji means “eternity”.  The dragon gave the most hassle, as there was a lot of parts and details to include in it.  Once or twice I had to redo certain areas to avoid it looking like a disaster.

Book cover and spread illustration for an artist biography, that being Kiki Smith.  I had a blast making these.  It was a lot to do but the results are worth it.  I want to implement the watercolor I used to make the textures in my later paintings, especially for digital work.  I feel like it’ll make what I’m doing much more realistic and stand out rather than spend decades rendering a tree.

Finalized poster for Shakespeare’s 19th sonnet.  Digital, 11x17.  This was the edited version after crit and honestly?  Much better.

For a Shakespeare poster in my book illustration course.  Based on Sonnet 19.  The final is still going through edits after my crit, so once that’s done I will post the completed work.  I really like how it turned out, might put it on my website since it is animal related.  Idk tho :P

Second watercolor piece coming along.  I hate drawing wolves but eh, gotta face the fear somehow.  Hopefully they look like dogs lol that's always been my problem.  They never quite... look right.
I’m praying that I won’t fuck this up.  It’s due on the 18th TT___TT

The painting so far!
Not sure how I feel about watercolor right now.  I’m so used to thicker paints.  I find it hard to control but it’s fun.

Hey y’all!
I’ve been pretty busy and have a lot of artwork to submit, but I can’t at the moment because they are large and I need to find the time to scan them.  In the mean time, here’s a current WIP of a watercolor painting I wanted to do.  I have to figure out a way to do the second one in time for the crit on the 18th, so here is the drawing.  If I fuck up at any point I will just finish it digitally or make the appropriate adjustments.
I have the base colors down for right now.  Watercolor is difficult to control and I’m hoping it won’t take a turn for the worse D:

Assignment for one of my classes. But I like it so much so it's going on my website! We had to combine a tool that was similar to an animal's special abilities. I had the taurus scarab beetle, a type of dung beetle, so I gave this female a garden shovel for a head and rakes for hands. The females dig tunnels underground to lay their eggs and nourish them with dung.
I'm more of an invertabrate person myself, but this makes me want to draw insects more often. They are surprisingly quite fun. I was expecting a headache but was pleasantly surprised.
Ink wash, watercolor for highlights, 5x5"

This was a pain to do but I DID IT YAY
Just an elk, with some ravens. My idea was that it was an old buck going to a valley where the other deer die in the dead of winter.  You know... kid stuff.

All finished!  With minor edits with curves in photoshop because the scan was a little pale-looking.  I wanted to keep the color I used as accurate as I could without cheating, so to speak.  I based these Pyroraptors' plumage on bullfinches, which were native to Southern France where these guys were found.  Used some rubbing alcohol to smooth the colored pencil out a little bit, though it still looks a bit grainy in places.  It’s my first time using rubbing alcohol with colored pencil, mainly because I never knew that was possible!  Thanks Google!
Anyway, here's two bros chillin' in the Mesozoic.
