People think being self aware cancels out mental illness. That when you realise your thoughts or behaviours are irrational you just stop having/doing them

Instead what happens if you're extremely self aware and mentally ill is that you just think in a resigned kind of way "I'm being really fucking crazy right now" while being very loudly mentally ill

Sometimes you are able to tell the people around you "oh, you can ignore me rn. I'm just being extremely mentally ill rn. It will eventually pass" and then continue your erratic behaviour. But mostly it's just privately thinking: "well this is embarrassing but I can't turn it off so just gotta deal with it I guess."

It's infuriating honestly

#ppl who think self awareness should/is supposed to cancel out mental illness think that mental illness is a personal choice #and not an uncontrollable biological trait that you're stuck with regardless of the amount of knowledge you have on the science behind it #self awareness =/= going into the exact line of code in our dna to delete the Mental Illness section #we don't have admin access to that #we can view/identify it but it's physically impossible to edit #you can ADD LINES as a work around (medication/therapy/support/etc) but it's always gonna be there #wierdass metaphor but that's what came to me just now so i'm writing it

Today is Armenian genocide remembrance day. On april 24, 1915 started mass deportations of hundreds of Armenian intelectuals and community leaders, who were (most of the time) eventually killed. Armenian women and children were systematically r//ed and forcibly converted into islam. There were more than 2 milion Armenians in ottoman empire prior to ww1, 1,5 milion of them were viciously killed. Three millennia of Armenian civilaziation in eastern Anatolis was fully destroyed. Turkey today refuses to acknowledge genocides of christian minorities in early 20th century.

Last year in september azerbaijan allied with turkey initiated a war against Armenia. More that 5000 Armenians were murdered, thousands of Armenia families had to live their ancestrial land to not get murdered. There are hundreds of vids on internet where armenian p.o.w.s are tortured. Recently azerbaijan opened a "museum" displayind dead or dying Armenians and kids were allowed to visit it.

I honestly and truly believe all good AUs should be a little “”””ooc”””” in the sense that good characterisation involves understanding that changes a characters backstory and circumstances will have an effect on how they respond to the world around them

Good characterisation isn’t about creating a perfect 1:1 canon replica it’s about understanding why a character is different in your work and about grounding the changes you do deliberately choose to make in canon character traits

#see the thing is when you do this properly it's categorically not ooc anymore #you've done the work to move them along in characterization #now it's just ''timeskip'' or whatever you choose. but in the case of au's this is what marks very well done au's #and what i kinda call Aesthetic au's: just the characters dressed up in both outfit and personality #both types have their purpose and provide their levels of fun and exploration in fandom btw.
