Anakin didn’t sleep most nights, awaiting his trials to become a knight. Each day that passed where Obi-wan ignored that he was ready, blackened another corner of his mind. Other padawans were being knighted- He was better than half of them and they were still knighted before him.

He huffed, twisting his saber in his hand before going through all the katas again. Exhaustion hadn’t begun to prick at his joints, though his eyes were beginning to feel worn out. It had been a long day, in the boring sense.

“You’re off balance.”

Anakin’s head snapped over to land on Ferus, eyes searching for his padawan braid momentarily before he remembered- Ferus was one of the padawan’s that got knighted.

Though… deep down, he couldn’t say Ferus didn’t deserve it. He was smart, knew every form and could use them, and actually listened when his master told him to do something.

None of that stopped Anakin from being jealous. “What do you want?” he snapped, though it didn’t sound as mean as he wanted it to. He was tired, he excused.

“I came to say goodbye,” Ferus said, voice a little quieter than before. “I’m going away for awhile. I don’t know how long I’ll be gone,” he said, Anakin furrowing his eyebrows a bit. “Hell, I don’t even know if I’ll be back,” he added with a chuckle.

Anakin flicked off his saber, crossing his arms over his chest stubbornly. “Why’re you telling me this?” he asked, thinking Ferus must know he wouldn’t care… Why would he care? It’s not like they spent most of their childhood stuffed on a ship together with their masters. Or that they spent handfuls of missions bickering about things- sometimes fondly. No- Anakin wouldn’t care.

He didn’t miss the look of guilt that crossed across Ferus’ face, the expression adding to Anakin’s confusion. “It’s just… Everything I put you through when we were padawans… It’s been pulling at me inside,” he admitted, not even able to meet his gaze anymore. “And after that padawan died… I just- This is my chance at redemption.”

Anakin stayed silent for a few moments, silencing the parts of his mind that screamed it wasn’t fair. This was nothing better than another person being ripped out of his life for good. Ferus wouldn’t come back if he left- So much more stubborn when he had his mind set on something.

And Anakin knew… He didn’t want Ferus to throw away everything he worked towards- Being a Jedi, it’s what they all fought for growing up- If it was the only thing that they could agree on.

“By leaving me forever? You’re going to get redemption?” he asked carefully, stifling the anger that rose in his chest. “What kind of sick, twisted mindset is that, Olin? You get redemption by fixing what you broke, not running away,” he said, shaking his head a bit before grabbing his saber again. “I thought you of all people would know that.”

“I can’t fix what happened on that mission, Anakin, and the order- It’s-”

“I don’t want to hear it,” Anakin said, turning to him again with a glare. “I’m not talking about the padawan- I’m talking about me. What you’ve done to me!” He rested his palm on the flat of his chest, then sighing. “You haven’t even tried to apologize- Really apologize. I’m not going to ruin anything, I’m not evil. I just wanted to get off of Tatooine. I can’t control where it led me.”

He turned away from Ferus, starting back from the beginning on the katas. “And telling me I’m off balance isn’t as helpful as you might think it is,” he added with a huff.

“I know.. I am sorry, Anakin. I was too hard on you when we were younger, when I should’ve set an example,” he said quietly, the words not sounding as pained as Anakin imagined they would be. It sounded like he really cared. “I can’t fix what’s been done, so I’m leaving to avoid causing you more pain.”

“You’re lying,” Anakin said quickly, turning to look at him. “You’re not leaving for me! You’re doing that for yourself, Ferus. Don’t make me feel guilty about it- Or just don’t leave for force sake!” he said, spinning the lightsaber in his hands. “You’re so- Stubborn!”

“And you’re not?” Ferus countered, glaring at him before sighing. “Listen- Fine I’m leaving for myself. Happy?” he asked, running a hand through his hair, seeming a little frustrated. “I don’t want to stay, there’s a whole galaxy out there and I don’t want to be here anymore. The order isn’t what it was before. Things are changing.”

Anakin bit his lip to hold back a retort, meeting his gaze. “The order is changing because of the Sith. It’s our job to be peacekeepers, but you know as well as I do peace can only come through fighting. Is that what you’re afraid of? Someone else dying?”

“Im not afraid of it,” Ferus countered, stepping back towards the door. “I just don’t want to see it again.. so i’m going,” he said, resting a hand on the doorframe. “Goodbye, Anakin. May the force be with you.”

“Bye, then…” Anakin said, pushing down the urge to stop him, to try and talk sense into him. “May the force be with you..”

Can Chan please try to not be so hard on himself? It actually really upsets me. The fact that he thinks he looked too skinny on stage and that he's disappointed with how it looked is pretty upsetting. Plus the fact that he said he just had a lot of water not much food and then before the performance no drink so it would look better. I get it but idk i'd rather never see his chest and have him eat well than do that stuff and not even feel happy with the result.
