Sephikura and 10 for your ask!
(Sorry you aren't feeling well, get well soon and rest up! 💚)
Send me a ship and a number and I’ll tell you...
10. What TV shows they watch together, and which ones they hide from the other
I feel like Sephiroth and Cloud aren't the kind of people to turn something on just to see what's on. If they are watching something its deliberate. So it came recommended or another friend harassed (bullied) one or both of them into watching it.
And even then they aren't really bingers. Even movies they pause partway through because they are just the type to need the right time and lack of distractions to fully enjoy it.
This mindset comes mostly from Sephiroth who is determined to get a good grade in watching TV because that is something healthy to want and possible to achieve. Cloud supports him though because they have to start somewhere. And their discussions about the show afterwards are always fun.
That said, they watch shows painfully slowly and an episode at a time. They enjoy almost everything they watch together. Neither are a huge fan of medical or police dramas (they see enough violence) but they enjoy the comedies Zack recommends. The last the finished was Ted Lasso. They could only handle one episode at a time. It was very funny, but they just had to think through very complicated emotions before the next one. Needless to say, they loved it.
Cloud hides his cooking shows. He is an awful cook and it is a source of shame. He loves watching it though. He wants to be good at it, but he just isn't. So he watches and criticises from afar. Sephiroth makes sure he's not home or in another room and pretends he can't hear Cloud talking to the screen.
Sephiroth hides sports. Not out of shame for liking them, but for how he watches them. He only watches re-runs, preferably retired atheletes. And he watches without sound. He hates commentary. He also doesn't like crowds, but like this he can pretend he is part of one and then also look up the results if the tension gets too high.

For your made up fic title ask!
Glass & Gold
The Materia Host Projects were short lived and would have been scrubbed from ShinRa's history if they could. The idea was very simple: if Materia came from mako of the Planet and the essence of people created the lifestream...then people could be used to make Materia. Like a host for a parasite, except once fully grown the parasite would be extracted and the host little to no worse for wear.
The sad part was the initial project was a success. Low level Materia was easily made and harvested from volunteers. Former hosts even possessed more potent magical propensity. All seemed well. And then the company got greedy.
Hosts for powerful Materia, for new summons never survived. As soon as the Materia was fully formed, they died. Their own life force couldn't sustain both. The company would have washed their hands of the whole thing breathing a sigh of relief that they used wards of the company, orphans with no living relatives, for that portion of the project.
Except one still lived...and they wouldn't die.
Like many things it was Hojo's fault. Cloud Strife fought and clawed their way out of a Materia pod inside the Nibelheim Reactor. Instead of mutating like most of the others, Cloud Strife had the glassy fractal strains lining their chests stating they were forming a Materia. The main bulb was a shimmering gold that flowed in and out with black. It was a completely unexpected reaction especially when it was confirmed who was the summon in the Materia.
Unlike previous summon experiments, Cloud maintained full communication with their materia. They spoke often, though rarely did they agree. Cloud was mostly in control. Mostly.
The Jenova Materia liked to show off that it was...not the easiest Summon to master.
Cloud knows their time is limited, that's why they made the deal with the devil inside them. Jenova offers them access to her power, what has grown so far at least. In return, Cloud will try to find away to separate them before the Materia growth is complete. At that time, Cloud will die and Jenova will be trapped for good inside; finally contained by the planet.
As far as Cloud was concerned, it was a win-win. If they failed they at least lived free for the last bit of life they had. If they succeeded, they would live even if Jenova was now free to wreak havoc on the rest of the world. What Cloud didn't anticipate was how hard it was to keep control with Jenova, espcially after both of them feel a strange kinship with some of ShinRa's most elite Soldiers.

Made up fic title: Blue Moon Banjos
send me a made-up fic title and i’ll tell you what i would write to go with it
Cloud's attempt to join Soldier in Midgar goes awry. He is mugged and roughed up just outside of Junon. What money that wasn't stolen he has to use to get some medical care, but that leaves him in a bind that he is effectively homeless with no way to get back home.
Rhonda the Sherrif of the Junon Underside takes pity on the poor bruised kid. She gives him a loan and asks what sort of things he is good at. He's never fished in his life and, despite how stubborn he is, he is in no shape for mercenary work. Then she asks if he's any good at music. Guitar or the like. Cloud admits his Ma gave him pretty constant music lessons: piano, guitar...banjo.
With that Rhonda gives him a loan and urges him to get to the inn. There is a music troupe there...but they're missing a player. She can get them a concert top plate with the real money, but they'll need a full band. Cloud agrees, with the caveat that he's not that good.
The band hears him out though. He is the only option for the night. He strums with a good rhythm, and he knows all the classics. He's northern, but they're all from the same continent. He tries to get out of banjo, swearing he was never good as Ma. They make him anyway.
They all get quiet as he starts his usual warm-up runs. It becomes quickly obvious that what Cloud thinks is mediocre is actually pretty impressive. The fiddle player in particular is enchanted.
"You're perfect," he said, "you're in. We're bringing country music top plate tonight!"
The concert goes shockingly well. Despite some snickers from military upper echelon the crowd in the bar stays pretty constant. They even get a few requests. Cloud blushes when all the others keep asking if he's good with that. Cloud is mostly shocked at how well he meshes with that fiddle player. He's all over their little stage, never able to sit still, but he always goes back to Cloud and they jam out more than once. They make a killing with tips, more than enough to make up what Cloud lost.
Zack the fiddle player comes up to Cloud after. He asks if Cloud would...consider staying on.
"I mean we're hokey and kind of dweebs, but I had so much fun tonight," Zack says, "I love this music, and I think deep down you do too. You play so well." Cloud isn't sure, but takes Zack's deal. He'll stay on until they get close to Midgar, then he'll actually decide.
"You won't regret it," Zack said, "Welcome to the Backwater Experts!"

I love Unpacking. It's my stress relief game now and I've replayed it so much and in different ways. If they made another game like it I'd be all over it.
It has such powerful environmental storytelling and you feel like you know so much about your character by the end and you honestly feel proud of her.
The other thing that really made the set-up for me is the previous level. You live with roommates. You cannot touch your roommates things. Not even the messy stuff. That's their stuff and you leave it alone. Overall it doesn't matter, because they made room for you. There is plenty of space for your things and it really gives a feeling that they want you here.
Then you get to the boyfriends apartment. His stuff is spread out everywhere. He did not make any space for you. In every room you have to re-organize his stuff so you can fit your stuff. For a little bit you tell yourself that making a relationship work is about compromise and teamwork and you can make this work. Then the diploma shit happens.
And I knew instantly there was no compromise in this relationship. He doesn't care about her at all. He did none of the work and she is compromising to him and that isn't teamwork. Nothing brought me more relief than seeing her old bedroom again.
I hate to bring more spoilers, but in the protagonists next relationship, the partner moves into her place. And the protagonist left more than enough space for them to move into.
I love this game.
i think the single greatest example of environmental storytelling in video games is in Unpacking. it's a game with no dialogue that consists entirely of unpacking your stuff out of moving boxes and placing it into the correct places around the place your character is moving into. there are a lot of subtle storytelling beats, like the same stuffed animal coming with you through every single move, but there's one level in particular that takes place right after your character graduates college and moves in with her boyfriend that goes normally at first.
but then you get to your framed diploma.
you go to hang it on the wall in the kitchen, but there's a bigass painting already there that you can't move (presumably your boyfriends) that takes up the entire wall.
Tumblr media
you go to hang it on the wall in the living room, but there are already a bunch of posters there - again, presumably your boyfriend's. there's clearly space for your diploma if the posters were scooched closer together, but again, you can't even move them.
Tumblr media
with a growing sense of dread and desperation, you move to the bathroom. this room has the only wall space in the apartment for you to hang your diploma: directly over the toilet.
Tumblr media
but if you try to place it there, it gets a red outline, indicating that it's in the "wrong" spot and the level won't finish.
you go to the bedroom.
there is no wall space.
you click under the bed.
Tumblr media
the level finishes.
youtube
the next level has you moving back into your childhood bedroom.

Writer Goal Ask List for a New Year 🎉
🛳 Are there any new ships you want to write for? (Platonic, romantic, or anything in between.)
Fandom-wise, not really. I'm okay being in my cozy place with all my fandoms. I am expanding my platonic stuff though. My new habit is just to make my favorite character ace with my big meaty asexual flippers.
I am hoping to work more on my own original works though.
