@monthly-challenge
@thisbibliomaniac our girl does it in STYLE
Prompt Seven: Pink
Fandom: Original Fiction Roy Chester
Rating: Gen
Characters: Elinor
Pairings: None
~
Elinor always checks her waistband before she goes out for the night. Inside a tiny leather satchel she keeps the tools of her trade: glass cutting knives, diamond tipped incisors, delicately-spelled steel lockpicks, little gold loops, charms and caltrops and an assortment of items with no discernible shape or usage. The bundle clinks satisfyingly against her skin as she tucks the whole ensemble into the waist of her voluminous, rose-satiny dress.
Tonight, she robs the Palace of Newark. And she’s going to look absolutely stunning in a floor-length pink gown while she does so.

@thisbibliomaniac they are LOOKING
Prompt Six: Rainbow
Fandom: Original Fiction Roy Chester
Rating: Gen
Characters: Tule, Sola
Pairings: RoyEl (vaguely in the distance)
~
The Festival of Roses is in full swing when a freak storm sends the revelers darting for shelter. Tule and Sola find cover under the large tent of a pastry booth. They laugh and shake water from their curls and skirts as the rain splashes into puddles at their feet.
”Look there,” Tule says suddenly, joggling her friend’s elbow. Sola whips around from sneaking a pastry from a low shelf and peers into the rain at the flower booth a few stalls down.
”Oh!” She gasps in delight. “Is that—Roy?”
Tule waggles her dark eyebrows. “Your favorite. You know it.”
”He is not! He is very nice but not my type.”
”You know he is.”
”I like redheads,” Sola says, aggrieved. “And men with freckles. And farm boys. That man is a thief and a scoundrel.”
”As you are!”
”Opposites attract!”
They giggle as the baker eyes them suspiciously. Sola sends him an innocent smile and covertly tucks her ill-gotten goods into her pocket.
”Oh!” Tule shoves an elbow into her side. “He’s talking to Elinor!”
”Is he?” Sola pretends to be disinterested. “And what are they saying?”
”Something something. He’s apologizing. She doesn’t look happy! Now he’s offering her something shiny. He must have stolen it.”
”The best gifts are always stolen.”
”Hush, you fiend. Oh ho ho ho! That’s a large diamond.”
Sola whips around to stare. As if on cue, both Roy and Elinor turn in their direction. Tule grins and waves. Sola blushes and pulls her head over her damp hair.
”You minx,” Tule teases her. “You do like him!”
”I do not!”
Sola sticks her foot into a growing puddle and splashes Tule’s lovely white kid boots. With a shriek, Tule lunges at her and Sola darts into the rain, dancing away with a laugh and a swirl of her dark skirts. Overhead, a faint, warbling rainbow begins to stretch itself over the edge of the fading clouds.

@thisbibliomaniac the silly fools at it again
Prompt Four: Flower
Fandom: Original Work: Roy Chester
Rating: Gen
Characters: Roy Chester, Elinor
Pairings: RoyEl
~
“I have enough help for today, so you can run along,” Elinor tells him that morning.
Roy, stuffed into a corner behind the bar with a pair of scissors and a heap of hothouse roses, looks up at her, aggrieved. “But I just got started!”
”You came in late,” she reminds him. “I don’t give privileges to late comers.”
He is, of course, still there at closing time. A neat row of de-thorned roses sits next to the well-worn shears, and his head rests on the counter. His gentle snores stir the delicate green leaves.
Elinor pauses in her trek to the back room, a basket of daisies on one hip, and sighs at the sight of him.
”Silly fool,” she mutters to herself. “What’s he waiting around for, anyway?” She stumps down the stairs as Roy slumbers on, blissfully content.

Prompt Two: Green
Fandom: Original Fiction Roy Chester
Rating: Gen
Characters: Sola, Mixta, Glister, Tule
Pairings: None
~
Sola and Mixta hover like butterflies over the piles of silk and lace on display while Tule and Glister seek out more practical fabric: denim, khaki, wool. They pick through the different bolts of material meticulously checking for prices.
”This one holds luck spells well,” Glister says as she checks a tag. “But it’s pricey and I’ve only got a half talent to spare.”
”How about this?” Tule unwinds a bolt of sea-green cotton print and holds it up. “Good for luck spells and on sale.”
Glister runs her hands along the fabric. Her fingers leave behind faint traces of silver dust. “It’s nice,” she declares. “Let’s take it.”
