Christmas Shopping A Little Early
UNITED STATES—We’re being told to start Christmas shopping a bit earlier this year because of rising prices as a result of inflation and the possible shortage of goods. Well, let me tell you America, I normally do begin my Christmas shopping around August each year, but this year I started a bit later, like in the last week or so. It just hadn’t been on my mind and then suddenly, you keep hearing this panic and it almost puts you in a panic.
I had to stop and think, is there really a shortage on goods? I mean the few retailers that I have visited I have NOT seen any shortage of goods, if anything I was surprised to see HOW stocked with goods they were. Especially toys and that is a good thing for me considering my nieces are at that perfect age where it’s actually fun to purchase toys for them. I actually got great deals on all the items that I purchased, but it did force me to question, is this a terrific marketing tactic to get consumers to spend money on goods?
The answer to that question is YES! I was actually stunned how busy one of the local malls I visited the past weekend was. I was under the impression that something crazy was going on because I couldn’t understand why it was so busy so early in the day. It was either the fact that everyone had money (I did forget about that Child Credit payment that was being issued to a lot of taxpayers) or there was a massive sale going on that I had no clue about.
Long story short, people were spending money and the icing on the cake was the fact that plenty of the retailers I visited actually had some strong sales. When I say that I mean it! Anytime you can get a perfume or cologne set that normally clocks in at $100, and it’s on sale for $25 that is a steal. A $70 hoodie for only $20? Sign me up America. I use to be a big proponent of waiting to do my Xmas shopping until Black Friday. If you don’t know what that day is it is right after Thanksgiving and its considered the biggest shopping day of the year, where many retailers in the red would go into the black (they’d make massive profits people).
For me, it is tradition in our family, we’d eat, we’d sleep a little then we’d shop all day. Yeah, exhausting and busy holiday weekend to say the least America. With that said, I’m all about getting a good sale, so the more money I can save the more money I have for things later. One thing that is certain the price on goods has risen America, even if you think it hasn’t it has and I have come to the realization if I see something I like you get it while you see it.
Don’t be indecisive, don’t sit back and wait hoping for the item to go on sale at a later date. If you do, you will indeed regret it people and that’s on you. Right now clothing at some stores are offering some stellar deals, but something I never used to do I’ve started to do a lot more: shopping online. I prefer to purchase goods in stores because I want to see what I am buying. However, you get better deals online than in stores a lot of the time. The great thing transpiring is the fact that now you can purchase items online have them shipped to the store and don’t have to worry about those pesky shipping fees. Yes, it is indeed something I absolutely adore people.
The general gist is the big shopping season of the year is upon us, it doesn’t hurt to start a little early. You don’t want to be that person stressed and worried about trying to buy gifts at the last minute. That is a level of stress no one needs especially in the midst of a pandemic.

Nina Reeves Arrested On “General Hospital!”
HOLLYWOOD—I hate when characters attempt to moonlight as martyrs in the soap opera arena, I feel like I am seeing that more than ever right now on every single soap on the air right now, “The Young and the Restless,” “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “Days of Our Lives” and worst of all right now “General Hospital.” It seems like every single character on this soap loves to judge people when they do bad things, not acknowledging the misdeeds they have committed in the past.
This brings me to the tale of the hour of Michael Corinthos having Nina Reeves arrested for fraud and identity theft. Yeah, these charges make absolutely no sense, not whatsoever. When did Nina commit fraud, and whose identity did she steal? It looks like Michael’s power play is going to cause some serious issues in his relationship with Willow moving forward. Willow sees the worth in acknowledging what Nina did was wrong, but they’ve all done horrid things. Um, Michael do you recall that you murdered Claudia Zacchara. Yeah, you took someone’s life, even though it was self-defense, you still killed someone.
That death, just gave me a great story idea if the writers of “GH” somehow considered the return of a new face from the Zacchara clan arriving in Port Charles to seek vengeance against Michael and his family. Willow was not happy with Michael’s stunt, Carly, is ecstatic with the result, but when isn’t this woman? Carly’s current predicament is the result of her keeping that secret about Nelle being Nina’s daughter, and I don’t feel sorry for her one bit. You have to reap what you sew, and that is something Carly has never endured people, never.
She is worried about her marriage to Sonny and rightfully so. He has lingering feelings for Nina that has not been disclosed to Carly yet, even though Ava is attempting to use that to her advantage in a custody battle for Avery. Let’s talk about two more hypocrites in Ava Jerome and Nikolas Cassadine. Ava murdered Connie in cold-blood, got away with it, and then swapped the pills of Morgan Corinthos causing his bipolar disorder to spiral leading to his presumed death (we still haven’t found or seen a body people).
This is the LAST WOMAN, who should attempt to teach someone a lesson. Her hatred for her daughter Kiki sleeping with Griffin, led to her sleeping with serial killer Ryan Chamberlain, who later murdered Kiki. Yes, Ava, you trying to teach Spencer a lesson is the last thing you should be doing. If anything you should be repenting to the powers that be. Nope, she’s gloating, she is on cloud nine, and not realizing her world could come crashing down any day and I sense that is going to happen when Nikolas is exposed and the threat of Ryan Chamberlain returns in an devastating way.
Esme is playing with fire interning at that facility that Ryan is at, and something tells me there are things about Esme’s past that are about to come to light that is going to explode in epic, and I mean epic fashion people. Nikolas has every reason to spite the wicked stepmother, who helped Valentin keep his father away from him so she could regain her face back after what she did to Morgan was exposed. Spencer plans to make Ava pay, and like father like son. I cannot wait until the chickens come home to roost against Nikolas for his role in shooting Hayden Barnes and framing Shawn for it. Nikolas knows the walls are about to close in and something tells me Spencer will be the one to discover the truth and deliver the nail to his father, just as Ava attempts to manipulate Nina and Sonny aka Mike’s relationship to her advantage. Ava and Nikolas need a taste of humble pie, and I think it’s headed their way, but the outcome is going to have rippled effects on their lives they never expected.
Spencer is out of jail and working with his cousin Cameron, while living with Kevin. Austin was forced to drop his claim to the Quartermaine fortune after Brook Lynn exposed his diagnosis of Leo, much to Olivia’s dismay. Something tells me Austin is going to learn the truth about Bailey being Maxie’s daughter and all hell is about to break loose. I mean Brook Lynn is doing a bit much, getting in tiffs with the wrong people who can blow her world apart, like Gladys of all people. Gosh, I cannot stand Gladys, why is this woman still pivotal on the show. Maybe her latest blackmail stunt leads to her demise because it is long overdue at this point. Finn and Elizabeth continue to grow closer, just as rumblings seem to point to the return of Elizabeth and Hayden’s father. A man we haven’t seen in the flesh in a very, and I mean very long time people.
Another hot button narrative we need to touch on involves Valentin, Peter, Drew and Victor Cassadine. Victor confessed that Valentin is his son to Robert, Anna, Drew and Sam. Sam and Drew were surprised to come face-to-face with Britt and Jason in Greece. So what that means is the tension is thick, but if we’re being honest, Sam and Jason being kaput is the best things the writers could have done. Drew is still programmed under Peter’s spell and they kidnapped Liesl, for reasons the audience still hasn’t figured out. Peter is enjoying his villain status to full effect, which means his time is indeed short-lived on the soap.
Anna and Valentin have gotten so much closer, and Victor is manipulating as much as possible to ensure he doesn’t face any charges. This is intriguing, because Nikolas’ world is about to explode as a result of a double whammy, Victor and Valentin’s return, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Valentin wanted to deliver the kicker to Nikolas after he blew his world to bits with Nina. With November sweeps literally transpiring in a few days I think things are about to kick-off in epic fashion and I’m ready for it people.

Secrets Unravel On “Days Of Our Lives!”
HOLLYWOOD—The Devil is not messing around on “Days of Our Lives” as his plot to possess Marlena Evans is underway and things are getting dicey. Marlena has finally allowed the Devil to possess her and as a result, the only person who seems to sense something is off with Marlena is her hubby, John Black. Unfortunately for John, that spelt major trouble. I must admit it is indeed iconic to have “DOOL” to revisit this captivating storyline all these years later with special effects that are going to be way more iconic this time around than last time.
John ultimately discovered the truth about Marlena and it resulted in him being knocked out cold and being stashed in the one place that everyone seems to hidden, the DiMera tunnels. Johnny should have heeded Allie and Chanel’s advice, but nope. His cast is in place including Abigail, Chad, EJ, Chanel and Allie and it is now resulting in utter chaos as filming is about to get underway people. This brings us to a new development involving Justin, Bonnie, Gwen and Xander’s predicament. Little does Justin and Xander realize that Victor is working behind the scenes to establish a deal with District Attorney Melinda Trask to get them released.
That deal involves the wicked villainess Kristen DiMera. That is right America, Kristen DiMera is back in Salem to cause more havoc. I mean people don’t realize the last time in Salem, Kristen did so much damage, I mean damage that has placed a ton of the chaos currently transpiring in Salem in play. If Kristen hadn’t made move to make Sarah Horton vanish, a lot of the things Xander did, like hooking up with Chanel, sleeping with Nicole, hooking up with Gwen would have never taken place people.
Victor plans to utilize Kristen’s arrest as a way to free Justin and Xander, as for Bonnie and Gwen, he could care less. Which is why Gwen’s predicament is NOT good because Abigail knows her sister is hiding something big and her thinking cap has been activated so much to the point that she is starting to dig to find the truth. When it comes to Kristen only one person knows her whereabouts, EJ, but her decision to come back to Salem and try to see Rachel proved detrimental. Steve and Kayla’s little plan to manipulate EJ
She was spotted by Brady who turned her in to the authorities and let the theatrics play out America. I still cannot believe Nicole and EJ are giving it another go, I cannot wait till Sami returns to the foray and unleashes hell when she discovers her husband and mortal enemy are hooking up. Sami has been gone way too long, so it’s time for her to swoop in and unleash a bit of hell people. There is also the buzz about Rex’s return and a bomb that changes Xander’s world people one involving Sarah’s ‘disappearance’ on her wedding day.
That is not the end of the drama people, romance could be brewing between Kate and Roman again (I always like those two together to begin with). Not to mention Abe was shot courtesy of Jake and a tussle with the Vitali mob family. Damn, its hard to believe James Reynolds has been on the soap for 40 years people! He was celebrated in iconic fashion this week highlighting moments with his great love Lexi Carver-DiMera. Abe pulled through, but that bomb that Paulina is keeping is getting closer and closer to coming out meaning, Lani’s world, and Abe’s with certainty will explode when he learns that Lani is NOT his daughter. Oh, Paulina you are in for a reckoning.
Last, but not least, Jake and Gabi might have some leverage against Philip and Ava now that their plot to expose Jake for murder has backfired. Imagine how Rafe will feel when he learns what Ava did to his little sister. Gabi is no saint people, put she’s still Rafe’s blood, so that is going to destroy their relationship and point him in the direction of Nicole Walker who is eyeing EJ DiMera. Things are about to get messy just in time for November on “Days of Our Lives” people!

Finding A Work Balance
UNITED STATES—It is hard people, we can say all the time that it is so easy to find a work/life balance. We are told countless times we have to find a balance between work and our personal lives. However, it seems more and more our focus is all work and very little play. Why? Why is that? What can we be doing to change things a bit?
Well, we have to acknowledge that we’re more focus on work than our personal lives. You sometimes have to acknowledge that you work too much and you have to ask why? Are you working so much for financial reasons or are you working to compensate for something else? Like a lack of a social life. It is very possible and the fact that you KNOW that you’re working so much to compensate for something else should be an alarming sign.
So if you notice the issue there is a way to fix it. Try to find a way to cut off when it comes to work. That is something I have indeed struggled with in life, but I have indeed gotten better. I mean I would go months close to a year without taking a vacation at work. I had to ask myself why? Well, there was no one to cover my shift, but in addition, it got to the point that no matter what, there was never anyone to fill in for me. So should I just keep working to the point where I fall out, get so exhausted that I’m not able to recover? Of course, not and you sometimes just have to let it be known, I NEED some time off. I need to personally consider my needs and wants over my job.
Any company that has an issue with that, especially if you’re a hard worker that should raise an eyebrow or two for you because one person shouldn’t be expected to do it all and if you are doing it all it just leads to bigger problems in in the long run. You start to have a bit of angst in the workplace and that angst could impact your work and affect those who you work with.
So take a break and when I say take a break I mean that. Take a break! Do not answer your phone if you’re on vacation, do not answer emails, do NOT fill obligated to work when you’re not scheduled to work. If you’re working while you’re on vacation are you truly on vacation America? No, no you’re not and the company you work for benefits from your work load, whereas you lose in the long run because the body doesn’t get the opportunity to fully recover as you need it to be people.
I’m starting to realize as I get older, when you find a balance between work and your personal life, you find a gem of peace and happiness. It is not just about the body getting a moment of relaxation you get a moment of self-reflection. What is important, what isn’t important and how to put focus where things matter most and taking care of other things as time allows. Life is not all about work people, it is something we need to take more seriously.

What Is Your Go To Halloween Scary Movie?
HOLLYWOOD—When it comes to horror what is your go to scary movie? Is it a classic, something modern, something camp, an iconic villain, I think we can chat about this for hours if not days because everyone has their own cup of tea when it comes to horror. Some might like the supernatural, some might like ghost tales, the haunted house, zombies or wait, you might like the classic slasher that involves a madman going on a killing spree. Whatever your cup of tea, it’s time to examine some classics people.
If we truly want a classic monster movie, you have to go back to the 1930s and take a look at “Frankenstein.” It is the tale of a scientist who goes mad to create a monster and once that monster stops following the rules of the scientist it costs the creator greatly in the long run. Those horror flicks like “Dracula,” “Nosferatu,” “The Mummy” and countless others of the 30s-50s had more messages of morality tales.
We started to see a change in the genre in 1960 as a courtesy of Alfred Hitchcock and “Psycho.” Now some might argue it led to the slasher craze, but not quite, there was a film before that one called “Peeping Tom” that created that Point of View camera technique used by Bob Clark in “Black Christmas” (we’ll talk more about it later) and John Carpenter’s 1978 classic “Halloween.”
I love “Psycho” because it’s in black and white and forces you to get hooked onto the narrative, not other things. In addition, you have a focus on Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins) and the iconic Marion Crane (Janet Leigh). I mean, a major character dies half-way into the movie and that shower scene? It is just iconic America. We move into the 70s and we see horror really ramp up. There is “Black Christmas” that changes the genre as we know it. Christmas is supposed to be joyous, but not when you have a killer inside the house making nefarious phone calls and threatening a group of sorority sisters. The tension this movie builds is incredible and that scene where Jess realizes the killer is in the house and she screams for Barb and Phyllis to answer her, just chilling.
We cannot forget how scary the Devil and possession can be with the iconic and I mean iconic “The Exorcist.” A flick that should NOT be remade, but Hollywood is doing it anyway. I just cannot explain it people. There is “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” which made torture porn before it became a term. The filming technique used in that flick just sends chills because the realism is too scary. “Carrie” the 1976 version makes the audience empathize with the title character who endures terrible bullying until she unleashes utter hell on her classmates at the prom. The 1975 Steven Spielberg classic, “Jaws” made you afraid to get into the water, “The Omen” was all about bad children and the Devil and then we had “Halloween.”
This is my go to flick I can watch it multiple times during the month of October because the suspense is so amazing. Slowly builds and reaches a climax and ending that is just damn satisfying to say the least. Michael Myers is an iconic villain, we establish an amazing heroine in Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and Donald Pleasance is just a gem and the dialogue of this movie is just phenomenal. There is another classic in 1979 helmed by director Ridley Scott, “Alien.” This is how you build suspense people. Scott is a masterclass at doing this and with a creature that has an epic defense mechanism and stalks the crew who understands the danger they are in. Sigourney Weaver proves women can be badass in space and that reveal that Ash is a robot, the alien bursting through Kane’s chest, talk about a gasp people.
The 1980s is just horror riddled on top of horror so there is no way I’m highlighting all just a few classics. There is the 1980 classic “Friday the 13th” that usher the slasher genre in terms of epic gore and later introduced us to hockey-mask fiend Jason Voorhees. There is the dream stalker Freddy Krueger from “A Nightmare on Elm Street.” I loved the sequel “Aliens” that proved a sequel can be better than the original. I adored the enchanting narrative of Clive Barker’s “Hellraiser” introducing the audience to iconic villain Pinhead. You have an evil doll in Chucky from the original “Child’s Play” from 1988, which is just like a My Buddy doll I had as a kid.
The 90s was truly the drag of horror until 1996 brought us “Scream” that poked fun at horror, but still managed to be horrifying at the same time. Another flick that doesn’t get the horror praise it deserves is the 1999 thriller “The Sixth Sense” that delivered the best twist in horror ever. There is NOT a single person in the movie theater who did not gasp when it was revealed that Bruce Willis’ character was dead all along. Has never been replicated and it never will be America.
The 2000s ushered in remake chaos and the only worthy one in my opinion was the 2003 hit “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” that was a massive improvement over the original. When it comes to supernatural the 2002 hit “The Ring” leaves utter chills with a smart narrative and twist at the end that will knock your socks off. “Saw,” the 2004 gore fest that it is, introduced fell fledge torture porn, but also delivered a satisfying ending with a smart twist. The last 10 years I cannot highlight many standout horror flicks because I would love to chat about a great haunted house movie, but they just don’t make it. The only one that comes to mind is “The Conjuring” and its 2016 sequel “The Conjuring 2” which I thought was an exceptional sequel and it found a way to make you question the home you live in and who may have lived their prior to you.
In addition, the 2018 remake/sequel “Halloween” was a hit because it introduced Michael Myers to a new audience and the narrative really worked its sequel “Halloween Kills” not so much. As we enter 2022, the only flick at the moment that might change the genre yet again is the one that changed things in 1996, as “Scream” returns for its fifth installment people. I know I will not be the only person indulging in a bit of a horror marathon this holiday weekend as we celebrate Halloween. That is no pun to the actual film people, but you cannot watch a scary movie without watching the movie that everyone feels defines the holiday in all of its classic glory.  “I mean its Halloween; everyone is entitled to one good scare.”

Get Rid Of It People, Declutter Your Life!
UNITED STATES—Clutter, clutter people, we talk about it all the time and I’m realizing once you get things organized and in order, it just makes your life so much easier. This past week I did a massive and I mean massive overhaul of the basement. There were things in the furnace room, the laundry room, the closets, and just all over the place that needed to be addressed.
I found things that I didn’t even know I had. So what did I do? Tossed, kept and donated. There were so many things that I just did not need so I got rid of them. What am I keeping this for? Is it bringing me joy? No, it is not brining me joy in any fashion its taking up space so its needs to go. I don’t think I used so many large black trash bags in my life, but the aftermath was glorious.
Why? I realized how much more space I had in my home. Closets that were just full of things, I could actually walk into and see what I actually had. In addition, I was able to declutter other places in the home that were building with items and move them to other places to open up more space into the home. The frustrating thing about cleaning up clutter you’re forced to realize money you wastefully spent, things that you didn’t know that you had that are in near mint condition, but items that you could give to others who might need it and could actually use it.
The garbage can did not enjoy the loads of trash that will have to be picked up this week. Tiresome, yes without a doubt, but the biggest thing about decluttering your home is that you have to open your eyes to the fact that you might be a hoarder. You want to keep something simply because you purchased it. Guess what? No, no, you can’t do that successfully. You have to let things go. It might sting to do it, but it is the only way to truly rid the home of things that just take up space and for so many of us, there is just lots of things taking up space in the home that need to go. Now, not later, get rid of it right now to bring a bit of calm to your arena.

“Survivor 41” Recap: ‘Ready To Play Like A Lion’
HOLLYWOOD—So the merge, it has been the moment fans of “Survivor 41” have been eyeing for weeks and it happened sort of with a major twist on the latest episode, ‘Ready to Play Like a Lion.’ How so? The level of twists this season just keeps on coming people and it might have reached a level of overload if I’m being honest. So we are giving a twist within a twist with this merge, where there is NO TRIBAL this time, but the contestants will battle some will be left out and someone will gain an advantage that totally shapes the game as we know. Now you have to earn your way into the merge people, how crazy is that.
One team gets safety at the merge, one does not, they have to compete for safety in the next immunity challenge. Then on top of that we have a draw where two people will NOT compete and then the winning team will determine who is safe and the other person will be sent off. My head is literally spinning right now because of this twist it’s too much.
Shan and Ricard had a lot of tension. So the trust between these two is so fractured and might not be good moving forward. Yase seem to be united, however, Liana still does NOT trust Xander, and with Luvu, Naseer wants to keep the 6 strong, but that is not what DeShawn wants. So we have two teams of 5, Yellow (Heather, Xander, Liana, Shan, Tiffany) and Blue (DeShawn, Danny, Ricard, Sydney and Evvie) and Naseer and Erika’s fates to be determined.
So it was Blue in the lead, Yellow battled, but Blue edged out the victory; they were safe for now. With all the twists this season, something crazy is about to flip this game upside down people. So Blue had to choose between Erika and Naseer, one would eat, one would be sent to an isolated island with nothing for 2 days (they don’t know that person gets an advantage). Naseer was joining the merge feast, but Erica was not looking happy people. Little do they know Erika has an advantage coming and it could shake the game in an epic way and I like that angle.
Cannot believe that we are ONLY on Day 12 people, the pace is quite fast. Ricard and Evvie were fishing for information about Luvu’s connection with Erika and Danny was worried about a gender balance and he was focused on sending a woman home, particularly Erika, which if the editing tells us anything that is NOT going to happen. So the audience is finally getting a bit of a story for Erika who seemed invisible up to this point, but again “Survivor” knows a way to tug at your heart and make you empathize with characters that you want to root for.
Gosh this is a very loaded episode, so much to the point that we needed two hours. Back at the Luvu camp, Tiffany was paranoid as ever, starting to doubt Liana because she didn’t immediately share her advantage with her. Liana didn’t like that she was forced to share her advantage with Shan and Tiffany. The more you share the more dangerous it becomes. Xander bonded with Naseer noting that he was the only guy who could be eligible to be voted out.
Danny was really pushing Erika, which I know it will not work. Evvie, Sydney and Tiffany wanted to target Erika, but little do they know what Erika’s advantage in the game could be. Something tells me it is a game changer people. Shan went with the majority and she knew something. It was apparent Shan, Liana, Danny and Deshawn wanted to work together and to be honest, we just witnessed epic gameplay with a Black alliance with The Cookout on “Big Brother 23” who changed the game as we know it. Rather these four can do the same thing is to be determined.
When Jeff Probst noted there was no vote out in this week’s episode, I thought he might be lying, but he wasn’t which means next week has to be a double boot or at least 2 hours. Erika was surprised to see Jeff arrive and this is where the latest twist in the game came into effect. Jeff informed Erika she had tremendous power in the game, an hourglass. So she can leave the game in its natural state or she can go back in time and change history to change the outcome of yesterday’s challenge. By doing so, she forces the team with immunity to have to compete for safety and those who lost to gain immunity, which totally changes everything. She had just a day before leaving the island to make the decision. Of course, we get a cliffhanger, but we all know what is coming.
Erika would be an idiot not to reverse the game because you become safe. If the majority of your tribe sent you to exile why do you care? It wouldn’t even need to think about it. I’m safe and the people who sent me here are NO LONGER safe. Let’s shake this game to the core, of course the producers want this twist to cause ripples in the game people. I’m certain this is a “Survivor” first where we had an episode where no one was voted out, so next week “Survivor 41” better make up for this week’s episode.

Medicare Part D Penalty Costs What??
UNITED STATES—Hello Toni: I made a terrible mistake last April when I was no longer covered by my employer group health plan due to retiring. I had a telemarketing agent help me find a Medicare Supplement which began April 1, 2021. No one told me that I had a specific amount of time to enroll in my Medicare Part D plan. I have a serious health issue with Crohn’s disease and should have enrolled at that time for my Medicare Part D.
When I enrolled in July for a new Medicare Part D plan, I was denied because did I not apply on time. I take Stelara which is over $2,000 a month that I now must pay on my own. I now am 70 years old and was informed that my Part D penalty for not enrolling in a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan will be $.3306 X 60 months since my Part A began 5 years ago. I cannot believe that I must pay an extra $19.84 per month as a Part D penalty.
Please explain this ridiculous Medicare Part D penalty and please tell me I can enroll during this Medicare Annual Enrollment period. I have not purchased my Stelara in the last few months. Thank You, Sydney from Atlanta, GA.
Sydney: Good News!! You can enroll in your Medicare Part D plan that covers your expensive Stelara and other prescriptions that you are currently taking during Medicare’s Annual Enrollment period from October 15-December 7. Your effective date will be January 1, 2022, and you can go purchase your Stelara on New Year’s Day, if your pharmacy is open. If not, then January 2.
You are aware that you waited too long to apply for a Medicare Part D plan. Once you are past 65 and/or leaving creditable coverage, Medicare gives you 63, not 70 or 90, days to apply for a Medicare Part D or Medicare Advantage plan with prescription drug coverage.
Your late enrollment period (LEP) did not begin from the day you left your company health plan, BUT from the month your Medicare Part A began not when your Medicare Part B began.
The LEP (late enrollment period) penalty for Medicare Part D can be because:
1)       You waited past 63 days without creditable prescription drug coverage when you are leaving company benefits and you are older than 65 years old and 90 days. Don’t wait past 63 days to get Part D when leaving company health plans!
2)       Your company prescription drug benefits (not health benefits) are not creditable as Medicare declares.
3)       You simply never enrolled in Medicare Part D when you were first eligible and want to enroll.
Sydney, you were denied Medicare Part D prescription coverage because you did not follow Medicare’s LEP (late enrollment penalty) rule and will receive a Part D penalty when you enroll during Medicare’s Annual Enrollment period.
Americans retiring after 65, that are leaving company health plans and applying for Medicare Parts A and B, must also prove they have “creditable coverage” when applying for a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan.

“The Oval” Recap: ‘The Mole’
HOLLYWOOD—Well, well, it looks like Victoria is no longer the power player that she used to be on “The Oval.” The latest episode, ‘The Mole’ saw these two ladies go toe-to-toe and I adored every single second of it. Victoria Franklin told Priscilla she was fired, but Priscilla who dealt with so much mess stood her ground and threats were issued. Looks like Priscilla knows all about Victoria’s fear of her father.
Well someone has been dropping secrets, but I never considered Priscilla as the culprit, but it makes perfect sense the more I think about it. Hunter interrupted just as Priscilla was about to exit. Oh, the level of drama people and we’re only 5 minutes into the episode. Victoria tried to throw Priscilla under the bus, but the loyal house maid played the role to perfection. Richard attempted to get Priscilla to take the night off, and it seemed Priscilla had Intel she was not ready to disclose to everyone else.
Lilly checked on Bobby in the attic, to ensure he was safe before Kyle and Donald showed up to grill her on what she was doing on the computer. Ok, this is some bad acting here people. Awkward and not as fluid as one would expect. Victoria used Sam to remove his wife from The White House, but it was apparent that Priscilla per usual knows more about the inner workings than people can imagine. Yeah, Priscilla seems to be very close to Victoria’s father, who phoned her directly and made it clear that Priscilla was NOT GOING ANYWHERE! Ok, this is not only impressive, but makes me root for Priscilla that much more. This girl has massive ammunition that is a game changer on the woman who has made her life a living hell lately.
Blakely was concerned that she hasn’t heard from Martin, as Max attempted to calm his pal down who has been spiraling. Victoria returned to bed angrier than ever, letting Hunter know that Priscilla knows her father. Victoria was worried that Hunter might be planning to make a move against her father. Sam was not pleased that Priscilla has been keeping secrets from him. Allan confronted Donald about not being blunt about Ellie sleeping with the President of the United States and he played dumb, not realizing his protégé was well aware what his girlfriend was doing.
Allan called out Donald about his relationship with Kyle. Donald attempted to play dumb, but it was apparent Allan was well aware is taking place. Donald thought Allan was flirting with him, to which Allan did not think he was doing at all. This scene between Barry and Nancy was pointless people; I have no clue where this narrative is headed. Allan was getting ready to leave and wanted Ellie to tag along, but she refused. Jason wanted clarification on why Allan struck him over the head and the kid tried to reason with his actions, but Allan was in no mood at all. He made it crystal clear that Jason is NOT his pal; he ensured Jason realized that they’re not buddies and Jason issued a veiled threat.
Allan chose to warn Ellie to be careful because Jason is running around and could be on the prowl. Allan is speaking plenty of truth, but no one wants to listen to him. Donald confronted Lilly about using his laptop and why she didn’t seem too concerned about him nearly being assassinated. Dale seemed to be out of it, as Sharon clued him in that it seemed like the bullets in the shooting did not cause serious damage to his body. Dale broke down in tears realizing that he has no family.
Sharon took a call from Barry who wanted to chat with his ex, and he apologized for his actions. I was rooting for these two in the beginning, but I feel she is better suited with Kareem people. Barry and his jealous side just doesn’t suit Sharon people. Allan arrived home and there was an intruder who delivered one hell of a kick, as promised by Victoria she delivered on her threat. Each episode so far this season has been a thrill a second people and I love it. Till next week “The Oval” fanatics!

Fatal Film Tragedy!
HOLLYWOOD—The film industry is shocked and saddened about what happened last week on the set of “Rust” in New Mexico. Many production companies still use guns-real guns- when filming, according to published reports. Despite rules and regulations, people can get killed, as what we saw happen last week when Alec Baldwin fatally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins after he was handed a weapon and told it was safe. The fatal tragedy has led some in Hollywood, along with other observers and groups to protest and ask: Why are real guns used on set, when computers these days can create gunshots in post-production?
The assistant director of “Rust,” Dave Halls, had been taken off a previous production over gun safety violations. According to a press agency, discussing Halls prior production job, it was confirmed he had been dismissed back in 2019. The incident occurred after a crew member, incurred a minor and temporary injury when a gun was unexpectedly discharged, the statement indicated.
This is by no means no suggestion that Halls was at fault for the “Rust” incident. Halls was removed from the set immediately after the prop gun discharged. Production did not resume filming until Dave was off-site. An incident report was taken and filed at that time.  An affidavit filed over the “Rust,” incident said Halls had handed the gun to Alec Baldwin during a rehearsal and called out “cold gun,” as he did so, meaning the weapon had no live ammunition. According to the affidavit, the assistant Halls did not know live rounds were in the prop gun.
Investigators, as of press time, are hoping that an analysis of ballistic evidence will shed some light on what kind of projectile was fired from the gun and how it got there. The director Joel Souza was injured when the revolver that Baldwin was using during rehearsal discharged. No charges have been brought yet. Prior to the incident, camera operators had walked off the set to protest against working conditions.
According to the Associated Press, the US federal workplace safety agency doesn’t regulate gun safety on set, and many states leave it to the industry to create and follow its own rules. Calls have been made for more safety on the movie production set in light of Hutchins death although investigations are ongoing. Let’s look at a list of suggested rules that is published by the Industry-Wide Labor Management Safety Committee.
It’s advice includes: Blanks can kill. Treat all firearms as though they are loaded; refrain from pointing a firearm at yourself or anyone else; Never place your finger on the trigger unless you’re ready to shoot; anyone involved in using an firearm must be thoroughly briefly at on-set safety meeting; only a qualified person should load a firearm; protective shields, eye and hearing protection should be used by anyone in close proximity or the line of fire; any actor who is required to stand near the line of fire should be allowed to witness the loading of the firearms. While the committee points out the guidelines, they are not binding laws or regulations, it appears the last time the guidelines were revised was in 2003, according to Professor Leonard from Chapman University in California.
Warner Bros film studio has published its own weaponry rules, while the Actors Equity Association has advice for performers. Tragic incidents like the one on the set of “Rust,” are very rare. In fact, I believe that the last fatal prop gun accident occurred back in 1993. The son of Bruce Lee, Brandon Bruce Lee, 28, the time was also killed in an on-set with a prop gun. The gun was supposed to fire a blank, but an autopsy showed he had a bullet lodged next to his spine. Civil lawsuits will likely be in the “millions  and millions” of dollars for the producers.
Rose’s Scoop: Congratulations to Lisa Clemens, a screenwriter of the 2018 horror film “Delirium,” who was trending horror trending on Hulu. Wishing everyone a happy, safe Halloween!

ISA Certified Arborists Know Trees
UNITED STATES—Arborists are horticulturists. They just happen to be more specialized than most. Many or most other horticulturists work with flora that they engage from the ground. Arborists work exclusively with trees. Some must leave the ground to do so. The most experienced and educated arborists are those certified by the International Society of Arboriculture or ISA.
ISA certification requires an arborist to pass an examination of arboricultural proficiency. Continued participation with ISA endorsed classes, workshops or seminars is necessary to maintain certification afterward. Arboricultural industries are demanding, with stringent professional standards. Certification with such industries is correspondingly demanding.
General information about the International Society of Arboriculture is available online at isa-arbor.com. This site, although designed for arboricultural professionals, is informative  also for those who must procure the services of an arborist. The directory of ISA certified arborists can identify local arborists, as well as the tree services with which they affiliate.
There is a timely reason for this concern about arborists.
Although arboriculture is pertinent throughout the year, it seems to become more so with the first storms of autumn. Some trees prefer dormant pruning during winter. Others might perform best after summer pruning. Various trees have various preferences. Regardless, the need for arboriculture becomes apparent as weather breaks limbs and uproots trees.
Trees are innately the most substantial and relatively permanent plants in home gardens and landscapes. Unlike annuals and some perennials, trees are not disposable, or easy to remove if they become too problematic. Many eventually get too big for those who are not experienced arborists to engage. That is why too many trees need professional help.
Many municipalities require permits for the removal of significant trees. Inspection by ISA certified arborists, and associated reports, are generally prerequisites for the issuance of these removal permits. Some municipalities are more protective of trees than others. ISA certified arborists try to be familiar with the ordinances of the various municipalities in which they work.
Highlight: Curly Willow
They start out simply enough, as weirdly twisted bare stems in fancy floral arrangements. By the time the last flowers fade, the submerged parts of these bare stems develop roots and perhaps leaves. These now rooted cuttings then graduate into pots or gardens. Most curly willow, Salix matsudana ‘Tortuosa’, is therefore unplanned. It is rare from nurseries.
Mature trees should not get much taller than 15 feet, with awkwardly irregular branch structure. Regular pruning and grooming eliminates congested and structurally deficient growth. Alternatively, pollarding or coppicing during winter dormancy promotes vigorous growth. Healthy trees can drop overburdened limbs, and might live for only 20 years.
Curly willow, which is also corkscrew willow, is popular more for distinctively curly stems than as a small deciduous shade tree. Specimens that provide such stems for cutting do not need to be very big. If cut and dried while dormant during winter, stems can not grow roots in water. Nor will they require plucking to remove their leaves, which are also curly.

Vehicle Triage Center At Candlestick Park Approved
SAN FRANCISCO—The Mayor of San Francisco, San Francisco Board of Supervisor Shamann Walton and the California Department of Public Works announced on Thursday, October 21 the approval of a Vehicle Triage Center (VTC) at the Candlestick Point State Recreation Area’s (SRA) Park Boat Launch Parking Lot. The new program aims to provide a secure location and services for people living in their vehicles in close proximity to Candlestick Point SRA. The authorizing resolution was approved by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors on October 19, and by the California State Lands Commission on Thursday, October 21.
According to a news release from the Mayor’s Office, the Vehicle Triage Center will include up to 150 parking spaces for up to 177 people, 24/7 staffing and security, lighting, electricity, bathrooms, mobile shower facilities, potable water, and mobile blackwater pumping services. The VTC will provide people living in their vehicles in the immediate area with a safe place to park and live and access to services designated to help stabilize their lives through health care, housing, employment, or other interventions that meet their unique needs.
“As we continue to move forward with our historic Homelessness Recovery Plan and work to get people off the streets, we must find solutions for our unhoused population living in their RVs or in their cars,” said Mayor Breed. “This Vehicle Triage Center will provide individuals with a safe place to sleep, regular access to stabilizing services, and an opportunity to move forward on their path out of homelessness.”
“This vehicle triage center will bring badly-needed security, services, and hygiene facilities to the Candlestick Point Recreation Area,” said Assemblymember David Chiu (D-San Francisco). “The center will improve conditions for all Candlestick Point residents and help connect those living in their vehicles to permanent housing solutions. I was happy to work with community members and city leaders to help secure funding in our state’s budget to make this project a reality.”
“The COVID-19 pandemic has caused many negative impacts and the number of people who are unhoused has been exacerbated as a direct result. Many people have been forced to live in their vehicles as our shelter capacity is down and the lack of available affordable housing,” said Board of Supervisors President Walton. “The number of people living in their vehicles around the old Candlestick Park has created a situation that needs immediate and direct attention. The Vehicle Triage Center will provide a space for this population to live in dignity, while addressing concerns of the surrounding community. We cannot ignore the need for support and this compassionate response will resolve a lot of expressed concerns. I want to thank the community, California Department of Parks and City leadership for stepping up and providing a solution that benefits all.”
“Vehicular homelessness is a growing issue in our community,” said Shireen McSpadden, Executive Director, San Francisco Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing. “The VTC offers a real opportunity to move people out of encampments and into a safe location where they can access services and transition out of homelessness.”
San Francisco’s Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing (HSH) is expected to contract with a nonprofit organization to operate and provide services at the Candlestick Point VTC. HSH is in the process of choosing an operator and service provider for this project. The operator/service provider will be determined based on their expertise working with people experiencing homelessness and expertise in managing shelters and/or Vehicle Triage Centers.
The proposed VTC is intended to be temporary, and the city of San Francisco is negotiating a two-year lease with California State Parks.

Jefferson Streetscape Improvements Project Completed
SAN FRANCISCO—On Friday, October 22, the Mayor of San Francisco and San Francisco Board of Supervisor Aaron Peskin joined community leaders and city officials for a ceremonial ribbon cutting to mark the completion of Phase II of the Jefferson Streetscape Improvements Project, which concludes the full suite of improvements along Jefferson Street from Powell to Hyde Streets. The improvements increase pedestrian and bike safety and enhance the travel experience along the historic Fisherman’s Wharf corridor.
The Office of the Mayor indicated in a news release that Phase II of the streetscape improvements, which had a budget of $16.3 million, renovated blocks of Jefferson Street from Jones Street to Powell Street, incorporating numerous changes to improve the experience for people walking and biking. Upgrades include widened sidewalks, new lighting and landscaping, expanded seating, and bicycle parking. Jefferson Street was narrowed and poured with alternating concrete bands to help calm vehicle traffic.
Planning and design of the project started over a decade ago as part of the Fisherman’s Wharf Public Realm Plan. Phase I transformed the two blocks of Jefferson Street from Hyde Street to Jones Street and was completed in June 2013 with a budget of $4.95 million.
“We are thrilled to celebrate the completion of the Jefferson Streetscape improvements and the transformation of this area into a safer, more inviting, and pedestrian-focused corridor,” said Mayor London Breed. “I’m excited to see this area revitalized, thriving, and ready to welcome back locals and visitors from around the world.”
“My office is proud to have partnered and worked closely with Public Works and the Fisherman’s Wharf community over the past few years to help secure funding for this critical pedestrian safety and beautification project,” said Supervisor Peskin, who represents Fisherman’s Wharf. “While battered by the pandemic over the past year and a half, Fisherman’s Wharf continues to be an iconic San Francisco destination that welcomes visitors from across the globe, helps drive our local hospitality industry economy and generates jobs for San Francisco and Bay Area residents. The completed waterfront promenade stands ready to welcome visitors just in time for the holidays.”
San Francisco Public Works managed the construction of the project that started in 2019 and ran throughout San Francisco’s Stay-at-Home Order. Numerous safety measures were incorporated to ensure the project was completed with minimal impact to the Fisherman’s Wharf corridor and surrounding area. Key partners of the multiagency collaboration included the Port of San Francisco, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, Caltrans, the San Francisco County Transportation Authority, and San Francisco Planning.
“I applaud all of our City partners, project team and construction crews that continued to work closely together throughout the health crisis to safely deliver a major project while much of the City and world was on pause,” said Interim Public Works Director Carla Short. “The project team utilized a time when many businesses were forced to close to complete the most disruptive construction activity. This ensured that any construction impact would be minimal once businesses resumed operations and were ready to welcome back locals and out-of-town visitors.”
“The Jefferson Street improvements will make Fisherman’s Wharf more inviting and accessible for residents and visitors,” said Elaine Forbes, Executive Director of the Port of San Francisco.  “This project and its numerous infrastructure improvements will ensure this uniquely San Francisco destination is around for generations more to enjoy.”
“Fisherman’s Wharf is a global attraction and world-class destination that now has the infrastructure to support all of its visitors as San Francisco’s economy recovers from the pandemic,” said Jeff Tumlin, Director of Transportation, San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency. “The Jefferson streetscape improvements allowed us to rethink the street to prioritize pedestrians and those who bike and scoot and to activate the public space to create a safer and more welcoming corridor for the residents and travelers who visit the area.”
The Fisherman’s Wharf Community Benefit District was a key community partner.
“Now that we’re once again welcoming visitors, we look forward to holding events in the beautiful new plaza flex space under the renowned Fisherman’s Wharf sign here at Jefferson and Taylor,” said Randall Scott, Executive Director, Fisherman’s Wharf Community Benefit District.
The project was funded by the California State SB1 Gas Tax, the San Francisco Public Works’ General Fund for Streetscape and Paving Program improvements, the SFMTA Transportation and Road Improvement General Obligation Bond, Proposition K sales tax revenue, and the San Francisco Port’s General Fund.
Additional project details can be found at www.sfpublicworks.org/jefferson.

Abigail Hotel Reopening As Permanent Housing
SAN FRANCISCO—It was announced on Monday, October 25 by the Mayor of San Francisco and the Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing (HSH) that the city, in partnership with Tenderloin Housing Clinic (THC), is reopening the Abigail Hotel as a Step Up Housing site. The hotel will provide 59 units of housing for adults successfully transitioning from Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) to affordable housing, with a more independent living model.
“Throughout the pandemic, San Francisco has provided emergency housing and shelter for thousands of unhoused people, and as we continue to move forward with our City’s recovery, we need to do all that we can to ensure that those same people have access to permanent housing,” said Mayor London Breed. “We know that housing is the solution to homelessness, and the Abigail Hotel will provide people with histories of homelessness with a permanent place to live and will allow people newly transitioning off the streets access to supportive housing.”
The Mayor’s Office indicated in a press release that the Abigail Hotel was one of the first Shelter-In-Place (SIP) sites opened during the COVID-19 Pandemic, sheltering Transitional Aged Youth (TAY). It was demobilized as a SIP site on June 30, to transition to its current status as a Step Up Housing site. All rooms at the Abigail have a private bathroom, and the building includes a spacious lobby and community room as well as a state-of-the-art kitchen. Tenderloin Housing Clinic will manage the site, offering case management services five days a week for the independent living residents.
“It’s exciting to see another of the SIP Hotels continue to be a part of the city’s long-term strategy to help keep all of our residents housed,” said District 6 SF Board of Supervisor Matt Haney. “The Abigail Hotel will provide step up housing for those who have graduated from permanent supportive housing and can live more independently. By providing more of these housing opportunities for our city’s most vulnerable residents, we are establishing an essential piece of the framework that will help us finally get a handle on our homelessness crisis.”
“We are excited to transition The Abigail Hotel to step up housing,” said San Francisco Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing executive director, Shireen McSpadden. “As people progress into step up housing they free up much needed spots in permanent supportive housing for vulnerable people in need of their first home or first home in a long time.”
“This opening marks the historic return of the Abigail Hotel to permanent housing for low-income San Franciscans,” said Randy Shaw, executive director of Tenderloin Housing Clinic. “Forty years ago, tenants fought to keep the Abigail an affordable, residential SRO. Thanks to Mayor Breed and HSH their mission has now been accomplished.”
Step Up Housing is part of the City’s Homeless Response System, and offers opportunities for residents of Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) to move from intensive supportive housing to independent living. By joining the program, tenants make their PSH unit available for other people experiencing homelessness. San Francisco currently operates nearly 400 units of Step Up Housing for adults and families.
For more details on San Francisco’s Homeless Response System, and the Housing Ladder Program, visit: hsh.sfgov.org/services/the-homelessness-response-system/housing-ladder/.
The reopening of the Abigail Hotel is part of the Mayor’s plan to address homelessness in San Francisco, where the strategy includes her Homelessness Recovery Plan. That plan will expand the City’s Homelessness Response System and seek to acquire or lease 1,500 new units of PSH in the next two years, the largest one-time expansion in the City in 20 years. “Insecure” Kicks-Off Its Final Season!
HOLLYWOOD—It has seemed like forever since I talked about the one TV series that forced me to indulge in binge-watching. I’m referring to the HBO comedy “Insecure.” The series is the brain-child of actress and writer Issa Rae, and it is phenomenal TV for those of you who have NEVER watched it. Self-deprecating, sensational comedic timing, truthful in ways you don’t want to hear and full of unique characters, the show kicked off Sunday night with its fifth and final season.
The premiere episode, ‘Reunited, Okay?!’ saw viewers finally see the reunion of Issa and Lawrence back together, only to be thrown a loop with the reveal that Lawrence got Condola pregnant. I knew it, I hoped it wasn’t going to happen, but it is where we stand people. In addition, we saw the relationship between Issa and Molly fracture to new points. I’ll be honest, I’ve never been a fan of Molly; the character is just damn annoying. A know it all, who just has to prove her worth at all times. Ugh, that sounds a bit like me people, maybe that’s why it is such a bad character trait. Things kicked off with Tiffany and her hubby back in a great place; as Kelli tagged along as a third wheel. However, we all learned that Tiffany, her husband, Kelli, Issa and Molly were attending their 10 year college reunion at Stanford, where they all met.  It was apparent that Molly’s breakup and Issa’s situation with Lawrence was the talk of the town people.
It was interesting, because you don’t hear people talk about college reunions. You just hear about high school reunions. It was a hilarious moment when Kelli and her pals discovered that the school thought she had died. That was indeed a belly laugh I absolutely needed people. What? Is this Taja V Simpson, who plays Priscilla on “The Oval?” Yes that is indeed her, a past friend of Kelli, Issa and Molly, here name being Cheyenne. Molly ran into an old flame, one who tried to charm her.
So Issa was forced to reflect on dreams she wanted to accomplish, many that never came to fruition. When tough questions were posed, it forced Issa to wonder the directions he is taking in her life. Molly and Issa continued to work on their relationship by sitting, chatting and drinking about their many problems in life. Ugh, I want the Issa and Molly that I remember from season one, two and three; this awkwardness from them is SO HARD TO WATCH!
Kellie was struggling with the fact that everyone considered her a joke, however, the night turned crazy when Issa, Molly and their former pal got robbed at a gas station. What the hell? The ladies were stunned that their pal, Cheyenne was a criminal. The robber was her boy toy. She stole their shoes, purses and expensive jewelry. Wow, wow that was damn wicked people. The fact that Issa and Molly bust out in laughter after being robbed; it left me laughing. It just tells you the friendship between these women is one that is unbreakable.
Of course, the final moments of the premiere episode would bring viewers back to the storylines that we saw eclipsed in the season four finale. Issa and Lawrence still in a relationship, Molly considering a hair change, Tiffany embracing motherhood, and Kelli considering a podcast. I knew this was coming, Issa decided she wanted to end her relationship with Lawrence in the midst of him having a child with Condola. Damn that was heartbreaking. After all the obstacles these two have endured this is how it ends. C’mon, there has to be more people. “Insecure” airs new episodes every Sunday at 10 p.m. on HBO.
