Cryptocurrency mining on Pi Zero
Hi guys here’s some short instructions how how to mine with the Raspberry Pi Zero. It won’t be very efficient! But can be done for fun and learning purposes.
Begin by heading over to https://minergate.com/ a mining pool where many users work together  combining their computing resources. Each member of the pool is rewarded based on the amount of good work they’ve done. With a slice taken off the top of the pool’s organizers.
Load your Raspberry Pi, and then enter in the following commands into terminal or use SSH from a remote computer.
Begin by updating the OS.
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade -y
Then we install the software.
sudo apt-get install -qy automake autoconf pkg-config libcurl4-openssl-dev libssl-dev libjansson-dev libgmp-dev make g++ git
Next we clone the GitHub software cpu miner-multi.
git clone https://github.com/tpruvot/cpuminer-multi
Then enter the folder and build the software.
cd cpuminer-multi && ./build.sh
Finally we run the miner, when you type in this command you will need to replace YOUR_EMAIL with the e-mail you have signed up with for minergate.com.
./cpuminer -a cryptonight -o stratum+tcp://xmr.pool.minergate.com:45700 -u YOUR_EMAIL
And that’s it, you are how mining in the Raspberry Pi Zero W. Don’t expect to get rich! But it’s fun to see how you can do this in Linux.
Best of all these commands work on any Raspberry Pi. I’ve already run these instructions on my Pi 4 and yielded 7.6x the performance.

A brief note on sublimation
At normal atmospheric pressure most chemical compounds and elements transition through solid, liquid and gas states.
Sublimation is the process of transitioning a solid to a gas state without passing through liquid.
Sublimation in water occurs at lower atmospheric pressures and can happen with nothing more than strong sunlight. The south face of Mt Everest is a location where sublimation happens naturally.

Did dinosaurs have toes?
Dinosaur feet, it goes without saying but I will say it anyway. Are very different from those of humans. Because of their unique foot structure most bipedal dinosaurs walked on their toes. Which I guess answers the question.
Why not listen to my new podcast episode did dinosaurs have toes?
Tumblr media
Bipedal dinosaur feet are constructed of long slender toes, which provides a superior grip to the ground and a great ability to balance. Most dinosaurs’ feet are made up of three toes, for walking and running.
The footprints of birds, have a remarkable similarity to those of their bipedal dinosaur cousins. In fact, over the last 200 million years the motion and structure of the three-toed bird have not changed very much. Indicating that evolutionary speaking nature discovered a very effective mode of transport that carries on even today.
Quadruped Dinosaurs have shorter foot bones and a set of board, stubby toes. Their foot structure if very close to that of Elephants. The bones of the feet were raised off the ground by a thick wedge-shaped heel pad. The heel pad allowed these giant animals to conserve energy as they moved around.
So yes, Dinosaurs did have toes, and the structure of their feet can be found in modern nature today.

The Raspberry Pi Zero WH is a tiny chewing gum packet sized computer. It features a mini HDMI connector for large screens, a microUSB port for power in and a second port for expansion. A microUSB hub can be installed, but I prefer to use a single wireless keyboard and mouse dongle combined with a microUSB to Type A cable or microUSB to OTG Converter Shim.
The Raspberry Pi Zero WH comes with a single core ARM11 based CPU running at 1GHZ and 512Mb RAM. It has Wireless 2.4G 802.11 WiFi onboard as well as Bluetooth Classic 4.1 and Bluetooth LE. It is powered by a single microUSB connector. It supports 1080p video and audio and features a PreSoldered GPIO header for projects.
The Raspberry Pi Zero is a tiny creator tool that can provide anything from a TV watching experience all the way up to games and a development tool. It is cheap enough to give to kids and kid minded adults to play with, and challenging enough to force them to learn real computer science while having a lot of fun.

Human beings! We aren’t really that strong, and before 3500 we were limited by how much we could move over any reasonable distance. The invention of a circular object was not in of itself a hard discovery.
The true innovation came when the wheel-and-axle concept was invented. The holes at the center of the wheels and at the ends of the axles had to be very near perfect or too much friction was applied would make jamming and pushing too hard.
In addition to this axles need to be relatively straight and put up with enough punishment when holding the weight of the vehicle. Today technology and materials means anyone can do it. But 3500 BC when everything was a manual process completed by hand it was much more of a challenge.
The size of the Axle is a critical factor, it needs to be snug enough in the wheels hole, to keep the wheel moving smoothly, but not so tight that the wheel is impeded in it’s rotation.

PN M2-9, or the Twin Jet Nebula is a bipolar planetary nebular. These nebula form around binary star systems, studies have demonstrated that the nebula is still growing. Using the rate of expansion it was calculated that the two jets occurred just 1200 years ago.
The image taken by NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope, demonstrates an amazing complexity to the objects formation. The bright interaction in the middle, suggests a violent reaction taking place in the middle. Gas is streaming out of the binary star system at speeds of over 621,400 miles an hour.
The shape of the nebula is most likely caused by the way the two stars orbit around each other. It is believed that the dying star and white dwarf orbit a common central mass. The two orbiting companions pull the matter from the dying source and their gravity wells pull the fleeing matter into space.

Flying candles?
There’s a trend going around on the internet, where a facemask is glued to a small tea candle and the setup then flies. This is mostly driven by the TikTok platform where users have created videos apparently showing that the candles can fly.
Tumblr media
A debate has naturally grown around this, with many users claiming it is possible and they’ve done it, and other users claiming it is a hoax.
This led to my own investigation of the process.
The first issue I discovered, is that all the videos I’ve seen have masks unnaturally standing up. As the strings are floppy by nature, this rigid structure is very suspect.
Tumblr media
With this in mind I proceeded to the next phase of the experiment. Lighting the flame. I discovered without support, the face mask gets far too close to the flame and melts.
Tumblr media
This is a standard disposable cotton face mask so getting it to fly using it’s own heat and structure seems unlikely.
As I’m unable to create an experiment that.
1) Raises the mask on it’s own.
2) Captures enough raising heat fast enough to inflate.
3) Survives the relatively tiny flame.
I’m happy to call this a bust.
Many of the videos shown, appear to be supported by the middle of the mask, I’m led to conclude, that the obvious answer to this experiment is that it is suspended.
Tumblr media
I was able to successfully create a video that was framed well enough to fool the average at a glance consumer that it was possible which I then later exposed was just a bit of camera framing and the reliance on people believing their eyes rather than asking questions.
You can find these videos on my other social media platforms, which you can find at www.therke.com.

Because The RKE is going multi-platform, a centralized location was needed so that all content can be found. Everyone who visits these please follow, subscribe and like to help grow my content. Thank you!
The website has been hand coded using Bootstrap 5, the latest iteration of the framework.
Merging feeds from multiple platforms is difficult, however thanks to http://rss.app I’m able to take multiple app feeds and combine it into a single large feed. The embedded code is easy to copy and insert.
The website was made using Visual Studio Code, and the icons on the site are provided by font awesome.
While this is a first generation of the site, and more features will be added. It’s nice to have all my content in one place.
You can find the website at https://www.therke.com
