The DC/Marvel Crossover server is proud to present our summer Pool Noodle Party! Celebrating the rarest crossover pairs, both platonic and romantic. Courtesy of this post about ships that are too small to count as ships:

For our purposes, a “pool noodle” is a relationship tag that comes up with less than 30 hits on Ao3. Platonic (&) relationships count! Any and all crossover pairings with under 30 existing fics are welcome.

We have six themes. Each theme will have a week for posting creations and a week for celebrating — giving feedback and leaving comments. We’ll share everything that was created the previous week and try to spread the love, but also post rec lists of our favorite older fics that fit the theme.

For anybody who's interested in creating fanworks for existing fic, we'll be posting a list (soon) of fics whose authors have given permission for podfic, moodboards, art, and playlists inspired by their work!

Themes are relatively loose, so your ship might fit multiple themes — that’s fine! Entirely up to you when you post.

Check out the prompt lists! Keep in mind that fics do not have to fit a particular prompt, only the general theme for the week they're posted. These are just for inspiration.

I never used to leave comments but since I got into the habit of commenting on everything i enjoy it's been incredible. Especially when the author gets back to me about it and we get to have a discussion of what other ideas they had. One writer replied to my comment with a 5 paragraph essay detailing the Floorplan of the building the characters lived in and it was incredible

Anyways this is all to say that if you find a fic that just makes you want to scream from the rooftops, leave a comment saying that to the author and maybe they will join you and you can scream incoherently together

anyway the actual point of fandom is to inspire each other. reading each other's fics and admiring each other's art and saying wow i love this and i feel something and i want to invoke this in other people, i want to write a sentence that feels like a meteor shower, i want to paint a kiss with such tenderness it makes you ache, i want to create something that someone else somewhere will see it and think oh, i need to do that too, right now. i am embracing being a corny cunt on main to say inspiring each other is one of the things humanity is best at and one of the things fandom is built for and i think that's beautiful

The fic is a reimagining of Jason’s Lost Days with a post CA:TWS Bucky agreeing to mentor Jason before he returns to Gotham. It’s poignant, heart wrenching, sweet, sexy. The exploration of their characters is beautiful and, despite everything that’s happened to them, they are both so funny. Jason is a little shit and I love him.

WIP I’m actually working on: I'm about 20k deep in the Highway sequel, which is incredibly exciting as long as I don't think about the fact that I'm maybe a quarter of the way through it.

WIP I keep open in the background so I don’t feel guilty: Heh. See above. The notes doc, drafting doc, and full-draft doc are all perpetually open and have been for a few weeks. But also, I frequently type like 10 words at a time on my Jason/Bucky/Slade fighting-as-foreplay fic that's gonna be a gift for @notherdeadrobin. That's high on the to-do list.

Imaginary project: A WinterHawkHood hockey + Twitter bit of silliness that is entirely concept at the moment. Also, a Lost Days AU where Clint as a SHIELD agent is sent after Jason.

Passion project: Highway sequel again... very passionate about that motherfucker. But also, another part of the All The Devils 'verse that's gonna get insanely angsty and is gonna hurt like a bitch to write. I think it could be amazing if I do it justice but it'll be a rough process.

WIP from 3 months ago: Last opened the third chapter of the Roy/Jason/Clint threesome a little over three months ago, apparently.

Side WIP: I keep scribbling out bits and pieces of the werewolf 'verse. It's soooo fluffy and comforting and full of love, it's just really fun to write. Already added one little JayRoy timestamp, but there are a few more on the way - Frank/Slade, Bucky/Clint/Roy, and Matt/Jason, among others. Also a second part of the main fic, which I'm really excited about.

Participants are strongly encouraged to get involved in feedback week and not only creation week! The unfortunate truth of the pool noodle is that it can feel like a very lonely way to float; crossovers are more likely to slip through the cracks of Ao3 searches, and they frequently don’t get the love they deserve. The best way to encourage more of them is to comment and let writers know that there’s an audience out there.

Prompt lists will also include a list of fics within the theme whose writers are open to podfic, art, etc, in case you’d like to do an “inspired by” work.
