Couple of fun updates: Ezran, the groundhog with horrifyingly overgrown incisors is now a chunky lil teddy bear shaped thing. His incisors were removed back in October and the post-surgical healing went well. Since then he has put on some muscle and chub, learned how to navigate the bedroom well, and ingratiated with the other groundhogs very well despite not being brain damaged that we know of. He's also neutered because we don't need a pile of unreleasable disabled baby groundhogs. Second pic is Fiona who was brought to us from Tennessee where she was found with her entire lower leg ripped off. (Presumably a predator got her through a fence.) She now has great tripod mobility and a number of friends in the big sanctuary rabbit group. She plays, lounges, chases, and eats as she pleases. I held Delilah for over 9 hours today. I held her until my back ached and my arms were sore and then I laid down so she could keep sleeping on me. The loss of Poppy the Groundhog really struck a nerve and I was going to hold my baby Delilah as long as she wanted. I didn't get much done today besides a bit of planning but that's alright because I cuddled Delilah all day long. I'm trapped under a sleepy Delilah so I'm not being wildly productive today. For some reason every spring Delilah goes through a few weeks where she is just upsetti spaghetti all the time. I'm not sure if it's hormones telling her to raise babies, or some other signal telling her she's wildly hungry after hibernation (which she doesn't actually do), or if it's just the changing of seasons. But she has more nightmares, wakes up screeching, and is generally just difficult to settle down. This is our 3rd spring with her so we know to expect if but I always just feel so bad for her. Anyway, this is the most comfortable she has been in awhile so even though I have things to do I won't be disturbing her. Also, Poppy the groundhog from Acorn Acres passed away and we just heard the news today so I'm going to savor my grounhog cuddles whenever they want them. Kiki has to nap. She had a big day. She and her sister went with us to the new property to meet the big goats and play in the great outdoors! The big goats were very accepting of the babies, so that's great. The plumbers and electricians are finishing the rough-in of the new place, so next I get to do insulation and wall panels. This bunny had eluded the Bloomington volunteer stray bunny capturing squad for weeks, but the homeowner who had originally spotted her managed to finally nab her in a trap we loaned out! She had quite a few ticks on her face and the inner sides of her legs. But otherwise seems quite healthy. And we found her family! Her name is Snuggles, and they had given up hope that they would ever find her again after she escaped all those weeks ago. So we're glad to be sending her home soon. She was very cuddly with me as I groomed the ticks off. Nicholas is truly an exceptional rat. I always know it but sometimes I forget it until we let other rats into the bed and they create a total mess. Usually a few times a week we take a rat out of the cage next to our bed (Nicholas always has other rats to interact with to some extent) and let them spend the night in the bed. Nicholas never minds having them around but he is far more obsessed with his groundhogs than with other rats. I keep thinking we need to find another permanent bed rat for him but he seems to be content with his regular rat visitors, the groundhogs, and the humans. Tonight he seems extra exhausted from his 2 day long visit from Felicia the hyperactive dwarf rattie. I guess maybe he's an introvert and even though he needs rat and other animal companionship it just wears him out. Look at how cute Marigold is in her wheelchair! It turns out Marigold'sleg was not able to be fixed due to a slipped tendon that was slipped for several weeks before we got her. Unfortunately once a tendon has slipped out of place entirely there's a very limited window to try to fix it and she was definitely past that. Luckily Hayli fell in love with Marigold and has been fostering her at least until we move. We also managed to modify a small dog wheelchair for Marigold but she's outgrowing it quickly and will soon need the next size up which is about $365! Whenever Josie is missing you can always count on finding her in my dresser. She opens the drawer, climbs in, closes it on herself and goes to sleep. I honestly sorta feel like joining her right now because I just found out that it's going to cost $1,520 to get the new building hooked up to a water meter. The constant small costs of construction just keep coming and I'm just ready to lose my cool over it. Like besides the water hook-up there's a handful of light fixtures we still need (probably under $200), then there were toilets (which were only $300 for all 3), there were 3 sink cabinets at $89 each (the rest of our cabinets we got used), we had to buy 2 water heaters at $450, we still need storm doors, and apparently you can't just skip gutters. I really thought I had this all under control but the couple hundred here and the couple thousand there are messing up my carefully planned budget. So anyway, I'm gonna go hide in my dresser and chew up my clothes with Josie. Then I'm going to figure out what I can sell to make all this work. Someone out there definitely wants to buy my kidney, right? If you don't want my kidney could you toss a couple dollars towards "The Alex Keeps her Kidney Fund."
