In our final week of shows we all came down to the theatre one night to take group shots from any major ensemble scenes in full costume, to make sure we could all appreciate the fully-lit efforts of the costume team for years to come.
This was our biggest group - the Beggars in Paris. It's still only about half of our cast. The full cast were genuinely never all in the same room at the same time!

one thing that really annoys me about a lot of les mis productions is their insistence on making the les amis de l'abc older than they are. i know it's partly a schematics thing with hiring younger actors, but to me so much of the tragedy behind the barricade comes from the fact they were kids. they were college students staring at a future they despised, desperate to change it, and they - and the hope they had for a kinder future - were slaughtered. i mean, hell, the musical talks about it! all the time! javert calls them schoolboys, turning is the mothers of paris staring at corpses of boys who could have been their sons, cosette eponine and marius are kids lost in their first loves. idk it seems like such a minor thing but to me it's so core to what makes this story so devastating

Just watched a recording of a community theater production of Les Mis. It has taught me three things. Small theaters are great actually, the acting is best when people are having fun, and it’s kinda funny when they stage Javert’s suicide so that he falls from the back of the bridge instead of the front and they put a mattress behind the wall so the actor doesn’t die but when he falls the audience can hear very clearly the sound of him hitting the mattress.

Read In Memoriam by Alice Winn today and it has left me with so many feelings, most of them painful, some of them hopeful, all of them aching to draw my new blorbos.

So about five weeks out from opening we had our OG Grantaire experience some Life Stuff that meant they were unable to continue in a role with solos (we kept them on as Mabeuf!) and, seeing as we had already cast everyone else comfortable singing by themself between our dual cast leads, it didn't take too much convincing for me to jump into my favourite character's role.
Grantaire is no where near my range, and I stress-sang this solo about 30 times each night before curtains up, but it's mine and I'm so fond, and I did not at all realise how visible the talk with Enjolras up the back of the stage was but that hair-flip makes me cackle and one day I WILL animate it.
Shout out to this scene being responsible for my mom asking me - after we watched this footage for the first time with the cast - exactly what the relationship between Grantaire and Enjolras was. Such a great conversation that didn't at all have me praying for a localised asteroid touch down.

Finale staging from our Les Mis production!
This turned out exactly like the picture that I'd had in my head since before auditions.

Here's a look at the opening of the Cafe scene from our production of Les Mis last year! (a behind-the-scenes of the set up before the curtains open can be found here!)

More Mis pics!
Here is my Prouvaire and Feuilly, in verse one of Drink With Me at one of our final rehearsals.
Fun fact: the wine in our bottles on show nights was made up of various juices (mainly orange and apple/blackcurrant) and food dyes to make it look accurate enough through the semi-see through glass.
On the middle weekend of performances, I (playing Grantaire) took a swig of my drink only to notice a giant blob of teal paste in the neck of my bottle. I had a flash of panic about how R's second verse might lose some impact if his teeth were, you know, bright hecking blue, but I somehow managed to avoid getting any of the paste chunk in my mouth, and we changed to dissolving the paste in water before adding it to the bottles.

Forever torn between not wanting to flood timelines and the impulse to post Every Single One of the legitimately-more-than-1,000 production photos I have from my Les Mis run earlier this year.
Here's a favourite of Gavroche, he looks so small and it breaks my heart, I can still hear the audience gasping as he falls now <3

Not me cackling to myself while programming the lighting cues alone in an empty theatre at 3am as I realise that the 'fade-to-night' look I'd been going for had resulted in the bi flag being splashed across the back cyc for Grantaire's solo in Drink With Me
