:~) Beliefs are absorbed by us from the society we belong to. Little original thinking goes in forming beliefs. It is quite difficult for us to accept that we are blindly following the beliefs handed down to us by the society. We are in a delusion that our thoughts are our own, and so our beliefs are our own. The fact is that our thoughts are no more than a stone whose trajectory is decided by the hand throwing it, and just like us, the stone may well delude itself that it is flying out of its own free will. Just as you cannot opt not to hear or see what you hear or see around you, you cannot opt not to let the society affect your thoughts and beliefs. As our values and goals are the automatic result of our beliefs. Values are crucial because they are the immediate force behind the goals we strive for and attitudes we inculcate. Beliefs are absorbed by us from the society we live in without going to their roots. Thus, our beliefs, values, and goals, all are borrowed about which we have little understanding. Our intelligence poses questions challenging our beliefs but as we have little understanding of our borrowed beliefs, we are unable to satisfy our intelligent doubts. This leads to confusion and ultimately pushes us into the well of mediocrity. Our beliefs are either weak or wrong. ii) Values emanating from these weak and wrong beliefs are either weak or misleading, but we are socially conditioned to follow these values. iii) Pursuing weak values cause regrets and guilt, and pursuing misleading values cause frustration and bitterness. iv) Guilt, Regrets, Bitterness, and Frustration are emotions found only in humans. ~:) A religious person sacrificing a goat is ‘happy’ by one definition whereas the same act is ‘sorrowful’ for a religiously vegetarian person. Though both are humans and bear the same human psychology and thinking, how absurd is it that their feelings are diametrically opposite for the same act. This is so because our happiness depends upon our perception of what is good and what is important. Consequent to this the two persons bear diametrically opposite feelings for the same act. This absurdity is just a tip of the iceberg. To understand the overall picture of human psychology and thinking behind this, we must start by understanding the definitions of ‘happy’, ‘good’, and ‘important’ collected by us from the society. Every culture made its own unique stories, and as can be expected of humans living precariously in wilderness and ignorance, the most entertaining and horrific ones attracted followers. Humans are curious for answers. Our biases make us gullible to specious arguments. Even bad answers which are logically fallacious satisfy us due to our thinking flaws and biases. We can trace the origins of religion to the prehistoric development of man between 5 lac and 1 lac years B.C. These scientific terms are hijacked and used in conjunction with their pseudoscientific concepts which actually make no sense. They use them as senseless buzzwords. Whenever you hear someone appeal to impenetrable physics to explain the workings of the mind, run away — we already have disciplines called ‘psychology’ and ‘neuroscience’ to deal with those questions. We can have the right answers, yet the enlightening sense of proportion and importance of these facts or these “scientific answers” dawn upon us only if we can transcend our skewed and narrow perspectives. This enlightening sense helps us arrive at our “conclusions about life” and consequently our own values signifying what life is for. We must take a relook at the facts of reality with “right perspective”. Relooking at “right answers” on a “universal canvas” is the “right perspective”. Reality has to be seen with an universal eye i.e. in the right perspective to see the big picture. The light of right knowledge will remove the darkness of beliefs and give us enlightening conclusions. Statements of belief are copied by us from the society’s dashboard to our dashboard. Beliefs and Conclusions vastly differ in every respect. - If ‘belief’ is darkness, ‘right knowledge’ is the light and ‘conclusion’ is enlightenment. - Our thinking flaws give us ‘beliefs’, logical thinking gives us conclusions. - ‘Beliefs’ about human life are figments of human imaginations and are primarily soaked by us from the society we live in, whereas ‘conclusions’ are rationally extracted from right knowledge. - Our ‘beliefs’ about human life residing in either of the four domains will give us “belief-based values”, whereas “right knowledge-based conclusions” will give us “authentic-values”. - Belief-based weak and misleading values unknowingly ‘sink-in’, whereas we have to effortfully ‘think-in’ conclusion-based values. - Beliefs are mostly rigid, and sometimes rationalized to neutralize counter evidence. They are not open to rational debate and test.
