A Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne This is one of few classics I like. I picked this book after my friend Rachana strongly recommended it. Originally published in French in 1864,the book has been translated into various languages. Story revolves around an eccentric scientist who believes if you jump inside a volcano, you can reach other side of earth. Oh boy, the man sets his journey inside an inactive volcano along with his nephew & a guide. The incidents inside the volcano are an epitome of imagination. Children has best imagination power. Any adult who can imagine like a child & pen his imagination becomes a successful writer! Jules Verne was gifted with both the talents. Did they reach other side of earth? Did they even survive? Read this book to know more! . . . . . . . . . .. #theLeviosaReader #bookstagram #booklover #booknerd #bookstagrammer #bookworm #bookwormlife #avidreader #bibliophile #bookreading #booksofinstagram #bookaddict #indianbooks #bookblogger #bookbloggersofinstagram #bookblogging #bookbloggers #ilovereading #bookspine #bookstoread #Whattoread #bookspile #bookrecommendations #bookstagramfeature #Bookreviews #bookreview #Bookreviewer https://www.instagram.com/p/CP52KMvnwZF/?utm_medium=tumblr

The Guest List by Lucy Foley I picked up this 'whodunnit' thriller last month after reading it's review in my friends post. A celebrity couple decides to get married at a remote island. The groom: handsome and charming, a rising television star. The bride: smart and ambitious, a magazine publisher. The wedding has been planned perfectly with all the luxuries one can expect from a celebrity wedding. And then - some dies. The island has very unruly waves & not so good reputation. The mobile phone signal is also not so great. Then why did Jules, the bride decide to get married there? Is she the culprit? This was my first thought. The whole novel is gripping. All of my guesses on the murderer got proved wrong as each chapter was over. The way the author describes the island itself is scary. I would choose to stay single if at all that island was the only wedding Avenue available. This is a multi-perspective book. This makes the book more interesting. Short chapters are an added advantage. I read the book in one sitting. A fast paced un-putdownable whodunnit thriller. Room by Emma Donoghue... The book is loosely based on infamous Fritzl case. A teenage girl was held captive at the cellar built at basement of her home by her father, for over 24 years. She was sexually abused by the monster & eventually gave birth to 7 children due to the abuse. Three children lived with her in the dungeon prison. The three children did not see outside world until their rescue. The dungeon, their mother & their grandad( was also their biological dad ) who visited them for filling up supplies & to sexually abuse their mother were their world. In this book, the story has been narrated from the eyes of the little boy. In this story the teenage girl has been abducted by a stranger & kept captive for fulfilling his sexual desires. Eventually she gives birth to this little boy named Jack. To him - the room, it's objects & his Ma are the world. He is NOT aware existence of the world outside of room. The book can be divided into two parts. One - their life inside the ROOM.Two - their life outside the ROOM post escape. I liked the first part of book. The author has done a fine job of portraying the room through eyes of Jack. But Emma failed miserably to bring out the emotions & trauma one will have when they are re-entering the WORLD after 7 years. In case of Jack, he is seeing the real world for first time - the world he has seen only in TV. Even Ma's suicide attempt did not make me feel anything. In the second part, I felt Jack was talking too much for his age, keeping the aside fact that he was confined to a room all those years. Even Jack's escape felt like a fantasy fiction scene! Overall I don't like this book & I know I'm minority. Shoe Dog by Phil Knight In this candid and riveting memoir, for the first time ever, Nike founder and CEO Phil Knight shares the inside story of the company’s early days as an intrepid start-up and its evolution into one of the world’s most iconic, game-changing, and profitable brands. Phil Knight bares his soul in this memoir. The book tells a brilliant, absolutely amazing, story of the Nike company (Blue Ribbon Sports), its founder – Phil Knight, and its execom members The book describes Phil’s struggles and how he started out the company. It is a great recap of the early days showing the ceaseless fight with a shortage of money as well as with unfair competition at relatively early stages. You can see both sides of the personal and professional story while also learn about one of the most iconic brands in the world. This is an interesting story just because it gives you a better perspective on a lot of setbacks, a lot of problems and issues he had to challenge with. The book also gives a touch on the manufacturing process of shoes in Asia as well as talks about forming the partnership with Michael Jordan and other sport titans like Tiger Woods. Worth to say that Phil Knight is an excellent writer and a storyteller. He did a great job as the book is absolutely astonishing not only by the inspiring story it tells but also by its abundance of useful information for experienced an inexperienced entrepreneurs. Practical Self Help Book! I'm not a fan of self-help books because they are all same. They promote toxic positivity. Reach for the stars..Aim high..Meditate..Smile..Laugh..Explore yourself..Blah..Blah..So unrealistic.Highly achieved people like Nelson Mandela,Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Edison are quoted. Oh please! Not everyone can become Bill Gates or Sachin Tendulkar. That's the hard hitting reality. I call this book a practical one as it aims to make readers have an achievable goal! The author asks his readers to not give an F about anything. Don't give a F about that new model car your neighbour bought. Don't give a F about that high end vacation. It's okay to feel sad & face failures. It's okay. What's not okay is the unrealistic expectation that you need to be happy everytime. Writing is so funny & colloquial. F word is often repeated but that's what connects youth of today with the book so dearly. Years back, I had very tough time in my office. I felt like a failure. I was totally down. That's when my friend @padminisubramanian7 gifted me this book. She asked me to read a chapter & implement in real life before moving on to next chapter. That's the way you read this book. I did exactly the same. It took almost an year to complete the book. Believe me, I'm totally a new person after reading this book. I would call this as my Bible. It changed my outlook on life & set new goals. I'm happy because I don't give a Fuck to anything or anyone anymore! Book that will haunt me forever. I came across the epic book *Kissing the Corona Virus* by M.J.Edwards last year. Who would have thought an erotica genre book will have a virus in hot steamy action? Damn! A lady scientist finds Covid sample hot (Yeah you read that right!). The covid sample takes human form (The green color man in cover page is Covid in human form). What's next? They make steamy hot love. When I thought I will never read a more ridiculous book, the author shocked me with a sequel. Hypocrites in book world were like 'Nope.I won't read that shit'. Yet read the sequel as it's free with Kindle unlimited. Im the hypocrite.I read the sequel. This time author gave human form to vaccination (the blue color guy). The protagonist lady microbiologist, covid guy & vaccination guy ends up with whatever the hell you want to call. How can you underestimate M.J.Edward's prowess as erotica writer? Third time she came back with mutant strain which takes lady form. Congratulations to her for proving that she can write M/F, M/F/F & F/F stories as well. If you think the author has stopped with a trilogy, you got it all wrong. She is back with fourth book where that damn protagonist who always makes love with corona virus is pregnant. Yesssssss! It's 'Kissing the CoronaVirus Chronicles' & not Trilogy. The Goddess Homecoming by Nibedita Deb. 💠I won this book from giveaway hosted by @pinkwinereviews. My first giveaway win & it meant a lot. 💠The Plot This anthology of short stories is set against the backdrop of the most important festival of the Bengali community - Durga Puja. It forays into the premise that Goddess Durga is more than just a warrior from mythic times. In today’s world, She is a persistent voice of rebel amidst a norm-abiding crowd. Her indomitable spirit is embodied by ordinary women who make extraordinary choices. The stories unfold across the five important days of the festival and take the readers on a tumultuous yet eye-opening journey. Even though the collection touches base with urban festivity from time to time, it also brings into focus the manifold narratives of rural and suburban Durgotsav. At times, it bravely meanders through the less popular legends of the Mother Goddess. But in its essence, it recognizes women who muster the courage to fight demons that lurk both within and outside of themselves. 💠My Two cents The book stands as a testimony for rich Bengali culture. Like one can learn a lot about Punjab & it's culture from Khushwant Singh's writing, @nibeditawrites has done an excellent job in bringing out Bengali culture in the short stories. Writing a fiction against a particular cultural background is like walking over knife. If there is a slight slip, the novel would become like a documentary. The author has balanced it so well that you enjoy the short stories & learn abt the culture as well. They call elderly women as sister in law out of respect where as in my culture we call elderly women as sister. There are lot of things I learnt from the short stories. The lucid language in book connects even an average English reader to the characters. The author has excellent narration skill tha the readers can feel all the emotions that she intended to bring. 💠The Leviosa Reader Rating 5/5 . . . . #theLeviosaReader #bookstagram #booklover #booknerd #bookstagrammer #bookworm #bookwormlife #avidreader #bibliophile #bookreading #booksofinstagram #bookaddict #indianbooks #bookblogger #bookbloggersofinstagram #bookblogging https://www.instagram.com/p/COr8c7hHxz9/?igshid=8l8qrr9mw9bl

Book Review : The World As a Neural Network by Niraja Bandi & Arghya Chakraborty. 🔘Category:Non Fiction. The book as title says , is about Artificial intelligence & its impact on society. This is a tech book but written in a simple language. This makes reading Techie stuff easier for Non-Techie folks as well. Book starts with introducing Artificial intelligence to the readers. The book moves on to various countries like China, US & Africa where it discusses about AI impact. I was both shocked & surprised to learn about China's social credit system. If a country with world's highest population can do a mass surveillance of its citizens using AI, what else other countries can do? I was petrified. Another shocker was the racial profiling using AI. Damn! I don't want to Spoil the book. Overall a good book with kick-ass cover design. It's definitely a treat for Non fiction lovers. 🔘The Leviosa Reader Rating 4/5 . . . . . . . . . . #theLeviosaReader #bookstagram #booklover #booknerd #bookstagrammer #bookworm #bookwormlife #avidreader #bibliophile #bookreading #booksofinstagram #bookaddict #indianbooks #bookblogger #bookbloggersofinstagram #bookblogging #bookbloggers #ilovereading #bookspine #bookstoread #Whattoread #bookspile #bookrecommendations #bookstagramfeature #Bookreviews #bookreview #Bookreviewer #NonFiction #sashreviews https://www.instagram.com/p/COpAiVbHQs4/?igshid=1coy6l3d73m1z

Tragic Day in life of a PotterHead 31st July 2016 -A day that started with full josh & enthusiasm but ended as a tear jerker in my life as a PotterHead. I grew up watching Harry Potter.I belonged to Gryffindor. Sirius Black was my crush & dream boy. Being a single child, I longed for brothers like Weasley twins. When the announcement came about the 8th book, I was on cloud 9. I dint bother to know that it's not fully written by J.K.R & it's a screenplay script. I lived in Bengaluru at that time. We had to register at Landmark stores online if one wanted book on first day. I registered for my copy religiously & made my bestie @genugopal cancel all her plans on 31st July 2016. I started posting countdowns in my FB page. The day arrived! I was updating status from the time I woke up. "Good morning muggles! Here comes another Potter story..Big day started already"... Lol.. We went there a little earlier than store opening time. However I was not surprised to see a long queue already. So many kids wearing wizarding robes, carrying wands etc. There was cake cutting to celebrate Harry's Bday. We also attended Harry Potter Quiz but eventually lost in 4th round. A magic show where magician was pretending as Hogwarts wizard. It was a festival indeed. It was the best day in my life untile I started reading the book! First, I was not used to reading screenplay format. Second,I couldn't digest Harry's son belittling the great Harry. Third, JKR was not the author. It felt like a cheap fan fiction. I closed the book & never opened it again until yesterday. Surprisingly, I'm starting the like the book now. I'm having strong maternal instincts toward Scorpius. I can see why Al was hating Harry. Why elderly Diggory wanted Time Turner. It all feels right. Is is my age factor? I was in my mid twenties when the book was released. Now that I'm in my early 30s, my perceptions have changed. Earlier I could simply stare at the wall of it had J.K.Rowling signature in it. No that I had read her disastrous book Ickabog, my expectation from her is really low. This could also be the factor why Im starting to like Harry Potter & Cursed child! https://www.instagram.com/p/COo2NLhHgJR/?igshid=3rc1v1o8qq0z

Book Review : All Seasons Alike by Kavya Sharma The plot: All Seasons Alike is Bindiya's journey of life which starts from a small chawl in Mumbai's Sakinaka, where three underprivileged women (she, her mother, and her grandmother) thrived together some days on compassion, some days belittling each other. From free langars every Tuesday to studying in SUDHAAR and taking a leap of faith- Bindiya wanted to break this circle of under-privilege and poverty, get educated and make a living. But what when you have a series of people playing against you? So much so that you shift cities, run away from your past and change your identity. From Mumbai's Bindiya in the past to Dilli's Shaina in the present, this story captures the struggles of a woman who grew up suffering at the hands of every man who played a major role in her life, falling back to the same old pattern. The journey captures the life of not just Bindiya/Shaina but women like her- bringing in the themes of sisterhood and a sense of belonging when you have no one to fall back to. My review: The book captures struggles of underprivileged girls & their mindset. Its not easy for people below poverty line to break free from it.Reality is dark & far from fairy tale especially if you are a underprivileged female. Author has done an excellent in portraying the strong female protagonist who swims against tide. Its an inspirational story. The simple language makes it reading more enjoyable. Kudos to the cover designer for kick-ass book cover. Most disappointing read of 2021! I picked up Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin as my fantasy read of April 2021. This was in my TBR list for very long following so much hype everywhere in booksta community. The cover & books one liner are kick-ass! What else I need to start jumping into a fantasy world? Lou is a fiesty witch-turned-thief forces to marry a witch hunter called Reid. The witch hunters work for church which has ultimate goal of killing all the witches & wizards. Witches release a smell whenever they perform magic. They are very careful not to perform magic when they are around witch hunters as they would get burned alive. Reid & Lou falls in love with each other & ends up getting married with Reid having no knowledge that Lou is a witch. The thing about fantasy novels is that they take us to a whole different world. The author not only builds the characters but also the world surrounding them. Shelby fails miserably in transition us to the world she attempted to create. The characters are also mean towards fat people & Lou constantly puts down another female character by shaming her. We are so much matured to not body shame anyone, I thought. I could guess the next scene with ease as the author seems to use all the cliche needed to make this horrible novel an apt YA book. Only thing I like about the novel is casual inclusion of a LGBT romance. At one one point , I was like where is this story going ? I was happy when I reached last of the book. Am I going to buy second book of this trilogy? Nooooooooooooooooooooo! Lesson learnt : Never fall for forewording by famous authors. Sarah J Mass forewarded this book! My blue & green stack! When I saw blue & green stack pic from @shelf.conscious.nic , I instantly fell in love with the idea. The combination was giving a positive warmth kind of vibe. I made up my mind to photograph similar stack over the weekend. I browsed through my bookshelf to find NO green covered book & very few blue covered books. Climbed up the ladder to reach my loft where I have stored old books in carton boxes. Upon opening the first Carton box, chronicles of Narnia came to my rescue. I have special edition books with brilliant green & blue covers. Then came THE GIRL WHO KICKED HORNET'S NEST, SCREENBURN & JUDI MOODY. Seeing these books brought back so many memories. I spent whole of my afternoon in my loft cherishing the memories, while occasionally saying hello to the lizards that live there. Every book has my emotions & memories written all over it.
