The Mage and The Master-Sneak Peek at Chapter Three

Eleven wiggled out of her sleeping bag, taking great care to not make too much noise, pulled on her slippers, and aligned all of her steps and twists to avoid physical contact with anybody strewn between her and the exit where Casey had wandered. She impressively stood, watching the rest of the sleeping team, lulled to dreams from the tender, barely audible guitar playing over Donnie’s speaker. She was already becoming a ninja like them. She kept her footsteps soft and slow as she followed Casey down the tunnel, the distant sirens and honks getting further established the more she advanced down the passageways, closer towards the roads. Eleven eventually found him, resting at a turnoff to an opening over a harbor, watching the sprinkle of lights from both pilings and boats, in various sizes and shapes. Casey had a smaller speaker beside him, playing a song that Eleven could only hear once she had walked up to him enough for him to look up and see her there. “What is it?” “You left your sleeping bag.” Eleven remained standing, looking down at him. “I couldn’t sleep either.” “Are you afraid he might try to get you too?” Eleven shook her head. “One will have to do his worst to take me down.” They both fell quiet, and Eleven listened to the lyrics of the song playing on Casey’s speaker The weather outside’s changing, The leaves are buried under six inches of white The radio is playing Iron & Wine This is a new dimension This is a level where we’re losing track of time I’m holding nothing against it, except you and I “That sounds beautiful.” She weighed in. Casey’s mouth slightly opened, before recognizing the meaning. “Oh, yeah. Thank you.” He dazedly replied, staring down towards the speaker as it kept singing the singer’s words. “I was on this date in the city, and this was playing on the speaker where we had dinner.” Eleven summoned her courage to take a seat on the opposite end of the entry, facing Casey with a smile. “A date?” Casey’s eyes confusedly creased, but he continued. “Yes.” “Was she pretty?” He considerably relaxed. “She was GORGEOUS.” “Sssshhh!” He was louder than she wanted, and Eleven snapped her head back around to look down the alley way. Once no noise had resumed from further back from where they came, she turned back to him. “Her name was Marianna.” Casey leaned back into the wall, gazing back onto the harbor. “She actually lived right next door to April. I was with April and my Mom when she came out to pick up a package outside her door and…I don’t know what I did.” He finished with an embarrassed giggle. “Where is she now?” Eleven immediately regretted the question as soon as it was completed. Casey didn’t look offended, but it still wasn’t Eleven’s business, no matter how well she meant. “We went out for about three weeks, and…” Casey’s hands laid upon his thighs, and his eyebrows sagged. “I’m sorry, I was only-” “She couldn’t handle living here.” Casey finished. “She had survived The Krang, meet Splinter and The Turtles, had gone to school with April for YEARS, she had a job she was wonderful at…if it was a few weeks or months after the invasion, that would’ve made sense, but-she left when everything was right. When it was good.” His hands went up to his head, nearly dislodging the propped hockey mask. “Do you know where she went?” “Jersey, I think. Leo told me that’s enough of a sign that it wasn’t meant to be.” Eleven felt like that was something she should laugh at. But she didn’t. “I’m sorry.” “Thank you.” Eleven let the incredulousness settle into her mind. Everything going well, everything fine, everything happily-ever-after…and still not being happy enough. An image of that happening between her and Mike flashed within her imagination, so vividly terrifying and tragic that it seemed too cruel even for One to conjure up.  She could never let that happen. Not to Mike. Not to their friends. Not to Joyce and Hopper. Nothing being good enough and walking away from them all. That could maybe be the one thing worse than Hawkins, the world, falling into its end in the Upside Down.
The first two chapters of The Mage & The Master are available to read now.

"C.Q.D. Help! Help! We are sinking." The RMS Titanic sank in the early morning hours of 15 April 1912 in the North Atlantic Ocean, four days into her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York City 14th-15th April 1912
At 11:40 pm on 14 April, lookout Frederick Fleet spotted an iceberg immediately ahead of Titanic and alerted the bridge. First Officer William Murdoch ordered the ship to be steered around the obstacle and the engines to be reversed, but it was too late; the starboard side of Titanic struck the iceberg, creating a series of holes below the waterline.
The hull was not punctured by the iceberg, but rather dented such that the hull's seams buckled and separated, allowing water to rush in. Five of the ship's watertight compartments were breached. It soon became clear that the ship was doomed, as she could not survive more than four compartments being flooded.
Titanic began sinking bow-first, with water spilling from compartment to compartment as her angle in the water became steeper. Between 2:10 and 2:15 a.m., a little over two and a half hours after Titanic struck the iceberg, her rate of sinking suddenly increased as the boat deck dipped underwater, and the sea poured in through open hatches and grates. As her unsupported stern rose out of the water, exposing the propellers, the ship broke in two main pieces between the second and third funnels, due to the immense forces on the keel. With the bow underwater, and air trapped in the stern, the stern remained afloat and buoyant for a few minutes longer, rising to a nearly vertical angle with hundreds of people still clinging to it, before foundering at 2:20 am.

Oh this is SO good and makes me even more pumped.
I'm honestly reminded me of Tony Gilroy's press interview for Star Wars' "Andor" about how he originally approached the show as a project for people who weren't ordinarily into Star Wars or didn't need extensive Star Wars experience to properly enjoy the story on its own merit.

Character-based storytelling in mega-popular franchises is coming back and April 26th can't be here fast enough.
The Cinematic World of Sonic the Hedgehog!
Recently, Paste hosted an interview with Knuckles producer Toby Ascher about the mini series premiering in April and Sonic 3. Down below are some of the highlights from the interview with the online magazine:
The Knuckles series will focus on our favorite echidna warrior finding a new purpose in the world. He embarks on a personal self-growth journey with “hot mess” Wade Whipple to teach him some discipline/Echidna warrior training.
The mini-series is treated more as a character study. It focuses more on the growth of the characters and who they are.
Toby Ascher explains that there are some “bigger things” that the crew wants to do with SCU.
The “fish-out-of-water comedy” that came from Knuckles at the end of Sonic 2 is what inspired the series.
The series is meant to follow the same tone and direction of the movies in order to tie in with events for Sonic 3.
Character models have been refined and tweaked along the way in order to match the pace of storytelling. As time passes through the films (whether it’s months or years), we see the models of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and more “grow up.”
Extensive character references have been made of Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles in determining how each one emotes depending on situations. Character study is key here.
There are roughly 1,600 model shots compared to Sonic 1, which had a little over 300.
Toby Ascher explains that if the Knuckles series is successful, then there is potential for more stories/mini-series with other characters. He also explains that the story will be carefully crafted with a purpose to serve the character(s) rather than to make something for the sake of making something.
If the series and the third film are successful in general, then expansion will continue in SCU.
To quote Toby Ascher, “We knew that, with Shadow coming into Sonic 3 and some of the bigger things that we want to do, the Sonic franchise on the movie side is going to be these Avengers-level events. They’re going to be these big, exciting stories that have a lot of different characters. And so what television did for us is it gave us time to go into some of the more supporting characters in depth and really build them out in cool ways.”

Sneak Peek of The Mage and The Master: Chapter Two
Happy Easter, readers, friends & followers! Writing & Editing is underway for Chapter Two of The Mage and The Master, still scheduled to be released on April 10th! Please enjoy a brief snippet of You Remind Me of Some Boys I Know as we enter the final 10-Day countdown!
“My real name is Jane.” Eleven changed the subject once the mug was gone from her mouth, settled back onto the side table beside the remaining scone. “I’ve gone by Eleven for most of my life, but my boyfriend cut it down to ‘El’ when we met, and that’s what I prefer now.” “You have a boyfriend?!?” Everybody in the room exclaimed at once, Mikey and Splinter with the utmost joy and shock teetering closely into concern. “Yes, I do.” Eleven reiterated proudly. “He’s wonderful. I owe him everything.” “Now wait a minute.” Splinter objected, his teeth cutting down into his words “How old are you again? You don’t want to say things like that so—” “No, I do owe him everything.” Eleven straightened up on the couch. “Without him, I wouldn’t have gotten a place to hide when I escaped the lab. I wouldn’t have been able to find my new Dad, and my stepmother and stepbrothers. Without him, I wouldn’t have gotten a chance to live amongst other humans, let alone be happy with them. Without him, I wouldn’t have been able to save anybody.” She had begun crying again, lightly brushing the growing tears with increasing self-consciousness. “When I last faced One…Mike was able to free me from him. He said that I was his superhero.” Mikey was tearing up, his hands clenched over his heart at Eleven’s recollection. Leo's chest was heavy but warm at her words, seeing the sudden reverence duplicated across Casey and Raph as they also paid attention, and even more affectionate sympathy from Donnie as he watched with them. Splinter wasn’t nearly as emotional, but he eased back, not objecting to the intensity of her devotion. “You both sound very sure and supportive of yourselves.” Their father admitted. “It is beyond hope for so many of us in this world to find bonds like that. I hope you two are able to keep making it work.” “Thank you.” Eleven responded. Mikey pulled forward, his hands gushingly propping his face up in eager anticipation. “Soooo…what’s this boyfriend like? What’s his name?” “Is he superpowered too?” Splinter added his own question. “His name is Mike,” Eleven held up a hand, even though she was obviously fine with answering both questions “and he doesn’t have any powers.” Mikey’s grin grew even more, and his hands began to quake with his squealed revelation “Me and your boyfriend have the same name!” “I doubt it’s short for ‘Michelangelo,’ Orange.” Splinter compassionately interjected. “It’s short for Michael.” Eleven affirmed. “So…not that far off.” Mikey’s excited smile remained.

Alright Y’all! I’d like to share something with you real quick, but we need to make sure that we’re calm and collected about this one. This is really 50/50.
Cinemacon takes place between April 8th to April 11th this year. The Hollywood Handle has made a plausible prediction that Paramount will share Shadow’s VA on the 11th (scroll downwards to find the post in the thread). Please keep in mind that this is a PREDICTION—there isn’t hard evidence, as of yet, to suggest that Paramount will reveal something Sonic 3-related on the 11th. What we’re going on here is a “gut feeling.”
If there is something related to Sonic 3 shown at Cinemacon, that’s good news. If there is NOTHING related to Sonic 3, then let’s be civil. The crew members of the film do not have control of what is and isn’t shown. It is our job to be civil and respectful no matter what happens.
