When was the sabbath created?

•The end of creation week (Gen. 2:2-3)

What did God do with the Sabbath?

•He blessed it, sanctified it, and rested on it (Gen. 2:2-3)

Was it made just for the Jews? 

•No, since no Jews existed at creation (Genesis 2:2-3)

•It’s for all mankind (Mark 2:27-28)

•All true believers are part of spiritual Israel anyway (Romans 2:28-29; Galatians 3:28-29) 

Did anyone keep the sabbath before exodus 20?

•Yes, Adam and Eve (Gen. 2:2-3)

•Abraham (Gen. 26:5)

•Israel (Exodus 16:23, 28)

What is the Sabbath intended to remind us of?

•that God is our Creator (Exodus 20:11; Ezekiel 20:20)

Can’t we keep any day holy?

How did Jesus ask us to prove our love for Him?

Wasn’t the sabbath part of the law added because of sin?

Didn’t Paul tell us in Colossians 2 not to judge each other about the sabbath and in Romans 14 that the day no longer matters?

•No, Romans 14:1 states the context is over matters of opinion, not the Law (Romans 14:1, rsv)

•Colossians 2 was referring to the feasts, also called sabbaths (Leviticus 23; Deuteronomy 31:26)

Aren’t the ceremonial law and the Ten Commandments the same law?

•No, the ceremonial law was written in a book and placed in the side pocket of the ark of the covenant 

•The Ten Commandments were written by God’s finger on stone and placed INSIDE the Ark of the covenant (Exodus 31:18; Exodus 25:16, 21; Hebrews 9:4)

What law was fulfilled and abolished at Calvary?

The ceremonial law, not the Ten Commandments (Daniel 9:27; Matthew 27:51; Mark 15:38; Luke 23:45) 

Doesn’t Paul say we’re under grace, not the Sabbath?

•No, he says we’re not under legalism or condemnation of the Law (Romans 6:14-15)

Why do so many keep Sunday instead?

Which one of the Ten Commandments contains the seal of God?

But didn’t the apostles keep Sunday? Is there record of keeping the sabbath in Acts?

•No, they didn’t keep Sunday as that was the pagan day and they wanted to avoid the appearance of evil (1 Thess. 5:22-23)

•Acts records the early church keeping the true sabbath 84 times (twice in Acts 13:14, 44; once in Acts 16:23; thrice in Acts 17:1-2; 78 in Acts 18:4, 11)

Doesn’t the Acts 20:7 meeting show Sunday sacredness?

•No, it was Saturday night, showing Paul had been preaching all sabbath since the new day begins at sunset (Genesis 1; Acts 20:7)

Do we see the sabbath in Revelation?

•God as Creator (Revelation 4:10-11; Genesis 2:2-3; Exodus 20:8-11; Ezekiel 20:20)

God Himself said this, in Genesis 3:19: In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return. . God didn’t say Adam would go to heaven when he died, if he was good enough. He didn’t say they would go to hell if they weren’t good enough. God simply said that when they died, they would return to the ground, decompose, and become one with the earth again in the form of dust. Nothing else. No heaven, no hell. .

We often call the writings of EGW the Spirit of Prophecy, and I believe this is correct. However, did you know that in referring to Simeon in the Temple, she referred to him having the Spirit of Prophecy? . The term is not unique to just her. It also includes the writings of the Bible. I’ve seen some try to throw out her writings or even just demote them because she’s a sinner. . The seal of God’s law is found in the fourth commandment. This only, of all the ten, brings to view both the name and the title of the Lawgiver. It declares Him to be the Creator of the heavens and the earth, and thus shows His claim to reverence and worship above all others. Aside from this precept, there is nothing in the Decalogue to show by whose authority the law is given. — The Great Controversy, p. 452 . The Sabbath is not introduced as a new institution but as having been founded at creation. It is to be remembered and observed as the memorial of the Creator’s work. Pointing to God as the Maker of the heavens and the earth, it distinguishes the true God from all false gods. All who keep the seventh day signify by this act that they are worshipers of Jehovah. Thus the Sabbath is the sign of man’s allegiance to God as long as there are any upon the earth to serve Him. The fourth commandment is the only one of all the ten in which are found both the name and the title of the Lawgiver. It is the only one that shows by whose authority the law is given. We live in a world that glorifies self. We don't want our preachers to preach solid, present truth. We want them to preach smooth things. But we are not a church of Joel osteens. We are God's last day remnant. We preach present truth. We preach straight truth. . But still many of us reject it. We let our kids listen to Beyonce, Jay-Z, Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, and many other ungodly musicians. . We let our kids play video games like Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, or games that actively have cheating sexually as part of the story line. . We let our kids watch movies and shows like the Avengers, X-Men, Pornhub, or other shows/movies that flip God's order of the family upside down. Sitcoms actively make fun of the fathers and husbands of families, making them seem like bumbling idiots. God designed that the husband and father should be the godly spiritual leader of the family. But now we've allowed many things to come in to turn that completely upside down. . And after all this, we still wonder why our kids leave the church when they're of age to do so. Most of us as parents are not doing our job of training our children in the ways of God. . As God's people, I call upon us to act like it. Uphold the standard He has given us in the spirit of meekness and love.
