What is this about the tumblr staff wanting to sell art data to midjourney?

An ex-colleague of mine mentioned yesterday that there may be contacts between Automattic and midjourney in that direction, but nothing is public yet and I don't have any more info. They probably won't have anything specific to share either, since they left the company weeks ago too. That being said:

I have no reason to doubt my ex-coworker word, they are a trustworthy person.

Tumblr's CEO has been absurdly enthusiastic (comically, even) about AI, and is a big fan of LLMs and 'AI' companies.

A deal with midjourney could solve tumblr financial issues (not the same company, but openAi is paying up to 5 million/year to news companies to use their content as training data... tumblr generates several orders of magnitude more content than any newspaper or any media company and it only would need a 20 to 30 million per year deal to be profitable)

So I don't have any extra info yet, but I'm keeping my ears open.

Mhm, if you want to see what Gordon Ramsay is really like, watch him on Master Chef Junior. That's who Gordon Ramsay is. Serious, yes, but willing to teach and patient. He'll scold the children, but it's calm and careful because he's teaching them something about safety with food.

Going into Kitchen Nightmares is walking into a new job and acting like you can manage the whole place and then fucking up spectacularly. Your boss walks in and of course when he finds out what you did you're in big fucking trouble.

Walking into Master Chef Junior or any other cooking show where you aren't claiming to be the best, is walking into that same job with that same boss in that same position, but knowing you're just some guy and your boss finds out you struggle with a simple task he can teach you. So he does.

Your boss both times is Gordon Ramsay, the difference is whether you're an absolute idiot who's put themselves in a bad position or just a person trying to learn.

Also note: One time on Hell's Kitchen (where the vibe is very similar to Kitchen Nightmares) Gordon was yelling at someone and accidentally said something that their abusive father said to them. When they started crying, Gordon took them aside to somewhere private, calmed them down, found out what he did to cause this extreme reaction (because they go in knowing he's going to scream) and then gently scolded them for not telling him this specifically so he could avoid harming them so badly.

Gordon Ramsay is a good guy. He just really can't handle dumbasses who are full of themselves.
