As a lesbian i will always relate more to trans women than cishet women. Made to feel disgusting and predatory in women’s spaces? Check. Berated and mocked for our relation to sexuality and womanhood? Check. Hated for our “deviancy from the norm”? Check. Every single essay about womanhood by a trans woman–and especially, especially by trans wlw–has spoken more to me than anything written by a cis straight woman ever could. T*rfs can take that to the bank.
I spent the whole day on the couch wearing my blanket hoodie (it's 70 degrees out) and crying over every episode of modern family that came on (I watched like a whole season)
🎶Just a kid actin' smart
I went and broke my darlin's heart
I guess I was too young to know 🎶
Dallas thinks about it often, how stupid he must have been back in the day to let a girl like Sylvia go. He thinks about it often, but more than just often when he sees her on days like this. When she's confident in what she's doing, sure in her skin, and sitting proud, just like she did all the time when they were kids.
He thinks about how stupid he was, but he also thinks about how smart Shepard was. Sitting and waiting, playing the long game and hanging around, waiting for Dally's turn to be over and for Sylvia to finally realize what a good guy he was.
Admittedly, it took a while - and a kid - for Sylvia to realize Shepard might be the one she really wants to settle down with, but Dallas has to admit, Shepard's play worked out.
He wonders sometimes, not as often as he curses his own stupidity, but often enough, if he and Sylvia would've made it if he'd been just a little bit better, a little bit smarter, a little bit more. He wonders about it sometimes. But he admits too, Sylvia looks a lot happier with Shepard than she ever looks when Dallas wonders about what could've been.
