I think one of the funniest things I’ve accidentally taught my parrot is yelling “WHAT?” The best part is that if he says something weird and and someone else says “what???” he usually repeats what he just said. Like just now, I was cooking in the kitchen and he heard me boiling water so he asked “you wanna noodle?” but I couldn’t quite hear him so I yelled “WHAT” and he repeated “you wanna noodle?”

Mostly he just likes yelling it, though.

being in a small fandom is like being given a bone, chewing on it until you're done with it, burying it in your backyard, and then digging that same chewed up bone months later to continue chewing on it, and then the cycle just repeats.

this is especially true for small fandoms that you know won't be getting any new content, so you just have to consume the content you've already consumed thousands of times before.

So you know how lots of birds just find humans really sexy? Like how they're constantly trying to seduce humans, and if you have pet birds there's whole guides for how to not give your bird mixed signals and make them think you're their mate, and how they keep trying to drive off the partners of their owners/carers as rivals

And people who own or live near these types of birds just kind of have to live with this, like they just gotta accept that that's how birds are and work around it

I like to think that that's how gods feel about the tiresome human propensity to worship them at the drop of a hat

consider the sperm whale and the squid. an ancient rivalry that dates back millions of years. we know the whales eat the squids. we know the squids do not make it easy for them. we know this because of the scars the whales carry, scars on the outside of their body, and on the inside as well. how badly must you want something to endure wounds inside your mouth? inside your gut?

consider the whale, who is harmed by what sustains her. consider the squid, whose flesh is soft and delicious but refuses to go down easy.

when a pelican bites you there's no malice in their eyes. they aren't upset at you. they are just hungry and want to see if you fit in their mouths. and if you don't then it's no problem and everything is fine. and if you do then well i guess your fate is sealed but that's ok it's a beautiful animal

Ever since Feminism has stopped being a nasty word in the mainstream conscience people have been trying to find ways to be antifeminist while sounding progressive and the easiest way, they realized, is to take some of the many valid intracommunity criticisms of the way modern feminism is falling short, raised by actual feminists, and then remove all the nuance and misapply to anything they dislike

Legitimate criticisms of lean in girlboss feminism, which values individual empowerment instead of collective liberation, were flattened into "it's bad when women have ambition and occupy positions of power in our unequal society because these positions shouldn't exist in first place (so until we abolish them only men should have them I guess)"

Valid concerns about white feminism and the lack of intersectionality in feminist discussions were twisted into "if a white woman so much speaks up about her personal experiences with misogyny she's making it all about herself and taking away space from some woman of color somewhere who has it worse (so until women of color are afforded the same attention as their white counterparts white women should just take misogyny quietly and be thankful is not as bad as it could be I guess)"

Awareness about TERF dogwhistles suddenly meant women no longer allowed to express animosity and resentment towards men, their historical oppressors, because "'men' could always be an euphemism for transwoman" even when she's emphatically pro-trans, if not trans herself, because it's not like transwomen don't also have good reasons to dislike men (and it's not like it's transphobic as shit to read the word "men" and immediately assume it actually means transwomen I guess)

And it's not just men doing it, which is all the more maddening

#yup #and it's the same with people thinking any critism of makeup/the fashion industry is inherently misogynistic #I remember things seemed like they were improving for a bit like 10 years before putting on hard breaks and reversing

Every single fic update there is an author trying frantically to find the right balance between a nonchalant aside of "leave a comment if you enjoyed =)" and clinging desperately to the coat tails of a random stranger, dragging along behind them on the street wailing "Please, please! I have to know what you thought! I'm desperate to talk to people about this! Ask me about the alliterative repetition! Ask me about the symbolism!"

Interpret the question however you like, whether it's how you prefer media to interpret it or how you think it would actually work!
