terrible years really make you understand the point of a new year. i know nothing much will have changed between dec 31 and jan 1, but we need to be able to partition off everything that’s happened to us, we need a moment to say, ‘that’s done, we’re done with it, it’s over’ and have a little hope that the future will be different. we need to be able to stop and take a breath and sing, in the middle of winter, and prepare ourselves for spring.

Please stop telling me that the Plastic Lyfe is the only life, it is not. My leather shoes will last a decade where pleather is lucky to last 12 months. Leather (and wool) decompose and are renewable. Plastic is neither of those.

Nazgul HCs for @prainn-of-angmar, as promised!

Er-Murazor is Mairon’s most devoted student of necromancy and is overzealous to the point of annoying his master. Mairon tolerates it because he’s such a powerful mage. He also loves spending time underground and has a variety of excavation projects for various caves underway at any given time.

Khamul is relatively capricious. He’s a tactician for Mairon and is known for his plans that seem insane but work well. Mairon secretly likes him the most since he reminds him of Melkor, both in appearance and in personality.

Dwar is the Nazgul most likely to be found roaming the wilds. He’s a hunter and a beast-tamer, and has an unusually strong kinship with nature. He tends to have a rough personality and keeps to himself.

Ji-Indur is an alchemist, making potions that can save one’s life or kill them within seconds. He’s very methodical and calm, waiting years for his plans to take effect. He has an affinity for logic and persuasion of others.

Ahkorahil is very forthcoming and upfront with his ideas. He always speaks his mind, even when that wouldn’t be the best idea, and he’s skilled with divining magic. Mairon likes him the least out of all the Nazgul for his ambitious and tactless nature.

Hoarmurath has a kinship with the wargs of Mordor and often trains them and hunts beside them. He and Dwar have a close relationship built on their mutual interests. He’s known for keeping to his own strict code of honor and serves Mairon with a fierce loyalty.

Adunaphel is obsessed with weather and storms. She works on magic to control them and has several towers built for better observation of weather patterns. She has a sharp mind and is notoriously unpredictable, with her mood changing wildly and with no discernible cause.

Ren is blessed with the rare gift of being able to see glimpses of the future when presented with a sufficiently large flame to gaze into. He is also an illusionist responsible for many defensive spells around Mordor. He is reserved and mysterious, even to Mairon himself, and maintains a close friendship with Adunaphel despite their conflicting personalities.

Uvatha is in charge of training the armies of Mordor. He’s bloodthirsty even by Nazgul standards and often goes on scouting mission so he can be involved in the fighting. He’s very polite and graceful when in formal settings, but it all goes away when he’s in battle. He often aids Er-Murazor in exploring caverns.

fun funeral facts

embalming, the process of chemically preserving a corpse, is typically not required by law. unless you need to transport the body long-distance or postpone the burial, it’s 100% a vanity thing.

a body still rots in air-tight conditions. so “protective” or “sealed” caskets are basically a scam, and anything fancy like metal is a waste of money.

want a beautiful casket for a viewing, but think burning or burying an expensive piece of hardwood is a waste of money and trees? rentals exist.

you don’t need a coffin for cremation. the minimum requirement is that the body be in a “cremation container,” which is a simple cardboard box.

home funerals are an option. you don’t need to hand the body over to a funeral home, and you can keep their involvement to a minimum.

natural burial sites exist. you can have your unembalmed body straight up thrown in the dirt to be tree food, if you want.

there are a lot of funeral homes that will prey on your ignorance and vulnerability in order to get as much money out of you as possible. they may imply optional certain services are legally mandatory, steer you away from cheaper options, charge additional costs for what’s supposed to be all-inclusive services, etc.

one person’s death is another person’s profit. know your rights, do your research, and apply the same scrutiny you would to any other business.

yavanna’s skin is always growing, shifting, crawling with new life.

aulë is covered in ever-changing tattoos and wears an ever-changing, gilded mask that hides a face you’re certain you never want to see.

varda barely seems there at all, but if you look closely enough you can see the never-ending Void. you can feel it pulling you in, too.

manwë has talons and also several rows of teeth. his bright eyes cut straight through your soul.

ulmo is made of riptides and hurricanes and typhoons. if you’re lucky, he’ll be the fog on an abandoned beach.

oromë drips blood.

tulkas never stops smiling.

vána is always recognizable but never the same.

vairë’s needle-fingers and nessa’s many feet never stop moving, never stop working (click, click, click –)

estë and irmo are linked together. their eyes never open. their mouths move as one.
