have y’all seen whom amazon hired as their “tolkien expert”?? ive just found out and..honestly i didn’t think it’s that bad

her field of study is so specific and is basically all about “alternative” reading of tolkien through the prism of femininity and contesting the binary gender distinction which ..i don’t dig stuff like that. it’s super abstract and offers a lot of space for bullshitting

the funny part tho is that if there was ONE thing that you would expect a scholar exploring ‘femininity and otherness’ to advocate in front of amazon, that would be the androgynous image of elves and dwarven women with beards, both of which are examples of blurring gender binaries. like that’s one job that she had given her field of study and even THAT she couldn’t do. or - she is there for another checkmark: look what an extraordinary young scholar nobody heard of we’ve found, were so amazing :)))

now about her being extraordinary..all her tweets are basically about the issues of race and gender and for someone who is currently a PhD candidate what she tweets is quite laughable and makes it hard to take her seriously.

Not to mention, she only has two academic articles published and only one of them is her actual research and even that is not really related to Tolkien’s work… I can’t believe this is the replacement amazon found for Tom Shippey.. a billion dollar project is consulting someone who sees racism and white supremacy wherever she goes, who cant even advocate what she’s researching and who calls critical fans ‘anonymous internet trolls’

The hilarious thing about Sauron is that according to most versions of the legendarium, he was originally, like, a god of planning and logistics, and he initially supported Melkor’s plans for world domination because he regarded the world’s present state of affairs as inefficient and poorly organised. He’s literally what happens when you take the kid who’s fed up at everybody else fucking up their part of the group project and give him phenomenal cosmic power.
