The Palestinian (1977), dir. Roy Battersby
watch
The documentary Vanessa Redgrave participated in and funded- and as a result the Zionist Jewish Defense League put a bounty on her head and she was blacklisted by Hollywood Zionists after her Oscar speech. Later, the theater where the film was due to screen in LA was bombed by a member of the JDL (June 15, 1978).
VR: Why do the fascists, why do the zionists, why do the imperialists want to defeat the Palestinian revolution?
When Palestine was occupied, the people were not strong, but later they carried arms. Their revolution began. It influenced the world. The Zionists told American imperialism that defeat means imperialism loses its place in Palestine. Other people have joined the revolution. Imperialism, the Zionists, and the Rightists here try to crush the Palestinian revolution and its allies But the Lebanese National Movement is united with it In that struggle together, a man is human, not an animal. It spreads everywhere, people support it In Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Oman The bourgeoisie are afraid. It paves the way. They want to destroy the Palestinian revolution

The Pullman Strike of 1894, led by the American Railway Union, was one of the greatest strikes in American history. Workers were protesting layoffs, low wages, and the high cost of rent in company towns, and it spanned across more than half the states. It was the first time the federal government intervened and (literally) stomped out a strike by sending 10,000 federal troops, and legislation was enacted to make it harder for strikes to occur in big industries like this going forward. But because capitalists doubled down the way they did, it essentially kickstarted the modern American labor movement, which, as we know, led to historical improvements in the workforce. It directly led to Labor Day becoming a federal holiday. And Eugene Debs, who had led the strike, would go on to win nearly a million votes when running for president in prison on the Socialist Party ticket.

Right now, we live under a dictatorship of the capital, where the government answers to the corporations and not its people. We're NOT going to vote ourselves out of this. Even if Bernie was president, we would need mass revolt to bring about significant reform. But, regardless, we have to go further than reform.
Capitalism is a system based on exploitation. Any safeguards you manage to put in place to keep greed under control inevitably erode along with labor laws put in place to prevent said greed. It's why social democracies-societies with highly regulated capitalism, where workers' rights are strong and everything is unionized, eventually turn neoliberal states. The US arguably was a social democracy once, after FDR's New Deal, and look where we are now. That's one of the main reasons why we say "you can't reform capitalism." Because a) we believe there's no acceptable level of exploitation, and b) under it, the odds will inevitably end up in the capitalists' favor.
So, as a "leftist," you have to decide, if when revolting, whether you want to keep capitalism around and temporarily get it regulated for the majority of its workers to live under, or to end the textbook definition cycle of insanity once and for all and seize the means of production from the capitalist class for the working class. Because if we don't, it will undoubtedly be the end of us. It may already be regardless.

The top thirty percent of Americans make more than 100k a year, while the bottom 50 percent make less than 35k. 60% of that 50%, (so 30% of Americans total), make less than 25k. And the 1% makes 16 times more than the bottom 50%. We live in the richest country in the world, corporations are making record profits, and we're experiencing the biggest wealth divide in American history, and notably the biggest of any developed nation.

The guy who Bezos called “not smart, or articulate" and regarded as having no chance in successfully organizing against him is now the president of Amazon's first Labor Union. Keep that in mind when you find yourself wanting to doubt yourself or someone else in the face of seemingly overwhelming odds.

One of my obscure show recommendations: I Love Bekka & Lucy. It's a dramedy about two codependent best friends in their early 30s, and it will have you in fucking stitches. It's created and written by a black woman (Rachel Holder), led by two black women (Jessica Parker Kennedy, aka Max from Black Sails, and Tanisha Long). And it's just a criminally underrated series. It won an emmy (Outstanding Actor In A Short Form Comedy Or Drama Series). And yeah, I mean, it's truly obscure- there's no fucking wiki page for it lol. Got an 8.3 on IMDb. You can find the show on YouTube.
