Something about The Lost Boys, a deeply, deliberately queer movie all about vampires (so necessarily obsessed with blood transfer/exchange), where being attracted to the wrong person, taking risks around them, taking their tainted blood into your body, will change your life irrevocably and doom you to death, coming out in 1987, and saying that the real source of the majority of the problems caused by sharing tainted blood is a respectable middle-aged middle-class white man obsessed with power, heteronormativity, and the replication and eternal enshrinement of the nuclear family structure, and that the only way to survive and cure the infection is to destroy him...whoooo.

I don't remember who it was, but I recently saw a post explaining how they thought paul wasn't as "Dumb as most people thought him to be," and I have to agree. I've always felt like Paulie was a lot smarter than he let on. I feel like he's dumb for funnsies. like he just does stupid things because he doesn't care about being serious. he's very head empty because "blonds have more fun" not because he doesn't actually have the brains to do stuff.

I can imagine the boys and Mike in the cave arguing over something, and they turn to David (cause he's the oldest/"wisest"), but he doesn't know either. so they continue to argue. and Paul is off to the side high as senators socks, and he's holding the joint between his fingers and says the answer.

the rest of the boys are like, "...What?"

Paul goes on this whole Wikipedia explanation of why that's the answer, while still holding the joint and talking with his hands (just making smoke go absolutely everywhere)

and the group, especially Mike, is stunned.

Paul absentmindedly goes back to smoking his joint, leaving the group to stare at each other in disbelief

and Paul turns back like, "Do you want me to cite my sources?"
