Mourning Bride AU

Miraculous Ladybug AU where Bridgette Cheng is Marinette’s maternal aunt and Felix Agreste is Adrien’s paternal uncle. They are five years younger than Sabine and Gabriel respectively.

Felix and Bridgette were once part of the Quantic Kids when they all attended Collége Françoise DuPont. They had taken the moniker of Ladybug and Chat Noir, but they were not wielder of the Ladybug or Cat miraculous.

The earrings and ring they wore were created from fragments of Tikki’s and Plagg’s power, which is why their miraculous abilities are different. Marinette’s Lucky Charm involves creation and Adrien’s Cataclysm involves destruction, while Bridgette and Felix’s power involve luck.

After the fall of Papillon, which happened around graduation, the Agreste family moved to London for a safer environment. The rest of the Quantic Kids, Melodie (Allegra), Kid Mime (Claude), Mercury (Allan), and Ladybug (Bridgette), also went their separate ways soon after. Allegra went to Vienna, Claude stayed in Paris, Allan went to New York, and Bridgette went to Quebec.

They are reunited at a class reunion and are paired off with students from Ms Bustier’s class. Allan with Nino, Claude, with Alya, Allegra, with Chloe, Felix with Marinette, and Bridgette with Adrien. Principal Damocles intended to have the older generation teach the current generation about the future and have the current generation make the older generation reminiscent about their school days.

The only time the alumni and the students aren’t together is lunch. Felix wanted to leave but get jumped by Claude and Allan to join their group. Bridgette leaves for the bathroom while the rest of the Quantic Kids talked about the past. Claude and Allan start to tease Felix about Bridgette and Felix, being the frustrated grumpy cat he is, lashes out by inadvertently insulting Bridgette. However Bridgette overhears and runs away with mixed emotions about Felix’s words.

Bridgette gets akumatized and becomes the Mourning Bride. At first glance, the akuma looks like a blushing bride. A pure white dress with a pretty veil that covers a blushing face and a bouquet of roses. When she does the flower toss, the bouquet explodes into a flower petal shower. Whoever gets touched by the petals gets assaulted with sorrow and the feeling of somebody stabbing your heart. They also see the true nature of the akuma as a mourning bride. A black mourning dress with a black veil that covers a tear stained face and a bouquet of pincushion flowers. If you can get close to her, you can hear the bride saying lines from the tragedy “The Mourning Bride” by William Congreve.

The akuma may represent the broken dream of Bridgette getting married to the one she loved but the name also has another meaning. The mourning bride also known as the pincushion flower, means unfortunate attachment or ‘I have lost all’. Bridgette had an unfortunate attachment to Felix that was either romantic or platonic. She also lost all hope of reconciling with Felix.

Student and alumni got caught in the crossfire, including Adrien, who was waiting for his uncle to take him to lunch. Adrien gets hit and could only relive the emotions he had when his mother disappeared, leaving Chat Noir out of the running to help Ladybug. Felix quickly moves Adrien out of the way as Allegra, Claude, and Allan tries to distract Mourning Bride. But Mourning Bride wasn’t interested them, she was heading towards the Eiffel Tower. As Felix carries Adrien away, Plagg decides it’s a good idea to reveal himself to his former holder. Felix gets an aneurysm when he realizes that Adrien is Chat Noir and that he must help Ladybug now.

Plagg tells Felix that he must wield the ring just for today and that he must reunite the rest of the Quantic Kids and bring them to Fu. Felix agrees, but that doesn’t mean he won’t complain along the way. When he asks Plagg where to find the rest of the Quantic team, Plagg only points to Allan, Claude, and Allegra running towards him.

Felix brings the three to Fu, only to see Ladybug there as well. Secrets are revealed about the Quantic Kids to Ladybug. Allegra was Melodie, Claude was Kid Mime, Allan still works as a hero as Mercury, and Felix was Capalus. Capalus is the French name of Cath Palug, a cat who fought against King Arthur, and is found in various literary works like Li Romanz does Franceis, Manuel und Amande, and Vulgate Merlin. Fu asks the former Quantic Kids to team up with Ladybug. They all agree for different reasons, Claude, Allegra, and Allan do for Bridgette while Felix agrees to do for Adrien. Meanwhile Bridgette as Mourning Bride is making her to the Eiffel Tower and causing havoc.

As the team fights against Mourning Bride, the amount of items housing the akuma is growing smaller. It’s not the jewelry that the akuma wears nor is it the veil or bouquet. Ladybug realizes that hidden behind the sheer neckline is something that is creating black veins above Bridgette’s heart. Hawkmoth has akumatized Bridgette’s pacemaker and the only way to remove the akuma is to break it.

Now it’s Felix’s job to break it.
