"H-Hey Gale..." Karlach approached quietly, spoke softly. She still wasn't entirely sure how she was going to broach the subject. But maybe he needs someone to talk to right now...someone in a similar predicament.

"Look, Tav told me what Elminster said to you, about your orb... I know my opinion won't really matter in the end - it's your choice - but I don't think you should go and blow yourself up for Mystra." Karlach sighed. The very idea of it made her angry, but she took a moment to collect herself. "Having that in your chest, it sucks... I get that more than anyone else here... But we gotta live for ourselves, not anyone else."

She attempted a smile. "Plus, you can't go and die on us, you're the best cook we have!"

Though it was a huge relief to find her approaching him despite his overstepping. Unless she was here because he was doing something else untoward...

Dimitri hadn't even realised the tear had fallen from his remaining eye. It was only when he felt Byleth's thumb wipe over his cheek that he felt the smear of damp.

"You always seem to be the one around me when I falter like this..." He murmured, but there was a very weak smile threatening to tug at his lips. "I apologise...it has just been a difficult day..."

It had been the anniversary of that day in Duscur - when he lost his so many. He barely had the time to think about it. It was by intention, he had encouraged the work load to keep his mind busy. But now things were quiet, and night was falling fast. Dimitri hadn't had the time to visit the tomb where his father lay. Or rather, some remnant him.

"Do...Do you need me for something, beloved?" Dimitri asked, wanting so desparately to be distracted from this pain.

       Finn couldn’t help but try to grab Shouya’s attention as he stood around the aquarium. The pups were off with Eric getting lunch and Finn was waiting and getting set up for them. He was already done though and was incredibly bored. He got pretty excited when he noticed his friend not that far away. He gave a wave to Shouya when the other finally noticed him. Staring and making sure he wasn’t too busy before he came over, “Hey! I didn’t know you were working today.”

A cage remained a cage no matter the trinkets it held. She may have had a bed to rest her head and food in her stomach - when she wasn't too distressed to eat it - but she was just as trapped here as she was in Avernus. She had clawed her way back, fought through the Forge and by some miracle managed to survive long enough to return...to this.

How was this saving her? That was the thought she held onto desperately for so long. Astarion wasn't saving her, he was keeping her. She had spoken, argued and even begged but still he stood firm in his beliefs. Eventually, perhaps months into her containment, she began to think about them at a different angle.

He offered immortality. To live in Faerûn without fear and forever... If she just agreed, she could leave these bars...feel the heat on her skin again, the grass under her foot. He promised her that... Right?

The clink of a key in the lock was almost too loud. It had been so quiet for so long. Was this real? Or some form of test? She slowly got to her feet, glancing between the open door and Astarion, as if waiting for permission.

'That's what good dogs do', her General's told her once...Gortash said the same in more eloquent terms. Astarion as he was now gave her the same feeling. Obey, or die. Or rather...stay here even longer. She didn't know which was worse. She took a step toward the door, on edge being in his presence. He...scared her.

"N-No, of course not..." Karlach kept her gaze down as she walked to the door. Her body felt heavy...unused. "Could I... Could I go outside?" Please dont be a test. "Please?"

But no-one was here now...they had simply walked past each other, Dimitri thought to greet her when they noticed the mistletoe... He had kissed her hand and cheek at the most thus far, and they were being escorted at the time so...would it be so wrong to...

"I-I hope you are enjoying the festivities so far..." Dimitri murmured shyly, still wondering whether it was best to pretend they hadn't both noticed the mistletoe. "Sorry I have not had time to see you sooner, there is last minute preparations-..." Surely she did not care for this. He took a nervous glance back up at the plant. "Merry Christmas, Marianne..." He leaned down and tried to kiss her on the cheek, but moreso pecked the corner of her lip.
