Modern! Au zuko things:
Has an entire album in his phone dedicated to you and only you, some were even from way before you were a thing and he was still a love sick loser.
Who am I kidding even after you two become a thing Zuko still is a love sick loser who stares at you lovingly, the hand that his head is propped up on almost gives way once or twice because he’s so lost within your natural self. If you were to catch him during this embarrassing moment, his face would become extremely flustered that you would begin to get worried for his health.
Uncle Iroh would tell you stuff that Zuko admitted to him in confidence while he was crushing hard after you two officially become a thing, you found it adorable and endearing to know that Zuko felt that way and saw you in a light of which you didn’t even see yourself, Zuko on the other hand wanted to die right then and there as he burrows his face into his hands with his ear read as cherries.
During the times when Zuko was crushing hard, his subtlety was nonexistent especially to uncle Iroh, who saw through Zuko’s every interaction with you as a man longing for a love that was unparalleled, unmatched and without equal but more importantly a love that was the purest by all definition. And now as he watched you and Zuko shared sweet smiles, gentle touches of the hands and a abundance of unified joy, he could honestly say that Zuko had found the love he had been chasing after all this time.
Uncle Iroh approving of your relationship would probably be important to Zuko as he loves his uncle dearly and admires him greatly for his infinite wisdom, he was practically Zuko’s father with how much influence he had in the young man’s life.
So needless to say Zuko is ecstatic when Iroh asks him if you’d like to come over for tea sometime soon. He was originally worried about how his uncle would view you but the fact that his uncle liked you made all the worries and fears all worthwhile as he felt that crushing weight lift up from his chest.
Zuko runs warmer then most so he uses this to his advantage to be close to you by holding your hands between his own or by holding you from behind as as he innocently rests his chin on your shoulder.
‘Is there a reason you’re holding me?’ You’d ask.
‘Keeping you warm.’ He’d reply as though the answer was obvious.
‘ I’m warm enough with your hoodie on alone, now this is just overkill, you’re killing your partner with your inhumane body heat Zuko.’ You would joke as you tried to get away from him, only for Zuko to tighten his hold on you and burry his face into your neck, making you squeal at the flurry of kisses he was planting there.
Zuko loves being with you so much to an embarrassing amount but he couldn’t help it! He spent so long avoiding asking you out that now that he’s got you, he wants to spend every possible opportunity to be with you without it coming across as borderline suffocating.
Zuko could spend an entire week with you and it still wouldn’t be enough for him!
Star gazing dates/ picnic dates that are interrupted by a flock of turtle ducks, which makes for great pictures that you would then send to uncle Iroh later on, just as one of the turtle ducks decided to sleep in Zuko’s lap and he’s gone all awkward on trying his hardest not to wake them up. Which meant more pictures were sent to Uncle Iroh. (I just like the idea of turtle ducks being in the modern au. They’re just too cute not to!)

girlyy I was thinking maybe a fic about how reader and zuko are like maybe 25/26 and they have a child already and basically their child got into some trouble and zuko basically scolded the child and the child ran away crying and zuko had these flashbacks of himself as a child and he basically was very disappointed in himself cause he swore he would NEVER be like his father (ozai) and like basically reader just reassures him and tells him its not his fault and so on yk..
I love this reuqest! Thank you, hon. This fic isn’t can only accurate (since they have a son not a daughter) but still, I hope you enjoy it! 💞💓💞
Tumblr media
He was Zuko’s pride and joy; the whole Fire Nation celebrated the day your son was born. The beginning of a new, more peaceful, era for all the nations.
Though there was no doubt that both you and your husband loved your son more than anything in the world, parenthood had its troubles. And being royalty doesn’t relieve any of the pressure to have well behaved, ‘picture perfect’ families. To be Fire-lord, husband, and father? A person was bound to be broke pass there limit of patience.
He was in a general meeting when he heard the commotion, someone yelling out from the court yard. He was going to ignore the noise until he registered it as your voice; then quickly he stood up and opened the double doors. His son, Masako, was running right towards him, dripping wet; you running right behind him yelling while flaring around a towel.
Masako runs right into his middle core, distracted by the other parent calling from behind. When he looks up at see his father’s look of confusion and slight disapproval he stops his running.
“Masako, what are you doing soaking wet? You should be in your classes at this time.” Zuko said calmly as he crossed his arms over his chest.
“But dad! Classes are so boring, so I decided to swim with the turtle ducks instead!” Zuko had to mentally remind himself repeatedly that his sons was only eight and didn’t know better.
“Why are you running away from your mother? Do you know how disrespectful your being. You have the right hand of the Fire Nation running around her own court with a towel. Chasing you.” Zuko usually handled punishments and confrontations with his son well, but when it came to any sort of disrespect, dishonor or just bad behavior towards you? He didn’t stand for that one bit.
“She wants to dry me off with that itchy towel! And I didn’t make her chase me, she chose to.” In an ironic manner, Zuko’s son also crosses his arms over his chest.
You had caught up to the duo, out of breath. But used the towel to dry off the young prince. “Masako. Stop making excuses, and listen to your father.” You say as you begin to pat his robes and skin dry.
“I am not making excuses! Why are you always following me and telling me what to do? Don’t you have other things to do?” Masako had picked up a new found attitude from some classmates in his classes and neither you nor Zuko liked the way he copied the disrespect.
Maybe it was the blazing pressure from the council men in the meeting, or the way his robes seemed to itch and suffocate him and most likely the disrespect from his son toward his own mother; his wife, you. But he popped. More than he ever had towards his son.
“First off, don’t you ever speak to your mother in that tone of voice again, you hear me!” Zuko’s gaze was fierce and unwavering. “Second of all, what in Roku’s good name are you doing avoiding your princely duties? I raised you better than someone who is lazy and takes the easy way out, you have to work hard for what you want! Not avoid it! If you aren’t back in the school house by the time your mother walks back to her quarters, be prepared.”
Masako was shook, never had he ever heard his father be so frustrated with him. Suddenly feeling ashamed and embarrassed for his actions Masako feels tears roll down his cheeks and suddenly he’s sprinting away. You were going to run after him but saw his governess follow him; and there was someone else who would need you more right now.
“Thanks for defending me, I appreciate it Zuko. You know he listens and looks up to you more than he does with me.” You say as you think back to how your son would always look up at his father with eyes of admiration. You look back at your husband and see his face become pale and his expression blank.
“I was too rough. Wasn’t I…?” He says raking his hands through his hair. Suddenly as he reflected on how he spoke to his son, the days that his father would yell and punished him flashed though his mind in horrible hellish memories. The last thing Zuko ever wanted was to anything remote close to his father. “I should have handle the situation with more patience towards him. He’s just a kid.”
You could see him spiral into some self doubt and worry, “We are both new at this to Zuko; your just human. Trust me, he wasn’t crying out of fear but because he felt bad for his actions. That’s how you raise a human to be humble and think about what they say and think.” Parenting was hard enough, now added parental issues? Jeez, you were proud of Zuko who could be so calm all the time. He was definitely better than you in that sense.
“You sure? All I could think about was how Ozai would make me cry when I failed him.” He says leaning against the pillar. “I promised I wouldn’t be anything like that bastard excuse of a father.”
You stroke his back, “your nothing like him. Makado will be back, happy and in school.” You bring his face close to yours and you give him a quick peck on the lips. “Your an amazing father and that kid is the luckiest in in the world to have you as his father.”
Hearing this reassured Zuko, “Thank you, Y/n. I appreciate it.” He brings you in by the waist, “Makado is lucky to have you as his mother. And I am blessed to have you as my wife.”

The candles flickered calmly. Increasing and decreasing with your steady breathing. Eyes closed, you laid on the bed, arms behind your head. Chest rising and falling with your breathing as the candlelight mimicked it. You weren’t thinking of anything specific. Okay maybe about how much longer that meeting was going to last. It felt like ages since you’ve seen Zuko. Always occupied with his fire lord duties. Meetings here, visitations to the fire nation there, seeing the avatar in between.
It had his perks but also his downside. You couldn’t accompany him on everything, resulting in solitude you hated and loved at the same time. Sometimes some peace and quiet felt nice, on other times it felt like a curse. Wrecking your heart slowly as you needed human interaction, specially Zuko’s. Sighing deep the candlelight’s in the room nearly went out.
Just a tiny flame till it flickered back up. You wondered how Zuko would be during those meetings. Would he be extremely serious? His face sour the entire time so people knew he meant business or would he rather act nervous. Stumble a bit over his words and think of what Uncle Iroh would say. Just thinking about it, you chuckled loud.
A sound filling the silence, it felt a bit forbidden. Bringing your fingers to your lips, you opened your eyes letting your gaze cross the ceiling in hesitation. It shouldn’t feel wrong, yet it felt like this. Having been for so long in the silence made one almost insane at hearing a sound. Conversating with yourself felt strange anyways, so solitude in silence it was. Closing your eyes again, you settled down. Easing your way through the wait. The wait any sign of his return.
Hopefully he would come straight to here. Please. Becoming a bit bored, you removed one hand from behind your head. Swaying it around while a tiny swirl of fire played around your fingers in a swift motion. It occupied you for a bit, till you got startled. The door opened as the flames in the candles burned bright. Reaching high with force as it made you jump upright. Turning your head you saw Zuko had entered.
Kicking his shoes off as it dropped onto the floor. – “Zuko!” – you called out, catching his attention. You gestured at the flames nearly reaching the ceiling. – “Oh…” – he softly said. He took a moment to compose himself. Steadying his breathing from the whirlwind that had entered. His breathing slowed down so did the flames. Zuko sighed deep, rubbing his neck exhausted.
Tossing your legs over the edge, you sat up, making room for him. Zuko dragged himself up to the bed, letting himself fall down. The moment he sat down, he fell further down on his back. Flopping his arm over his head with a loud sigh. You came laying beside him, elbow in the matrass as you rested your chin on your knuckles. – “That dreadful?” – you asked. Zuko lowered his arm a bit to look at you.
He smiled faintly at the smile you were giving him. Zuko sighed again, sitting back up. You slowly removed your hand from underneath your chin, sitting up yourself. He let his face fall into the palms of his hands. You leaned against him, letting your fingers go smoothly through his hair. – “You are doing a great job, fire lord. The fire nation values a great leader as you.” – you whispered at him. Zuko lifted his head a bit up, chuckling. You nudged him for laughing at you. – “You are!” – you made clear pressing your hand down on his shoulder.
“If you say so Y/n.” – Zuko chuckled out with a silly smile. Not pleased with his way of words, you got up, giving him the cold shoulder. Zuko exhaled deep, getting up as well. – “I know you speak the truth. You always do Y/n.” – Zuko said approaching you from behind. He touched your shoulder with caution, not sure how you’d react. When you accepted it, he wrapped his arms around you from behind. – “I know I always speak the truth.” – you replied holding your hands over his around you.
Zuko started to gently sway sideways with you, his chin resting on your shoulder. – “Sometimes you sound like Uncle Iroh…” – he said leaving room for a pause. – “It surprises me still.” – he continued. You moved your shoulder up to make his head lift up from your shoulder. – “I take that as a compliment.” – you said with a smile. – “You should.” – Zuko replied leaving a kiss on your shoulder. You turned round in his embrace. – “Do you know what you need?” – you asked with a silly smirk. – “No…” – Zuko answered hesitant of that mischievous smile of yours.
“A kiss.” – you filled in. Zuko smiled sheepishly. – “I think I need two.” – he said thinking briefly. – “Two?” – you blurted out. Zuko hummed loud. – “And that is me keeping it downsized for the fire lord deserve a whole lot more.” – he said playing the fire lord card. – “Oh so that is how it is going to be.” – you replied teasingly. Zuko hummed loud with pride. He quickly stole the first kiss from you before you could deny him from it.
It made you gasp loud, pointing shocked at him. That made Zuko laugh even more. Narrowing your eyes, you wanted to wipe that smile of his face. You tilted your head to the side, holding up two fingers. – “Kiss number two.” – you said. Zuko readied himself by leaning in closer. You did the same watching as he closed his eyes. Eager to receive another kiss from you. You kept leaning in, till you stopped and smirked.
Your hands dove to his side, tickling him. Zuko started laughing loud, jumping around at your ticklish hands. This was not at all what he had in mind. – “Y/n!” – he called out once you stopped briefly. – “What?” – you said innocently. – “I’m taking you back on that.” – he said. – “You’ll have to catch me first.” – you replied moving away from him. Zuko went after you, chasing you around the room. When you ran passed he grabbed you by your clothing, pulling you towards him. In his grip, he started to tickle you with all his might.
Your laughter bordered the room with intensity of pitch. Your feet bouncing off the ground as you needed an escape. Body squirming for a way out of it. Zuko kept tickling you making you fall onto the bed. He stopped briefly to check if you were alright. When he saw you puff loud and try to recover, he dove right back in. Jumping on the bed with you to finish his final blow. You never stood a chance.
Laugh so loud it cackled out. Feet kicking around as your body squirmed, begging for mercy. With tears of laughter in your eyes, you couldn’t speak. – “Zu…Zu…ko.” – you called out. Without realizing a pigs snort filled the room as your laugh had taken a drastic turn. It made Zuko stop, hands up in the air. His sudden stop made you wipe your tears of joy away.
For a split second it made you insecure you even produced such a sound. Then he grinned. – “Your laugh. Oh my God!” – he said loudly. You looked shy away, thinking he was mocking you. He tilted his head asking for your attention again. You slowly turned your head to him, seeing him still smile.
“Do it more.” – he whispered. The surprise of his answer made you bashful. Then without a warning dove he right back into the tickling, handling you once more. You laughed loud, defenseless against his tickling hands. It was if he almost had a goal here. He started tickling you more till more pig snorts came out of you, unable to control your own laughter with your breathing.
Zuko was smiling down at you till he stopped tickling and bend down to kiss you. A quick one since you were out of breath. He allowed you to catch your breath till he kissed again. Hands going up your waist to your back. – “I surrender.” – you told him, not wanting any more. If you received any more, you were for sure you’d burst. Zuko let himself fall beside you breathless. Glancing to the side, he quickly decided to wrap his arms around you and pull you closer.
You snuggled up to him, laying in his arms. – “Where did I deserve you Y/n?” – he mumbled. – “By simply being yourself.” – you responded with a smile. Zuko stroke your cheek, staring lovingly at you. – “I love you Y/n.” – he whispered. – “I love no one else.” – he wrapped his arms tighter around you, not wanting to let go. – “And I love only you Zuko.” – you answered holding on tight.

zuko x waterbender reader in which someone from team avatar walks in on them kissing?
i feel like it’d be funny idk lol 😂
a/n: i love this trope it’s so funny. also it’s like subtly mentioned reader is a water bender since i didn’t wanna just shove it in there awkwardly. anyway hope you enjoy!
summary: a private moment between you and your boyfriend is interrupted by your unsuspecting friends
Tumblr media
“Are you sure no one saw you come in here?”
“Yes, I’m sure,” Zuko says with a huff after closing the flaps of your tent. “You know, I’m starting to think you’re embarrassed to be seen with me.”
“You know that’s not true,” you argue with a frown. “I just enjoy having some privacy. I know those guys are going to make a big deal about us being together, and I just want to enjoy our relationship without having to deal with any prying eyes.”
“I know,” he admits with a sigh. “I’m just tired of sneaking around. Do you know how difficult it is not to kiss you or check on you after a fight with my sister? It’s torture.”
“It’s just until the war is over. There’s a lot at stake right now, and it would be a weird time to come clean. It’ll be over before you know it.”
“I hope you’re right,” Zuko murmurs with a frown, one that immediately melts away at the feel of your arms wrapping around his midsection. It’s hard to be upset when you’re smiling up at him with the purest look of adoration in your eyes. Despite everything, all of his flaws and mistakes and cruelty, you love him, and it fuels the warmth inside of his heart knowing he has someone like you. Maybe he would have joined the Avatar and his friends sooner if he knew it would lead him to you.
“At least we’re finally alone,” he notes with a faint smile before leaning down to press his lips against your own in a long awaited kiss. He hasn’t been able to give or receive affection all day, and it isn’t until now with your chest pressed against his own that he’s finally able to truly feel relaxed.
Unfortunately, you’re both too engrossed in each other to notice the rustling of your tent flaps as Sokka and Toph let themselves in without a second thought.
“Hey, y/n, Toph and I are gonna head into town, do you want to- oh, gross!” He cries after catching Zuko and yourself mid lip lock.
You both jump at the intrusion, knocking your head together on accident and groaning in unison at the impact.
“Sokka!” You cry out in embarrassment. “Monkey feathers, don’t you knock?!”
“It’s a tent! There is no knocking!” He yells back defensively, equally as upset as you are. “I can’t believe you guys were kissing!”
“We weren’t kissing,” Zuko argues, his face red with embarrassment. “We were… hugging… with our… mouths?”
“Oh, spirits,” you groan, your palm hitting your forehead in embarrassment at Zuko’s horrible attempt at lying. For a Prince, he has a terrible way with words. You’d think all that time spent with his Uncle would make his vocabulary more eloquent.
“If Toph could see she’d be very upset right now!” Sokka scolds, but the girl beside him simply shrugs.
“Actually, this works out great for me. Katara owes me five gold pieces now,” she says with a grin.
“You guys knew they were dating and didn’t tell me?!” The water tribe boy says in offense.
“I had a hunch, but Katara disagreed, so we made a bet.”
“Enough already! This is mortifying enough as it is,” you groan impatiently. “Sokka, we’ll talk about this later. For now, I need both of you out!”
After getting the two to leave the tent, you shut it closed with an irritated sigh. You’re absolutely humiliated, and you don’t think you can show your face to your friends ever again.
“So much for keeping it a secret,” the fire bender mutters.
“You,” you say with an accusatory finger pointed at the Prince, “need to learn how to lie better.”
“I know,” he admits meekly, awkwardly scratching the back of his neck. Sighing, you open your water pouch and tend to the growing bump on his head from your previous collision. You can’t stay mad at him when he looks so flustered and sweet, so instead you merely throw your arms around his neck and pull him back in for another kiss.
You can focus on coming clean later. For now, you just want to enjoy your moment of peace with the boy you love.

I blame @valeskafics for reviving my zuko brain rot with that modern!Zuko post! How dare 💜💕
If there’s one thing that you’ve come to learn about Zuko and that’s the fact that he doesn’t own clothes made to keep him warm. He has a plethora of jackets but they’re the thin kind of jackets that wouldn’t protect you from even the smallest of chilly breezes.
When you asked him about this when you first started dating, he only shrugged and said ‘I run too hot for those fleece jackets to ever feel the need to own one of them. I’m warm enough for the both of us as it is.’ Which is true. Zuko ran abnormally hot for a normal human being but that was one of the reasons why you loved cuddling up to him when it’s cold.
‘What happened to those warm blankets you normally bundle up in when you’re cold?’ Zuko asked as you proceed to cuddle yourself deeper into his side.
‘I just happen to have found something better in keeping me warm.’ You replied cheekily as you pressed a kiss to his cheek before you burrowed your face into his chest. Zuko sighs as he looks away from you to hide his flushed cheeks from sight as he smiled dopily, still not entirely use to an over abundance of affection directed towards him in a positive and healthy manner.
‘So what I’m hearing is that I’ve been demoted to your personal body warmer?’ He says rhetorically.
‘Think of it more as a promotion from my extremely warm boyfriend to extremely warm boyfriend who doubles as a personal body warmer.’ You replied, tightening your hold on him as you leeched more warmth off of him. ‘Don’t you find it dangerous?’ Zuko asks as he opened his palm to a small flame. It was practically harmless in your eyes, but Zuko always ingrain into you of the destructive power that even the smallest of flames possessed.
‘No.’ You answered honestly as you reached a hand to hold the back of his own that housed the small flame, enticed by its beautiful colours and flickering image with every movement being made. ‘Not really because I trust you more than I probably trust others.’ You added softly as you looked over at Zuko who was already looking back at you with a soft look in his eyes and an even softer smile. ‘Sounds like you should reevaluate that if you’re willing to put your trust in me.’ He said, pressing a kiss to your forehead.
‘No I don’t think I will ever want to reevaluate who I put my full trust in.’ You told him truthfully as you helped close his hand, extinguishing the flame as trails of smoke drifted upwards, only to dissipate before it could even reach the ceiling. ‘I’d like to think I am a sound judge of character and I defiantly don’t regret saying yes when you asked me out.’ You then kiss Zuko on the nose and felt his breath hitched in his chest. Zuko always has the cutest reactions to many things, but when it came to being some love and affection, those reactions were the ones you happen to love the most.
‘Then I hope to never make you second guess your choice to trust me with your heart.’ Zuko replied with a smile as he pressed a sweet kiss to your lips.
‘You never do, now be a good personal body warmer and let me leech off your warmth some more.’ You joked as you snuggled yourself into him and felt him place his arms over your waist, rubbing the skin that had been revealed when your nightshirt raised up a little, causing you to sigh under his touch as sleep slowly began to weigh heavily on your eyelids.

Jasmine Tea and Cakes
Paring: Zuko x Reader
TYPE: suggestion. Fluffy
WARNINGS: none.
Summary: While on a mission as a spy for the Fire Nation in Ba Sing Sa you go to a shop for tea, and who do you find? Your childhood bestfriend who was banned the night you were planning to confess.
Parts: Here is where this suggestion stemmed from, though that and this fic can both be read as stand alones.
Tumblr media
Thank you @icantwaittoliveandlearn for the motivation and inspiration of this fic!
Message: I’m back from the dead! Updates will be slow but I’m coming back to my rhythm, I had been unmotivated and overwhelmed but, here, a peace offering a fluffy Zuko Fic.
It’s been months but it’s felt like years since you had to watch Zuko and uncle Iroh leave the Fire Nation and be in search of the Avatar.
You tried busying yourself in the mean time, but every time you tried your mind would subconsciously rear itself back to Zuko; back to the conversation both of you had the night before he left and the day he lost in the Agni Kai. You worried that he would lose himself while trying to earn back his honor but you trusted that Iroh would always steer him back on the right path. ——-
While Zuko was away, the Fire Nations hunger for domination grew and the main target was Ba Sing Sa. You were told the infiltration would happen from inside the great Earth city. Hence why you and a couple other Firebenders were sent to live undercover in the city for a week. You only agreed to this order because you saw it as a means to escape the Fire Nation undetected. You didn’t want to spend another second in the country that had such a man as Ozai as its leader and voice of reason.
You had been making your plans, and on Friday you planned to abandon the mission and make your way to an earth village away from the big city.
While spying, or more accurately said, exploring; the city you found many intriguing things. Such as the spices and herbs, the cuisine and clothing. It was all so new and exciting, you were truly enjoying yourself. You had also gotten into the habit, since arriving, to go a new restaurant every night; to take advantage of the little time you’d have in the capital. Tonight’s restaurant was a tea shop that you had heard from many locals and tourist, was absolutely delicious sweets and bliss teas.
When you reached the street the little shop was sat at, you could already smell the jasmine, chamomile, ginger and spearmint seeping from its windows and front entrance. When you walked in you immediately noticed the calm ambient and staff. This place was sure to live up to its expectations.
“Hello, Ms! Please have a seat anywhere you like, one of our waiters will be with you shortly.” One of the staff members says smiling as they served customers and spoke to you.
“Thank you.” You say before making your way to a table by a window with a good view of the street from the seat. You peered over the menu, reading the plethora of tea and cake options.
“I’m Lee, your server. What do you want to order?” Suddenly a bored and rather irritated voice asks.
You put the menu down to get a look at this Lee who’s voice held such attitude and sass. When you look up you instantly recognize the face, and scar. “Zuko?” You ask quietly making sure your eyes aren’t deceiving you and it really was the boy you haven’t stopped worrying about since you last saw him.
When the server boy sees your face that was originally obscured from the menu he drops his note pad and pen and his eyes widen. “Y/n?” He breaths with disbelief.
At hearing your name you stand up and throw your arms around Zuko into a hug, without missing a beat he wraps his arms around your torso and brings you in closer.
Muffled by his face buried in your shoulder Zuko mumbles, “I’ve missed you, Y/n.”
“Me too. A lot.”
You both pull away from each other and you can’t help but notice how well his scar has healed; and how confident Zuko looks once again. “What are you doing here, Zuko?” How in the world did he end up working in a tea shop; how ironic.
“Well after the search for the Avatar, Azula was on our trail and one thing lead to another- now I work at a tea shop and Uncle Iroh has a bumming business.” He says humbly as he takes his hand through his hair. “But how are you here?”
“Long story short, I was offered to spy from the inside of Ba Sing Se and I only agreed as an opportunity to leave behind all ties with the Fire Nation.” You say almost proud of the plan that you’ve made.
“Your going to become a runaway?” He asks shocked, “that’s what you want? You know if they catch you-”
You signal him to calm his rambling, “I know the consequences and outcomes, and I am taking the risk. Because it’s worth it.” You say smiling reassuringly. “Now tell me everything that’s happened since we’ve last saw each other! I bet you’ve had amazing adventures and have visited new places.” You say excited, as you sit him in the seat across from you to hear everything you’ve missed since the banishment.
Midway through one of his stories you hear and can see the character growth the boy before you underwent. He changed. It showed in the way he spoke calmly and slowly, the way his shoulder relaxed when he spoke, and most obvious to you, the way his eye were clearer. No longer fogged by his father’s ideology or pressure. He has bettered himself and though you know it was hard, you were so proud, because he did it for himself.
“LEE! We are twelve orders behind what is holding you up?” Iroh’s voice booms as he walks out of the kitchen with trays full of orders. When he looks across the room he stops when he sees his nephew seated across from you. “Y/n?” When he sees you smile, he knows it’s you, “Y/N!” Quickly he runs over and engulfs you in a huge.
“Uncle Iroh!” You say just as happy to see the man who practically raised you alongside Zuko.
“What a lovely suprise! Here,” he places a beautiful blue tea cup with delicate drawings of flowers and vines along with its matching saucer in front of you, “Tea is often best enjoyed with the company of others. You two catch up, I’ll wrangle down another server to help with the orders.”
“Thank you, Uncle.”
“Thank you, Iroh!”
You take a slow sip, the hot liquid warms you up and the honey it’s mixed with a nice balm as it glides down while you swallow. “Mmmhm. Just as good as always.” You smile, “Ok, what was it you were saying about a secret tunnel?”
Zuko who was completely distracted by your look of happiness blurts, “I missed you.”
Your smile reaches your eyes as you set your hand over Zuko’s, “Me too.”
Quickly awaken from his trance by the physical touch he embarrassedly asks trying not to stumble over his words, “What was it you wanted to know again?”
“Everything, Zuko. Everything.”

Concept: Fire Lords traditionally dress like the stages of the sun to match their reign.
When Zuko is first crowned, he dresses in the colours of dawn. Bright yellows and pinks and even purples. He starts to wear more traditional crimson-and-gold robes after a few years, the colours of midday when Agni is at his strongest. And towards the end of his reign, when he's getting ready to pass the crown onto Izumi, he starts dressing like the setting sun.

Tumblr media
There were loud knocks on the door to your cabin. It made you lift your head up. You didn’t respond immediate as the next following knocks turned into banging. – “Gentle, gentle.” – you heard a muffled voice speak from the other side. There was a deep sigh, followed by a gentle knock. Almost too gentle. – “Yes.” – you responded having kind of clue of who was at the other side.
“Are you done staying inside?” – It was Prince Zuko speaking at the other end. – “No.” – you responded hearing Zuko barely loose his temper on the other end. – “Calm, calm now nephew.” – you recognized it was Iroh’s voice, soothing the prince’s temper.
You heard some movements till Zuko’s temper took over. – “Then perish inside!” – he yelled at the door as you saw the light of flames through the cracks. Jumping up you went up to the door. – “I will!” – you shouted back in frustration. There was a loud groan with a hard stomp against your door. Startling you away from the door.
Footsteps died out It made you near the door again, holding your ear against it. Once the storm had passed, you exhaled deep. You knew you couldn’t stay in your cabin. It wasn’t deliberately, but you sometimes wanted to avoid Zuko.
Almost at every occasion were you forced together in close proximity. The waterbending princess promised to him. A peace treaty between nations. Honestly you didn’t know what possessed Fire lord Ozai to accept your father’s proposition of simply handing you over on a silver platter to his son.
Being on Zuko’s ship for almost four years now, you had a bit of a clue. Perhaps the fire lord accepted it, to taunt Zuko more. A way of shaming him further against his nation. Water and fire weren’t meant to be together. It was an extra nudge to keep Zuko out of the fire nation. If he wasn’t so bad tempered you might feel sympathy for him.
Opening the door, you decided to head out. Probably the first in days. You missed the ocean breeze, the salty water, the cold, the moon. You missed everything that felt close to you. Looking cautiously around for Zuko, you snuck your way up to the deck. Feeling the breeze on your skin, you inhaled deep. Composed you went to the railing, holding tight to it. Feeling the rocking of the ship on the water, you leaned back to take it in.
With a satisfying breath, you looked up to the moon. The deck was mostly empty. Most soldiers below deck. Playing some cards or drinking. It was a bit too quiet as you missed the buzzing life of your village. Leaning with your chin on your arms by the railing, you stared into the water. Wondering how your tribe was doing without your presence.
“What are you doing here?” – A loud voice raged. You jumped up, startled to bone. Turning your posture a bit, you saw Zuko braising as he came your way. You rolled your eyes at him. – “Make up your mind where you want me.” – you replied raising your voice a bit as well. Zuko puffed up his chest with anger, standing face to face with you. His hands radiating heat. His gaze scanning yours. He hated how vulnerable your gaze was. Soft and mesmerizing as the moon.
A wind picked up from the east as it made you shiver. Zuko noticed it, observing you. – “Fetch the princess a blanket!” – he yelled without a glance away from you. From behind Zuko at the other side, you saw a soldier rush to get you a blanket. You tilted your head a bit. – “Your uncle isn’t looking.” – you told him.
Knowing he only showed kindness when his uncle forced him to be civil. – “I know.” – Zuko responded with a soft glare. The soldier returned with a blanket as Zuko snatched it from his hands. He rose his hands, intending to place the blanket over your shoulders as he stopped himself. He caught himself being nice. Showing a weakness, he couldn’t afford.
He brought his hands back to his chest, throwing the blanket at you. You caught it when it hit your chest. – “How gentle of you.” – you said sarcastic, putting the blanket over your shoulders. Zuko huffed loud as he staid in your presence. Close as it made you uncertain at this point. What was he still doing around you? He never staid this long around you. Not if it wasn’t forced on him.
There was a rumble in the sky followed by a strong gush of air. It knocked you right against Zuko’s chest. His hand subtle on your back as the wind kept blazing through. Zuko’s eyes lit up, lowering his hand on you. From the corner of your eye, you saw a bright blue light.
Making you turn around to bestow upon the beam of light in the sky. – “What is that?” – you asked a bit nervous and frightened. Unconsciously you leaned back, coming in touch with Zuko’s chest. Zuko stepped back as you felt the loss of touch. He started ordering commands to his crew to set coarse to the beam of light. It might be a clue for his search for the Avatar.
The ship neared the village of the southern water tribe. It cracked the ice open when it steered frontal through it. The village nearing. Zuko stood on deck. Uncle Iroh a step behind him to the side. You stood beside Zuko, your fiancé. With worry, you looked up to him. – “Stay on the ship.” – he said firm, keeping his hands behind his back. – “but…” – you started. – “Stay here!” – Zuko yelled at you, making you gulp nervously. – “Zuko!” – Iroh called out.
“Show the princess some kindness.” – he told him with a soft glare. Zuko breathed with a scoff. He lowered himself a bit to speak to you like a he would do to a little child. – “That’s an order from your prince.” – he made clear. Something you caught in his eyes, made you see a smidge of desperation in him. Did he perhaps think you’d stay here with the people of your own kind?
That once you left the ship, they’d see you as a prisoner and claim you as theirs? Before you could think of it more, had Zuko turned away. Zuko accepted his helmet from one of his men, following them. Iroh came joining your side as you watched Zuko and his men descend onto the ice. – “Best to stay out of a fight, princess.” – he said to you.
Being on the ship was boring. You hardly had any sight of what was happening down at the village. You saw flashes of fire as you hoped Zuko wouldn’t burn down the village. It was small. Smaller than any village you had known. You had lost sight of Iroh. He was probably up on the high deck to overlook the happening. A gush of wind made you bring your hands up to protect your face. – “An airbender?” – you questioned.
Hadn’t they gone instinct? For over a hundred years there haven’t been an airbender. – “The Avatar!” – you heard the soldiers shout in unison. – “The Avatar.” – you gasped in shock. Looking up, you knew Iroh’s eye was on Zuko. As it always was. You duck down, rushing to the railing. Below the ice had cracked where the ship had broken through.
Grabbing the railing, you jumped over it, swaying your hand up. A trail of water spiralled up, flowing around you as it slowed your descend. Your feet hit the ice as the water splashed on the ice. Ignoring Zuko’s order, you needed to see it for yourself.  Keeping yourself low to avoid Iroh spotting you, you snuck up in haste to the village.
You neared the entrance of the village, eyes wide with shock of what you saw. People running around. The soldiers causing fires to scare them into handing over the Avatar. You snuck into the village trying to look for the Avatar. A deranged fire blast went your way as it hit an igloo near you. The impact made you duck down, receiving some exploded ice on your back.
“It isn’t save here!” – A boy called out, taking your hand as he pulled you away from the burning igloo. He came to a stop, taking a moment to fully look at you. – “Who are you?” – he asked, still holding your hand. You panicked pulling your hand out of his and taking a run for it. – “Hey!” – the boy called out coming after you.
He knew everyone from his village, yet you were unfamiliar. He got stopped in his tracks by fire. Looking over his shoulder, he saw his sister. – “Katara hide!” – he shouted with a wave of his arm. You came to a stop seeing the Avatar in the air. Never did you think you’d see the Avatar.
Your gaze got pulled away by a hard pull on your wrist. Forcing you to look another way. Zuko’s way. – “You ignored my order!” – Zuko shouted at you, tugging hard on your wrist. You tried pulling your wrist out of his grip as he held it tight. – “I’m not your soldier!” – you yelled back at him. Zuko glared at you. – “Get back to the ship!” – he ordered with anger. – “I will stay!” – you stood your ground, not wanting to leave. – “Y/n! Get. To. The. Ship.” – he repeated trying to compose himself.
Feeling himself boil with anger over you. Angry that you deliberately ignored his order. You pulled your wrist out of his grip with force. – “I didn’t sign up for this!” – you replied with fury. – “For what?” – Zuko fired back. – “These are my people Zuko!” – you told him. – “I just want the Avatar!” – he responded. In the corner of his eye, he saw a spear heading your way. Zuko tensed his jaw, grabbing you as he tackled you to the ground. Rolling over in the snow as the spear flew over your heads.
You laid in the snow, feeling Zuko half on top of you. His hand protective on your head. He pulled you up as he created fire, bending it towards the tribe member who threw the spear at you. – “Zuko!” – you called out, pushing his arm down. – “The ship now!” – Zuko yelled with a rage unlike you had ever seen. Before you knew it, grabbed two of his men you by the arms. Dragging you out of the village back to the ship.
**
“Stay with the princess!” – Zuko ordered one of his men. They bowed as a response. – “Don’t let her out of your sight.” – he added tracking up the hill. Iroh right behind him. You followed in line as Zuko lead the expedition to capture the Avatar. Having been spotted on Kyoshi island. – “The Avatar is mine.” – Zuko said out loud.
Up on the hill was a bright blue light shining. Hinting the Avatar was up there. Up ahead you saw a water tribe girl take a stand as defence. She let her arms sway, letting a whip of water splash at Zuko’s feet. Zuko stopped, pulling his foot up to see the wetness on his shoes. – “Pathetic.” – he called out.
The girl furrowed her brows at the sight of you. – “Stand aside girl.” – Zuko ordered. The girl moved her hands up. – “You’ll have to go through me.” – she replied. Zuko laughed. – “That won’t be a problem.” – he answered preparing himself. He fired at her as she fell backwards onto the grass. A sudden gush of wind made you all look away. Zuko’s eyes widened when Avatar Kyoshi landed in front of them. With one wave of her fan, were you all pushed back by air. Falling back.
“Protect the princess!” – Zuko shouted as he tried to get back up. The soldier enlisted to keep you save, pulled you up by your arm. Dragging you away from the others. He led you down the hill through the woods. You had little time to stand still and think about what was happening. Soon you neared the town as the soldier kept a grip on you, looking constantly over his shoulder. You froze when a fan flashed at him, hitting him in the head. It knocked him down.
Your gaze met up with a young girl looking a lot like Avatar Kyoshi with her make-up. The same boy from the water tribe at her side. – “Hey I know you!” – he said with a confused point at you. – “You were at my tribe too.” – he stated with furrowed brows. You turned around taking a run for it. – “Hey wait!” – Sokka called out, coming after you with Suki. You stopped, brought your hands up your face, then you pushed them forwards. The crackling of ice sounding. Sokka and Suki looked down, their feet slippery on ice.
“She can bend.” – Suki told Sokka out of breath. Suki grabbed Sokka by his shirt, pulling him off the ice. They went back in pursuit. In the woods, you couldn’t tell the direction apart. Not knowing where it might lead you. – “Hey wait!” – Sokka shouted to get your attention. Panting you tried to stay ahead of them. You screamed when you nearly bumped into the girl that came out of nowhere. You fell back, caught off guard. – “Katara get her.” – Sokka called out, out of breath.
Katara took a stand, ready to whip you with water if you dared to move. – “Why are you with the fire nation?” – she asked rudely. Suki extended her hand to you as you accepted it, letting her help you up. – “Are you their prisoner?” – Sokka questioned as you remained silent. – “There’s no need to be scared.” – Suki spoke rubbing her hand on your back, soothingly. – “We’ll save you.” – Sokka responded proudly. Before you knew it, were you dragged along with them.
Zuko was panting, taking a look around. – “Where is the princess?” – he asked loud. All his men looked at each other uncertain. Zuko felt himself grow angrier. – “Where is Y/n!” – he shouted unleashing fire from his fists. – “Don’t worry Zuko, we’ll find her.” – Iroh said to sooth him. – “Find her!” – Zuko ordered to his men. – “Burn this entire island down if you must to find her!” – he moved his fist forward, a blast of fire hitting a tree as it set it on fire. His men scattered away in search of you. – “We’ll find her Zuko…” – Iroh spoke placing a hand on Zuko’s shoulder. Zuko brushed his hand harshly off. He was panting. Braising with anger that he had lost sight of you.
If this would’ve happened years ago, he would just leave, being glad to be rid of you. Now, he felt like he couldn’t. You weren’t around him for a few moments and he already missed the argues with you. He missed your presence, more than he would ever admit. It wasn’t easy being forced on this mission with someone you were signed up to marry. Yet you were there. Day in and out. You were there at every step of the way. The water tribe princess he learned to admire… in secret.
Admitting it to himself that he actually… cared was scary. You were a weakness. You still are a weakness to him. One he didn’t intended on. Zuko called it out, burning the trees nearby. A tree’s trunk cracked. The top bush falling to the side. Zuko narrowed his eyes when he saw something familiar blue trotting up the hill. Instead of one, he recognized three. Taking in deep breaths, he bald his hands into fists.
He called it out as the fire coming out of him startled Iroh. It was blazing hot. Iroh saw it now as well, swallowing nervously. – “Zuko…” – he started moving his hand forwards. Before he could reach Zuko, had Zuko ran off. Huffing and puffing with anger to get you back. The grass catching fire from where he passed. His wrath waiting to be unleashed.
“So why were you with the fire nation?” – Katara asked as she pushed you up the hill. – “It’s complicated.” – you answered. – “How is it complicated?” – Sokka asked scratching the back of his head. – “It’s…” – you started cut off by loud shouting. You leaped aside when a fire blast went your way. Looking back at the trail, you saw Zuko panting with anger. His fist out where the fire blast had come from.
“He’s back!” – Sokka called out, helping his sister back up. Sokka then rushed over to you, helping you up. – “We have to go.” – he told you. Zuko fired once more, preventing them from going further up the hill. – “You are not going anywhere with her!” – he made clear. Sokka pulled you behind him. – “She’s not your prisoner!” – Sokka shouted at Zuko.
“No.” – Zuko replied composing himself a bit. – “She’s my intended.” – he said out loud making Sokka’s jaw drop, gawking at Zuko. – “Now hands off before I burn you!” – Zuko threatened. Sokka immediately pulled his hands off you, having no intention to die. Zuko’s gaze met up with yours, softening as he extending his hand to you. – “Please…” – he asked.
The sincereness from him made you realize he’d truly cared for you. For long you didn’t think it was possible. But here he was burning bridges to get to you. You took a deep breath, making the intention to reach your hand out to him when a gush of wind knocked him back. The Avatar landed soundless between Zuko and you. – “Leave my friends alone!” – Aang called out.
Zuko pressed his fist into the ground, groaning in anger. He got up firing at Aang. Aang deflected his fire with a defence of his own. Aang swayed his stick, knocking Zuko further back down the hill. Zuko got back up, going with all his might against Aang. Using all his power against the Avatar in order to get you back. – “Wait!” – you called out loud. Aang and Zuko stopped.
Aang looking confused at you. – “Don’t hurt him.” – you told Aang. Aang stared dumbfound  at you. Zuko slowly got up as you ran up to him. Slamming yourself against his chest when he had gotten up. Your arms around him. Zuko moved his arms around you as well, lowering his head on your shoulder to feel your embrace deeper.
“I need you Y/n.” – Zuko whispered to you. You hugged him tighter as a response. – “Can someone explain to me what is happening?” – Aang said out loud, looking back at his friends. Sokka and Katara could only stare in shock at the two of you. – “They’re intended.” – Sokka said finding it hard to believe and finding it odd that he was saying it out loud. – “Huh?” – Aang responded.
“We should probably leave.” – Katara whispered to her brother. – “Good idea.” – he whispered back, slowly backing away. The three of them ran off. Zuko and you stopped embracing. He smiled at you, touching your cheek. You brought his hand down, keeping it in yours. Holding hands, you went back down the hill with Zuko.

Firebenders (both from ATLA and TLOK are fine) warming you up on a cold day?
There are a lot of firebenders in the two shows, I never noticed how many there were.
Pairing: Aang, Zuko, Korra, Mako, Iroh II x Reader
Tags: fluff, established relationship, kissing, teasing, being cold, warming up, cuddles, firebending, non-bender!Reader
A/N: I included Aang and Korra cause they're the Avatars, plus I'm in love with Korra.
Tumblr media
Aang panics for a moment when he sees you're shaking and cold. Don't panic, like he is, he will warm you up right away. He takes your hands in his and lets you feel the warmth of his breath when he brings them close to his lips, not at all noticing as your cheeks warm up too at him holding your hands.
Zuko doesn't hesitate to pull you against his body and wrap his arms tightly and fully around you. He breaths out a little fire close to you, not enough to burn anything but enough to make you feel heat. Kissing could work too and he doesn't need to just keep it at your lips either, his lips are warm too after all.
Korra makes a fire all around you two so you're warm on all sides. While you lean on her shoulders you notice her stiffen for a moment, she's still a bit shy when you're so casually affectionate with her. When she's doing it it's fine but there's no time to dwell on that, you're cold so she has to hold you and warm you up.
Mako firstly makes a fire right in front of you so you can sit in front of it and he can sit behind you. Will give you his scarf if you need it, he doesn't want you to get cold from any part of your body being cold. What actually makes you shiver isn't the cold, it's him exposing a bit of your neck to kiss it.
Iroh II is very practical and knows he needs to act fast so you don't get sick. At the same time he will take this opportunity to point out how he did tell you to pack warmer clothes and you refused so you only have yourself to blame here. When you push yourself into his arms he gives you his jacket to make you even warmer.
