So, an experience I've had multiple times is when someone tells me they know someone shorter than me, they introduce them to me, and they are Not, in fact, shorter than me, they just act shorter than me.

Ppl's perception of you majorly impacts how tall they think you are.

So, headcanon: Aang is taller than Zuko, but everyone believes Zuko is taller than Aang and won't believe them when they say otherwise unless the two are standing directly next to eachother jsbdndndn Aang doesn't care, Zuko hates it

Hi again, I'm bored and wanted to share my dumb idea with past canon zukaang. Tho I'm sorry if you really gonna read this.

Anyway

I hc that every time Aang is near to fn he just choose to do a little hook and stop at palace. Mostly in the night bc no-one would ever be ready, when Avatar arrives plus he can sneak unnoticed that way much easier. So, Aang quickly finds the most comfortable place for Appa to rest and then flies straight to Zuko's window (dude have no fear in this life already).

First time when he appeared out of nowhere it alarmed Zuko, and Zu of course shoot fire at him (somehow almost burned half of his own room in process). But with time Zu get used to his (uninvited) cuddling partner and won't wake up even when he feels Aang's light hug from the back/front (tho I think Aang is a big spoon).

And, like it's the most normal thing in the world, Aang dirty from his travels and stinky, just comes and peacefully sleep in his (their) royal bad next to Zuko (but sometimes he forgets to take off cloak, shoes and left dirt here).

Aaaand every time to Zuko`s "why?" Aang only answers with: "it's because Fire Lord bed is the most comfortable in the Fire Nation, obviously 😜".

One day Katara found out (Zuko himself tell her) about them sharing bed like this for a years (no word about it from Aang`s side), and after that kataang marriage starts to crack.

DUUUDE NOT ZUKO BEING A HOMEWRECKER 😭😭😭😭 lmfao aang not caring about whether he dies or not because he wants to sleep next to zuko is so real, you have a massive brain 🙏🙏

The Dishonored Blade - an ATLA x League of Legends AU, in which on the Winter Solstice during the Fire Nation Spirit Festival, Zuko must reckon with the sins of his past. this fic was the first niche au/wholly indulgent fic i've ever written for myself, and i consider it my best writing to date. just,,, the themes and lessons weave themselves in so naturally that i can hardly believe myself when i read it back and... i think people should read it, especially since this is probably one of my best depictions of the platonic zukaang relationship.

i don't know who i am (but i won't stop trying) - my Katara-centric fic series that deals with colonialism, cultural appropriation, and cultural genocide. technically a series of two fics, but it serves to view the canon ATLA series through the lens of cultural genocide, a lens that i seldom see within larger fandom. and as self-deprecating i am, i do think that those themes really shine in this series, and it's clearly touched many people who have felt these things personally. overall a great series that should be read altogether!

dreamless dreams - a platonic zukaang fic in which Zuko grapples with the guilt of contributing to the imperialism of the FIre Nation and Aang shows him how to heal from it. i have not seen many fics that truly delve deep into Zuko's guilt and shame and have him grapple with those feelings - a lot of Zuko-favorable fics tend to absolve him of his guilt and it's like eeeee. so this was my first truly in-canon introspection of Zuko's character, and i think i did it well

these sleepless nights we spend (waiting to come home) - my Hakoda Adopts Aang fic, because yes Aang deserves all the good things. i just loved developing their relationship (which we barely see in the series) and drawing parallels between them. overall, a fic well-done!

leaves let go (to fall from the vine) - an underrated one, but an Iroh & Lu Ten fic in which Iroh meets Lu Ten one last time and learns to let go of his grief. this fic was written as an angst starter sentence prompt from @itsmoonpeaches, and as intimidated as i was, i really did enjoy writing their relationship, the parallels between the past of Iroh's & Lu Ten's and the present and future of Iroh's & Zuko's relationship. also this let me write out a small hc i had about Lu Ten, so... can't complain lol.

5 hcs for zukaang body-swap please?

Continued from [Link] and [Link].

1. Katara and Sokka wake up, after a full day of Aang acting extremely strange, to find their friend gone. Vanished. Into thin air. But with the Winter Solstice only a handful of days behind them, Sokka of all people, decides this smells like spirit related shenanigans. After all, didn't he vanish and get kidnapped by an angry panda spirit? And Katara thinks about it, and she says maybe, but Aang was acting really weird yesterday. So Sokka switches gears and says, maybe Aang was possessed, and they have to go find his body drag him back and get someone to kick the possessing spirit out. So they set out, trying to see if they can find Aang.

2. This is made substantially easier by the fact that they have Appa, which means Aang doesn't. and Sokka's whole possession theory gets a huge boost, when they figure out that Aang isn't using his glider to fly, and in fact none of the tracks or traces Sokka finds seem to indicate that Aang has been airbending at all. It's almost as if he's forgotten how.

3. They track Aang all the way to town, whereupon tracking him becomes child's play, because when you ask, uh, hey, did a bald kid with airbender tattoos, wearing yellow and orange pass through this way, everybody in fact remembers the bald kid with airbender tattoos, wearing yellow and orange. It's possible they should keep this in mind for the future. After they've gotten Aang back. When people tell them, yeah they remember the kid, he was really rude and disrespectful, and shouty, Sokka and Katara look at each other. Yeah, possession. Totally possession.

4. But anyway, someone says he's pretty sure Aang stole his boat. See, he had this old repurposed Fire Nation skiff as a fishing boat, and it disappeared right after the kid came through, and that kid was skulking all around, and if the kid's yours, will you two fine upstanding teenagers pay him for it? Katara and Sokka are like, no thanks, bye, and take off on Appa.

5. So they start looking on the ocean for a Fire Nation steamer skiff. But they have no idea where whatever's got control of Aang's body would take them, how are they supposed to find him? And Sokka hits on a terrible idea. What if they find Zuko, and follow him? He always manages to find Aang somehow. Katara is not convinced this is a good idea, but she doesn't have anything better. And Zuko's ship can't be far. Sure enough, they find it just a little way down the coast from the port Aang sailed from. And more importantly, They can see Aang standing on deck.

Hello, Zuko here. This blog is mainly for the purpose of interacting with others willing to roleplay.

-I can rp Semi-Lit and Literate comfortably, usually doing at 4 paragraphs at the shortest, but going well beyond that. I haven't tried Novella style, but I'd love to try it.

Occasionally I will put in one-liners as open rps on tumblr, incase anyone wants to interact but isn't in a serious mood.

i'm comfortably with going by others headcanons depending on what they are, (gender bends, if not fetishy are fine, sexuality changes are fine, trans hcs are fine)

I can do Maiko, Jetko, and Zukka, but I will not do Zukaang or Zutara.

I don't do just ships, I'd totally love to interact with other characters, especially others from the royal family.

My headcannon is that Zuko has kissed every member of the Gaang at least once in their lives and here's how I think that'd pan out:

Katara

Completely accidental, the two share a sentimental moment with each other where they both open up (kind of like in Ba Sing Se). Katara turns to kiss him on the cheek as an attempt to comfort him but Zuko is Very Awkward and turns at just the wrong moment and they accidentally kiss. The two walk on eggshells until Katara finally snaps tells Aang what happened but the kicker is that he actually finds it really funny and isn't hurt because it wasn't intentional. It eventually becomes an in-joke between the three of them

Toph

Zuko picks up a very drunk Toph who'd won a bunch of bar brawls and doesn't say anything (he's the most awkward firelord ever he doesn't want to make a scene) but Toph, being drunk, can't tell that it's him because of this and says "y'know I used to crush on you, Sokka" and kisses him before IMMEDIATELY realizing that it isn't him. The next day she goes to the palace and makes him swear am oath of silence about the events.

Sokka

"Can you believe Suki dared me to kiss you for 10 silver pieces? The joke's on her though because I'd do it for free"

Suki

(To Sokka) "Wait you actually did it? What was it like? Actually don't worry I'll find out for myself"

She then immediately proceeds to compare it to Sokka's description while he's there in the room

Aang

Absolutely a prank gone wrong - Aang pretty much tells Zuko "hey did you know Air Nomads used to kiss each other on the mouth to greet each other?" and Zuko isn't gonna argue because his shitty great-grandfather wiped them out!! So he ends up doing this "greeting" to Aang at a Very Formal event and Aang knows he can't embarrass the Firelord here! So it's only years later after forgetting that he "admits it was a prank and Zuko is like "what.

1. zuko is fascinated by aang’s meditation techniques. whenever aang meditates he giggles and cracks and eye open because he spots zuko watching him from across the room

2. he happily invites zuko to join him and he teaches him about each chakra. he tells zuko that he believes he has excessice third chakra energy (the solar plexus chakra- the center of personal power, self-esreem, identity, freedom, choice). he tells zuko this is the source of his emotional outbursts, his stress. zuko scoffs initially but as aang teaches him empowering phrases to repeat to himself that tempers that energy, it’s transformative for him (i love and accept myself, i stand up for myself, i choose the best for myself, i honor myself, i direct my own life, i am free to choose)

3. they start to regularly hang out and zuko (in attempts to be romantic) brings aang to the cliffside on the beach around sunset. he knows the wide, expansive ocean, open sky and breeze will strike him as an airbender, and aang is truly speechless. after being so earth-bound upon the destruction of the air nations, aang was beginning to get homesick and restless. but the vastness of this view fills him again with wonderment.

4. aang promptly jumps off the cliffside to glide through the air in freewheeling fashion- zuko has a heart attack. aang eggs him on and zuko takes a chance- for once not overthinking and being guarded and (stupidly) jumps off the cliffside believing aang will catch him.

5. aang does, of course and he lands them softly on the beach after a minute of gliding. there’s a quiet moment of exhilaration, panic and heavy breathing before zuko kisses aang on the cheek. aang looks up to zuko with his big, happy eyes in the red and orange (ahem, sunset light that is fire nation/air nation colors) and tells him he missed. zuko is puzzled, but not for long before aang pulls him in for a kiss on the mouth.

6. during one of their firebending training sessions, zuko sets the corner of aang’s robe on fire in an attempt to get aang to stop carefully thinking about his moves and instead act- as firebending is rooted in pure passion. aang doesn’t know how to put out the fire since he’s not entirely advanced and asks zuko to put it out! but zuko gets too carried away and let’s it continue to burn. eventually as aang starts to panic he puts it out, and aang is crying because these robes are historical artifacts at this point and it’s all he has left of his people. zuko is crushed and this causes emotional strain on their relationship. zuko eventually scores the air nation temples and finds scrolls and prints of the air nation textiles and sewing patterns- and he presents aang with new robes carefully and newly crafted.

7. iroh has totally lost it and never knows what tea leaves he puts in his drink, is it poisonous? he guesses he’ll find out! but thankfully aang is great with herbs and one day he labels all the loose leaf in the cabinets and it warms zuko’s heart. iroh loves aang even more after that

8. iroh and aang play pai sho every weekend. iroh is thrilled that aang was taught by his elders and knows how to play

9. momo and appa LOVE zuko. i know it’s not exactly a hc based on some scenes from the show- but momo eventually makes a nest in zuko’s bedroom when he realizes aang stays over so frequently. he’s also always crawling all over him because zuko sneaks him biscuits when aang isn’t looking. aang giggles because he knows zuko thinks he doesn’t know.

10. when they’re older they have kids. now bear w me on this one but raava is in aang right? the spirit of light and life? i have a hc that aang can create life by nature of having this force inside of him. the life would have to be transferred somewhere in order to grow but i hc them as being able to have special spirit babies together ☺️

AU where Aang and Zuko are collectively Steve Irwin but instead of crocodiles it’s dragons

Aang is the one to (carefully) yeet himself onto anything and everything and speak into the camera all excited. Zuko is the one who gently blindfolds and calms the creature.

Aang gives every lil dragon ridiculously fluffy names and talks to them in baby talk like each one is his child. Zuko tries to avoid direct names because he thinks they’re slightly undignified (but doesn’t change them because they make Aang happy and the dragons don’t mind), and he speaks to them formally like each one is a dignified gentleman/lady.

King Bumi is their coordinator and intel guy who feeds them info on where to find their next dragon-rescue mission.

Appa is the support animal for the dragons like how dogs are for cheetahs or like donkeys/goats are for horses. The dragons love him because he is very warm and fluffy, and they occasionally fight over who gets to keep him in their hoard.

Momo just shows up one day and claims every dragon as his new flying family since he is the last winged lemur, and the dragons immediately accept him.

Katara is the medic who pulls rotten teeth and provides first aide and any and all medical services. (Kataang: every time she visits, Aang goes out of his way to get hurt to have an excuse for her to tend to him, too. Zuko tells her one day that Aang is doing this, and Katara blushes and says she knows. The first time she kisses Aang’s cheek to make his little bruise all better, she sends him into cardiac arrest, and the dragons each and all huddle around their ‘injured’ little airbean).

Zuko helps the dragons regain their fire if they lose it because of an injury. Aang, likewise, helps them learn to fly again.

One day the dragons kidnap Zuko and Aang to bring them to the masters to show the ancient dragons that some humans were good and worthy. The masters share the secrets of the dragons, and Aang and Zuko can ‘listen’ to the dragons now because they so thoroughly understand their body language/little sounds/etc on a fundamental level.

^^^ the masters also gift them their own (the masters’) egg—their most valuable possession—because they are too old to care for a youngling properly and sense it will hatch soon.

^^^Zuko becomes its ‘mother’ because Aang was off on a mission and Zuko was right with it as it hatched (so it imprinted on him). All the brooding dragons in the sanctuary now huddle around Zuko like older aunties and tell him what he’s doing right/wrong to raise his baby. Likewise, they puff smoke at Aang (because he is the youngling’s ‘father’) for not brooding properly/enough because he has to go on missions in Zuko’s stead so Zuko can mother the lil dragon.

Toph runs a badgermole sanctuary that Zuko and Aang help with as well, but Toph will actually kill them if they touch any of the badgermoles without her oversight (because someone had wormed into her trust in the past so she trusts no one around them now).

Sokka is their cameraman and tells them they are insane, but he pets and coddles the dragons when no one is looking.

Sokka discretely shares his meat with the dragons even though he’s not supposed to ‘feed the animals’. (He’s very a la the dad who says he doesn’t want a dog but falls in love with it/lets it become his new favorite in the family).

Suki is their security, and it’s become right-of-passage for every dragon to prove they are all healed by taking a golden egg from her.

Suki is the dragons’ unofficial leader because she is somehow the only human to ever best a dragon in combat.

Suki always comments on the dragons’ playful brawls by giving them tips and tricks on how to tussle better, and she shows and teaches them all about the types of traps and battle tactics that poachers use (so they may more easily avoid/escape them when they are released back into the wild).

I will add more ideas to this list as they come to me, but goodness do I love this AU

Hey, everybody~! This post will have several headcanons that I have about Aang, Zuko and the ZukAang (or those that I can remember). I would also like to add some Au's and previous posts (can also include links to fanfics I wrote... the fanfics are in Spanish).

The Air Nomads are the tallest of the four nations, which is why Aang ended up taller than Zuko.

Zuko feels more relaxed when he's in Aang's company.

Aang doesn't like spicy food, but he accompanies Zuko to eat super spicy noodles or curry because he knows he loves it.

Zuko is more tolerant of alcohol than Aang.

Aang is the kind of drunk who gets into dancing and flirting, but he's also too prone to causing a lot of disasters (it's better to have the Avatar sober).

Zuko is the kind of drunk who gets sentimental and clingy.

In the world of ATLA they communicate through a common language and each nation has its own language. Aang is the only native who speaks Air Language.

Aang is a polyglot.

Aang, due to the way he speaks, expresses himself and uses certain words, speaks as an old man in all languages, except the Water Language, due to his coexistence with Katara and Sokka.

The first time Zuko heard Aang speak Fire Language, he was so surprised that Aang's voice could be heard so good~.

Zuko has tried to learn Air Language to surprise Aang, but it's very difficult, especially because Air Language sounds like whistling.

Zuko once tried to pay Aang a compliment in Air Language, ended up saying something else and Aang was laughing until he fell off his chair.

Aang is quite skilled at playing Pai Sho, much more so than Iroh.

Zuko is not a beginner, but he is not very good at playing Pai Sho either.

The only people who have beaten Aang in pai shou are: Gyatso and Zuko, but because Zuko knows how to unfocus him to cheat.

Aang suffers from insomnia when he is stressed, and even more so during stormy season. He is still a little afraid of sleeping and waking up at another time.

Aang often helps Zuko with paperwork when he can't sleep.

Zuko and Aang share dreams, literally, interacting between dreams when they are away from each other.

Zuko knows when something is stressing or making Aang anxious in dreams, because Aang appears with hair in dreams [& fanfic]

Zuko has an agreement with Appa, and it's to feign fatigue around the Fire Nation so Aang can take a break.

When Zuko is the one who is stressed/tired, Aang pets his head and combs his hair. He sometimes helps him with work, but Zuko prefers Aang to have his full attention on him.

There are two notable characteristics within the Fire Nation royal family; golden eyes and the canine teeth are quite noticeable, which look like dragon fangs. Zuko has these two characteristics.

Zuko doesn't usually smile with his teeth because he is embarrassed to show his fangs due to comments that Azula, Ozai, and others have said about them. He very rarely smiles with his teeth.

Aang upon learning about Zuko's fangs, began trying to make him laugh out loud to see them. He likes his fangs.

The palace councilors were scandalized the first time they saw Avatar Aang playing and combing the Fire Lord Zuko's hair [reaction]

Aang sings very well, but in his own language he is out of tune. He likes more playing instruments and is an excellent dancer.

In his education as a prince, Zuko learned various arts: he loved learning to draw, paint, and play. The arts that involve music are not his strong suit, unless they are applied with theater.

Zuko was banished before having a society presentation. So Aang was the first person to ask him to dance.

Aang always asks Zuko to dance when they are at a party.

The palace servants had become accustomed to finding Fire Lord Zuko and Avatar Aang sleeping together with various documents in front of them.

Aang and Zuko have escaped from the palace to go to the festival disguised as Kuzon and Lee.

Zuko has drawings of Aang in his notebook, including a drawing where Aang fell asleep under the tree where the pond is and the duck-turtles started playing on top of him.

Aang very rarely cries.

Aang is the only foreign Avatar with symbolic representation in the Fire Nation.

Zuko, Aang and rainbow fire.

Aang has pet names for Zuko.

Zuko prefers silver over gold, because it reminds him of Aang's eyes.

This part is from several AUs (especially Modern and High School), What if…? and other ideas. [I may also mention other ships in some posts, but because I like to shipping Aang a lot]

Modern/HighSchool

Aang moved from his village to the city when he was 12 years old. He lives with the daughter of a friend of Gyatso; her name is Kyoshi and she lives together with her partner, Rangi.

To make documentation easier, Aang adopted the Rangi's last name.

Rangi saw potential in Aang, so Aang knows differents martial arts.

Aang met Katara and Sokka on one of his explorations around the city (he got lost).

Aang has few of his own clothes, the rest of his wardrobe was clothes that Gyatso and his friends wore when they were young and lived for a while in the city, so he has different styles of clothing from the 70's and 80's.

Aang has been to the police station so many times that he knows every cop in the station.

The last time he got into big trouble, Rangi punished him and transferred him to an academy with Fire Nation-style discipline.

Zuko at age 11 and the following years experienced difficult situations, from the death of a cousin, Uncle Iroh distancing himself from the family, his parents' divorce and Ozai taking custody.

Zuko has an accident and ends up with a burn on his face.

Due to the accident, the issue of custody is reopened, but since Ursa doesn't have the necessary resources to keep Zuko and Azula, Iroh offers to keep them for a while in what has better stability.

Azula refuses this agreement, shortly after ending up at her aunts' house. Zuko and Azula spend the weekend with different parents, Zuko with Ursa and Azula with Ozai.

Although his situation is more stable, the scar is a reminder of problems, so Zuko became a more isolated person.

When Ursa managed to achieve financial stability, Zuko decided to continue living in his uncle's house.

Zuko works part time at his uncle's tea shop.

Zuko and Azula continue to maintain contact, especially when they have to spend a few weeks together with one of their parents.

Zuko and Aang had had short encounters before Aang transferred to Zuko's school.

Despite being the only Air Temple boy, Aang quickly won over most of the students.

For school reasons, Aang has to wear long sleeves and a bandana to cover his tattoos.

Zuko thinks Aang is the typical airheaded popular guy.

Due to some situations, they end up living together more and little by little they get to know each other better.

Aang is in the dance club and Zuko is in the drama club. Zuko asks Aang for help with his play.

Aang ship HC: Puppy Eyes

Zukaang: Zuko gives Aang anything he wants anyway, the only time the puppy eyes come out is when Aang's done something stupid and Knows It and is trying to avoid a lecture. It usually works.

Kataang: Katara is the most resistant but she also loves the puppy eye look and it absolutely makes her melt, she's just still going to stand her ground. She can be in love and still tell him that No he cannot adopt ten more lemurs bc he found a flock of them. Sokkaang: Sokka is the most suspectable and Aang is vicious about it. Bad idea? Puppy eyes. He did something stupid? Puppy eyes. Prank? Puppy eyes. Works every time. Sokka is so fucking sick of it. (Whenever Sokka complains though Aang just starts listing all of the stupid shit Sokka has pulled)

Taang: Toph can't see them so they don't work, instead Aang takes to pitifully laying on the ground when he wants something. Toph thinks it's dumb af and it's even dumber that it actually works sometimes. He's too soft for her to deny ksbdkdn

3. favorite line/scene you wrote this year

there’s actually many many many fav lines & scenes i wrote this year - it’d be impossible to choose just one. but for this ask, i shall choose a section that’s from one of my more recent works.

Silence fills the space between them once more. Hakoda looks over to see Aang’s eyes are unfocused. His fingers are clenched around the necklace once more, and Hakoda can’t help but wonder if he hangs on because he’s afraid to let go.

(he knows he had been when he kept Kya’s necklace with him for weeks afterwards)

these two lines are from my Hakoda Adopts Aang fic these sleepless nights we spend (waiting to come home). i actually really enjoyed writing these two lines because it parallels the reasons for why Aang and Hakoda, respectively, can’t sleep at night. it really shows the love that Aang holds on to his people, how he holds onto them because he doesn’t want to lose them by letting go (something something The Guru something something letting go of his love for Katara, whose love is reborn from his love of the Air Nomads etc. etc.). i think these few lines really go into the depth of Aang’s grief and shows how much they mean to him.

but what i really love about this is that it also shows Hakoda’s grief for the people he’s lost as well, the most notable one being Kya, his wife. i shall admit that i used this as an opportunity to invent a new hc about Hakoda: that right after the Southern Raiders attack, he kept Kya’s necklace with him for a few weeks before giving it to Katara and heading off to fight in the war. by showing the two parallels between Kya’s necklace with Hakoda and the Air Nomad necklace with Aang, i wanted to show the parallel between Hakoda’s and Aang’s grief, which is the reason they can’t sleep and serves as the basis for why Hakoda eventually chose to adopt Aang as his own son.

dreamless dreams, a platonic Zukaang oneshot in which Zuko is plagued by nightmares of the Air Nomad Genocide and Aang helps him heal and move on

honestly, the only fic i’ve started but not completed this year was see the sky and sea (and remember me), but i am most definitely planning on completing it next year 😌

21. most memorable comment/review

great question! honestly this could be either good or bad, so imma do both!

one... interesting comment i got was on my very first Aang-centric fic the avatar's fear, and it was just someone ranting on and on about Aang’s development in B3. which. yeah. it was memorable because it took me so off guard when i opened my email and saw it lololol.

now, a good memorable comment is one i will never ever forget, and that was on my Katara-centric fic teach me how to live my life (because I can't remember how). in the comment, a poc said that they felt so seen and heard, reading this fic, and it was enough for them to keep trying to find their culture again. it really touched me because it was the fact that my stories have that kind of power, to reach into strangers’ souls and touch them and help them find themselves again. i never would’ve thought my stories had that reach, much less power, to find someone i’ve never talked to before and give them that. it’s really both humbling and empowering to think about.

but as a bonus shoutout to you, choco, your comments on my niche fic see the sky and sea (and remember me) have empowered me so much 🥺 every chapter i love to hear your thoughts, and every chapter, you never fail to make me so 🥺🥺🥺 it’s honestly because of you that i’m even motivated to finish this fic. so from the bottom of my heart: thank you 💖
