So, to preface, this is a percathabaster au, not just percabeth SNUJEHG so if ur a hardcore percabeth stan and dont like other ships this aint for you, if not; carry on <3

So, while the broken trio are on their way to Camp, Annabeth runs into one Alabaster Torrington who was stealing food while on a quick trip out of the Labyrinth! He gets dragged back to Thalia and Luke and continues on with them!

From then on, the basic events of canon is basically the same until TLT; Thalia dies, Luke goes on his quest, Percy shows up.

Instead of just Annabeth in the room when Percy wakes up, Alabaster is also with her. Again, basically the same canon esc idea but Alabaster is usually with Annabeth through each event, showing him around camp, the bathroom incident, during Capture the Flag

The quest goes on, but there are minor changes, its subtle, but Annabeth is almost trying to slow them down, telling Percy about the Olympians faults, what happened to Thalia and why, telling him how long Alabaster had been at camp, unclaimed, how long she spent in the Hermes cabin, also unclaimed despite knowing her mother was Athena.

Sowing seeds of doubt in the Olympians.

When they get back, instead of the scorpion, Luke propositions Percy; offers him a place in the army, to help get rid of the Olympians, to bring the minor gods respect and eradicate the whole unclaimed thing.

Percy, recalling everything Annabeth told him, agrees. This is when he discovers Luke is the one who stole the lightning bolt. Also, when he learns that he didn't do it alone. He had the help of Callie Wells(@blackcat2907 hi <33) and Lee Fletcher. But also, and more shockingly, Annabeth and Alabaster.

Annabeth apologizes for the whole helping you on the quest while being the one who committed the crime thing and Percy agrees.

The army grows!! Ethan is, also, a member of the army prior to BoTL, he was swayed by all his friends :D

SoM is where it gets tricky. Kronos has a child of the big three on his side, and with Percys friends also on his side, he doesn't need another one. So....Thalias tree is never poisoned. Instead, the quest, Clarisse is convinced to bring Lee and Silena, is solely to save Grover.

TTC, enter the di Angelo kids! The group sent to Westover Hall is Clarisse, Beckendorf and Lee. They were sent to extract the di Angelos. Though, a group from Kronos was also sent to do this. Lee is aware of this. He stalls the other two as best he can to allow the other group to get the di Angelos first, but when he spots Dr. Thorn leading them out he drops it.

The di Angelos are separated, Alabaster gets Nico away from Dr. Thorn before the Campers get into the hallway, but it's too late for him to get Bianca. So he leaves it.

The fight with Thorn ends with Clarisse falling off the cliff and getting kidnapped. Instead of Luke, Chris is the one used to lure Clarisse under the sky which later brings Artemis. Bianca! Does not join the hunters :)

The quest group consists of Zoë, Silena, Grover and two hunters, one of which is a victim to the Stolls prank and is subsequently incapacitated. Lee is the one who joins the quest!

BoTL is also a little wonky because the campers never find the entrance :)

The Labyrinth quest group consists of Bianca, Grover, Lee and Clarisse since she doesn't go down during TTC in this au. The arena fight is between Nico and Bianca instead of Ethan and Percy :) also!! Kronos manipulates Percy into being the host, completely unbeknownst to anyone else :)

Finally, bc im a sucker for alive aus; Lee doesnt die! Chris is found after the battle since he got lost in the Labyrinth leaving Camp!! and was later found by a camper.

For TLO, nobody attacks the PA, because nobody has that much of a death wish as to attack a boat with a son of Poseidon on board! So Beckendorf also lives!

On Olympus in TLO is Luke, Percy and Annabeth for the Titans and Bianca, Lee and Silena for campers !! (Lee and Silena both betray Kronos prior to the battle LMAO) Percy does, technically, die, but Bianca does some freaky magic and saves him!

Luke and Annabeth don't know this :D they leave Olympus before the Olympians return under the impression that Percy has died. Them and Ethan and Al leave Manhattan, leaving the Olympians under the impression that they're dead.

The Olympians also have!! no mercy!! on the TA demis because their oath was made later then it was in canon!

Very few people know that Lee and Silena are spies <3 Like three people LMFAO

Also the list of surviving TA is very small !! Chris, Lee, Silena, Percy and Lou* who are at camp and Nico, Luke, Annabeth, Ethan and Alabaster for people who aren't!

*Chris caught Lou just after the battle ended before he went up to Olympus to talk to her, and unintentionally saved her life!

Excerpt from a larger HOO x Naruto project, this one is from what's labelled 'Thalia of the Hunt, Taria of the Grass'

Some Notes: Kurogachi - Black Elegance (Grace), Taria is the closest phonotic equivalent to Thalia, but Thalia keeps on thinking of herself as Thalia so it'll stay Thalia internally.

Yes, this is based off Naruto The Movie: Blood Prison because Ryuzetsu COMPELLED ME she's literally my fav of the movie girls.

The thing is Thalia’s reign as lieutenant was arguably the shortest compared to Zoë’s millenia long claim to the title. But, Thalia had led the most hunts in total, killed creatures that in the early days, the gods would’ve trembled to face. Thalia’s leadership of the hunt was from one bloody field to the next while simultaneously running an espionage operation throughout the world and helping Hades (via Nico and Hazel) hunt down escapees from the Underworld. That is to say, if you gave Thalia a country, she’d need a week to hit her stride, and a month to completely flip it on its head. And Kusa was in the middle of a centuries long battle for its soul. On one side, the people who were as pacifistic as Shinobi come; on the other, hungry warmongers that made even the Ares kids look tame. There was no winning here if both sides couldn’t settle the issue themselves and people from other nations interfered to keep them at odds, to keep them weak. This is how Muku explained it at least. He’s eight to Thalia’s four, but he’s a clan shinobi so knows all the dirty details of the Flower v Seed conflict that engulfed Kusa. His father is a Seed, but he prefers the Flower’s way of seeing things, of seeing peace, hope, and unity. Muku is also unflinchingly loyal to Kusa as a concept in a way that makes Thalia want to scream. These kids right here are why Luke never let it go, why Luke gnawed on the concept of burning it all down like it was the only thing that could be done. If Annabeth, gods, if Annabeth, was like this, Thalia had no doubt she would’ve stomped her leather-cladded feet over to Luke’s side with a screaming Annabeth thrown over her shoulder. He has no initiative, none of them do. Their mouths move dutifully in ‘yes’ and ‘no’ and ‘For Kusa’ as though they are the only things that matter. As though they aren’t children who range from four to ten and are taught to kill without a drop of godly blood in their veins. The children of Kusa, of Grass, are not the children of Olympus to be fighting wars this young. Thalia is though. She’s Olympus’s daughter in a world where the moon does not belong to Artemis and the sun is not Apollo’s. She’s the daughter of civilization and the wilderness, of the raging storm and the still forest, a mania and a god. Thalia Grace is divine. And maybe, Kurogachi Taria can be divine too.

Animation Night 175: Short Film Night N+1 "Whoah, These Films Are Short"

Hello everyone! As you might gather from how spotty these streams have been lately, I have been running on kinda low energy for writing about animated films. But Animation Night will never die! Never!!!

Not even if I have to make an AI overlord to put all of humanity into bubbling, softly glowing science tubes, projecting each person's minds into a virtual studio so everyone can produce animation to fill my programme. [This is a hypothetical. No plans are afoot to bring about this eventuality.]

Tonight is one of those short film nights! I really like short films - there's a reason animation night started with package films like 'Robot Carnival'. And even though every collection is hit and miss, there's usually some gems.

Now, every so often we tune into the films of students at animation studios like CalArts and Gobelins. But students have been making films since long before there were video streaming sites. Some of those students will go on to be 'important in the animation industry' and stuff like that!

I recently came across a trove of CalArts films from the 80s through the 90s, thanks to rarefilmm, who maintains a great site for finding obscure movies. In his words:

Full list & link w/all the shorts I got from '80s CalArts students, some of these are on Youtube but not all of them, also included here is an unifinished version (doesn't have colors) of Wisconsin (1994), from the late Chris Moeller, considered lost media.

It's a fascinatingly old-school collection - some of the students go for a classic Disney kind of 'full animation' but you can also see the seeds of styles that would become prevalent in the 90s. The shorts are very short by the standards of modern student films, many of them less than a minute long - if anything underlines how tech has affected this scale of animation it's that.

And for modern contrast, Gobelins are releasing a current batch of student films! Alongside TRY HARD, in which anime girls try to get into anime gobelins, we have the Tekkonkinkreet-esque Kakomando in which parkour-loving kids vie with adults in a shanty town, and the above short in which a young alchemist is apprenticed to a vain and reckless older guy.

That's the student side, but what of web animation? Well, our favourite Australian animator couple Zoë Medcraft & Felix Colgrave made a great video about ants...

For that matter, I don't think I've shown Medcraft's previous animation, I'm A Witch, which drips with just as much style...

Schuschinus made a new PSYCHO ESSENCE, and I think this would be a great chance to visit the works of one of my favourite JDR-like autistic passion project series. Psycho Essence is a massive stream-of-consciousness space opera telling of how a group of hedonistic cyborg weirdos, the Maschinensäcke, resist the cosmic repressive hyperfascist force of 'F' (for Freitaglandmänner). Classic Kirby type stuff and incredibly sincere.

Honestly I think it might be a good time to watch the whole series! It's not the easiest thing to follow but it has some real sights and honestly, I just admire the whole energy of Schuschinus and his project so much.

Meanwhile The Line, one of the most talented animation studios in the world, released this incredible Berserk-core short film Heavenly Vessel - the debut for director Venla Linna. In their words:

The uneasy stasis of a space-dwelling Monarchy is shaken by the arrival of a hypnotic, luminous dwarf planet. Caught between the authoritarian Duke and the impulsive Prince, all will come to light.

That means growing extra eyes and transitioning in a kind of space orgy, apparently. Absolutely gorgeous film, and I'm really excited to see the Line going in this more narrative direction, when so much of their other work carries the stain of being an ad lol.

We also have the second season of Worthikids' series Bigtop Burger to enjoy - the ending, in which we visit the planet of clowns and learn the significance of Old Deut to clown culture, is something else.

I wanted to write a novel about a woman and a bird (many birds, the birds’ many beaks) but the woman kept turning into me. Despite my best intentions to keep myself out of it, and even though I added non-me details (the woman ate pickled herring with a small fork in her empty kitchen, the woman had a gift with houseplants, the woman had no children), I saw my own shadow in her yard. The same thing happened with the birds, though the birds were just birds: they fly because they evolved that way, they have that hollow rachis and that single-minded pursuit of certain seeds and insects. So I tried to cause a commotion between the woman and the birds! She was hanging out her laundry. She held the clothespin in her mouth while she folded the waist of her wet jeans over the line, she pegged one side, then the other. The birds flew down to surround her, to sit along the line. Would they menace the woman or would they sing? This remained to be seen. But birds don’t sit on a moving line if the line is moved by something besides wind, and this line moved in a jerky, human way– touched, as it was, by the woman. So the whole situation collapsed before it began. The woman didn’t care about the birds. She was thinking of something she couldn’t put words to, something I couldn’t see. Something deep inside her turned in circles. Somewhere a tail lashed.

Black Artists Revitalize the Streets of Detroit With a Colorful Mural Festival

The City of Detroit’s North End just got a whole lot more colorful. And that’s all thanks to BLKOUT Walls—a mural festival led by Black artists—which launched its inaugural event back in July. Taking place over the course of a week, the festival brought a diverse group of local and visiting artists to work their magic on Detroit’s city streets. Now that all is said and done, more than 20 new murals grace the walls around the North End area, beautifying underutilized spaces throughout the neighborhood. These artworks bring with them the hopes that they will reinvigorate the district and “be the seed of an arts-based economic development, or creative economy” within the community.
