Gay wrongs tournament, round one of the losers bracket
Propaganda:
For Kinn and Porsche:
First of all, Mafia prince meets poor boy whom he makes his bodyguard. They are canonically engaged. Some might say they're not that bad, but not only have both killed people without hesitation, they went into scenarios ON PURPOSE knowing what the end result will be. By the end of it all, power couple to the skies but also 2 unrelenting Mafia heads who can and will kill you if you so much as look at their partner wrong.
look the gun tango scene, when they're in the middle of an attempted coup, and they spin around while holding each other and shooting people, is the most iconic thing ever
For Wen Kexing and Zhou Zishu:
you've got the founder of the fantasy ancient Chinese CIA and the leader of what is essentially the mafia and then they're soulmates and in love. they're both willing to kill anyone who dares hurt the other while also just wanting a soft domestic life together
Zhou Zishu is an assassin and spymaster who put the current Emperor on the throne, and then quit his job by faking his death (kinda, hes still dying but not as fast as he was supposed to). Had done A Lot on his old job, including murdering children (more than one, and at least one of them in a way I can't even describe without several trigger warnings), exterminating whole families, war crimes (and i dont mean this in a buzzword way, i mean "organized a public execution of foreign diplomats during war time")… btw he doesn't feel particularly bad about any of this, because he believes it was necessary. Like he wouldn't do it for fun, but he thinks the ends (putting a good Emperor on the throne) justified the means (all of the atrocities). As a retiree, he definitely cut down on the amount of morally reprehensible murder, but not murder in general. He still routinely kills ppl, he just doesn't go out of his way to kill more. Wen Kexing, meanwhile, is the Ghost Valley Master - Ghost Valley being a place where the worst of criminals are exiled. Even in such a place, he has reputation as a complete lunatic, owed partially to the fact that he either skinned a man or fed him his own flesh or both at one point, and partially to him having a rule where he would kill anyone who came closer than 3 meters to him. But in truth, everything he'd done was to survive the Ghost Valley and eventually take revenge for his parents, who were brutally murdered when he was only nine. By the start of the novel's timeline, he put his plan in motion - the plan that would drown jianghu in blood, but also deliver poetic justice to all responsible for his parents' deaths, as well as all who'd commit the same crime given the chance. And these two men, these two murderers and schemers, meet - and unexpectedly, find in each other the person who /understands/. The person who is just as ruthless and whose hands are just as bloody, but also the person who knows standing at the top of the world is not worth it, who seeks the same freedom of leaving it all behind, and who is still, underneath it all, a human, with human heart seeking connection. So you have this couple who understand each other with barely a word, and who want the same things - who are so hungry for domesticity and for people they can just goof around with when all their lives they had to measure every step and word - but ALSO where one half a couple is like "i gotta go murder hundreds in revenge" and the other half is like "ok pick you up at 6". (This btw is why I'm submitting novel's iteration of the couple in particular. Show wenzhou with their ridiculous breakups over morality could Never.) Also they were both hiding who they are when they first met, and later flirted about having figured each other out. Finally, I'll leave you my favorite quote that just. perfectly sums up their relationship: "And just like that, they fell asleep in each other's arms, steeped in the smell of blood."
You’ve probably already had submissions for them but I’ll add on. One of them founded an assassin’s guild and killed a staggering number of people. His malewife is the leader of a sect of insane murderous outcasts, and he attained his position by proving to be the most crazy and murder happy of them all. Most of the plot involves him wandering around watching his schemes get more people killed. Together they adopt a kid that was only orphaned due to said scheming (oops). They’re terrible and I love them.

ROUND 2: POLL #1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ROUND 2 POLLS [HERE]
PROPAGANDA BELOW
Kinn Theerapanyakun/Porsche Kittisawasd:
A mafia boss and his bodyguard who are both [NSFW ahead] horny on main all the time. The show is basically a softcore porn show half the time and there's some great sex scenes like the most emotionally charged handjob in a restroom scene you'll ever see, the most sexually suggestive bread sponsorship plug of all time, and Kinn railing Porsche in an infinity pool in front of Deutsche Bank. They're iconic.
youtube
Wen Kexing/Zhou Zishu:
Murder husbands! You've got the ex-founder of the CIA and a mob boss and the two of them are far more obsessed with each other than the treasure hunt thing going on with everyone else. It's the world's most insufferable man and the man who has decided to suffer him. They're literally insane for each other. I think about them all the time. Wen Kexing identified Zhou Zishu by his shoulder blades alone

Miss Jiu and Grandma Zhou!! Liang Jiuxiao's first appearance in Qi Ye is pretty iconic, as he is disguised as a pretty girl to sneakily attack Jing Beiyuan --which happens to be a massive failure because for all his qualities, Jiuxiao is not an assassin.
Qin Huaizhang, Zishu and Jiuxiao's master, was known to have no eyebrows. I know that several of us in the Qi Ye community like to run with that info and imagine that he was also accustomed to turning himself into a woman. We also know that Zishu says that being too beautiful attracts attention, and disapproves Jiuxiao's crossdressing practices. From there, I like to imagine that while Jiuxiao admired their master's transformation skills, Zishu felt his own way about it and tried to prevent Jiuxiao from following their eccentric master's footsteps. Despite his best efforts, though, Jiuxiao persevered and once his shixiong was out of sight, allowed himself to have fun with it. I think that Jiuxiao just thinks it's both fun and a very clever way to disguise himself, since noone would suspect him if the makeup is good enough. I personally don't really think much more of it. "Grandma Zhou" isn't really a thing, nor ever shows up in the books -- we do know that when Zishu does crossdress, it is rather as a plain, older woman. I like to picture him forcing Jiuxiao to disguise himself the same way and Jiuxiao suffering from it, lol. Side note about Zishu (because I can't help myself) : a few bits from here and there in TYK could lead to interpreting him as being rather conservative when it comes to genders, and because he can be kind of a jerk sometimes, I like to go for that interpretation. While I don't think he looks down on Jiuxiao for enjoying looking pretty, I do think that he finds it futile and silly and absolutely unhelpful. (thing is, he got the network to have courtesans gather info for him, Jiuxiao doesn't ù_ú)
Since I love Jiuxiao as a bright and fun personality, I think that having Miss Jiu really reflecting that is nice. Here was my first, and much less thought-out, version of her.

(Note the very important, VERY VISIBLE blade that I didn't keep in the illustration above because I don't think he carries a visible blade around all the time hahaha he's stupid but not that much.)

LGBTQ+ Disabled Characters Showdown Round 1, Wave 6, Poll 14
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A character being totally canon LGBTQ+ and disabled was not required to be in this competition. Please check qualifications and propaganda before asking why a character is included.
Check out the other polls in this wave and prior here.
Zhou Zishu-Word of Honor / Shan He Ling
Qualifications:
He might not count but I wanted to submit just in case. So in order to leave an assassination organization, he has to basically give himself a terminal condition that slowly destroys him over time, killing him after 3 years. So his ability/power is severely limited which is a big hindrance because he only has the strength to fight for a short while before his condition flares up. And over the course of the show he also looses some of his senses. He looses his sense of taste and smell and his ability to feel pain is significantly lost. The reason why it might not count is that they figure out how to cure him at the very end, but he spends the vast majority of the show suffering from this condition.
Propaganda:
He and his soulmate/husband are iconic. War criminal duo. They're both mass murderers who want to settle down with a nice domestic life with their adopted son. He's also got amazing gender. The show also has some interesting things to say about chronic/terminal illness
Val Palafox-Venom and Vow
Qualifications:
He is canonically bigender (uses he/she pronouns) and uses a cane due to congenital disability.
Propaganda:
Val is a bigender assassin/princess's handmaiden who's trying to defeat the guy she thinks laid a long sleeping enchantment over both their parents (among other people), so that she can reunite with her father and theoretically come out to him. So Val embarks on this harebrained scheme to outmaneuver this guy via two different identities (Val has a male persona and a female persona that he keeps separate). It's complicated but also very funny to me, given that the other guy thinks Val cast the curse, but doesn't want to hurt him out of trans solidarity. Bonus that she's perfectly good at fighting while using her cane, but has no idea how to dance with it.
Anything Else?:
This is an act of blatant defiance against your wishes for less obscure media, and I do apologize, but I have no regrets here.
Mod note: lol don’t even worry we submitted a few obscure characters ourselves.

Popular Danmei Character Tournament
CWs: object insertion, sex, death mention, alcohol, slight spoilers
Bichen from the Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation
Lan Wangji’s sword and main weapon
Sometimes personified (mainly by ZeldaCW, I believe)
Submission: the source of some of the stupidest discourse i have ever seen, and for that I can only applaud it. an icon. a legend. bichen IS the moment. now cmon now
*long-suffering sigh* Yes, this is also the sword Wei Wuxian stuck up his ass in the Incense Burner Extra (Chapter 119). And the sword Wei Wuxian believed Lan Wangji was claiming when he pointed at himself, and Lan Wangji called him, “Mine” (Chapter 31).
Was submitted as a joke and has somehow beaten Jin Guangyao from the same novel. Vote to increase their death count <2
Zhou Zishu from Faraway Wanderers and Lord Seventh / Qi Ye
The MC of Faraway Wanderers / Word of Honor
In Lord Seventh, he works under the Crown Prince Helian Yi as the leader of Tian Chuang
Leaves Tian Chuang, a secret organization under the Crown Prince, after his junior brother (Liang/Qin Jiuxiao) dies, and gets wasted as a beggar until he’s tasked with a young boy named Zhang Chengling’s safety

Saw a tag marvelling at the number of TYK translations available, so here’s a breakdown of what translations are out there and why they exist and why I have beef with some of them:
Sparkling Water (Ch. 1-30) — The first English translation of TYK. Has some mistakes—e.g. Zhou Zishu’s robes in his first appearance became turquoise instead of the original sapphire, accidentally influencing quite a few fan artists—and skips translating some lines altogether, notably the poetry. Dropped the project after Ch. 30. We thank SW but look forward to greener pastures.
Wenbuxing (Ch. 31-67) — Picks up where SW left off. Dropped the project after Ch. 67 because Chichi sniped the project, seemingly to capitalise on SHL’s airing.
Chichi (Ch. 68-end; later Ch. 1-67 as well) — Started translating from Ch. 68 despite the fact that Wenbuxing was still working on their translation, thereby breaking the etiquette of the fan translation community. Then there was a thing about taking payment for fan translation, which broke another etiquette. I wish I could say my lack of respect for Chichi is purely a reflection of her apparent level of respect for other fan translators personal, but I could never take seriously a gufeng danmei translation that unironically translates a common title as “Don”, decides to use the anachronism “kerosene” in the penultimate line of the Wen Kexing extra*, and bulldozes through idioms and the listing of Gu Xiang’s dowry to the point of incomprehension, much less recommend it in good faith.
Kexingzishu (Extra 1-5)
Xuxunette (Ch. 1-67) — Is a TERF. IDK what else to say. Like, hashtag-JK-Rowling-is-not-transphobic kind of TERF. If I want to be petty, utilising the word “Arcadia” and “Candyland” and warping the poetry to fit traditional English meters are cringe AF. I personally just find her diction insufferable. If I had found TYK through her translation, suffice to say that I would have never finished TYK.
Lianzi (Ch. 1-ongoing) — My personal favourite so far in terms of the rendering of TYK in English prose.
* I lose three years of my life every time I see TYK fans quoting the kerosene version of this iconic line.
Chichi:
If he passes on, I will hold a bundle of dry grass, douse myself in kerosene, and burn up together with him, turning to ash, becoming one with the earth in the same spot.
Kexingzishu:
If he departs from this world, I’ll bring grass and oil to cremate myself along with his body, so that even as we turn to ashes, we will still be together.

10 Characters and 10 Fandoms
I was hoping this day would not come. I had hoped I would fly free and clear from having to choose between all the people trapped in my television. But alas...I can avoid it no longer...thanks @lurkingshan
Cause here is the thing, when I think of what drives me batshit, crawling up the wall, tearing at the curtains it is not the characters but the dynamics that I love and cherish.
Rules: name 10 of your favourite characters from 10 different fandoms, then tag 10 people to do the same.
So I guess, without further ado, and in no particular order, here are 10 of my faves and why
Wen Kexing - Word of Honor
Tumblr media
I mean...this one seems pretty obvious (coughs in username) but this is my dumb slut, okay? He's beauty, he's grace, he's got Zhou Zishu Derangement Syndrome harder than anyone.
Wen Kexing, how do I love you? Let me count the ways:
Unhinged
Fashion Icon
Crazy Bastard Man
Yi Baiyi's Number One Nuisance
Gay As Hell
And most importantly HE HAS NEVER DONE ANYTHING WRONG IN HIS LIFE.
Not Once. Not Ever.
Akk - The Eclipse
Tumblr media
Oh Akk, my favorite little war criminal. If I had to pick one single favorite character, it's my boy.
Can't put my finger on why but for some reason I am obsessed with this emotionally repressed gay boy who has difficulty accepting himself and feels pressured to perform actions far outside what a teenager should be allowed to do because adults put pressure on him and because he doesn't want people to be disappointed in him...
Unlike Wen Kexing, Akk has done many things wrong, but he's my sweet cheese, good time boy, and he deserves to be harassed by his rat bastard boyfriend at all times. He's learned, he's grown, he's free of Suppalo and I want nothing but the best for him forever and alwas.
Jim Jimenez - Our Flag Means Death
Tumblr media
Ohhhhh Jim. The Swagger, The Sex Appeal, The Being The Only Competent Member of Stede's Crew. I mean, what is not to love about The Orphan Raised By Nun Grandmother To Be a Killer?
As a fellow Studier Of The Blade, I would welcome the chance to let Jim kill me. Besides the fact they would lay waste to many, as an enby, they automatically earn a spot in my favs list.
Guillermo de la Cruz - What We Do In The Shadows
Tumblr media
Tumblr Users, name a sexier character that Guillermo de la Cruz. That's right! YOU CAN'T!
Gay, serial killer...mmm you know what I'm beginning to sense a trend in my favs list...
eh, we can unpack that later!
My lovely, bumbling, dumbass with posession of the only brain cell in the household. So bright and smiley in the beginning you almost forget that he is 10 years in to literally hunting people to feed to his best friends/mortal enemies/family/tormenters/employers/bumbling idiots that stole him away from Panera Bread. There is no greater personification of the Duality of Man than the man who can lay waste to an entire theatre full of vampires and also spending literal hours closing every possible loophole in Nandor's Dick Length Wish. No greater personification of the Duality of Man than the man who can best Nandor in a gay little fight, and then immediately get pushed into a coffin and shipped to England.
Keyleth - Critical Role
Tumblr media
My beloved, all powerful awkward disaster of a Druid. Keyleth helped me through some difficult fucking parts of my life, and I really appreciate how heavily Marisha allowed Keyleth to embrace and exert her anger where it needed to be released. I love how Keyleth can both bring a building down with her bare hands (literally) and turn into a goldfish and splatter along the rocks (also literally)
I love when character who are hurt or in pain or grieving continue to be kind, and I love when that composure starts to slip.
Ellie Williams - The Last of Us
Tumblr media
I love my baby dyke with all my heart. She's a killer, she's a track star, she makes grown men weep and young kids laugh. She's immune from being mushroomified, and she horrifies Joel's Southern Table Manner Sensibilities. What more can you ask for out of a character?
Tankhun Theerapanyakul- KinnPorsche
Tumblr media
Serves cunt.
Kaz Brekkar - Six of Crows
Tumblr media
Kaz Brekkar is the walking contradiction, and that is why I love him.
Kaz, External Monologue: murder. murder. crime. crime. heist. heist. fuck pekka.
Kaz, Internal Monologue: Inej. Inej. Inej. Inej. Inej. Inej. Inej.
There is just something so juicy about a character who yearns desperately to touch, to hold, to love and is physically incapable of doing so. Also like, shout out to having disabled characters in media of all forms
Raine Whispers - Owl House
Tumblr media
Again, enby, therefore automatically on the fucking list. But also like. COME ON. Look at them. They are so precious, they are so awkward, and they are so badass. This motherfucker can't talk on a stage to save their life, but can lead a goddamn rebel organization?
ALSO LIKE, LET'S DISCUSS THE FUCKING WHISTLE AND THE MONTHS OF FAKING MIND CONTROL?!?!?!??!?! Y'all seriously want to sit here and not claim them as a fav? Okay, but couldn't be me :)
Zuko - Avatar: The Last Airbender
Tumblr media
It's Zuko. Need I say more? I will never not love Zuko because I lived through his redemption arc live on my TV. I went from hating this motherfucker's guts to truly deeply loving him in real time and that's all I have to say on that. He's a runner, he's a track star, he's a war criminal, and a baby girl, and truly is the king of kings for doing one nice thing and nearly dying from fever about it.
Well, this has made me realize that most of my favs are gay murderers. Teehee. Please never make me choose my favorite characters again.
If someone tags me in one of these, ask me to do my Top 10 Character Dynamics, please I beg you!!!!1
Tagging:
@bengiyo , @shortpplfedup , @kyr-kun-chan , @moonspiritmars

Artists self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five arts/sets/edits/gifs that you've done, then pass on to at least five other people. Time to shine and spread some self-love and appreciation 💖
Thank you bb mwah 💖 let's see ...
I'll group them together because I drew them back to back but I really like how the two most recent KenBig pieces came out: the dungeon makeout and the battle couple
also this Mangkorn I did. It's still my phone background haha (and my icon obviously)
Big in the hospital gown is one of those incredibly rare pieces where I have a very clear image in my head and then somehow manage to draw it exactly how I pictured it. That almost never happens but it happened here! Pretty sure it's thanks to your amazing writing that inspired it haha ♥
ok this is very simple but there's light on Zhou Zishu and I really like how it turned out idk no reason I just like it
this Wen Kexing piece that I'm still very proud of, mostly because of the background lmao
There are actually a few more that I really really liked so it was hard to choose just five (well, six, technically. But who's counting) for this list. It was a good art year for me :)

Special-eyed Dolls: Penghai Road Xu
Here we have a Wenzhou doll series with a very unusual concept - images of each other in their eyes. I found a bundle of these on Xianyu, and have been quite obsessed by them.
There's 7 dolls like this that I've seen pictures of - this Hobo-Xu single doll and and three Wenzhou pairs. I only have 3 of them, but I'm keeping my eyes out for the rest! They are so unique, and the doll maker has crafted them with exceptional detail.
Tumblr media
This is a 20 cm doll, like all the dolls in this series. First of all, we have the basics of a Hobo-Xu doll - the tanned mask with the fake beard and the scar under the eye, all lovingly detailed.
Tumblr media
But speaking of details, this doll has a whole host of other ones. Look at this! We have not only the 7 nails in his chest, we have his hat and his drinking gourd literally embroidered on his hands. This doll came boned, too! His arms, legs, and head are all posable, as you can tell by his feet up pose right here. This doll can definitely relax back and enjoy the sun.
Tumblr media
Here's a close up of loads of details - the nails, the scar on his chest, the scar on his face, his hand with his hat, and last but not least, of his eye showing him looking at Wen Kexing posing on the wall with his fan. THIS iconic scene:
Tumblr media
This is such an incredible shot. Speaking of, I was catching up on my xhs feed and saw this BTS clip of this scene:
I had no idea that he might of originally been twirling his flute instead! I'm really happy they ended up going with the open fan.
Just goes to show how much work goes into every scene of something like this.
Tumblr media
Over to the other side. Here we have the nails, a different chest scar, his drinking gourd, and his other eye. His little hands have thumbs too, which isn't that common among dolls.
Tumblr media
Here's the full close up. I had to go back to Episode 1 and grab a screenshot of the scars to compare:
Tumblr media
Yep, that's those. But wait...there's more.
Tumblr media
Now THIS is amazing. I've never seen a doll with Zhou Zishu's back scarring before.
Tumblr media
Here's the close up. I kept watching Episode 1 and screengrabbed the best shot I could of the scars to compare:
Tumblr media
Incredible.
Tumblr media
The doll came naked when I got him, but I had a 20 cm hobo-Xu costume I had previously bought ready to go.
Tumblr media
You'll notice three sets of longer pieces of fabric. One is his belt, and the other two are possible hat decoration pieces. That being said, you'll note that the hat that came with this is not very authentic to the show.
Tumblr media
Here's a partial shot of the actual hat, as well as a nice shot of Zhou Xu's sunbathing face.
Tumblr media
I noticed when I was looking at the hat that there was a little hole where the crown hadn't been fully stitched on to the brim. Maybe I could take it off?
Tumblr media
And so I did! It didn't come off cleanly, so I ended up taking a craft blade and slicing it off. Looks a lot better, even like this! When I have a minute, I'm going to get some embroidery floss and stitch the blue fabric on.
Tumblr media
The first robe came with white collars for the look of an extra underlayer without the bulk.
Tumblr media
Here we go, all nice and tidy! Except, you know, the wild mane of hair!
Tumblr media
Fits well from the back, with the collars laying nicely.
Tumblr media
His blue outer robe just goes over the underlayer easily. I see I should have steamed out his sleeves!
Tumblr media
Looking good. I like the nubbly texture of the fabric of this outfit!
Tumblr media
Oops, I forgot the shoes! It's not too late to put them on.
Tumblr media
I wasn't sure if they would zip all the way up. I've tried these on different dolls and they wouldn't over some of them. Sorry for the undignified pic here, Zhou Xu - I know you're wearing pants under this costume in the show, but this particular costume here has some extreme ventilation. I'll have to pick up a pair of black pants for him - I do like my costumes to be as accurate as possible!
Tumblr media
And here he is with his belt. I just tied a simple knot and tucked the end under - I have exactly zero knotting skills.
Tumblr media
Here's the whole outfit, with scarf and all! I even styled his hair in a bit of a messy bun.
Tumblr media
The world's tiniest bun, that is. All these long haired dolls never have enough hair when you pull it back!
Tumblr media
And here he is, sitting down with the help of his boned skeleton, waiting for a kind young lady to give him some wine. Oh no! I just realized he doesn't have his actual drinking gourd with him! Shoot. Well, luckily I have plenty from my official Rua Wenzhou dolls, so I'll just grab one from my extras bag.

Sword gays showdown, round 1 of bracket one
Several different versions of Zorro were submitted, I decided to count them as one guy. I don't know enough about him to judge if there are any significant differences between those versions.
Propaganda:
For Zhou Zishu:
he has a magical sword that bends called a whip sword! he keeps it around his slutty waist! it's one of three legendary magical swords made by the (formerly) immortal "ghost hand" swordsmith! his love interest uses it to make dick jokes!
he's an unmatched swordsman that created and led a secret assasin organization and then he retired to get drunk and be gay. he's never lost a fight unless he was at ½ or less of his power (he got terminally ill for a hot second) and the only person that compares to his skill is his husband, the former leader of the ghost valley. he's so babygirl and so gorgeous and so swordy.
he's got a special little bendy sword and he's my girlfriend (don't tell his husband)
He's already super dangerous with just his hands and random objects he picks up (from a stone Buddha statue he throws at a bunch of assailants in early chapters to flinging a clothes button right /through/ a man's wrist), but once he pulls out a sword, you know it's for real. He's gonna disarm a dozen people in a few seconds - as in, literally, he cut off a bunch of people's arms because they were trying to kill his bf, - or cut a "十" into someone's throat. He's especially hot... ahem, proficient with his personal sword, Baiyi, which is a soft sword - allowing it to pass defenses by bending in motion. Very fitting for a sneaky assassin & spy like Zhou Zishu!
For Zorro:
Has been an iconic swordsman for over half a century. Ask any Spanish-speaking person and they'd tell you how loved he is. Has strong bisexual energy regardless of which version of him you're watching. His mask is very cool.
An entire arc is just him wondering about the risk/benefit balance of coming out (being able to openly be with the one he loves, but at the cost of lifelong danger for himself and everyone who associates with him). The inherent queerness of secret identities. The also inherent queerness of hiding your real self and opinions from everyone except your closest friend, only for your parent to later admit they knew about it for a long time and just waited for you to be ready to tell them. The swordiness? Being one of the best swordsmen around is fundamental to every version of Zorro.
