Y'all, in this world being able to talk to ghosts is just Not An Uncommon Thing, there are support groups and organizations and some of them can summon monsters into the physical world and some of them can just talk to them and some of them can predict the future, you've got people like Luna who can astral project and Akiza who can conjure plants IN THE SAME show. Let's get funky with it. Post-canon Yuya attending a support group for fledgling psychics. Bakura and Sartorius and Carly are all friends through a tarot enthusiasts' message board. Yuma passing off talking to Astral by telling everyone he can just speak to ghosts. Yusaku taking a u-quiz to see if he's actually magic or just really, really autistic.

like imagine you're a delinquent with an inferiority complex because you got caught cheating in some major tournament (that your opponent set you up, and also set your sister on fire after) and then you have your ass handed to you by a obnoxious 13 years old who imprinted on you after he beat you once and then didn't stop nagging you to duel again after you stopped dueling because of him but he really wanted to get you to duel again because you're now "friends" thanks to that first duel, according to him, but you feel too conflicted to accept your newfound feelings of warmth and being honestly touched by that unabashed forwardness he shows you so you can only rage and be rude about it since you are in too much denial to actually do something about those feelings, and yet you see yourself crossing paths with him more often than not and you started actually caring about him and desiring to protect him, at first from afar, and then more directly (all the while still playing cool and not letting it show, but being pretty transparent, if you know what to look for), eventually fighting side by side with him and being hit by a twisted, unfair fate, having to become enemies again (but people are dying this time), having one last duel as allies and then your last duel ever being against him, which you lose, unsurprisingly, but that was just because you could never bring yourself to risk his life ever again, since he was that important to you and you'd do anything to keep him safe :/
