Still on the third day of January I started to draw the back pocket of the journal, this pocket I didn’t make it came in the journal, but at least I could decorate it. I used some of my favorite patterns and one that my friend created, we call it “little cow” because it resembles a little the black and white cows.
In the last page of the journal, I made a pocket. It’s not very good and I still need to glue it from time to time, but I’m keeping some papers in it. There I also draw.
In the third picture you can see both parts of the drawing.
As I had drawn in all the pocket page, I decided to draw in the inside cover of the journal too, since it’s paper. So I drawn all around the pockets and things I put there. This one is a tad bit chaotic, but at least I like the pattern I drawn in the middle it’s one of my favorites. 🩷🥹📓
The first time I heard the term zentangle Art was 7 years ago by a Mexican art youtuber named Daniela Hoyos, she made tutorials on how to do zentangle art step by step and form your first mandalas. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12yvV-DEk34&t=445s. My first impression was her style, it was something very colorful, repetitive compositions that were pleasing to the eye and the simple patterns, which were the same ones that she showed in the video, not difficult at all to start in the field of zentangle art. After a long time practicing it, I got bored because I felt that making mandalas was very repetitive and I consider myself a perfectionist who wants to make it look good down to the last detail and if the strokes did not come out well, it could damage my artistic work because it didn’t look good together.
After many years I got into Zentangles again, with the book One Zentangle A Day in which the author teaches you the art of zentangle step by step. So far I have discovered many patterns that I could never imagine existed at any point. This book has changed my perspective of this type of art, which I saw as limiting, now I see it as a type of art with a wide variety of designs that can be complemented with your own personal touch, a type of art that has no rules. It has no errors, and which can take advantage of every last space.
These last weeks that I’ve been doing Zentangle art, I’ve liked the process. It is something different in my daily routine and it is a way of disconnecting from my mind that makes me relax and take advantage of the time spent. I like to see the result of my compositions, it is satisfying to see the whole that is formed and to see how far our creativity can reach, which in my opinion is the only limit of Zentangle Art.
